+struck2soon Its hard to think of a better way of spending time, I just need to convince my wife, she has a thing about lazing on sun kissed beaches ..... I am looking through the holiday brochures now to find a railway near a tropical beach with palm trees and blue seas.
+Timsvideochannel1 In the good old days you could have gone to Cuba....beaches for her and steam at the sugar cane mills for you. I believe it has all changed now unfortunately.
+struck2soon Hi, Cuba sounds good, I have visited and ridden on a tourist train to an old sugar mill, but it would take a lot of arranging to be there during the cane harvest, I'll keep an eye out for a specialist rail holiday. I am looking to book an escorted holiday to Vietnam and Cambodia, the Konkan railway in India has caught my eye too, both holidays offer amazing railways and beaches. My wife is happy to go on either.of them, so I will have to work plenty of overtime to pay for them.
A delightful film on a day when the weather was an added bonus, the driver certainly enjoyed the honour at the controls making the arrival at the various locations a head-turning experience.
+Timsvideochannel1 Ah! So there is a group then that organises such visits. I have wondered just how you have managed to track down and visit so many wonderful locations just at the right time!
+ADMIRALSCORNER This tour was a one off arranged by the "Railway Touring Company". You can do these routes easily from a base at either Bern or Interlaken, but not with specially chartered steam trains. If I am travelling to Australia, New Zealand or Spain I arrange my own itinerary, for other holidays I use the "Railway Touring Company" (good for one off unusual itineraries), "Great Rail Journeys" (good for India), Cosmos Tourama (the Canadian in Winter and Switzerland). All these holidays offer some free time to do your own thing.
Awesome trip. That train driver really knows the tracks well to make all them fast moves he did. At 8:05 was them solar panels? You really had me at 15:56 I had to sit back further in chair. You got so close to them trains sent chills up my arms. I think I felt the breeze as it went by. That was a great trip thanks. Safe travels ahead. God bless.
This was an interesting trip around the suburbs of Bern, the crew were clearly enjoying driving the old steam engine, I imagine it makes a nice change from being at the controls of a regular train. They were solar panels you saw, Switzerland is probably the cleanest producer of electricity in the world using solar panels and hydroelectric power to meet their needs. Our train had to be operated sharply to fit in with the regular trains. I'm glad you enjoyed the ride.
0I finally got around to this video, like any fine wine it takes time! Great tank engine, looks like a relative of the "Elephant" locomotive? In any event thanks for another great video.
Thank you I'm glad you liked it. The tank engine was beautifully restored, looking almost new. It was a good day out, our schedule had to fit in with the busy commuter trains, meaning we had some long waits at stations, giving plenty of time to watch the modern Swiss railway system at work.
I enjoyed your new video Tim, although I was surprised to see so much graffiti around, even on the roof of one building! I thought Switzerland was so clean, that they d even allow coal into the country!? I saw one station name that tickled my adolescent fancy on a blue sign, I noticed you didn t put it up on screen!! JHP
+John Patman Hi John, Bern is the only place in Switzerland where I have seen graffiti. I had always imagined that the Swiss were so proud of their country that defacing it with graffiti would simply not happen. The station you refer to is clearly sign posted in the video, I assume the name has a different meaning in German, it is also home of the Swiss National Stadium (Stade de Suisse).
+Maurizio Cantoni Hi Maurizio, I do not know the top speed, I would guess it is around 100 kph (60 mph). I had a look on the internet for more information, I could not find the top speed, but here is a link with some nice photos and a little more information ... www.railpictures.net/showphotos.php?road_number=5810

The Swiss did build some very attractive steam locos.
That house at 4:24 has an interesting collection of cars and old rolling stock in their garden.
+AndreiTupolev
I have to agree the Swiss steam engines are very pleasing on the eye and they are not your usual garden sheds around the house at 4:24
Very nice video!

nice little engine looked a fun trip

LOL - Hello Tim, clever idea to translate nickname 'Pufferkusser' by pics. How this kind of Puffer is called at English?
+pega17pl
Its a tank engine, but if if you were talking to small children, you may well refer to it as a puffer train
+Timsvideochannel1
Sorry to confuse. Maybe the two Puffer (German) at the 'bumper bar' of loco are called bumpers?
+pega17pl
