Installing DOWNPIPE on my B9 Audi S4! *LOUDER & FASTER*

- Hey everyone, welcome back to Daily Downshift! After having the turbo changed on the B9 S4 we decided to install the catted downpipe from 034 Motorsport! This was sitting in our garage for over a month so we were incredibly excited to swap it out and hear the finished product. The install was straightforward in a technical sense but the physical location of the bolts made access more difficult. However, we got through it without any issues. The most notable change was the deeper sound of the sport cat and the burbles on upshift/downshift. This is a must have if you're looking for sound and performance gains! We hope you enjoy!

What do you guys think about the catted downpipe?
I really want one on mine but I wonder if I’ll still be able to pass emissions……
How is the setup, does it smell, or does the sport cat keep the exhaust smell down??
Sounds nice! How come you didn't get the de cat version and just swap overf or MOT or find a friendly mechanic :)
@@stephenrose6039 Main difference is just the smell and fumes. You don't have that nasty smell with sport catted downpipes rather than full blown downpipes with no cats inside. They are more expensive though so that's the downside.

Very nice fellas- also, I like all the excitement you exude, I can totally relate to this. I have a trusty little A3 now but next year Ill get myself a B9 S4 as well so this helps me decide which route I am going with upgrades...the turbo downpipe like that is perfect. I hear nothing but amazing things about 034 motorsports products from the S4 community.

Where did you get your carbon fiber trunk spoiler? I have a B9 S4 and have been looking for an OEM style carbon trunk spoiler to replace my factory one. Yours looks perfect....not too big, just right. It has that oem + look to it, and that is exactly what I am looking for.

I have my 2018 S5 at 034 Motorsport getting the Stage 2 package with upgraded Intercooler and the same downpipe you just got. I'm pretty excited. Did you get yours done yet? I can't seem to find a video on your page yet of it. Maybe we can compare notes later.
That's awesome! Haven't gone to stage 2 just yet. Doing one more important mod and then a track day with stage 1 before upgrading
How much did it cost you if you dont mind me asking. Im looking into getting it done on my s5

Hey, I'm thinking of adding this to my car. One of the things I'm concerned about is it turning the car TOO LOUD. I'm looking for the increased performance / flow without necessarily wanting to wake up the neighborhood every time I go for a drive. I got the impression from some of your comments in the video that this does the trick, meaning it gives you the performance gain without being obnoxiously loud. Is that fair?
Yeah, that's right. If you leave it in comfort it's completely fine. Dynamic is where you get some serious noise
Do you get a check engine light with this install? If so is there a way to avoid/get rid of the light? Thanks!

How much louder would you say the sport cat is to the stock cat? I'm curious because if it's significantly louder I may go for a resonated exhaust over a non-resonated.
It's quite a significant increase in sound. Personally, I wouldn't go much louder
@@DailyDownshift Ah in that case resonated sounds like the way to go. I had a non-resonated on my B8 S4 with a stock cat and don't want to go any louder than that.
Hey...so I'm trying to install my 034 dp. What is your advice or tricks or tools to get to the two bottom 12mil bolts? Thank you!!
Try to go from underneath if you can. But make sure you use a ratchet spanner as well

Will you pass emissions inspection with the installation of that 034 Motorsport catted downpipe
Depends on your area and what tests are required. It will never pass a “readiness” check even if you get a tune or no CEL.
It will not pass visual exhaust inspections.
I'm installing my downpipe and catback Saturday. Hopefully it goes well. Do you think taking off the cat back first will make take the downpipe out easier?

@@DailyDownshift it definitely made it easier, but man those back bolts on the downpipe we're a pain in the ass. Also the fact that I didn't have a lift to drop the old exhaust made it frustrating. But got it done. Thanks for the reply!

@@DailyDownshift 11hrs and I was ready to ram my head through the engine block. Wasn't difficult just very slow and frustrating. But thank you it sounds great and so does yours!

Did you get a CEL?
Did you get an check engine light?
And if you did all you have to do is clear it right ?
Didn't get one, only once but it went away. Either way stage 2 flash clears it

Post installation, does it activate the check engine sign?
Honestly don't recall if we got a check engine light from this because we went stage 1 shortly after which removes all error codes from stuff like this. I would check 034's website but I would expect one to come up eventually with any sort of downpipe mod.
Hey Guys! Thinking about putting one in the S5, but wondering how is it compared to the original one when it comes to the smell of gasoline fumes? Is there any difference between stock and this? I used to have downpipe with no cat, and it sounded amazingly, but the fumes stank so badly I had to go back to stock. Would love to hear if You have any remarks on that!
You can definitely smell fumes. It's probably not as bad as catless but it's still high flow

@@DailyDownshift Can you go a little more into this? Are you smelling fumes when you're sitting at idle in traffic? Driving around the suburbs? Or only if you get right behind the car?
@@RageCage1701 If you're in the garage you will smell it. If you're driving around in dynamic you will smell it. However, if you're in comfort in traffic it's fine
Does it still pass emissions? Does it throw any check engine codes?
It will throw a code if its not tuned to stage 2.

Surprisingly, just one for one day but now it seems to be gone. Either way stage 2 will clear it!

@@jake_kuhn_ Highly recommended if you're going for stage 2. However, I bought it for the sound, it was too tame stock.

yes, but the downpipe is not catless.

Would this downpipe fit the B9 2018 SQ5 3.0t?
Looking at 034's website it seems to only fit the S4 & S5. I'd contact them via email or Instagram to confirm.
It does not. The SQ5 has different length pipes that come up and attach to the downpipe than what’s on the S4 and S5.
How long did it take for install
Honestly can be done in 45 minutes with the right tools, took us a few hours because we had trouble with tightening some nuts that were hard to reach
What would be the purpose of a downpipe change if there's no tune that can benefits from it
Did it for sound but I am also going stage 2 shortly

Stock turbo kept making strange noises. It was replaced under warranty by Audi
@@DailyDownshift Hey man also from toronto, I really wanna start tuning my s5 and adding a downpipe as well, scared to void warrenty whats your thoughts? How did you get your turbo replaced under warranty if your mods should have voided it?
@@Kingtonkaa Only had the intake and RS grille installed at the time. Not enough to void warranty
