    Thank you again. Otis Gibbs like Superman appears to be a traveling musician but disguised as one of the best music journalists and interviewers. Vince Gill was the guitarist for Rosanne Cash in those early days when she was performing. The list of musicians Jedd Hughes named are among the best. ☮

    I discovered Jedd when he put out Transcontinental around 2001. Great record. Still in my rotation. But I think the record company saw him as the next Keith Urban. And I thought he was more like this Tele guy he’s describing here. Then I noticed him popping up with a lot of other songwriters. Super solid guy. He’ll always be around and called on. He’s so good. He can sing, write, and play. And his vibe is just genuine.

    Met Vince and his daughter at a random Waffle House in Nashville. Just spoke to them as we walked by their booth and said “Hey, how yall doin?” and Vince said “Great, how about you?” I said “Fine, thank you.” and that was it. Nobody was around him, and I just treated him like any other person I might pass, he was just a normal regular guy!

      @bfr123456, reminds me of the first time I laid eyes (and ears, of course) on Stevie Ray Vaughn.
      Summer of 1980, a run down bar in Austin. Between sets, he walked by my table and I said to him “sounds great!”, to which he replied with a large grin “thanks for coming out!”. That was it. Pretty cool, though, at least to me.

      @@melodymakermarkNice! I was lucky enough to see SRV in spartanburg SC in early 87. I didnt see him or Layton or Shannon but Lonnie Mack was down below the auditorium in an area about the size of a gym where they used to set up a wrestling ring and film mid atlantic wrestling in the 70s. He was smoking a cigarette and he was surprised we knew who he was!

      I've posted this story before on You Tube. I'm a big fan of Los Lobos. Been going to their shows since the very early eighties. I was at their first big headlining show at the Greek Theater in L.A. GREAT SHOW! After the opening act, my girl had to go to the ladies room. I'm standing outside waiting for her and the lights go out. Los Lobos are about to come on stage and everyone scurried back to their seats. She's taking a long time (or so I thought) and I'm the only one standing there. I see a small group come in from outside and immediately see SRV, Lenny, and a couple of security guys. I am bugging out! They have to walk right past me to get to a side door for backstage. He sees that I recognize him and doesn't want to be noticed. They waited for that moment to come in. He starts to walk past and I pulled my pick out of my pocket and held it up to him saying nothing. He looks at it and smiles and pulls out a well used Fender medium tortoise shell pick and flips it to me and goes inside. I still have the pick, but not the girl. Fair Trade. Sorry for the long rant.

    • @melodymakermark
      @melodymakermark Месяц назад +2

      @bfr123456, that’s cool too! Any SRV encounter is. I was living in Memphis at the time and my best friend and I drove down to stay with his sister, who was attending UT Austin at the time. As pleased as I am to have the memory, I regret the way the night played out. We’d made plans with his sister and significant other to have dinner at Threadgills (an Austin restaurant tradition) so me and my bud were just killing time before we had to meet them for dinner. We dropped into a little dive called the Rome Inn. This was before SRV had hit the big time, but the Fabulous Thunderbirds were really big. We were just dropping in to see “Jimmy’s little brother”. Anyway, we only caught like three tunes before set break, and that’s when I had my little exchange with Stevie. There were two more sets to go, but we had to jet out to dinner. Over the years, I’ve looked back on that night thinking “you know, we could’ve done dinner at Threadgills on another night. 🤣
      Anyway, yeah, cool memory. I don’t know if Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon were playing with him that night or not. Could have been. I was pretty fixated on the guy holding the Stratocaster.

If you search "Sarah Buxton" here, Jedd did a show with just her and him, and its outstanding!! I think they play all the songs from one of her albums. Really good stuff!! 8) --gary
