Totally agree. That was brain-dead. Also, while I have always thought that DC wasn't quite the QB everybody pegged him for -- he definitely has talent but I wondered about some of his execution -- I now feel for him 100% and wish him well with the Saints. He's a guy who deserves some success, and I hope he gets it. Also a little bit of irony that his head coach now is Dennis Allen, another ex-Raider who suffered through some difficult years there.

I don't think he's as bad as Jerry Jones. Jerry Jones was actually enamored with Al Davis and tried to structure his management model like Al Davis'. Davis was very successful in 70s and early with the great John Madden and Tom Flores. Later on in life he wasn't successful and passed and his son got the team. I believe a similar scenario will happen in Dallas. I just hope that Stephen will do a better job at handling the team. Didn't mean to be so long.

This is an amazing comprehensive review. As a life-long Broncos fan, having experienced Hurricane Josh first-hand, I never imagined I would feel bad for Raiders fans. Yet, I do. I never imagined he would be hired as a HC outside of New England after walking out on the Indianapolis Colts after his assistants had picked up and moved to Indy. As others have commented here, McDaniels is a virus that destroys proud franchises. Blame Mark Davis for the gross mismanagement of money paid out to coaches to not coach. That said, I hope Hurricane Josh never coaches again. It is the fan, working 9-5, shelling out their hard earned money to fill the stadium (and those who cannot afford it) who get burned.

Carr is definitely better then Garoppolo but every stat shows that Carr is an average QB. He had maybe 1 top 10 QB year with us and that was a long time ago. This year with all his weapons and top 5 Saints defense and still the stats show he is an average QB that throws a ton of check downs, waits until the 4th quarter to throw TDs, lots of overthrows and has an average QB rating. He will never lead a team deep into the playoffs because he can not beat good teams. I want to win a super bowl and that is impossible with Carr. QBs don't all of a sudden get way better after 9 years in the league. Never happens.

You got a gem. Gruden said Carr was a top 5 QB. He liked Carr so much that he came to New Orleans to help the Saints and Carr out. In his 9 years with the Raiders Carr started day 1 as a rookie and was successful despite having 6 head coaches and a like number of offensive coordinators. Every single year he also labored with the handicap of a defense that was always in the bottom 10. Despite it all, he engineered 34 game winning drives, the most in NFL history for a QB's first 9 years and the most for ANY QB for 9 consecutive years. The closest to him is Hall of Fame Peyton Manning at 33 for 9 years taken out of the middle of his 18 year career. In 2021 the Raiders made the playoffs with a 10-7 record. 7 of those wins, including 4 in overtime, were game winning drives engineered by Carr. After those great receivers learn to work with Carr and the offense settles in I expect he will get better and better. You have Captain Comeback and no QB matches his ability to win.

The Raiders have been rumored to not even be able to pay their electric bill on time to even keep the lights on in their offices at their headquarters yet Derek Carr trusted the Raiders to write up a contract for him to save them money so they could spend that money on other players to keep the previous years team together? He trusted them to do that when it’s common knowledge that they can’t even spend money on their electric bill and other basic bills properly? I would bet that someone most likely pocketed that extra cash somewhere along the line and left everybody high and dry and that’s ultimately why Derek Carr ended up on the Saints. The Raiders can’t be trusted to do anything right. Al Davis was one thing but his son is way off in left field somewhere, and surely he can’t be trusted. His heart is not for football, and it’s definitely not for business. He just wants to spend the revenue that comes in until one day he blows this thing up because he didn’t take care of his perceived Golden Goose. Mark my words.

Where he wasn't the sole leader of men. Professionals...

The amount of money, and the amount of consistency required to make it seriously worth it would raise so many red flags... This guy just seems like such a basic asshole, with an ego out of check... But that also describes the raiders owner to a T, so it doesn't surprise me Davis sees a bit of himself in McDaniels and likes the guy. McDaniels also doesn't have to lead Davis... It's a much different dynamic when you're in charge, vs when you're working for somebody... Boss/employee dynamics show you a persons true colors. When you get promoted and handed more and more power, SOME people will manage to please the people above them, and piss off those below them... Eventually you often get figured out, but sometimes, you don't. Or sometimes, you get lucky enough just under the surface to coast off the success of others enough to get where you don't belong. Not every promotion works out in the business world either, or in any job. Sometimes you were a good cashier, maybe the best cashier, but a TERRIBLE assistant manager. Maybe a great assistant, but terrible lead... It's ALWAYS possible...
I truly would agree as a former regular coke user, this guy could very likely be a grown ass child in a lot of ways emotionally, and that starts to really come out when he's given too much runway... I think whatever massive contact he had gave him a real false sense of security as well, that he simply would not be fired THIS early into his contract. And maybe to some extent was living in the moment if the allegations of coke is true. His future is all tomorrows problem anyway...

I really like the fact you covered the murky world of the reporting coming out of Vegas. No one else I have seen has covered how McDaniels and Zeigler were putting stuff out to undermine the players. There was a report that came out that Davis wanted Carr gone and now I'm wondering if that was even true or just a way of deflecting blame.

What an amazing summary of this story! Great work and you were right the whole time Willie. I wish something like this was done for Tua and the Miami Dolphins during the Flores era. Sean Payton and Tom Brady tried to take Tua's job - but Flores filed his racial discrimination lawsuit the day Tom Brady fake retired and Payton fake resigned and foiled their plans. Brady planned on getting ownership w/ the Dolphins - now he pivoted to minority ownership and possibly playing with the LV Raiders! Tom Brady was scheming and destroying 2 franchises. Dirty business. Crazy!!

And then Tua's Dolphins hung 70 on Sean Payton and the Broncos. Last year as a talking head, Payton said he thought Bridgewater would take Tua's job, then a few weeks later with Tua near the top of NFL QB ratings, he acknowledged he hadn't seen much tape on Tua.

Man, I can't help but feel Roger Goodell was seeing a Raiders team coalescing under Gruden, and sabotaged them.
Then Mark Davis, brings in the literal devil, by hiring the Raiders arch-enemy, who does a string of things that everyone would agree is detrimental to the team.
What is going on here Willie!?

Oh that's exactly what happened just wait till January! Mcdaniels was placed by Goodell not hired by Mark goodell most likely threatened mark with Rooney rule bc Carr and Adams were talking about linking up Grudens last year. That's why Goodell leaked his emails. Goodells done he only signed a 3 year extension he's done!

Why would Goodell specifically have that kind of focus on harming the Raiders?
The Gruden situation was absolutely an orchestrated hit by the NFL front office, and therefore Goodell, but I want to know why, and I just don't see "Goodell wanted to sabotage the Raiders" as a coherent foundational reason.

You never know...NFL executives have had deep seeded hatred for the Raiders since Al Davis showed up with the AFL and was instrumental in the merger. Pete Rozelle and Davis openly fought and feuded in the news every day and this was before ESPN lol...With a history of hatred going back to the 60's, it might be in every front office executive's contract for decades that they are required to hate and hinder the Raiders at every opportunity 😂😂

@@don_5283 I think the answer is in those same emails they used to skewer Gruden. Also, there was definitely something building in LV and the NFL has seen to it since the Al Davis lawsuit that the Raiders don't prosper. We'll know for sure if something mysteriously or seemingly inexplicably usurps the team's mission under AP.

everyone of Belichick's coordinators gets a head coach job and tries to be a hard-ass like Bill and ends up not being able to pull it off and pissing off the players and losing the locker room😂
      McDaniels did it in Broncos&Radiers
      Patricia did it in Lions
      Obrien did it in Texans
The Giants hired his special teams coordinator Joe Judge which was an absolute DISASTER of a hire bc he sucked so bad
and old buddy the last Black head coach Flores for the Dolphins who was the Defense guy and they still sucked b4 Mike McDaniel came from SF and changed life in Miami
lets just say that "the Patriot Way" was actually mostly Tommy Brady being generational!!

Carr was a damned good QB and still is. McDaniels seriously thought that he was going to get Tom Brady to come play for the Raiders and that's why he wanted Carr gone. None of this would have happened if Mark Davis wasn't so gullible. If he were half the man his dad was we would still have Gruden. As for Jimmy G. He is always hurt and he needs to wake up and realize that he is simply not built to keep playing this game.

Teams go decades without having a great qb and when they get one.. they let em go. They should have never let Carr go. He’s really fucking good

This falls all on Mark Davis. After the job Rich Bisaccia did as interim coach, the interim tag should have immediately been removed from his title the day after the loss to Cincinnati in the playoffs. The entire lockerroom was behind him getting the job too, and it’s hard to blame them. With as much as that entire season was skidding off the rails, that man holding it together was admirable of a damn job as you’ll see. Instead, he was unceremoniously dumped, for this damn clown, who was a failure in Denver in a division that was far worse 15 years earlier. I don’t give a damn if he was supposedly New England’s HCIW. Let them keep his ass and become their problem. Instead, he comes in, pushes Carr out the door, underutilizes Renfrow and completely gets the entire lockerroom and staff turned against him.
Let this be a lesson. If the team shows the fire they did this week, forget the shiny toy and splash. Remove the tag from Pierce’s title at season’s end. Don’t make the same dumb ass mistake you did with Bisaccia, for your own sake.

Finally I can turn on a Raiders game and watch again. Feels good. I hope DC and Gruden come back along with Bisaccia for special teams and Del Rio for defense.
