In this Tesla Model 3 long range review, we take a look at the pros and cons of the long range version of the Tesla Model 3. After driving and testing the car for over 18 months and 18,000 miles, we've found some great things and some not-so-great things about the car. ------------ FOR 1,000 OFF YOUR NEW TESLA (Whilst the offer is on). After ownership of Teslas for four years now i agree with most of your comments. They really are easy cars to live with day to day. Like you we go one huge European road trips every summer and its an amazing car for this. On another note we picked up our new MYLR March this year and can confirm the ride is much better than our 2021 M3LR it replaced. Must be the new comfort suspension. Very pleased with the car. Thanks for the channel 👍🏻
I've had my model 3 long range for 18 months, did the acceleration boost after just 6 months and it's so much quicker yet has not affected the range at all (easily 300 miles driven sensibly). Also traction in the wet is really impressive. I have since added Eibach lowering springs and that's transformed the handling without detriment to the ride comfort. Also, zero reliability issues, no issues whatsoever. I'm on Octopus Intelligent which is now back down to 7.5p per kwh, so a full 'tank' works out about a fiver, so really cheap to recharge still. Would like subscription for enhanced auto pilot in UK, can't see it yet?
Great vlog. I have just purchased my first ever Tesla after being seduced by just one Test Drive. I’ve gone for a Model Y AWD Long Range. It’s a used 72 Reg with just 5000 miles on the clock. It’s white with 20 inch wheels with Black Covers. Internally it’s white also. I pick up this Friday and can’t wait to drive it. Your vlog was extremely helpful and actually made me even more excited. Thanks mate 👍
Very informative video. We just bought the same car and we had no knowledge or experience about car so we got some great info from our dealer. It’s nice to hear about your experience and pros and cons. Thanks for sharing
Love this video Steve, thought it was just going to be the same old stuff in other videos, but was actually real world experience and best still, from a uk perspective. Getting my new M3LR next month and looking forward to it even more now, thanks for posting.
Interesting points. It's a shame that the "auto pilot" couldn't react to the car impacting from behind and move forward to give them a little more space to brake and perhaps lessen the impact to you. It could also flash the brake lights if it thinks people are approaching too fast.
Like many, I'm in the process of considering a Model 3 purchase. I liked the special offer on the Model Y, as I write this currently AP£ 1.8%! However, decided against as just too big for a single person. Liked the presentation from the perspective of a long term owner and just loved your style, and easy manner. Hoping to buy very shortly after yet another test drive 👍!
First time I have watched you, probably because... Yes I am getting a Tesla haha :) Fantastic video, perfectly explained from normal persons perspective! Much appreciated - thank you!
I agree mostly. I am TRYING to rely on the cameras when backing up an seeing around the car. Hate that your car was hit. Glad you're all okay. Thank you for the review. Got mine last September and love it.
@@guy7622 pitty the cameras dont record like car cams. I have my nextbase cameras in my car and they record for like 300 mile or we it is then loop back round.
Brilliant real person review. Considering buying a new Highland but waiting for the Ludicrous to show up on the order page before we buy. The Performance Boost Upgrade on a LR would make up my mind today.
Cant bloody wait.til i get mine in a week yeehaa. Never have i watched so many positive vids on this car so it better make me happy. Great vid thanks. Only neg thing i dont loke is the car cameras dont record with a long back up.
Awesome video - thanks for sharing, just ordered a Model 3 long range (blue with white/black interior) and used your referral code, just put the finance app in so waiting for that all to be confirmed.
Thank you for the video, thoroughly enjoyed. I feel like I want to own my cars rather than keep chucking them in every 2-3 years as I grow quite attached and I don’t feel I would look after it as much as one I owned as it’s just a loaner at the end of the day and that would grind on me.
Very interesting, Steve. Highly informative, focusing on the important stuff that actually matters to other owners and drivers (I reckon some of the biggest names in EV reviews typically fail to do this), and presented in your usual engaging real world style. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the good video, going to test drive the model 3 Friday. Plan on ordering after I test driving it. But I’m nervous coming from only gas powered my whole life.
Superb review mate! I've had a used Nissan Leaf for 2 years now (30Kw/Hr ... sort of a Mk1.5), so I'm totally sold on the concept. We have a lot of Solar Panel which take care of most charging (Since we moved to South West France). It's basically free motoring, or at least too cheap for me to keep counting. What it doesn't have is the range or the Charging infrastructure to make long journeys worry-free (although we bought it as a "Shopping Car" and it's absolutely perfect for that. I'm not sure there's a better car for that). You've basically confirmed what I was thinking, that a used Model 3 will be my next car. I think in one more year, maybe Spring 2025, I'll try and bag a 2022 Model 3. I really do want an indicator stalk. They should be going for around 25K and I see it as a 10 year investment, because, like you, 250 miles (worst case here in mild SW France) is plenty between stops. I may even go for a 60kw/hr LFP Standard Range. So thanks for that, you've been a big help. (Robert Llewellyn convinced me to get a LEAF based on his 10 year review).
Thanks for your kind words! We visit Angouleme (Pilac) and Tesla network is excellent in France. I think i'd struggle without a stalk as well. If you’re Apple, you can see them with this app: apps.apple.com/gb/app/superchargers-for-tesla/id1056496235
Thanks for the review, as someone who had never been in a Tesla, let alone driven one I found it very interesting and insightful. One question I would have is: What would you expect the range to be if driving in winter, in the dark with heating and wipers on constantly? - The reason I ask is that I have a 200 mile weekly commute made up of 150 motorway miles and 50 miles on country roads. I currently do this non-stop in a diesel Mercedes E class and wonder if I’d be able to do the same in a Model 3 LR. - I’d be interested in your thoughts on this based on your experience.
Thanks. It’s a 200 mile round trip with similar roads to get to my dads and back. If I set off with a full charge: In the summer, I arrive back with 33% In the worst of it, around 20% Hope that helps.
@@SteveJulien I know I'll love it. I've had two test drives and am completely sold. However, I'm waiting until the price drops again and my money's in Tesla shares so they should buy me the car if I can hang on for 18-24 months. I've got a Skoda currently and that's my last ever ICE. I'm being patient as I'm now retired and being careful with the funds. I'm still following the Tesla news and EVs in general every day. The Ford and GM news is good for everyone but it must have made Mary Barra die a little inside having to be nice to Elon after everything she's said and done against him. Hey ho, on with his 17 year-old master plan for electrification of the World... Stay well and keep smiling, sir. I'll keep supporting your vids.
Mega specific question… reckon you could fit a mini poodle and a family of 4? I was thinking a wee bed on the middle of the floor at the back between the car seat legs.
Mine was AWD and was getting 300 miles summer and 250 mid winter, im in the UK. I havent tested the RWD buti think it may go a little futher. Should also have a more playful feel without the front motor.
What are your thoughts on how 3 teenagers would fit in the rear seats ( 12 , 14 & 16)? I have a Dodge Charger now and worried about loosing rear seat comfort and usability.
Depending on their size, I think they might be mad at you on long journeys. 😂 They will 100% fit thought. Love a Dodge Charger, ever since watching Blade in the 90’s.
@@SteveJulien cool. Thanks for the reply. Usually I am just picking them up from school or driving an hour tops at a time. We do any traveling in my wife’s mini van so I think that should work out fine. I am going to test drive a model 3 long range in a few weeks and we’ll go from there. My lease is up next May but I have so much equity I could trade in the Charger whenever and have a nice down payment. So we’ll see how it goes.
The kWh/mile number is only the energy that goes to turning the wheels. It doesn’t includes losses in charging and losses with heating/cooling the cabin and batteries, and lesser losses for other electrical systems. It’s misleading. Compare the charge stats in the Tesla app vs what the car’s screen shows for kWh added to the battery. (That does not account for losses in charging.)
Hi Steve, great video. I am considering getting a 2nd hand Tesla but cannot decide between 2021 LR and 2022 SR RWD. I want the LR for the longer range obviously but Im told that the 2022 LFP battery is better. I heard that the 2021 battery pack degrades quickly and Tesla does not recommend charging to 100%, which I believe affects the Longe Range factor here, and then there isnt much difference in range between the two. What do you think? Thank you!
Here’s a question for you. Would you buy a used 2019 Tesla Model 3 standard range for £15k with 70k miles on and still under warranty? Friend of mine is selling his and I’m really interested at this price. Any tips on what to look out for? He’s had the car since new so only 1 owner.
