- The locomotive crew kindly allowed me to attach cameras to several different locations around their engine including the hand rail at the side of the cab giving a view similar to that enjoyed by the driver and fireman.
The Chemins de fer du Jura is a group of railways in the canton of Jura in North-Western Switzerland. In this video we start from Les Bois with 0-4-4-0T Mallet Steam Locomotive No.E164 built by Henchel & Son at Kassel, Germany in 1905 for the Portuguese Railways (CP). Our beautifully restored locomotive is matched with a short rake of period carriages for the trip from Les Bois to La Chaux-de-Fonds, the line originally opened to traffic on 7th December 1892 and it was the region's longest line at line 25 km (15.5 miles) with the final kilometre being laid along the streets of La Chaux-de-Fonds to reach the town’s main railway station.
I would once again like to take this opportunity to thank the railway’s staff and volunteers for their help in shooting this video and making our visit a rewarding and memorable experience.
Please sit back and join me for a trip along the line enjoying a view normally only available to the locomotive crew.

Thank you for this lovely excursion! I've been able to hear trains _everywhere_ I've lived in my 63 years of existence. Sometimes, like where I live right now, I'm close enough to _feel_ the trains go rumbling by. There's nothing better than jiggly river silt valleys for that.
Glad you enjoyed it
The most important thing is not the speed but the view of scenery !!! cheers . 😁😁😁
I totally agree, sometimes it's nice to just chill out and enjoy the passing countryside 🙂.
Thank you to the staff of Les Chemins de Fers du Jra, and to you Tim, for another extremely enjoyable video!
Thank you and I'm sure the guys on the railway will appreciate your thanks.
Toujours sympa cette arrivée d'une loco vapeur dans les rues de la Tchaux
Hi tim, The last part of the journey thru the towns streets was truly magnificent cheers bob.👍👍👍👍🚂🚃🛤😲😇

Oh to be away somewhere!
Hello Terry, this was my first overseas trip since Covid began, it was a real breath of fresh air and the people on the railways were really pleased to be welcoming visitors again.
@@Timsvideochannel1 I bet they’ve missed it all too.
@@TerryMcGearyScotland "Yes" I'm pretty sure that's true.
Awesome train ride footage!
Thank you, it was a most enjoyable day out.
Mega video
Thank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed it 🙂.
Its so good to see this action not very far from home yet so refreshingly different!
It was great to be able to travel again after so many cancelled holidays. Switzerland is a railway enthusiast’s paradise and you are right, it isn’t that far away and it’s easy to reach by train from London St Pancras.
sehr schön. greatings from thuringia, hans
Hallo Hans, ich hoffe es geht dir gut in Thüringen. Die besten Wünsche für England.
40:12 ......and the trough stayed dry! Nice video, Tim!

Hello Tim! A video to enjoy👍. I hope you found the data sheet of the steam locomotive useful. Best regards from Hans and Cheers 🍻🇦🇹.
Hello Hans, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the data sheet. Cheers 🍺 Tim.
24:28 That water has completely dried up! But how long will it stay that way?
@Neil Forbes I don't think you will get an answer
The water was there after the tanks had been filled. I guess it just spilled with the motion of the locomotive with evaporation removing the last few drops.
@@Timsvideochannel1 its actully a drain not a trough
Marvelous narrow gauge steam! 😃 Portuguese is it?
Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. The locomotive did work in Portugal, in the video description I include information and links about the railway and the locomotive 🙂.
