- Mikes Audi S4 B9 gets a new exhaust! We install the ECS Tuning X-Pipe onto the Audi B9 S4 and change up the sound of the car for the better! Combined with the Unitronic Stage 1+ Tune the B9 S4 sounds absolutely amazing for the X-Pipe from ECS Tuning. By removing the center muffler the exhaust sounds much louder on the outside while only slightly improving the cabin sound. Minimal drone was heard on driving with a deeper tone and more pronounced burbles.

Coming from a loud STI I’m actually enjoying the stock sound and the ability to talk with my passengers in my B9 S4 haha
Trading in my 2020 STI for a 2020 s4 tomorrow!
how do you like the s4 in comparison to the STI? How much more is maintenance?

It is so cool to see the part install process on all your cars!! Can’t wait for the next one, Nice vid
bro! that exchange and display of patience at that 7:10 mark was pure comedy gold! bless you bro!
Honestly these videos are really really well made. You deserve a lot more followers if I'm honest
It's always fun to watch you guys tweaking' !
It does sound good nice mod 👌🏽 great video man
Great video guys! I was considering the ECS x-pipe but ended up going with the VPS front resonator delete as it produces a deeper sound. Super happy with them and install was a piece of cake. $225 USD you can’t go wrong.
Thanks! Definitely might have to give this a shot 👍
Great video! Not to be a naysayer, but I would suggest getting a speedy cut wheel on a 4.5 grinder. Way faster. Also wearing safety glasses while cutting haha.
High quality vid again man. Good stuff
Thanks Matt, really appreciate the support 💯
Sounds great, pretty sweet for $300!
Hard to beat the sound for the price!
I got a similar setup with my detuned S5 I mean A6 3.0t and i love it.
Yeah you need to put it in sport and then across the manual to get the pops. I didn't realise this until two days ago
Only 1:26 minutes in and I like the content good video do more!
I love this! I will have to get some for my Q5.
Absolutely!
Damnit I was going to leave mine stock but now I need this lol.
Intro 🔥
Yes sir had some help with this edit 🙌
I got the AWE Switchpath on my B9.5 and it sounds amazing. A little pricy but worth it imo. My neighbors appreciate me for having the valves closed when I wake up at 5 am because it is LOUD with the valves open.
The switchpath is such a good exhaust I had it on my Golf R. But you’re right it is a little pricey unfortunately
@@drivenbyboost their track exhaust isn't too expensive and sounds the same. Curious to see what direction you go
@@surfercardude9127 definitely looking into the track option but it’s so nice have valves especially if the car is a daily
No jack stands? Brave man!
Where did he get the RS grill? I need one. 😫
Sounds goood bros
Thanks dude 👍
I do agree this B9 gen sounds great. My car is currently running a Fi catback and it sounds fantastic. I am going to install a Catted downpipe very soon with the 034 stage 2, it's going to be very crazy. But I did realize that this car's ECU is kinda wack. Whenever I left the car in dynamic and I start up the car, it's not in the dynamic mode. Even though it says dynamic, but the idle rev stays under 1k. Which in dynamic it would idle at 1k. So if I rev up my car right after start, it makes no pops, but if I switch back to auto then dynamic it idles higher and will do the pop and bangs. IDK if that's only me or all B9 platforms. Just find it weird and interesting.
Every b9 does this
I did the 034 Xpipe i did find the drone annoying at 2300-2700 rpm tho... and the VPS pre cat silencers delete as well, still have stock downpipe, and it sounds soooooooo goooooodddd it’s louder deeper and smooth, gunna do a catless downpipe here soon. Now that i got my Catchcan...
Oh man that’s going to sound sooooo good with a catless DP 🙏
So you have both the front resonators/mufflers and the giant center resonator delete? I've been thinking about doing the same but was worried about drone. I just want this baby to sound deep and loud like you described.
I like Mike he’s funny
God forbid you get a spec of metal from sawing into your eyes. Ppe brotha!
Thanks I think I will get the xpipe, i just installed the cts turbo downpipe. High flow......no cel yeahhhh....so the xpipe will go in next then I'm done i will keep the valves so i can have the option of hooliganism when I'm I'm the mood
X pipe with the downpipe would be a perfect combo! How do you like the cts downpipe?
Would this or the VPS front res delete be a better option if I want louder exhaust/pops/crackles, but little to no drone?
Front res delete 100%. I'm doing a similar overhaul 2018 B9 S4, tuned, and from what I've read, people get least amount of drone with just the front dual resonators deleted. After watching every video on the internet and analyzing sounds, here's what I believe to be true. The mid-muffler, which is solid piped to the factory valved rear mufflers, does a great job at controlling drone, so if both front mufflers/resonators and mid-muffler are deleted (and NOT straight-piped, but H or X-piped) from what I've read - you can introduce bad drone. Replacing ONE of the two (either fronts, or mid) results in more growl but very few reports of drone. An upgraded HFC or catless DP will only exaggerate the sound you're already hearing, but adds additional RASP and crackle. Coincidentally the upgraded HFC is a Stage 2 requirement means most of the cars you're hearing examples of in rev and launch videos - are already Stage 2 or higher. 034/IE, etc. tunes at that stage (especially TCU tunes) will further enhance that additional rasp and crackle. So, depending on your overall mod goals - I would recommend the following staggered deletion method to make sure you don't overdo it. Start with the dual front resonators deleted, (or replace the front midpipes altogether) listen to it (Soundaktor = 0). If you want more bass, delete next your mid-muffler (with the least amount of bends in those "deletion pipes") at a muffler shop or DIY. Listen to it again, go for a drive, make sure to hit 5th and 6th gear at "cruising" RPMs (2K-3K) and check for drone. Still seeking more savagery, then bite the bullet and find a non-resonated catback exhaust like Milltek or Valvetronic and burn that money chasing the perfect sound. Truth is, the quiet stock exhaust is actually beautifully designed and can support up to 500/600whp - it just doesn't make the same impression as a modded exhaust.
When you start the car in dynamic, you have to cycle it to efficiency and wait for about 4 to 5 seconds and then back to dynamic for it to pop straight away. Give it a try
Thanks for tip! Will definitely give it a try 👍
I just saw this comment after posting mine lmao. yeah as u said when it first starts up even tho it says dynamic but it doesn't make pops and idles lower. really weird design, I thought a remap would get rid of it but after two different stage 1 it stills stays this way.
Best color for the s4
im rocking this with a cts catless, and the interior drone can get annoyning, also had to unplug valves as rattle was embarassing.
Where did he get the rs grille from
With the valves, do you have to put it in dynamic mode, ignition on before you unplug the connector.? worried that when car is off, the valves are closed? so if you unplug it, you are keeping them shut
Since the mechanism keeping them closed is turned off the valves will naturally want to stay open and will remain open when driving. However recent data suggests on these cars when doing so you actually lose some power
@@drivenbyboost Gotcha! Thank you! I wonder if the power loss due to less back pressure
@@jongib6096 not sure, could be. It throws a soft code too so it will only show up on a scan
Can I get a link to that rs style grill 🙏🏿
To get the pops you always have to put the car back to comfort and than back to dynamic after you start it up. The sound and the gearbox will always start in comfort regardless of the mode you are in.
Also what I saw from your old videos that you were using launch control with esp completely off. You will get the amax shifts only with the esp in sport mode (short press on the off button). You can hear it and feel it when the launch control is active. The car will not "fart" while changing the gears from 1 to 2 and from 2 to 3 and these two shifts will feel like it is shifting without letting of the gas like a no lift shift. The car will jump forward while shifting in amax.
Bet he couldn’t wait till the video was done so he could crack those beers and enjoy a roadie
Can you tell me where he got the grill? I want to get rid of my aluoptic grill
I got mine from German auto accessories
Did you get any codes from just unplugging the valves?
No hard codes or lights on the dash but If you run a scanner you’ll see some soft codes pop up
You can also delete the front silencers! i had both resonator and silencers (replaced with just stainless steel pipes) deleted and it sounds great. (also running stage 1+)
Thanks for the heads up Jason we definitely might be doing this in the future 💯
you got any drone with the fronts removed? I feel like this thing drones ever so slightly.
@@kulka89 maybe if you reattach the valves and close them you’d have the option of no drone at all?
@@crazycornuto9 oh so you gonna come on here tell me how to live my life too? hahaha
@@kulka89 Watch out my guy! Ill come to the house and plug em back in without telling you!
Great mod. But needs a bit more sound.
This with a DP and I think it would be absolutely perfect
@@drivenbyboost for sure downpipe is a must oem is so restrictive.
Man I need that jack in my life. Do you have a link to that one?
its a 7000lbs quick jack sir.
@@kulka89 Thank you Sir. Let's GO!
I couldn’t imagine working like this and not standing underneath 😂😅
Which catless DP did Brock get?
CTS I think 🤔
didn't realize I came here for 17:53
Sounds great for $300! How's the drone?
Very minimal but slight increase from stock levels. Very tolerable 👍
yah im not doing that to my stock exhaust😮.
The B8 sounds so much better, wish they would have kept it supercharged.
Any codes from this mod?
Nope no codes at all 👍
Learned not ask my wife n kids for help 😂
Wait till you hear it with a catless dp
How do you pass inspection with dps? Two not ready for testing codes will come up
Oh man… great video but the sound….it’s just nothing like the B8.5….lost most of its soul from the outside (on the inside the speaker soundtrack is great)
The supercharged 3.0Ts definitely have a more raw and angry sound to them no doubt
I agree. The b8’s had more of a VR rumble to them.
@@crazycornuto9 B9s have the more euro turbo six sound which still sounds great IMO 🤷♂️
No safety glasses while sawing pipes?
What do you care
Good point. I really dont care.
Please wear eye protection
Where the cayman at
Still got the cayman, we have a coupe things planned for it 👍
It was scary watching you cut that exhaust like that. Next time have something brace it....you almost cut yourself a few times 😨
Your buddy is right, when going to Manual, make sure it's in Sport first. Sounds sick tho! I kinda want mine a tad louder and this might be the solution!
Dude absolutely. Your set up with the DP and the X pipe I think would be so good together
