    WOW! I'm stunned the clarity was literally visually stunning! The difference the sound has made from 3.49 to 3.52 is truly something to hear/see... 😁😁😁

    Definitely an improvement to my ears. I prefer the slightly brighter sound and the Vansons sound more articulate. The stock pickups are OK but if I owned that guitar I couldn't live with them either.

    Great vid mate. I do prefer the Vansons too. I do have Vansons in a strat, and I love them.
    Today Ive also upgraded my Eart tele style guitar with Tonerider Alnico 2 pickups. The difference between the stock ceramic PU's and the Toneriders is amazing.

    They sound much better to me. Fantastic value for money too.

    To my untrained ears the Vanson pickups were an awful lot clearer with noticeable distinctions between the individual strings. Nice job ;-)

      My thought too, especially clear on the cleaner picked strings.

    Even through these IPhone speakers the difference is immediately apparent. The stock pups sounded a bit like a blanket had been put over them. The Vansons have a lot more presence.

    Much more definition from the Vanson’s John.

    +1 for the Vansons.

    What you lack in expensive gear you make up for it in skill, hard work and talent. If I had the choice I would have your skills over an expensive guitar and amp. You make new pick ups sound great.Great channel.

    Love the clean on those Vanson's. You can always add dirty, but you can't take it away so easily.

    Hi John, from a few miles up the A19 in Durham...... I have to say the sound during the solo in the final track was superb. I think I fitted the same pickups in my double-cut Vintage guitar, Ill have to check my purchase history. They sound fabulous, especially with a bit of dirty ZZ-Top type setting as, like you say, even with Fuzz, you can pick out individual notes of a chord... great video

    Another awesome playing demo! As for Eart versus Vanson HBs, it's easy to hear they're muddy versus articulated. Not that the Eart pups were horrible, they are useable if someone doesn't want to bother modding. But the Vansons are just that much more versatile. I should add that the brighter Vansons might sound "better" in youtube's audio compression, but we're looking for the sound of the strings not just the brightness.

    Much better with the Vansons i thought, cleaner and crisper.

  • @AnimalJohn85
    @AnimalJohn85 Год назад +1

    That's a good swap and at £30 absolute steal!
    The stock ones do sound great and im sure theyd be excellent for the high gain tomfoolery but for that classic vibe the newuns are bootifull!
    Wish more modern metal players would give a lower output pickup a try, local luthier got me switched onto slightly cooler pickups (bearing in mind I still use dimebuckers and super distortions in a couple of geetars) the slightly lower output just seems to add something to the overall feel and response of the geetar.
    This is a belting vid sir with some great playing and as ever a great delivery.

    Think vanson pickups nailed it ,Stock pickups matched on clean parts ,but didn't
    sound as good on dirtier , All in all a cracking guitar improved with the Vanson
    Pickups

    Not sure if Ive mentioned this before John but I have a Frankenstein Squier Strat that I change pick guards in I have one with Vanson SSS pickups one with Vanson HH pickups and am about to try out a pair of Vanson P90's in another. All after watching you swap Vansons into various guitars and hearing the difference. That said I also liked the Iron Gear pups you tested too.

    As many others have said, John, the Vansons are a big improvement. I think you mentioned on Wednesday's video that the Vansons were alnico II, and the stock pups alnico V. Is that the reason for the difference? If so, could you explain the difference between the II and the V magnets (maybe a subject for a Wednesday video). All the best.

    • @JRobsonGuitar
      @JRobsonGuitar  Год назад

      Cheers mate... good call I'll do that video. Another difference is the amount of wire on the pickups... more wire, more output; less wire, less output & more vintage tone.

    John I love them pick up she put in that I would like to put them in a couple of guitars of mine

  • @grene1955
    @grene1955 Год назад

    I liked the Vanson's a lot, but for the opposite reason...I thought the "power chordy" tones weren't that much different, but the clean tones were much richer than the stock pup's...

  • @BrentAdams
    @BrentAdams Год назад

    Yep, I like the lower output pickup tone as well. (I typically don't have any problem in dialing in a tone that I find acceptable though by twiddling some dials instead of swapping out pickups on any of my guitars. I've not found any guitar with "hotter pickups" that I haven't been able to tame down & work with yet)

    • @DirkGentley42
      @DirkGentley42 Год назад

      For me it's about the note definition, not necessarily the output. I had an old Yamaha RGX421 with hot ceramic pickups, it was even acceptable for jazz tones. My Epiphone DOT (335 type guitar) however is not too bad but lacks a little in clarity and string definition. Mind you I think my ears are so used to single coils any humbucker sound s dullish in comparison.

  • @baulder3055
    @baulder3055 Год назад

    Is that the Vansons I sent you John? I would have put them in a Harley Benton Fusion to swap out the Roswell's but I took fright when I saw all the micro-soldering. Something you are good at, something I'm cak handed at. PS: Beer is already in the fridge for 17:00.

    Hi John, I've a set of Vansons on an hss Cort 250, much more " natural" sounding than the stock, and ads you say, great price! Cheers, Stephen from Scotland

    To my admittedly poor ear I thought the stock pickups had more clarity or top end in the strummy Funk thing, but I preferred the warmth of tone in the end piece. Just my two penneth worth.

  • @tonystovell9688
    @tonystovell9688 Год назад

    The stock pickups have a place but the new pickups were much clearer, I wonder what the new pickups would sound like with the tone rolled off a bit?

  • @sgtmac62
    @sgtmac62 Год назад

    The Vansons are more articulate. Marshall amps are really at home with lower Alnicos. It's why people lather over 60-70s LPs and SGs.

    Noice...the Marshal amp really helps though and talent goes a long way...yes?

  • @allanflippin2453
    @allanflippin2453 Год назад

    Well, I'm not a "high gain player", so I can also appreciate less hot pickups. Definitely the Vanson's have more clarity and even in the power-chord, it's easier to pick out the individual notes. I do have a question: Did you equalize the volume? I'm asking because the Vanson's actually sound a little louder than stock Eart pickups and that wouldn't make sense if the stock pickups are "hotter".

    • @JRobsonGuitar
      @JRobsonGuitar  Год назад

      Cheers mate. I noticed the same thing & I have no explanation. Perhaps the presence of more treble/clarity in the Vansons leads to a *perception* of more volume? That's the best theory I can offer.

  • @christoguichard4311

    Often, when you get "muddy" humbuckers, its because theyve been wax-potted.
