Thank you everyone for all the comments and suggestions, especially those of you that lost your dear friend Ann. We never knew of her until reading these comments. The Nightwish Army lost a very dear member. We're so glad you shared her memory with us and are honored we posted this video today, of us reacting to her favorite song, even if coincidentally. We feel close to Ann and all of you. So today, think of the good times. Keep Ann in your heart and you'll never be without her. Rest in peace, Ann.

New subscribers from the great southwest high desert of Arizona. Ladies we are in our 70s and discovered Nightwish and Floor two years ago and understand your surprise and pleasure for the best band in the symphonic metal genre. They have a catalog of over 100 songs and every one is unique thanks to Tuomas, keyboard artist, who writes most of their music and lyrics. He is pure genius. Their live performances are the best due to their stage presence and production quality. Looking forward to joining you on your Nightwish adventure. Enjoy the ride. On a very sad note we want to say Ann Waychoff will be greatly missed by the Nightwish Army, but we know she is still enjoying the music now without pain. R.I.P. Ann

I’m your age and had never heard of symphonic metal or Nightwish until about nine months ago. Never got into metal or grunge until recently as I was in my late thirties when it came in. So last fall I heard Ghost Love Score and was utterly hooked. Fell in love withNightwish, Floor, Marco, Tuomas etc. I’m 73, and infected my 85 year old friend with the Nightwish bug too. It’s interesting that in Finland, symphonic metal is considered mainstream music. I don’t know of any American symph metal bands.

    • @SubwaySweden
      @SubwaySweden 4 года назад +19

It is common in the Nordics in general, In Norway for instance Dimur Borgir (black metal) played with the national philharmonic orchestra on state owned televison etc. We like our metal up here on all levels of society ;-)

I find it utterly fascinating and awesome that there are so many, dare I say it, older people who have kept an open ear and an open mind. I'm 53, and when I was a child it was unimaginable that the generation of my grandparents would listen to any form of rock music, let alone metal. 85! Crazy. Rock on! \m/

That is so cool, it really seems Nightwish touches their listeners no matter how young or old they are.
And yes, I would say that Nightwish and many more metal bands are considered mainstream in Finland. Pretty much all the radio stations play their music, less or more.

Oliphant I think you had to be a rocker when young. Those who were into Zeppelin, Floyd etc which I was. I don’t think young people who were into country back in the seventies would go for this. a Fun fact about Finland where this band is from, in care homes for the elderly, nurses have come out saying that these days more often than not, the elderly customers want to listen to bands like Metallica and Nightwish to calm them down during hard times instead of the golden oldies that they used to listen :)
    .
Please keep doing your reactions, your channel is an absolute pleasure to watch :)
Edit: ever since Finnish Lordi won the Eurovision, metal and hard rock hit mainstream acceptance basically overnight, and it never left
For example, my 78 year old father recently asked me if I knew a "minor" German band called Rammstein he had discovered by accident and was really enjoying 😂
And my mother was, oh there you start going on about rammstein again, bad enough you are playing it all the time in car 🤣 she listens to Black Sabbath instead
(she never really got over how the Germans had burned our hometown and Hilter's speeches, so that is why she can't stand anything in spoken or sung in German)

Freethinker the noise quality of Wacken is arguably better than Wembley, but I would argue that Wembley is the better overall concert, a more diverse set list and the way Marco and Floor sing some songs differently make it just slightly better in my opinion, in fact whilst I’m being greedy I think as a subscriber special or something why not do both Wacken and Wembley???

Ann Waycoff was always there with her comments and encyclopedic knowledge guiding people new to Nightwish. So sad that she's gone. 😢
I saw a suggestion for "The Hu" in one of the comments, and wanted to add my recommendation for a reaction to them. There's an internet forum that I'm a part of, where we've played this "Forumvision" game for years, which is kind of a music reaction game modelled after Eurovision. Every player sends in a RUclips link to a song every round, and then we listen to the songs sent in every round, and rate them, Eurovision style.
Anyway, these forumvision games have been going on for about ten years or so on the forum (We're up to game number 18, that's running right now), and a song by The Hu holds the all time record score. Specifically this one:
The Hu - Yuve Yuve Yu (link: ruclips.net/video/v4xZUr0BEfE/видео.html )

I'd also at least consider a lyric version of that video. ruclips.net/video/iEzZRMthhXU/видео.html. I personally don't think they get distracting but some do. You don't necessarily need to know the whole backstory but is easily found if you do want to know. But I will say it's a very personal song, especially for Tuomas. Especially if you have some trouble catching some of the lyrics, I think it's well worth having them on screen.

This concert is what got me into Nightwish. I came across it one night on RUclips and decided to check it out. It was 11 pm, so, I was only going to watch a few songs. Wrong! The moment the concert started, it was like a hand reached out, grabbed me by the shirt collar and dragged me in to this wonderful majestic music. I could not stop watching and ended up viewing the entire concert until 1 am. I have since purchased the entire Nightwish catalogue and their music has been instrumental in my book writing. Songs like Dead Boy's Poem, Bless the Child and Meadows of Heaven have help me visualize the stories in my two book (so far); Days of Future Past and Days of Future Past: The Valley of Forever. Nice reaction! This was the song that was immediately after GLS, your last NW reaction. Most of the lyrics for this song where taken from the lengthy poem 'Song of Myself' by the American Poet Laureate, Walt Whitman, circa 1892. I would recommend either 'Ever Dream' or 'Storytime' from the same concert for your next Nightwish reaction.

Nightwish is amazing. As with all genre's there are lower level I dunno if I'd say "skill" bands and higher ones. Not that the more basic writing/musicianship etc is bad, lots is good. BUT nightwish is on the complete other spectrum. The composing, the writing, the singing, the musicianship is utterly top notch. The blending of classical, theatrical, operatic, and metal is magic IMO. HAHA They ARE the shit! lol You two are hilarious.

I love your coverage of Symphonic Metal - I'm a more mature metalhead but we were never lucky enough to have opera metal in the 70s & 80s. I often type into You Tube "Symphonic Metal" & listen to it all day long. Nightwish rock !!!

I got into Nightwish a couple of years back, when I was about 56, so you're not alone. Saw them for the first time at Wembley Arena in 2018, and was blown away. Booked again for December this year, so hoping this crazy world sorts itself out by then.

Another metal band that will blow you away is the Canadian band Unleash the Archers. Check out "Awakening". It's a studio video and the musicianship (guitar, drums, and vocals) is mind boggling. The video shows close ups of the musicians so you can see what their hands and feet are doing - very cool!

That whole Night Wish show at Wacken (Vacken) is excellent every song stay with it, try them at Wembley, Rio, and Tampere after. You might want to listen to Floor the Valkyrie/ Siren Queen she s 6'1'' without the heels, on a Dutch tv show last year Beste Zangers she was hardly know in her own country. It's several singers taking it in turns to sing each others songs or their favourites but they do it in their own style. Floor sings in a few different languages on the show, she also sings phantom of the opera with Henk Port who played the phantom for year in Holland.

2 of the coolest ladies around. Grace Slick...love the comparison and on stage yes especially in her Airplane days (Viet Nam era). However, Floor and Grace couldn't be more different off stage. Floor is the most non-dive I have ever met and despite her gifts, which she has worked her butt off to perfect, she is the most laid back easy going nicest person you would want to hang out with. Grace was great especially if you wanted a good loud time!!! This concert is great and the crowd is insane, not as crazy as River Plate but really great and why not they are at Wacken, the Mecca of Metal for a great outdoor concert under the stars.
Hey if you want crowd reaction then might I suggest an AC/DC number from River Plate such as Rock N Roll Train (ruclips.net/video/RHpClGAAvpg/видео.html) that crowd jumped so much they caused damage to the building around the stadium, now that is reaction!!!!!

I don't know if many here have mentioned it, but as a teacher, you'd absolutely love the fact that the inspiration for this song was Walt Whitman (think Walden Woods), which this song is based off of a song that he wrote back in the 1880s, also called "Song of Myself". In fact, Walt Whitman is Tuomas' favorite poet, so it's really cool to see how deep they bat for inspiration and influence, rather than staying more shallow and esoteric.

I enjoy your reactions! The entire Nightwish hour-plus set from Wacken 2013 is available on RUclips so you can actually see it start to finish and it is amazing. I'd like to see you react to "Romanticide" from Wacken 2013, then do the show opener "Dark Chest of Wonders" (these guys KNOW how to kick a show off!), then do "Everdream". Actually if you could do a LONG reaction of the whole Nighwish Wacken 2013 show (perhaps divide into two parts?) that would be awesome!

First and foremost - R.I.P. Ann Waychoff! Prayers going out to your family.
Hey there again ladies, I hope that you are both doing well! Figured that I'd continue to offer you those recommendations I mentioned from earlier videos - you won't regret seeing any of them!
Starting off with Hard Rock (generally a little lighter and easier to understand than metal) I'd go with Breaking Benjamin. They have a vast catalog, but "Diary of Jane" would be a good starting point.
Moving along to folk metal, Amorphis is a wonderful band that blends unique elements and historical-based lyrics. They have a song called "The Bee" which is fantastic.
For metalcore (a little heavier than hard rock with some screaming), Veil of Maya is one of the best. They just put out a brand new song called "Outsider" that is phenomenal.
Delving a little harder is deathcore, with a lot of growls and screaming and very fast guitars with some solos thrown in. A band called "Fit for an Autopsy" is one of my favorite, and they have a song called "Black Mammoth" that sends a wonderful political message.
There is a subgenre called djent that focuses on heavy bass lines - the most notable band that you'll come across there is called Meshuggah. Their song "Bleed" is very popular on reaction channels.
Anyway, just wanted to offer a few thoughts your way. Wishing you both the best and feel free to send a message my way if you both need a guide to offer advice along the way. Cheers!

Hi ladies , I enjoy watching you get excited about the Nightwish music. The whole Wacken is super. But other concerts, like the one in Wembley, London are great as well. I reality love their opening song, shudder before the beautifull . I'm not a granny yet, my son and girlfriend are starting to dream about their future with a child..... so this 59 will be joining jou as rocking granny within a few years, I hope...... love from the Netherlands.....and Nightwish is great, just like SOAD, Aerosmith and Muse.....

I just found your channel, recommended by RUclips. I must admit, I'm not having a great day, but watching you two react to some of my favorite songs has cheered me up a bit. Keep doing what you are doing. I wish more people were as open-minded to new/different music as you are. For my request, since you've liked some of their previous songs, I suggest you do "She's like heroin" by System of a Down. It is an odd/funny/unusual song, and I'd like to see your reaction to it. Have a nice day.
