Guys, I am from Zermatt and an active mountaineer. Even your tour seems easy, you took quite some risk. I strongly recommend you to take a tour guide next time. Weather can change super fast and you lose orientation. A fall in to a crevasse can be deadly. They can be deep, run under the glacier and be filled with water. Easy to drawn. Take care.

As someone who grew up hiking around glaciers, i would never hike alone or without a guide because it’s just not safe or practical.
newspaper headline of today: 2 Vloger found in a crevasse, dead. please dont do this without a guide or alpine experience! literally almost every week in swiss news there is a report about tourist traped there and tourist surprised here. beside that, keep up the great content!
@@anna-eq1xm That's why im trying to warn them ... dead = no more fun, ever. Your comment is like saying playing russian roulette is totally worth the fun.
This was actually pretty dangerous (me being from Switzerland)... every year people fall into these crevasses... tens of meters deep down...hmmm, not safe :-/
drakeandjosh007 that is the stupidest thing I’ve read. A sane person doesn’t get into a car and think to themselves “today I’m going to drive 150km/hr but to challenge myself I’m going to do it without a seatbelt and with tires that may or may not be suitable for the snow covered road I’m about to go on LOL but you know YOLO!” That is the car equivalent of what Kara and Nate just did.
Stallen I didn’t say anything about how fast and they were fine with the shit they had, is it the smartest idea no lol, but the chances of something bad happening not likely, could they be one of the few tho ya, but it’s a risk there willing to take
drakeandjosh007 the problem is that they put other people’s lives at risk if something goes wrong, not just their own. The people that have to come in and risk their own lives to save theirs.
Chris Keen the people who risk their lives to come rescue people chose that line of work and know the risks themselves, that’s part of what they signed up for comes with the job
That's so true. I would never recommend to do your first glacier alone, even in the summer when there is no snow covering the crevasses. And it would also be smarter to walk on a rope in case one of them falls.
As a Swiss with some mountaineering-experience I defintely agree. This journey sounds like a death sentence. Not appropriate shoes, no rope and no spike, no mountain experience, no local knowledge, unstable weather conditions and wrong time planing. All this is why you only should do such a trip with a mountaneer-guide who has this knowledge and knows how to use appropriate equipement. You are very lucky that nothing terrible happened.
PLEASE don't do this hike without a mountain guide. You see the tags white-blue-white - that means "alpine hiking trail". And to cross a glacier without a rope is a no-go!
Wow! I just started to follow these two adventurers and was about to give them props! Then I started to read the comments ! I have never hiked a Glacier in my life so I have no concept of what is needed and what precautions to take. Kara and Nate had literally no proper gear according to most comments here; they took this hike as the hikes I weekly take here in Oakland CA (just need hiking shoes and maybe poles). I enjoyed the video because it seemed adventurous and I’m that kind of person but honestly I was not aware that they did this hike completely the wrong way, unprepared; I guess the video does not really tell the full story (dangers). Thanks 🙏🏽 everyone for keeping us all aware of the dangers, this is much appreciated. To Kara and Nate... hey I just joined your channel. The video, the experience, your enthusiasm is amazing which is why I joined your channel, please keep making amazing videos. Please stay safe! @@chrisb944 so that's why you should tie a few (break)nuts in the rope. They hit the edge of the crevasse and hopefully slow you down. You should also bring an ice axe and icescrews to make an acher point to be able to make a rescue attempt (off your buddy that went down)

As a Swiss what you did there crossing the Glacier without a rope or experience is extremely dangerous. Encouraging people to do the same with your video is utterly irresponsible.
Indeed. Happy they made it but were a bit too casual about it as seen on the glacier. And seems like the way down will be worse for them. Really, Switzerland, unlike the US, will not hold your hand, there won't be fences and guards telling you where you can and can't go. Everything is open, it's upon you and your judgement to asses a situation and go if you're prepared enough. In that case, they should have taken a guide and better check the weather. Happy they made it but they got lucky. please don't encourage it.
The quality of these videos are just insane. I’m nervous for you watching you hike! This is an amazing channel! Thank you for taking me to places I can’t go to
Those crevices scare the crap out of me. I could never do that. Even just watching you guys makes my entire body tense up. That is so damn scary. Literally one step from never being heard from again and dying in such a horrible way. I just can’t.
So incredibly dangerous hiking glaciers. I would not recommend this to anyone unless they were AT LEAST somewhat experienced hikers and fully understood the dangers involved in hiking across glaciers and crevasses. Being properly equipped and prepared for sudden changes in the weather while hiking in mountainous terrain is essential.
They hiked to Everest Base Camp, so they definitely have quite a bit of hiking experience. And they crossed a glacier (with crampons) when they were in Patagonia. So they certainly aren't being completely reckless here.
It actually is pretty reckless - another Swiss on here gave a link to an article where a 17 year old Japanese tourist died last year at the same hut they went to - just wearing crampons / he was told by the hut manager that his equipment was inadequate and fell into a crevasse because he went back into the glacier while waiting for the helicopter, those poles also mean something - they are blue which means Alpine trail - ropes, pick, crampons, compass, and experienced mountain hikers only - the fact that they aren’t saying anything about that and that they aren’t carrying the equipment leads me to believe they didn’t know- why encourage dangerous behavior, you are absolutely right
Extremely irresponsible to traverse a glacier unroped and without proper equipment. Especially in the afternoon, on a hot day like this. On a glacier you use "bridges" to cross over crevasses and in such weather the are likely to be weakened by heat. People, don't do this, they were incredibly lucky the didn't get injured or worse.
If there ARE bridges to be used on such a route, then it's correct what you're saying. But there are glaciers without such bridges. If there is no snow on the glacier, they are safe to cross if they don't have big crevasses.
@@themurphy6279 WOW! THanks Leon. That just made our day! We're just working hard doing what we love. Travel, adventure and educating. By the way Aren't @KaraandNate pretty awesome human beings?
There is courageous and self reliant, and then there is reckless and irresponsible. Sometimes I think you two don’t really understand the dangers that you expose yourselves to. A professional guide would have been prudent for that hike.
This is a dangerous crossing, it's long and when you get caught in a summer storm you will crap your pants, done it many times as a acclimatization hike but always with one or two of my climbing mates and roped up and remember those choppers don't fly for free if you don't have insurance it will set you back a few thousand dollars. My advice, hire a guide
The health insurance usually pays 2/3 of a rescue flight, I experienced it myself. A flight costs around 3000 to xy francs (depending on condition). So you have to be ready to pay at around 1000 francs. If you are a Rega sponsor, they will carry the rest.

Well, I just watched this video, and think the comments below say it all, though some of them are way more rude and unkind than necessary. I'm a new subscriber and love your videos. I can see why people are so vested in your safety. You're both personable and likable, and your relationship seems very sweet. I hope that at least you can take away "lessons learned" from this experience. I hope one of those lessons is that expenses like a $10 bottle of water and other high costs of spending more time in that hut could never justify a decision to go out on a glacier in a storm. I mean, that is some seriously poor decision making. I wish you many fun and safe travels.
I traveled to Zermatt in 2016 and rode that train up to the top of the mountain for lunch, but these views around the corner and up the glacier are UNBELIEVABLE! Truly amazing - can't wait to get back to the Swiss Alps next summer!!

i love that fact that nate never fails to tell kara “good work” or “nice job” making her feel so loved and supported
newspaper headline of today: 2 Vloger found in a crevasse, dead. please dont do this without a guide or alpine experience! literally almost every week in swiss news there is a report about tourist traped there and tourist surprised here. beside that, keep up the great content!
great advice
The real truth is, there would be no headline. I doubt anybody would know they'd fallen in there.
People die there in the crevices😰
I thought you will just get injured. That's scary😣
André stfu let them live, they are having fun
@@anna-eq1xm That's why im trying to warn them ... dead = no more fun, ever. Your comment is like saying playing russian roulette is totally worth the fun.
This was actually pretty dangerous (me being from Switzerland)... every year people fall into these crevasses... tens of meters deep down...hmmm, not safe :-/
ev/dm so what people die everyday from car accidents, can’t be afraid to live life
drakeandjosh007 that is the stupidest thing I’ve read.
This is what its says for people who want to visit the Monte Rosa hut: Mountain guide recommended GLACIER CROSSING
No, it's not a no-go. It depends on the glacier. No one uses a rope when going to Bordier hut or Brittannia hut.
I can see now why the gentleman at the shop was reluctant to rent you the thingist!
Keep sharing your adventures... ☀️ you are both special and incredible humans! Sending you positive vibes
José
Nate helping Kara cross the big crevasses and telling her good work was so sweet and supportive! I wish I had a tenth of ya'lls energy ;)
I can't believe the guy back at the shop didnt recommend you both to be roped up to each other?
If there's no snow on the glacier there's no need to be roped!
@@chrisb944 For complete begginers, I'd say a rope is always needed on a glacier, no matter the conditions.
@@polarlondon no because if one falls, the other one will fall as well because he can't hold the first falling person on the hard ice...
@@chrisb944 so that's why you should tie a few (break)nuts in the rope. They hit the edge of the crevasse and hopefully slow you down. You should also bring an ice axe and icescrews to make an acher point to be able to make a rescue attempt (off your buddy that went down)
@@knarf_inc4790 1 the chance of holding someone is still lower them the chance of falling as well. 2.Belaying only makes sense when the terrain is steeper
Shit happens and people die, doesn’t mean to not life life to the fullest
Chill my dude
Aalivia Welch i am gonna say the n word
Hani mir au denkt!!
Please be careful in the mountains, you need to respect the dangers of the environment especially when you don't have all the gear
@Emma Blontz caught slipping 😳
@@jackfrawley2180 lmao
That is straight up terrifying. I think you don’t understand how dangerous that was...
They got extremely lucky. Considering they're hiking experience (never worn crampons), they should have hired a guide.
They hiked to Everest Base Camp, so they definitely have quite a bit of hiking experience. And they crossed a glacier (with crampons) when they were in Patagonia. So they certainly aren't being completely reckless here.
@@bandgeek898 hmmm. Re-read my comment. Don't believe I called them reckless or anything of the sort.
It actually is pretty reckless - another Swiss on here gave a link to an article where a 17 year old Japanese tourist died last year at the same hut they went to - just wearing crampons / he was told by the hut manager that his equipment was inadequate and fell into a crevasse because he went back into the glacier while waiting for the helicopter, those poles also mean something - they are blue which means Alpine trail - ropes, pick, crampons, compass, and experienced mountain hikers only - the fact that they aren’t saying anything about that and that they aren’t carrying the equipment leads me to believe they didn’t know- why encourage dangerous behavior, you are absolutely right
@@jackie8357 You don't need crampons, ropes or a pick usually on blue-white paths, also not on every glacier.
Irresponsible for the people that work there not for them
chill out
Not they’re fault
If there ARE bridges to be used on such a route, then it's correct what you're saying. But there are glaciers without such bridges. If there is no snow on the glacier, they are safe to cross if they don't have big crevasses.
The fact that they got footage of a mountain rescue is crazy
I think after you hit 100 countries, The next adventure should be discovering the worlds most incredible huts!! 😂
Turn It Up World I love your channel sooo much

I feel like crampon is what they SHOULD have named a tampon.
omg pwoo124 YES
Or a tampIN
Yes
i was thinking the same thing
Where the hell did that come from
There is courageous and self reliant, and then there is reckless and irresponsible. Sometimes I think you two don’t really understand the dangers that you expose yourselves to.
A professional guide would have been prudent for that hike.
Jim G anything for the insta shot or drone footie. Freaking vlogging millennials.
Stfu lol pussy
drakeandjosh007 No, they have a point. This was extremely dangerous. Try to understand what people are saying before you try to shut them up.
Jim G they do understand. They didn’t die so obviously 🙄 they know how to do this.
Space girl Potter they know how to do it, but their fans might want to try and fail which is a bad example to others
I love how chill the music is while you guys are hip hopping across a river on the side of a glacier face
imagine how many times they set their camera down to walk by and pick it back up for the edits
@@disdonc6012 Been a REGA sponsor for years even though I don't climb/hike anymore (bad knees 😁
Wow you are both incredible! Between traveling the world’s best airport lounges, to now traveling the world’s best hotels, and Airbnb’s, lodges and huts. That’s cool. Oh and Nate you chop wood like a BEAST, dude! 😂🍺🍺
Switzerland is been like country of aliens
Everything was extremely beautiful, clean and perfect
Hammad Hammad um i live in Switzerland and the young people are just mean and not everthing is clean and perfect
Felismina Lopes we are not all mean... It depends on the person. And yes, generally Switzerland is clean an quiet
I think you guys have a wonderful relationship and that that you are traveling the world together is just incredible
Dear Kara and Nate, I am 77 and live on a fixed income. You have taken me to places that I would have never been able to experience with out you. I have climbed mountains, gone snorkeling, ridden the Trans Siberian Express, visited Vietnam, So much fun and adventure right from my recliner. I have worried about just like you were one of my own grandchildren. I was especially worried about you on that bad glacier but nothing ventured nothing gained. I was tremendously relieved when you made it back down from that! I sometimes do not watch you for awhile and because I watch you on my TV usually I am just now subscribing but I love you both and be careful on your travels..
@9:01 I find that the drone footage ALONE adds so much depth to your videos. It is like having an extra cinematographer (or 2) to help document your travels and show a perspective that neither you nor we would have been able to experience otherwise. It's really incredible. Thank you!!!
One of the most exciting vlogs you've made, guys! Switzerland truly is something else! A Switzerland road trip is probably in the top 5 of our bucket list - and for good reasons it seems!
hey, theres Bas Dost looking vlogger on C. Ronaldo looking vlog ahaha cheers!
Fábio Machado hahaha! Small world ☺️
I actually liked the broken microphone... it added to the intesity of the video! Especially when you were crossing the water on those rocks. Thank you for updating on Instagram, for a minute I was so worried you wouldn't make it back down alive!
What a great perspective! 😍 but we promise we’re getting it fixed! 💗👏🏼 thanks for watching!!
I think the way Nate helps Kara is so sweet❤️. Love y’all
I love that Nate never leaves Kara behind he always helps her over the cracks, what a gentleman.
We were so nervous watching your updates on your instagram stories while you did this hike! So glad you guys did this hike. The views are so incredibly epic :)
I may need to get insta.....
They got very lucky very stupid of them to do this without proper gear or experience
I loved your Middle East videos but Switzerland tops em all. Its so stunning!
Guys you are incredible! Such an inspiration for us!
Thank you for all your adventures and vibes!
I love how happy Kara is all the time. It even makes me happier! You too Nate!
I love their vlogs but you can tell sometimes she's coming across fake.
It blows my mind how mad people get at you all for getting out of your comfort zone and taking risk and just LIVING YOUR LIFE! Driving your car is just as dangerous.. I love watching you all and I hope you both keep living and enjoying life and traveling!
You both are awesome & brave but I must agree with the other comments. You really went overboard with this one. Please think this through more carefully for future trips. We all care about you. God bless.
This couple is not given enough credits for their hardwork in sharing us beautiful sights and places around the world. I can only imagine the challenges and tough trecking or hiking they had been through just to reach their destination and share with us their amazing experience.. The views they had accumulated so far is too little for the amount of satisfaction the viewers get from their videos. I myself is a new fan and i enjoyed a lot. Anyway thanks for sharing us you wonderful experience in your travel and keep safe always.
Thank-you for taking me to places I'll never go, and presenting it so beautifully.
Nature in Swiss is SPEECHLESS!!!! You are so so brave and hands down for this tour!!! xx
Omg Nate you love Kara so much, the way you helped her over the glacier!!! & vice versa! You guys are SO adorable
Kara vs the Turnstiles is one of my favorite ongoing sagas.

Kara and Nate *DEADLY TURNSTILES*
My heart was pounding during some of those glacier scenes! Can't imagine what it was like to actually do it.
But it was really cool to see how you two work together in those sorts of situations! Couple goals.
Oh my word, that was so DANGEROUS!!!
the scenimatic starting at *9:00* is *absolutely* , incredibly, *mind-bendingly* , awe-inspiring, amazing and I love it.
I don’t know about anyone else but I personally think it is so sweet that Nate was coaching Kara through the walking and jumping that they had to do
Going on hikes like these without proper equipment is so incredibly irresponsible ... growing up in the alps with daily news of hikers getting injured/lost/dying .... that's why ... stop encouraging it
@Liam Pianoboy they did 100% not know what they were doing. They lucked out.
you don't "explore" on a glacier. "Exploring" on a glacier gets you at best trapped, at worst killed
@Liam Pianoboy i don't want them to get trapped and as I said ... they lucked out but my home is in the damn alps and I see every year just how many rescue missions have to be undertaken and not all of them have a happy ending so take a seat with your "just exploring"
I can’t help but giggle with suspense every time we see Kara approach a turnstile. 😁😁😁
I'm seriously hooked! This is better than any reality tv show lol. You guys should go to Niagara Falls, it'd be amazing
Niagara falls arent's so amazing though

This looked incredible and I’m glad you made it but you definitely should have been roped up and had an experienced guide to be crossing those crevasses! Glad you are safe and love your videos!
Mountain can be extremely dangerous, you can't image how many people lost their life there. Next time try to be more careful and go with an expert (alpin guide). My parents told me not to take risk with the mountain. I'm Swiss. 🇨🇭
