I'm a native Pittsburgher and Steelers fan. It was always fascinating watching as an outsider Danny Boy's fall. There was so much optimism in 1999, utterly shattered, burnt, and salted in a decade. Then, toss on ANOTHER 14 years. Oof. At least the Evil One is gone, Washington fans.
Didn’t Myron Cope label Daniel Snyder “boy billionaire” when the Steelers beat the Redskins in the last game ever played at Three Rivers Stadium in December 2000?
The one thing I gathered from this is that Roger Goodell will literally let anything slide and not fire anyone if they’re tenured long enough . The fact that Snyder was able to sell the team for 6 BILLION dollars are being investigated by Congress of all things where he essentially evaded questioning is insane to me … an NFL member whether it be player , coach or owner is the ideal profession bc where are the consequences ?? Whew …
I always found it funny that the Nationals got so much flack for resting Stephen Strasburg a year after his Tommy John surgery. Meanwhile the Redskins threw RG3 out there without fully recovering from an injury. Both of these franchises had generational talents. One of them got shit for protecting their talent. The other got shit for putting their talent at risk of sever injury. One of them one a championship and one of them is still a joke.
Great video, thank you. The only recommendation I have is to increase the volume of your commentary voice. There were points in time where my volume was all the way up and I could barely understand what you were saying. Other than that, it was great!
As a lifelong fan of over 40 years, it was a painful time with Snyder at the helm. I could never bring myself to stop being a fan so I suffered through for a couple decades, but I have to say the day that little Danny boy was officially out was a great day for us. Now we have hope again, and hope is a wonderful thing indeed.
Wow what a comprehensive look at Snyder. My wife is a die hard Commanders fan and watching the pain and suffering inflicted on that fan base is painful to watch. Clearly people in the organization especially the women had the worst nightmare of all. Great video. I've been sending it to a bunch of my friends that are fans of the team.
Khan of the Jaguars is also a terrible owner. Things finally turned around in 2022. 2 winning season since 2012. Top 5 picks in 8 of 12 drafts as owner with little to show for it. Khan has made terrible decisions regarding GMs and coaches. The current success of the team is in spite of Khan's incompetence.
This is like the history of my sports fan life…. Snyder bought the team right around when I was just old enough to remember. It’s been a tough 30 years
Just remember, Steven Segal put out an album of Jamaican dance hall music that had a song on it called "me want the punani". There really are just horrible things all over this world
I have no idea if he was the worst but in my case, I was so frustrated with how the team under Snyder performed that I just gave up on the NFL entirely. No fantasy football, no nothing. I just don't care at all anymore. If anyone would have told the early teenage me that I would never bother to watch NFL games anymore, I would have said they were crazy. I wish the team well but I'm not coming back to watch this team, or any team, ever.
I miss my beloved Redskins. All those wonderful times at RFK. The awesome Jack Kent Cook interviews after great wins. I stopped watching NFL 5 years ago. Sundays for me was 9am to midnight NFL. It’s heartbreaking what Snyder did. The NFL is just as bad.
Agreed. And I'm a Giants fan! The ONE good thing Snyder did (at first) was resisting the political correctness and standing fast against the name change. But eventually he cowardly bent the knee to the social justice mob. One black man gets killed while resisting arrest, and all of the sudden we're supposed to change team names, treat "Redskins" like it's a curse word, and put virtue-signaling political messages in end zones? And don't get me started on Jon Gruden. For God's sake there isn't a person posting in this comment section that doesn't have anything he/she has ever said that was insulting or offensive.

Think the same thing could be said about Donald Sterling and his ownership of the LA Clippers ( San Diego, before that) and his behaviors ( racist) and penny pinching, not drafting enough quality players, etc
If people are saying Dan Snyder is worse than George Preston Marshall (former Redskins owner who never wanted black players to play for him), then that says a hell of a lot about Dan Snyder.
As much as I hate Washington, this is a great piece. Never imagined I’d spend an hour engrossed in watching anything about this dumpster fire but this is top notch production. Bravo, good sir!

A great accomplishment in the history of RUclips Documentaries. I can only imagine the amount of work that went in to a project of this size. I did want to offer some constructive criticism. I watch a lot of true crime shows ans historical documentaries. Many of those deal with rape and murder. I found that your use of certain music and sound effects, mave the program feel a bit over the top. I understand this is a very dire subject but what happens when your next project is about murder or rpe? When you turn the dial to 11, too early. You can only reel things in and now your tone will have a hard time meeting the subject matter. Like I said, nothing personal. I just though I'd throw you an applicable Tip. Cheers from Canada

I was a Skins fan all the way back to Mike Nixon(!). After Snyder acquired the team I lasted about 5 years until I had had enough. When he folded on the Redskins name, it was f**k off Danny Boy.
I grew up in the DMV and was a lifelong fan and supporter of the Redskins. Went to many games at RFK stadium too. Only ever went to one game at Fedex Field and it was so bad that I swore I'd never go back again. Once Snyder took the team over, things went south and stayed that way, with only a few occasional moments of hope, like Joe Gibbs returning. Sadly, by the time Joe returned, the league had changed, especially with free agency. We used to call Snyder "Danny from Bethesda". I even called him that when I called in to the Harden & Weaver radio show once time. All early indications are that the new Harris ownership group is different in bhow they're handling the team and treating the fans. I no longer live in the DMV but have to say that I like the direction the team is heading in and certainly the fact that they're winning helps their cause. Jayden is a rare talent and their team and locker room building is showing serious growth. HTTR!
I feel sad for RG3. Like 2012 was such a great year for the NFL as a whole and RG3 was one of the most entertaining parts of it (he was pretty much an earlier version of Lamar Jackson) Im not a redskins fan but it sucks to see him given the andrew luck treatment (im not a colts fan either but still)

Jerry Jones is secretly Emperor Palpatine. He got to sit back and keep his nose clean until he executes Order 66 and takes over the NFL. His actions on the field and off of it has put a black mark on the franchise that won't go away until this team turns around. Glad the POS is gone. Hopefully the new owners treat this franchise better.
One thing about all of this, i think it shows just how good of job Ron Rivera has done coaching the team. With all that noise going on with the ownership, the disgusting harassment to the cheerleaders and female employees, the team name and how it was handled, he at least made them respectable. It easily could be a dumpster fire by that time but he didn't let it happen.
I am a Native American tribal member and my father is an elder. I could have cared less about Washington's old name. In fact I thought the logo was awesome. But I guess it was too much for some people. I think Commanders sounds stupid and the new logo is lame. They could have kept the logo and called them the Warriors. But all this other garbage. The sexual harassment of the cheerleaders and female employees. That is fucking gross. Those women weren't hired to be sex workers. Snider deserved to lose the team. His mismanagement has buried one of the best organizations in the NFL.
A lot of people may agree with you about the name, but you don’t speak for all Native Americans. I don’t have any Native American heritage, but I have had people tell me that were indigenous, that it bothered them.
@@crosstatt7441 Where did I say I speak for all Native Americans? Don't put words in my mouth. I even said it was too much for some people. Now Washington has no Native American representation whatsoever. They didn't even keep the logo a Native American designed. I guess since some easily offended people were enough to throw out the baby with the bathwater. It's really too bad. Like I said in the post you apparently misread or didn't read at all they could have called them the Washington Warriors and kept the logo. But I guess the face of a Native American warrior was just as offensive as the name for some people. Go ask your "native friends" why that is.
@@crosstatt7441 I get that. But after they forced Washington to change their name they tried to make the Chiefs and Braves change their names too. They succeeded in making Cleveland change their baseball team's name. These people didn't ask a single one of the nations how they felt about about any of it. Not one. RG3 had the talent to be a star but owner & coach put a QB out on the field when he shouldve been in a hospital and getting the knee better so they have him for next 5 + yrs , but no he was treated like a part if it breaks a new one goes on .

Dude is an absolute beast with these documentaries 😊
I like this investigative in depth documentary style nfl videos. Fire fire
Thanks so much!
If the dude’s name is Dan and his last name begins with an “S” and rhymes with “Diner,” just avoid him.
RG3 was no GENERATIONAL TALENT lmao. He could not pass the damn ball healthy or not.
How does this only have 708 likes?! Fantastic work buddy.
Pretty ballsy of Jim “there’s dead hookers in my house” Irsay to be the first one to call for Snyder’s head
You need much more attention ! This is a great documentary

Not bad for a one sided story
Wow what a comprehensive look at Snyder. My wife is a die hard Commanders fan and watching the pain and suffering inflicted on that fan base is painful to watch. Khan of the Jaguars is also a terrible owner. Things finally turned around in 2022. 2 winning season since 2012. Top 5 picks in 8 of 12 drafts as owner with little to show for it. Khan has made terrible decisions regarding GMs and coaches.

Actually getting rid of the name Redskins was an insult to Natives. Most of us loved the name, and didnt see a problem with it. It was a tribute to the Natives
Can confirm. The helmet decal was changed from from the letter "R" to the Indian profile in honor of indigenous people.
Source: youtube vid of the history of helmets/logo's.
I was doing a job at the National Congress of the American Indian on P st.NW, DC in the mid 2000s. I asked the Native American point of contact what he thought about changing the name of the Redskins.. he said” I think we have more important problems than that.”

But I do need to give full disclosure and explain that I only knew around 35% of the info. So it will be up to others, to analyze the info and make sure of it's accuracy.

I soured on the NFL years ago but once the team name changed from the Redskins, I was officially done. My favorite team no longer exists
Yeah sealed it for me. Along with the horrible changes to the rules where defensive players can’t even tap a QB
Thank you.
The worst owner ever and look at them now, don't even seem like Washington has a team anymore and lost their name and everything
Deion Sanders retired after 1 year of 7 year deal and left the NFL for 3 years before coming Baltimore Ravens it’s a miracle Dan Synder let him out of his contract right. But Dion must have knew it wasn’t worth the agony.
I was a Skins fan all the way back to Mike Nixon(!). After Snyder acquired the team I lasted about 5 years until I had had enough. When he folded on the Redskins name, it was f**k off Danny Boy.
In all fairness, he held onto the name until he basically had no choice.
@@JonRaybon He had a choice, what he didn't have was a pair of balls.
HTTR!
It's funny that he claimed antisemitism when it had nothing to do with his race, and everything to do with him being a terrible person.
I feel sad for RG3. Like 2012 was such a great year for the NFL as a whole and RG3 was one of the most entertaining parts of it (he was pretty much an earlier version of Lamar Jackson)
Im not a redskins fan but it sucks to see him given the andrew luck treatment (im not a colts fan either but still)

I am a diehard Cowboys fan and I live in Virginia, which is Redskins territory...I have heard about these stories and it broke my heart for the women who were exploited...as a woman, I am so disgusted...I was happy for my Redskins friends that Snyder was gone...the Cowboys/Redskins rivalry is meh right now...and while I know Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is no saint, he is way better than Snyder but that's all I know...thank you for this documentary....I feel for all of my Redskins friends who have suffered through this
Jerry Jones is secretly Emperor Palpatine. He got to sit back and keep his nose clean until he executes Order 66 and takes over the NFL. Lol
In all seriousness as a Washington fan, Dan Snyder was a horrible NFL owner.
@@the_sixxness I meant that they were offended by the name, not the logo.
@@crosstatt7441 I get that. But after they forced Washington to change their name they tried to make the Chiefs and Braves change their names too. They succeeded in making Cleveland change their baseball team's name. These people didn't ask a single one of the nations how they felt about about any of it. Not one. I belong to the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. They belong to the Iroquois Nation. No one came and asked "How do we improve this?" They just said fuck it. If the Native Americans want to complain I guess we just won't have any Native representation at all.
@@crosstatt7441 the name was chosen in 1933 to honor Native Americans in general and the coach and four players at that time who were Native American; and that in 1971 coach George Allen consulted with the Red Cloud Indian Fund on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation when designing the logo.
