    John, big heart mate. Deserving charity, absolutely breaks my heart to think of children and their parents going through such things. Thankyou.

    More definition, especially at high gain, big difference. Plus white covers contrast nicely. Another great donation to Zoey's Place. I notice at their website they make it easy for anyone to donate online there. So I did, thanks to you.

    I rate Tonerider pickups - well-made, good tone. Not that cheap, but not silly prices either.

      I am a big fan of their humbuckers. And I like the single coils from Ironstone.

      Agree, I recently fitted my Harley Benton Fusion Pro 2 HSH with Tone Rider Birmingham and Classic Blues, it's real improvement from stock pick ups, more clarity and richer, for £94 HH and £30 S . They stand to the set HH of Bare Knuckles Riff Raff I fitted years ago in an Epiphone Sheraton, for £272. The cheaper GFS are not as good than the Tone Rider.

      @@gillesgenete9598 yep. Tonerider Vintage Plus pickups also improved my HB TE-20, which had a muddy neck pickup.

    I bought a pair of Vanson PAFs based on your recommendation. They're well put-together and sound very good.
    I have a sneaking suspicion they sound very similar to those $1,000 vintage PAFs Gibson have just put out.

    I got a squire bullet strat. Bought Wilkinson pick ups. £27 i think. Sounds lovely to my old ears. 👍👍

      ive got a second hand affinity tele - £80 - to my (also old) ears it sounds like my mates mex one - I'm 60 in 9 months and had intended to get myself a USA tele as a prezzie, but I'm not now , I saw they're now £1600 (FFS!!) bollox to that - I'll start modding the squier instead and go on holiday when the lurgy vaccine is in me

    Yup. I replaced the neck humbucker in my semi-hollow T-type. T original pick up was dark and muddy. New Tonerider pickup is a vast improvement

    Youd be surprised how good cheap tuners can be. Thomann sells Kluson tuners that are just 25€ but they're amazing quality

    • @malcolmhardwick4258
      @malcolmhardwick4258 3 года назад

      Yes I got some Kluson roundback tuners and they were every bit as good as Gotoh which cost a whole lot more money !

    John, North West Guitars do a bridge for a Squire or equivalent that has a 30mm block. That would fit in no problem £23

  • @pdp977
    @pdp977 3 года назад +2

    I can hear that there's higher output, but that's about it. As I get older I'm more and more sceptical about the claimed differences in pickups. For the most part an EQ pedal with a boost will sort most perceived differences out. I'm also sceptical about tuners.They work or they don't, and after that it's a matter of preferred ratios. Most of the "not working" tuners I've looked at are down to badly cut nuts.

      Having owned and played guitars for over thirty years, played live 3-4 times a month for last twenty years, your comments are quite baffling. I own around ten guitars, about four are mid price, say 500, the rest are budget, 100 quid guitars that ive improved. I use the cheap ones live as well. The first thing I do is change the tuners. I couldn't rely on the budget tuners to keep a guitar in tune for nearly three hours! I generally change the electrics and picks up... I've Kent Armstrong's, iron gear and some Dimarzios, but recently the IG pickups have made massive improvement on the budget PU's. Running through a Blackstar Artisan combo and G system effects. The amp and effects can offer so much, but the foundations in a guitar in tune and the pickups to transfer the sound, are vital!

  • @dafud77
    @dafud77 3 года назад

    Outside of the amp/speaker.. Pickups are huge. It is exactly why I choose a Player series Strat over a Squier Classic Vibe. A little more money and a world of difference in the clarity of the pickups.

    I am amazed by the difference in pickups I have listened to other comparisons and thought difference “really “ ?
    But the difference between these was so obvious and so much better.
    I wonder what would these be like in a player series strat ? Improvement ? Or not interesting thought 💭

      Interesting... Fender alnico pickups are excellent. The thing is, it's only going to cost £40 to find out.

      @waynetykocki3964 3 года назад

      For £40 it’s got to be worth finding out, I sold a mex strat and bought a player series the pickups sound better but trying to get it set up is a bitch. Basically it’s got buzzes and rattles I’ve not had before, however it can’t be heard through an amp but sat having a quiet plink at home it’s so annoying. Well that’s the problem the grsss is always greener
      Two point bridge and a couple of steps nearer the us spec. Yes suckered in and the neck on my next was awesome 🤨

    Just got a Glarry, frets were pitted, trust rod was trouble some , contacted them and they wanted me to send it back to them in the USA at my cost , 50 pounds to send it back, I binned the neck bought a new one , changed the tuners to Vanson licking, Wilkinson bridge, and a lovely HSS Alnico 5 loaded pick guard bought from Wish.com 35 pounds and boy do they sing.

    New pickups are brighter, so there is that. But as someone comments below the differences are not so dramatic they could not be had
    with an EQ pedal ect. Still if you can afford it, why not. They were not so expensive in any case.

    with the vansons there is more definition, it's amazing you don't have spend a fortune to get decent tone, I am partial to the Wilkinson Pups, but more or less they are made in the same vicinity, but what's brilliant you can get a cheap budget guitar and make it great without costing a fortune but I remember your had this video how you compared the specs on budget Alinico pups, and high end pups, that really opened my eyes, great video John

    You can't beat the Vanson stuff, it really punches above it's weight and I've bought quite a lot of their products (pickups and locking tuners). Have you looked at the 'shorty' brass trem block from Musiclily John? It's designed for the thinner Squier Strat bodies.

    The Vanson pickups sound like they have a lot more definition, the originals sound a little muddy to my ears

    Well, well, the old ones sounded better, on clean.

  • @Barbarapape
    @Barbarapape 3 года назад

    Alinco pickups are far better sounding than harsh sounding cheap ceramics.
    I would have fitted some higher ratio locking tuners, the extra cost is well worth it.
    The sound of the guitar is 100% better, more fuller and the edgy treble has been tamed.
    Why do they fit Ceramic pickups? i have changed all my guitars that had them as stock
    pickups to Alinco 2 or 3 if you can find them, Monty's pickups are superb but expensive.

  • @ray11140
    @ray11140 2 года назад

    Sorry, guys, but the biggest problem with these pickups is the fact that they are manufactured in bloody China. Why can't someone in the UK make a decent budget line in pickups or can they, and we just don't push them to the public? An old friend of mine is into pickup manufacturing, but his costs are 3 times the cost of Vanson due to volume, but they leave these for dead. You want a great sounding guitar? Take the logo's off a budget guitar and fit some high-end hardware and bingo.
