On a modern air brake vehicle. Air pressure is required release the brakes by pushing the pads off the drum or disc whatever the case may be. When you apply the service brakes you are putting air pressure on the opposite direction which that in conjunction with the springs apply the brakes.
basically if you have no air pressure the vehicle is not moving as a fail safe or if you lose air pressure the vehicle will start to apply brakes automatically just because it won't have any pressure to keep the brakes released.

Canadian tip to keep your bunk heater exaust clear from freezing up in the winter is to get a teenis ball cut a x with knife in it till it fits snugly on the exaust pipe. Just remember to remove it when your ready to fire up the heater. Just need some weights for those triangles and make sure your lights are clear. Please stay safe out there. In those types of road conditions the best place to be is the cab of your truck. When its like that it only takes a split second for someone to lose it. It important for everyone to make it home safely at the end day.

It's generally advised in Europe to get out and get behind the guard rail or away from the road at least. If that's smart in the cold, is a second thing, but at you are the safest against collisions.

I noticed the mirrors might not be heated... RainX works good on them... never cared for it on windshield but good on the mirrors... Clean them with Alcohol first.
I am glad you got it to the side of the road before low air popped the maxi breaks... been there done that.
I like your videos... unlike others that seem to think we want to look at them... You are ok hand!

If you have a decent inverter in your rig it's a good idea to keep an electric tea kettle in your truck to warm up water and use it to thaw out frozen stuff like that exhaust pipe for your diesel fired bunk heater

I don't miss the bunk heater. I like my APU. In the winter I will set the temp 65. After my home time the truck will be warm when I get back to it.

Exactly ...and for those who don't know it an APU on most can be put in the econo. mode when on hometime which keeps a fridge, warmth as your saying and trickle charge to batteries if they get below voltage point. But they will never do this..lol

I think that is one of the great things CFI does for when your truck is in the shop they get you a hotel and pay you for breakdown. Had someone from orientation when I had worked there that became friends with, helped him get going on his own after he left his trainers truck, got put into breakdown situation (his trucks transmission was... toasted, one of the freightliners).. He got more a day then I did waiting 28hours for a load to become ready lol

Just FYI, it does matter how far do you set the triangles, yo need to make sure they are DOT distance approved, if somebody crashes in the back of your truck and the triangles were not placed at the right distance is on you!

Watching your truck get towed reminded me of when my 26 foot U-Haul wouldn't start so they got a semi wrecker out to take it, good times. Beautiful Peterbilt wrecker though so win-lose

Sup Dave, I actually worked for a mobile repair service and we did more air-line leaks/breaks than anything else. I'd keep a pack out box with some quick connect or snap fittings of various sizes and shapes, some adhesive, a digital stethoscope, and a couple small rolls of hose (I forget the sizes, I think they're 3/16 and 5/16, coulda been oddball sizes like 9/32. I dunno anymore, been working on boats too long lol). You'll spend $400-500 for a good stash, but you'll never be stuck because of broken air lines again. A spare brake can and/or airbag isn't a bad idea either. Just make sure they're correct or you'll end up kneecapping yourself.

TIP: If you are ever close to gross and driving in the ice and snow the buildup of ice and snow adds weight to your tractor/trailer and could put you over on your axles as well.I would knock it off whenever i stopped.

Pull on your lanyard for your wet tank to release your water... replace the grommets on your glad hands... low air pressure can make your trailer brakes come on!

1st. Happy to see trucks even use triangles. Streatch ur arms out twice . mark it. One truck lenth mark it. Another truck length from middle cone mark it. More notice is better than less. Use engine start fluid on ur steps and on ur glad hands connection. Sound like u may not have a good connection.keep starting fluid or deicer in truck for winter. These things worked for us back in the day. Also empty RPM jug and empty coffee container plastic bag with kitty litter and lid for when u are stuch in traffic shut down ..blizzard.. Etc. Also water.. baby wipes. Food to snack on. Just in case. I am in NM and we've. had 2 snow storms already. Gonna b ruff winter. Like ur talks

You need to put some spikes or nails and a hammer in you kit to nail those triangles down then stay protected inside your cab before you get run over, stay safe Dave and always be awesome 😎

Your warning light comes on before 60 psi. Then between 20-40 psi the buttons will pop-out.
I know because im just about to finish trucking school in Michigan.
Also in Michigan its 10 feet rear, 100 feet rear, and 200 feet rear.
Undivided roads: 10 feet front, 10 feet rear, and 100 feet rear.

if an air tank is leaking, you can stuff any piece of wood or rubber type plug you have to temporarily maintain pressure. No need to call a tow-limp to the next station.

Damn driver you have the same kind of luck I'm having but I've been broke down in Waco Texas. My transmission went out in the middle of the construction zone in Waco Texas. We will stop for a few minutes when I put in drive it done not go anywhere. In the middle of the construction zone then you realize how quick you can come number one . With in within a month my rear end of my truck went out in North Carolina and about 2 months after that my airlines busted underneath my truck you haven't seen kind of like I'm having. Each time I was down about 2 weeks.
