- A trek around the Dingle peninsular in the south west of the Republic of Ireland: 13-23/07/19. The route is through hills and farmland then along coastal paths and beaches. It passes Tralee Bay, Castlemaine Harbour, Dingle Harbour, Ventry Harbour, Smerwick Harbour, Brandon Bay, Scraggane Bay. Along the war there are many wildflowers, butterflies and birds.
This is by far one of the best documentary videos of ireland.. we watched as if we were walking the whole trail with you; couldnt thank you enough for the effort you to put to record, produce and share all this rich footage
What a great trip. Nice views of the the trail, scenery, flora and fauna and the weather. Hope to be there in 2022.

I have really enjoyed your video. I plan to watch it again. Question: how difficult was hiking from Feohanagh to Cloghane? I ask because I've read there is a sharp severe descent after the Ogham Stone. And unfortunately, I've injured my knee (and I am not as young as I used to be LOL). What are your thoughts. Stephen? Also, do you know if there's a different hiking way to Cloghane that might be easier on my bad knee? Thanks in advance.
Hi Roberto. I'm not as young as I used to be either. I don't think I would describe the descent as sharp severe. My recollection (from 3 years ago) is of the initial few tens of metres descending being a fairly steep and rough path. It was a bit of a scramble over rocks but still mostly a mud path. Then gradually less steep. In the rain it was slippery from the mud and water flowing down the path and with bogs at the sides. Or across the path. You might be OK if you can cope with that. But it was in the middle of a fairly long day and remote from any roads if you did have any problem.
A few people turned back on that leg because they were not confident navigating over the hills in poor visibility in the rain, and my assumption was that they got to the next stop by road. Obviously not ideal if you want to have walked the entire loop, but an option.
I don't see any alternative footpath on the OS Ireland map that would get you from Feohanagh to Cloghane. The only possible alternative looks like a road walk of about 30 km from Feohanagh down the R549 to Dingle back on the south coast then north again along the R560 to Cloghane. There just isn't another footpath on the map. R roads are potentially busy Regional class roads so I don't know whether they would be safe to walk on, though one part of the second one is marked 'vehicle restrictions' so you might not be able to go that route in some vehicles either. I'm no expert on the area - I just went there to do that walk.

Watched this again. 😬 planning g my trip fir next year. 🙏🏻. Did you use a paper map or app or both. Was the trail well marked? Hope I don’t get rain on Brandon. 😬
I used paper maps and compass and occasionally a GPS unit to get a numeric location to check on the map.
The trail was mostly well marked, but follow any trail over multiple days and there are bound to be gaps.
For me, if walking without a guide, navigating with a paper map is half of the fun.
I suppose I was mostly following the markers, occasionally checking a paper map when I wasn't sure from the markers and to keep track of how far I still had to go, and then very infrequently double checking with the GPS.
