+Peter M Thank you, I was lucky to be there surrounded by awesome scenery on a fantastic day to see the first steam train over the Oberalp Pass since the 60's. I hope my videos convey a little of the outstanding achievements of those who restored the train and the people who came together to make this day happen.
Tim, I have been watching your series videos of of the little steam locomotive surmounting the Oberall Pass. As a lover of Switzerland and Swiss scenery, that video was one of the very best I have ever seen. You certainly had a perfect autumn day for it congratulations! John from Australia.
+John Marshall Hi John, your comment is appreciated. I was very lucky to be around to witness the first steam train since the 1960's to surmount the Oberalp Pass. The weather was very kind, making the already wonderful scenery look absolutely stunning on the day.
Hi Rob, Switzerland has definite feel good factor. It's a shame the ravages of winter are about to hit Australia, it is likely to be as cold as a typical British Summers day :-)
+Steve Lewis Video Channel. Hi Steve, if what I was told is true, an autumn like this, only occurs every 10 years or so in this part of Switzerland, although I believe that might have been exaggerated a little to emphasise just how lucky we were.
+Rob Brewer Hi Rob, in this video I used a GoPro camera fixed to the back of the train and a hand held camera for other shots, then I use my software to combine them. Thanks for commenting ... Tim.
+MrPeerum Hi, I am working on part 3 now, it will be very different to parts 1 and 2 because we are able to watch the driver and fireman, it should be ready for the weekend.
+MrPeerum Do you mean this video - ruclips.net/video/TVuP-7UHXMs/видео.html If so, thanks it looks good. I have watched 10 minutes of it, but it is very late now, so I have saved it to watch tomorrow. Best Wishes ... Tim.
+Peter Feiler Hi Peter, our train did use the cogged rack rail both for climbing and breaking on the descent. I have just looked for the gradient profile of the line and found these wonderful photos of the train - click on this link to see them - newrailwayreport.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/steam-on-oberalp-pass.html. The maximum gradient is 11% - after a little searching I found it in this advertising literature for the Glacier Express (Page 13) - www.glacierexpress.ch/de/touroperator/Documents/Glacier_Express_Sales_Manual_2012.pdf
+ADMIRALSCORNER I believe this was a one off event, but it is possible to travel on this train over the spectacular Furka Pass now that it has been bypassed by the Furka tunnel. Preservationists have taken the the line over and run it as a summer tourist attraction. Here is a link that gives a little more detail - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furka_Cogwheel_Steam_Railway
If you are or became fan of heritage Furka railway by +Timsvideochannel1 you have to watch reconstruction and reopening of part Realp to Oberwald in 2010. If you don't understand German, pics from now and past are spectacular enough. See cows in the snow at summer, how to dig up a railway station from an avalanche, a movable rack, the rest of Rhone glacier, movable railway bridge takes turns with annual avalanche, and and and. ruclips.net/video/LYuKEpmt3Qc/видео.html
+pega17pl I watched the video suggested above, it is very good, now I will have to back to make another video as I have not travelled over the Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke.
Nice to see where the River Rhine rises. Fabulous video. No4 is such a fine loco. Be proud of your culture.

Hallo, ich freue mich, dass Ihnen die Fahrt gefallen hat.
As good as the first one. Would you tell us a bit about how you filmed it? Fixed cameras? Hand held with a single legged post?

Hello Tim. Thanks for two cracking videos. Have you any idea of the gradients or whether the cogged rail was used? Yours aye. Peter Feiler

Never mind - your subtitle explains Obreralppass to Desentis.
Hi: What was the route for the second part - Disentis to where ? Thanks, Dog
+Dana Mack
Hi, Dana, this video started at Oberalppass (that is the name of the station at the summit of the Pass) and finished at Disentis.
I am wondering was this a special event for railway enthusiasts or will it become a regular service for tourists?
