Hi to Slovenia, thank you for the nice ride on one of the two Switzerland-Italy routes. 👍🏻 Great landscape and masterful track construction back then. Best regards 😊🙋🏼♂️
Another great video, beautful scenery (I live in UK) and also really pleased that you take the time to put the names of places, towns, etc. that the train goes through Thank you for some superb viewing.
About 20 years ago, I took the Cisalpino (ETR470) train from Venice and took this route in the opposite direction.(Changed to another train at Brig) It was a moving experience that gave me goosebumps.🤩😍 Thank you so much ! 👍👍👍
Thanks for changing the distance description, now clearer with no confusion and delay? The BLS Re 4/4 (425) is 60 years old next year ('24). There is talk of a replacement. You did not meet a Simplon-Inter-Modal freight on your journey. The existence of these trains explains the multiple cross overs on the mountain route. Because the route was designed when wagons where short and the longest vehicle on the railway was a passenger coach clearance in curved tunnels was within running tolerance. New tech has brought longer wagons and wider containers (Euro Norm) so they do not fit safely. Solution is to send long wide inter modals round the outside track on curved tunnels. A rather torturous route over the mountain between Brig and Frutigen. They could use the base tunnel but that is for high speed and is only single on part of the tunnel. As soon as you hit Italy's tracks you see where Little Weeds ancestors come from.
Beautiful railway plant! One cannot but appreciate the vision of the early planners of the national infrastructures where public funds were prioritized for railway related purposes, including for the impressive tunneling works. This is in sharp contrast to the situation in North America where the priorities are for highway related projects. 2023/10/03. Ontario, Canada.
@paul-andrelarose3389 Thank you for your comment. It is a very beautiful, and well planned, and well maintained railway route. Greetings to Ontario, Canada from Slovenia.
When the Simplon line was activated in 1905, only the long single-track tunnel had been electrified with three-phase alternating current. Therefore between Iselle di Trasquera and Domodossola the service was carried out by steam locomotives of the Swiss federal railways. Probably the only case in the world in which railway traction in a state was carried out with locomotives belonging to a foreign railway network, without these normally continuing the journey towards their own country of origin. A further change of traction then took place in Domodossola. Therefore between Geneva and Milan there was a change of traction in Brig, a subsequent change in Iselle di Trasquera and finally a further change of locomotive in Domodossola!
Very beautiful line with a not very well known peculiarity, from the Swiss border to Domodossola the railway is Italian, the stations are Italian, but the signaling is Swiss, which is quite unusual, probably also the change in voltage takes place in Domodossola, so up to the Swiss border uses Swiss voltage for the catenary. Great video I really liked it
In reality not from the border but from the PDE of Iselle di Trasquera. Freight trains coming from Sempione generally continue to Domo II using a single track line also electrified at 15 kV 16 ⅔ Hz and with Swiss signaling. The single track line from Cadenazzo to Luino also has two railway stations in Italy belonging to RFI (Italian State Railways). They are Pino Tronzano and Maccagno. The signals are Swiss. In the event of a crossing, the Swiss train drivers do not understand why one of the two crossing trains is kept stopped at the protection signal until the other train has completely recovered. This is because, although the signals are Swiss, the more restrictive Italian regulations are applied.
@@Luigi-uj5ml Thanks for this clarification. So as I thought the change in power supply takes place in Domo, where it goes from 15kv alternating current to 4000kv Italian direct current.
@@andrealuigigobber2095Voltage change: in Domodossola for passenger trains and in Domo II for freight trains. Between Iselle di Trasquera and Preglia, the Rollende Landstraße can only travel on the right track. Therefore, if the driver of a RoLa encounters a main signal with the purple light underneath lit, he must apply emergency braking.
@@ZvonimirZelenika Exact! Otherwise, the Swiss train driver would see the purple light lit under the starting signal. Even in the event of departure from Preglia with a no-go signal due to a fault, the Swiss train driver would see the warning sign reminding him of the absolute ban on traveling on the right track.
@@ZvonimirZelenika Genau!
@paolopetronio8260 Thank you for your compliments and the additional information and corrections. I have two different cameras, maybe there is the difference that you mentioned.

We used to Milk 52 Milch Kuhes lol 1970/71 however amazing speeds on the Open country side 160kph but still slow grind thru ghe tunnels lol Just Amazing Landscapes .... awesome ZL2SCI
Congratulations on this beautiful railway video, with the station information, the names of the tunnels and bridges. Unfortunately, however, you made a mistake at minute 03.00, when naming the Aare Viaduct. This viaduct is called Lorraine and not Donnerbühl. At the western exit of Bern station is the Donnerbühl Tunnel. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to more beautiful videos from you.
The things that seems to be constant with almost every layout is and abundance of lies with pour in from every direction providing excellent views of the board from every direction. However, it appears that none of the layout makers choose a single point light source, like the sun, which would provide more realistic lighting and provide cast shadows for all objects. Tell me if you have seen a layout with cast shadows.
The scale of the speedometer is sometimes odd like 0, 43, 65, 128, 170, sometimes strange like 0, 45, 90, 135, 108 (those aren't angles, are they?), and sometimes (even) multiples of 10. How come?

@Stas1661 It is, I agree.
That underpass in the beginning at Wankdorf must be brand new!
@jwslijm7278 It looks like it.
It is quite new, yes. It was built to increase capacity, as crossing tracks is an operational pain.
Am Anfang Richtung Thun ist der Lorraineviadukt und nicht Donnerbühl und Weyermannshaus
@bernhardthie4357 Thank you for this.
@TheLejinad GoPro.
So nice videos
@pranowobaris94 Thanks.
@@RailRelaxation very good
@stephanpraast9199 I am not sure if it is Matterhorn as I don't know the area so good. Maybe someone from there will be able to answer your question. I wish you a nice Sunday too.
@paolopetronio8260 Thank you for your compliments and the additional information and corrections. I have two different cameras, maybe there is the difference that you mentioned.
Nice video
@adamblunsdon7784 Thanks.
@@RailRelaxation your welcome
Foarte frumos!👏
@fanelparaschiv5580 Thanks!
Great train ride, thank you! Did the Bern-Kandersteg part multiple times.
I notice you use the train whistle at Italian tunnels only.
@leoiske5320 Great. It is a wonderful ride.
Nice trip ! Sorry to say, your instruments are way out of line, pun intended 😉 104kph at the stopped start and 0 kms for miles, lol ^^ Splendid line, thanks for the trip ❤🖖
@shadmtmtn1603 Thank you. The thing is that the displayed data are GPS-based and on a journey with so many tunnels the GPS is not accurate.
@@RailRelaxation Same as always, lol : computer-based solutions are amazing, as long as the computer works ^^
Thanks for the view 😉👍
@shadmtmtn1603 You are welcome.
Being overtaking by Traverso and meeting MUTZ at the same time was nice
I see you had to switch trainset in Brig
@aviano72 Thats right.
Lol first time i have seen a broken downtrain on Swiss Rail Network lol first time for every thing i guess ... they just dont build trains like ghey used to lol i used on a Farm next next to the rail line between Ostermundegen and Muri ... The Old Krocodiles used to rumble past ... Amazing that Farm is being slowly Swallowed up by a Tower Block Housing Estate ... We used to Milk 52 Milch Kuhes lol 1970/71 however amazing speeds on the Open country side 160kph but still slow grind thru ghe tunnels lol Just Amazing Landscapes .... awesome ZL2SCI
Schweiz aus dem Bilderbuch 😊
@volkerjurgens1717 True!
@reinhardmesserli7325 Thanks for the info! I will change it in the description of the video.
Ein sehr gutes video
@hansrichardnohrer2834 Danke!
@user-np7se4cs6t Thanks.
Nice
@pierogiuliano8167 Thanks.
mega cool 👍🙂🌝
@alexanderreichmann444 Thank you!
@Luigi-uj5ml Thank you for this info.
A German would say , wie schön !!! LOL🥸
@sellier-bellot22 Danke! In German...😀
One of the things that seems like is not included on even the most elaborate train layouts are cast shadows.
WOW!
@doogboy I am glad that you liked it.
Grandi...
@user-jv6fx4qy7j Thank you.
Domodossola-Milano, a quando?
Video spettacolare.👍
@fabiomentesana8191
Not just yet....
😮doido...saiu fora completamente do tema proposto!!!
>Wankdorf
Add that to the list of cities with funny names!
@roygoodhand1301 😊
Goodhand would be a fitting name for an inhabitant! 🙂
@stefanknuchel6232 I am sorry for the mistake.
How come you don’t use your headlights when running the train it’s much safer if you turn your headlights on all the time. Good luck.
@dmcalais Thanks for the tip. I am not driving. And, the camera I use is not very good in low light, so sometimes it seems that there are no lights...
Dear friend, what kind of camera is this?
@Road_Europe_Trip I film with GoPro camera.
Nice video! Can you do one from Koblenz to Mainz in Germany? That route has an amazing landscape
@rubenbloemert7886 Great suggestion! I will look into it.
Strong pawar,
C.E.R.N 😮
I;m sure I went between Brig and Domodossola in 1999. Fun trip.
@richarddx22 Nice. Now you can see if anything changed...
The scale of the speedometer is sometimes odd like 0, 43, 65, 128, 170, sometimes strange like 0, 45, 90, 135, 108 (those aren't angles, are they?), and sometimes (even) multiples of 10. How come?
@_hca_ It is speed, it depends on the maximum speed and the program divides it... that's why it is like this.
Wich is the second train after the change at Brig? Which iss its final destination? Does it continue the trip beyond Domodossola?
❤❤ Simplon Tunnel speed 140 km/h
@lolanene7323 😁
@antoniosaglimbeni8837 No sei quando.
👏👏👏☺️👍
@user-pn7br5jn7b thanks.
@vincenzocanta9783 Sad to hear that.
Wait in Münsingen u stoper at 100 200 Meter but in Thun u passed 100 and 200 how so?
Speedometer is STUCK at 104 kmph and trip meter is stuck also
@robertschubert92 Sorry for that, too many and too long tunnels for GPS based data.
@Luigi-uj5ml Sorry to hear that. I hope the driver is ok.
Prima.
@christianlanz1680 👍
ça date de quand ?
@denisgilles5541 In July this year.
