Every Irish person I met as a Cape Town tour guide told me I " must see Ireland before I die". That kept me alive in 2017 in ICU with a pulmonary embolism. It makes you think about life. I realized I can't die Yet I said to my doctor as I haven't seen Ireland.
2018 I had a fantastic 3 week holiday in Ireland and a whole new group of friends from the friendliest county in the world.
🙂
Glad you did it buddy
Truly beautiful. I am planning the trip to Dingle for next year. I need to go through that doorway to heaven! I am 79! This will be my third trip to Ireland since 2018.
I loved the Dingle Peninsula. The town of Dingle is very charming and pretty.
Best Dingle video ever!🎉
This is the best show I've seen about the Dingle Peninsula. I appreciate the traditional pronunciations and knowledge of the area. I'd like to see more on Ireland.
Thank you - that really means a lot :) I’m studying for my mid-term university exams at the moment, but I should hopefully have another video on Ireland again soon, this time about the Ring of Kerry and Skellig Michael
@@rowanexplores5255: Great video, great info, however, just some friendly info from you Irish-American brother, Christopher Columbus never discovered North America, he landed in the Bahamas, Cuba and Central America, then made his way slowly back to Spain. The Native Americans here in the states are always telling their stories that they've been here 1000's of years before the whites, but scientists are starting to discover ancient skeletons from whites that date back further than the Native's claims.
One resource I found VERY interesting was;
'Expedition Unknown' (with Josh Gates) and he travels the world like a modern day 'Indiana Jones' looking for the truth about our history. He has a great show you can purchase on RUclips with many many seasons and episodes. Very informing.
My wife, daughter, our mother's and I traveled to Ireland in 2008 to research my Mom's family history (Ballyferriter), traveled the Ring Of Kerry, small communities and towns and we LOVED it. Our Mom's were on top of the world when we took them there. They have since sadly passed away, but my wife and I hope to one day travel back and spend more time around Dingle again. 🙂👍
@@rowanexplores5255 Oh wonderful to hear & btw, I do hope your studies are going well, or if completed, went really well.
@@rowanexplores5255 - You should also look into doing videos of County Galway and the Connemaras. Lots of beautiful countryside, history and lovely people to see from Galway west to Clifden, Sky Road and north to Westport. The movie "The Quiet Man" was also filmed in the area north of Galway.
Dingle is magical. My daughter, an Irish step dancer had the opportunity to dance at a concert at St. James in the Summer of 2016. Eoin Duignan was kind enough to welcome audience participation. Wonderful concert!
Feeling homesick , want to come back to this gorgeous Island. Came there since 2007 enjoyed every minute. Covid19 threw it back in our faces but when all is save again we WILL go back.
oh my gosh i love how the little dog drinks the milk being fed to the lamb! (7:25)
We just returned from a wonderful two week trip to Ireland. The Dingle Peninsula was a favorite!
A wonderful trip down memory lane. The BEST RUclips video of Kerry I've seen with lots of new places to visit if I return.
Beautiful!!! We loved the fresh berries!!
Great job, one of the best videos that I have seen showing off how beautiful Dingle is
Thank you - that really means a lot ^_^
Great format!
My wife and I just returned from Ireland on a pilgrimage of visiting old friends and tracking down some family along the way. We spent 2 weeks visiting many places along the way starting in Dublin and visiting fantastic locations like Aherlow to visit some friends. Then on to Abbyfeale for another visit with another old friend. We then moved on to Dingle (Loved it) and we explored many of the places you showed in this video. From there we went up to Doolin with a stop for lunch in Listowel with our friend from Abbeyfeale. We were hoping for the Cliffs of Moher but it was wet and stormy but had a great time with a great dinner at Fiddle & Bow and some great Irish music at the local pubs. From Doolin we traveled up to Gallway to again see some more old friends of ours and again had a really great visit and spent some time walking this fantastic city. We then traveled into Clifden where we stayed at a B&B and really enjoyed our host at the Shanakeever Farm - Bed & breakfast.
From Clifden our goal was to find my wifes 2nd cousin in Cloghbrack. On the way we stopped in and walked the amazing Kylemore Abby and then onto Leenaun and veered off onto the R336. From there my wife had me turn at the L1301 into the highlands towards Loch Na Fooey. I literally asked her "What have you got me into this time", it was so off the beaten path but I'm so glad we did. What a beautiful drive that was with vistas at every turn and a truly amazing drive. Our destination was Clonbur where my wife last met her 2nd cousin from Cloghbrack some 38 years earlier on a trip with her parents. She showed me the hotel they stayed at and the pub across the street from all those years ago. Now my wife had no contact information for her cousin but from a tip from a local we went into the pub and asked the woman behind the bar if they knew her cousin or if any of the family were still in the area and amazingly she did know of them. My wife asked for directions to their house but she said "have a seat and I'll call him". She came back 5 minutes later said "John will be here in 10 minutes". Can you believe that!? I was speechless. Well in 10 minutes John walked in and we had an amazing visit with him and my wife was ecstatic and so happy.
We went onto Gong and stayed the night there. On a tip from our host in Cong he said the only way to see Ashford Castle was to either book a room, book dinner or walk in after hours as the castle is now a privet hotel and not open to the general public. We walked in that night (Amazing!) and the next day had tea at the tea house and walked the outside areas. If anyone goes just tell the guard at the gate that your going in for tea. He actually was quite nice and said...several times before I got the point - "Your going in for tea right?" and he let us pass.
After some tea and a walk we drove all the way back across the country to Maynooth just outside Dublin and spent our last night in Ireland at the Glenroyal Hotel (we highly recommend this hotel and absolutely book a dinner reservation in their restaurant). We flew off to London the next day and spent the next 3 days in Wales with our good friend from home and her family. I can't say enough about this great country and next time I will be visiting my ancestral home up in Donegal.
Added to my ever growing list of places to visit.
Fine video, thank you. Love that you're exposing we viewers to the Irish language. I've been to Dingle three times - most recently in 2015. Upon viewing this video, I realize I've still but scratched the surface! Guess I'll just have to come back for a fourth visit ... and a fifth ... and a--...!
I always tell people Donegal and Dingle remind me of the Ireland I use to go to on vacation. My two favorite places in Ireland
My family and I have been all over Ireland, which is a beautiful country, and our favorite is Dingle. We have done the Slea head drive a few times and still is the most amazing scenery anywhere.
This is one of the best videos I've seen to explain stops and what's worth seeing. Thanks so much!
Memories of my many days there, when I was seeking a long term rental.. Gazing at Blasket from the layby opposite the Crucifixion scene.... So many memories.. Had there been somewhere to live there i would still be.. Happy where I am though, small offshore island Mayo...
Thank you! Which island? I’ve been to Achill and Inishturk, but there’s lots more in Mayo I would love to explore someday :)
I’ve always wanted to see Ireland and meet that side of my family that stayed on the homeland. The more I learn about the Irish in Ireland, the culture and just the mannerisms, it makes a lot more sense to why I am or do the things I do! Ha!
Only visited Ireland once, not nearly long enough! Loved every minute of exploring Dingle and getting a close up look at what it has to offer. Ancestors on both sides of my family had their origins in Ireland, so it is easy for me to fall in love with so much of what Ireland has to offer.
Hello Maureen, how are you doing today????
Same here! My Mom was 100% Irish, her family came from Ballyferriter, my Dad had some Irish in his blood, just not certain from where at in Ireland, so I'm over half Irish and proud to be, even though I was born in America. 🙂
With a name like Maureen McKenna your certainly Irish 😄🍀🍀
@@vincentwhelan475 I am on almost every side you can think of. I feel blessed.
@@glenturney4750 With all due respect, there is no such thing as 100% Irish, for the most part.
The Irish have a rich & long standing history & with that also came other ethnic groups that came & went, as applies to most of our world & with that happening, meant that Irish DNA could not be 100% pure.
The English, the Gaels/Celts (Germanic groups who btw, are the "true" Celts) the Normans (Northern French), the Spanish, the Romans (Italians), the Scandinavians & numerous other ethnic groups had historic connections to Ireland & with the Irish. Over much time, they all intermingled genetically, albeit, some more so than others & they all left behind, their genetic legacies.
This "is" so often "verified" via countless Irish DNA results, which I would kindly suggest you check out. You may find it all very interesting, as I certainly did.
Fun fact......Almost ALL humans globally, are much more ethnically diverse than they'd ever believe or even know & countless global DNA tests (including countless Irish) are so well verifying this.
Once again, If you google "Irish DNA results" you'll come to see that all of the Irish, but a very few, are actually 100% Irish.
Even those who are 100% Irish, may well "only" be 100% Irish, because both of their parent must have been well over 50% Irish, hence their child inheriting all of their Irish DNA from their 50% handed down to their offspring) but who knows what their "other" 50% that their child didn't inherit say?
Only very rarely, are both parents ever 100% Irish, as we're all mixed ethnically to some degree.
We all receive "only 50%" of our DNA from both of our parents & what this means is, that it's possible to inherit DNA from numerous European or global regions, as DNA inheritance is completely "random".
We must also consider 2 other important factors here & they are.....
Genetic recombination & genetic methylation.
The only way to verify that a parent is 100% of anything, is to have their DNA tested, otherwise one cannot simply "assume" that they're 100% Irish or anything else.
What we may "think" we are, may not @ all be true, but a DNA test will surely verify much more regarding our true ancestry, but even then, a DNA test isn't 100% accurate. This is because it's a continually evolving science, but so far as "current" science is concerned, it's much more accurate than simply believing old family narratives or simply believing in something that may not even be 100% accurate.
Prior to global man made borders being created, humans across all continents came & went, they crossed paths & they often had children together & where we've been told our ancestors came from, may not always be conclusively 100% correct.
I'm part Irish/Scottish/Germanic/Scandinavian myself & I used to think that my Great-Grandparents were all 100% Irish, until we had their DNA test taken before they passed & we know very well, that we were very fortunate to retrieve DNA from them, as they're of the earlier generation & got to live lengthy lives, right up, until DNA testing became available to the general public.
What I found out was truly astonishing, as both of my G-Grandparents were a combination of numerous ethnic groups & not only Irish.
This is just something for you to keep in mind.
Visited Dingle a few years ago now and loved it, especially those pubs. Thank you for the memories of this lovely place.
Excellent! Thank you so much. Great work.
Definitely gonna visit. Thanks for sharing 👍
Greets from the Netherlands 🇳🇱, T.
Just found this little gem, great video! Can´t wait to be back in Ireland soon!
Thank you so much Rowan Moorkens O'Reilly!! I needed to see those sheep! Very informative and well played. You are handsome and good mannered. May God continue to bless you and keep you! Love to you from The States.
I remember Ryan’s Daughter very well. A wonderful must watch movie at the time.
I was hoping to see the church that Amy Winehouse did a concert in a magnificently beautiful candle filled scenario. It was very small and whitewashed so probably very humble.
It was a wonderful documentary of the concert but why THAT church & why Dingle I asked myself.
Thank you anyway I showing us this beautiful peninsula.
One of my fav's Dingle on my coastal road trip💚Many Synchronicities here 🕸☘Blasket Island's 💚
I've visited the Dingle Peninsula twice and recognized most of the vantage points in the video. I walked the Dingle Way in July 2004. I believe that's Torc Waterfall, County Kerry, in . I live in Saskatchewan, Canada.
Our first venture outside of North America will be to Ireland. We will be celebrating our 45th anniversary. So lookng forward to this trip! Thank you for the inspiration!
Beautiful...wonderful narration. My Dad's parent both came from Dingle, God rest them. Your video felt like a homecoming of sorts. Thank you. ☘
I had planned on going to Munster this October but have now completely changed plans because of this video! This ticks all the boxes! Simply enchanting 🌹🍄🌈
Dingle is in munster though

Oh fantastic, just fantastic!!!
This is really interesting, educational & beautiful viewing all around.
I'm so very excited & really looking forward to seeing Ireland for the first time, end of this year (Irish Winter).
I've longed to see Ireland in person for many years now, so finally, my dream will come to fruition.
This video has really helped me to know where to go & to know what to do, while I'm in Dingle.
Dingle is very beautiful & incredibly picturesque. So much so, that it appears storybook/fairytale beautiful, looking from varying angles.
I'll miss not seeing Fungie the dolphin, but I believe he swims near the coast in spirit & I'll imagine seeing him there.
There's so much to see & do in Dingle, that I plan to spend approx 3 to 4 nights there, just to take it all in, specifically the incredible coastal & mountain scenery. It will be very verdant & most likely cloudy/misty on/off when I'm there, so that will really "add" to the regional beauty.
Thanks for sharing with your viewers.
You are a wonderful youtuber! I can't wait to see your future content!
I’ve been to Dingle many times and never knew half of this! So cool! Can’t wait to see more videos 🎉
Thanks Ais - that really means a lot! 😊❤️ I’ll do my best to deliver!
Beautiful place, my mother was born in dingle & i spent every summer there as a child, i saw fungi countless times, it never got old. Great times. Dingle is truly a natural beauty.
Great video.
The scenery is just spectacular. Ballyferriter is particularly beautiful
As a teenager of Tralee but always loved Dingle .. what a great video well done man impressed go raibh maith agat .. Iain
Míle buíchos ^_^
Great video, you did not insert yourself in every frame. This allowed us views of my ancestors incredible land/seascapes. Thank you
Going to Ireland for a couple weeks this coming April, have watched a couple dozen videos in preparation. This is by far the best yet. But it's your only one? Come back! Make more!
Hi William, thank you for the kind words! I hope you have a wonderful time in Ireland in April - where are you looking forward to seeing the most? :) I’d really love to make more videos - I’m in university at the moment, so I’m usually working on assignments and studying for exams. But I have a video on Tokyo up on my channel - I hope you enjoy it! - ruclips.net/video/sJu0KzxQQ3Q/видео.html
Before the end of the year, I should have another few videos out - one about Ireland (Ring of Kerry and Skellig Michael), one about skydiving over Uluru in Australia, and one about Hong Kong. I’ll do my best to make more!
@@rowanexplores5255 Hi there Rowan,
I would love to see more of your videos regarding Ireland too! I think I've watched this one approx 10 times now, it's that good, it's fun viewing & it's very interesting/educational.
Once again, I wish you well with your studies & as a part-time student myself, I can certainly relate.
Cheers & all the best.
That was such a wonderful video! My ancestors were Irish. I did go in 2019 but only Dublin to Hook Peninsula, Cork, Waterford etc.
One day I will get back to Europe and Ireland and visit Dingle!
Love the video. My travel there in 2013 still remains one of the best expediences I’ve had in my life.
That was fantastic! Thank you
I rode on the dingle in 2004, did the stone house ca 600 ad, cliffs of moir, and many great memories were made, also purchased an Irish fisherman's sweater. Great trip.
Id love to see the house where Peig Sayers grew up thank you for a beautiful video
Wonderful! It makes me want to take the next flight to Ireland and head directly to Dingle!
More places in Ireland, thanks you for your good work
Want to go to Ireland and Scotland, I really would love to go to Dingle.
It's like as if I've been there the memories from past
Great presentation of the area and love the music!! (I went 2 years ago so it was great to revisit).
Great video! I am looking forward to visiting Dingle this summer during my trip to Ireland!
Hey Rowan, Paul from Tampa Florida here. Enjoyed your video, and the history of the surrounding towns. My fathers mother was born in Dingle, 1878, and sailed the boat across the big pond when she was just one year old with her mom and dad. I have been researching their background for my trip next summer, and I am hoping to meet at least one other "Moriarty". LOL !! Never know what a few pints of local Coffee Stout will encounter. Thanks again.
Such a beautiful place - thank you ! Brit living in the US here - we went to Killarney many moons ago & that was pretty special too. Too old to travel now, but your video was a great treat !~
Excellent photography in this production!
I was there in 1976 . I spent a month there and it was amazing!
Incredible video, sir. I moved abroad a few years ago but am from an adjacent county and your vid is bringing back weekend trips to Kerry I'd long forgotten about. Beautiful country. Keep up the excellent work.
Great video! Please make more like this about other parts of Ireland. I'd love to see you make one about the Westport area as well as one about the area around Cork (Blarney, Cork, Kinsale and Cobh).
Great video!
Damn, I went on a full tour of the Penninsula with my family when I was around 12. This video brings back so many memories it feels surreal. Such an increadible region that fully encapsulates the immense beauty of this country. We stayed up at John Benny's and would walk to the aquarium every evening. We're going back this year and I couldn't be more excited now that I have a better eye for the historical contexts of these places
I’m so glad the video could bring back those memories - Dingle is a magical place, isn’t it? :) Where was your favourite place? I hope you enjoy your trip this year! Go n-éirí an bóthar leat!
@@rowanexplores5255 As much as the historical stuff was great it really has to go to either the Fungi Tours (RIP) or the aquarium lol
The South Pole Inn was really cool to see as well as a kid after reading one of the books on him and covering him in primary school.
@@rowanexplores5255 fabulous, comprehensive and amazing video! Can you recommend a tour operator who would capture many of the highlights of the Dingle Penninsula? My ancestors from Dingle didn’t swim 😀to Canada, but did arrive there around 1830s. Thank you so much.
Wow, that brought back some memories. I toured Ireland for a couple of weeks in the late 1980's and the Dingle Peninsula was part of that

Hello Pat, how are you doing today????
God I miss Ireland. Fantastic video.
Fabulous Video
Great video. Have enjoyed Dingle peninsula on 3 trips to Ireland. My favorite places are Inch Beach and its dunes along with Mt. Brandon. The view from the summit is spectacular. As an American driving on the left side of the road going up Conner Pass gave me great pause but everyone cooperates and it can be done quite safely.
Wow! Thank you so much for a great job. Succinct and clear and loaded with useful information. Great job editing the videos.
Great video. Very helpful. I'll be using Dingle as home base for my first trip to Ireland for a week this July (2024.) Looking very much forward to it.
What a terrific video, thank you so much for sharing. Looking forward to more of your videos!

fantastic video really informative and you capture the essence of the locations beautifully...I came to Dingle with my 11 year old son in 2011 and we went out on a short 2 hour fishing trip and saw Fungie...he came to every single boat and delighted everyone...he wasn't even after food we tried to give him some mackeral and he wasn't interested he just seemed to enjoy meeting humans...I was so sad when I heard he'd disappeared coz I knew what that meant.
This is amazing! :)
Maybe a Wild Atlantic Way series?
