I first met Steve almost 25 years ago and I can honestly say he's one of a kind. I love me some Steve Poltz and y'all should take the time to get to know him. ❤ poltz.com/
Lord!!! I haven’t been entertained or enjoyed a story that much in YEARS!! Dude has the GIFT of storytelling, the hook to keep you listening & the humor to have you smiling the entire time. THANK YOU.!
I just had two stints put in my heart less than 24hrs ago. I watch this video and am laughing so hard I just got bum-rushed by three nurses thinking I was in severe distress and actually this was EXACTLY what I needed. Thanks as always Otis for brightening my day!!
Thank you for this gem. I lived and played music in San Diego for many years. I played some country punk fiddle for a minute in a band called Big Wheel Wipeout. We played at a bar called the Tiki. On at least one occasion Steve Poltz sat in with us. The experience was overwhelmingly pleasurable. I've seen Steve play a bunch over the years. He is the real deal, a rare, hilarious, nice, authentic human. Steve is exactly the same person on stage or in front of a camera as he is at all times. Otis, I love what you do and how you do it.
What a fantastic memory to have of john. He went from having no tickets from Al to front row tickets from John himself. John was so cool in this story. So many people, celebrity or otherwise, have two faces, for that matter, so do most of us if we're honest. I strive to be like John (And Otis)and only have one face. It's a great way to live. Thank you so much Otis and Steve!
I love how he gets so excited about John Prine! The way he tells the story about meeting John Prine makes you feel like you were riding in the VW van with them. This is a great interview!
Oh my! Your story about meeting John Prine was so great! I'm 74 and just duscovered John Prine a couple years ago and love his music! Now I'm subscribing to your newsletter and want to hear more of your stories. Thank you!
That was all time Otis. Thanks Steve from a native of San Diego, former surfer and now in Tennessee. Classic story from the post surf burrito to meeting John Prine.
Wow! This man is a great storyteller! I was enthralled from the getgo! We need him to tell us more stories on RUclips! Thank you. What an awesome encounter with the great John Prine! May he rest in peace.
I saw John in Grand Cayman when he and Fiona were on their honeymoon. I was the entertainer in residence there 1989-2000. We had met at the Blue Bird in Nashville in 1986, but I didn't bring it up. John was very nice, but I didn't want to be intrusive, so I offered to help them if they needed anything at all, but they never asked. I played for them in the afternoons at the pool bar there, and was too nervous to play any of his songs that I regularly did. In hindsight, that was a mistake. I'm sure he would have gotten a smile from it. This story made me laugh out loud from start to finish. Thanks for sharing it. Something tells me Steve Poltz has a lot of great stories to tell! I will look for more :)
What a cat, lol. 17 minutes to get John Prine across the street and back, and every word enjoyable. Thank you both. Hope everyone has a wonderful day.😊 PS. Think Bill Murray did a remake of The Razor’s Edge.
A great story presented just when a great story is needed. John Prine's humanity shines through his music and his interactions with people that he met when he was living. Sharing these stories widens the circle and fills our hearts whether we had the fortune to meet him as I did in an airport or the many fans who did not. Well done, Otis.
I lived in OB at the same time. I also has a '75 Westfalia camp;er bus. I could picture every detail of Steve's story so vividly. But then his story telling is wondrously chromatic.
My apologies for being tardy, viewing this segment. Great expansion on the back stories of all the greats that you’ve connected with. Many thanks for giving a damn, passing it on.
Thank you Otis. As a fan and former SD resident from 80s. I've always desired to see him and Todd Snider in the same room, maybe do a duet of You Were Meant For Me.
Hey Steve, loved your story. Didn't know you went to USD. I knew you did a gig with Up with People, or so I was told, after our high school graduation from PSHS, but from there I didn't know where you or anyone went after high school. Glad to see you became so successful. See you at the next reunion. Greg A.
@@artemisXsidecross yes indeed. you also. I would doubt Otis knows my channel. Todd does but he is busy right now. I plan on doing more with regards to Todd and the crowd.
ps... I met john prine. I work, as a bellman, at a hotel in hollywood. (I've been there doing that for nearly 20 years now.) he was staying there some years back. he came out to the valet area & hung out with the valet guys & the bellman for what seemed like a lengthy period of time. I wish I had as visceral of an account to relay as mister poltz does, but... hell, I forget what all we talked about, but I just remember him being really funny & a really generous spirited person to be around. I grew up in virginia. I'll never forget when a stoner friend of mine, who was a number of years older than me, was absolutely aghast that I wasn't familiar with john prine. (you know how it is, when you're young, & an older fella makes an impression like that. especially when you're all stoned. anyway...) he set me straight on that. ;-) thanks, jay murphy.
Tears running down my face! Truly a brother from another mother! "The Deep Dive" Oh Yeah! I will definitely learn more about Steve. Thanks, as always. Enjoy the day.
What a great great story. I was a Rug Burns fan when I was in San Diego in the early 90s and recently saw Steve at the Sisters Folk Festival. This story is so perfect and could have been a John Prine song, or maybe Steve will turn it into one of his own. Pure gold!
This is the great Steve Poltz. A classic folkie style story teller. A great performer that never got the due he deserved though he made plenty helping Jewel write some of her greatest hits.
I first met Steve almost 25 years ago and I can honestly say he's one of a kind. I love me some Steve Poltz and y'all should take the time to get to know him. ❤

He even has John’s gravely voice down Pat; I can really visualize this ☮️💟
Go see him live, it will be "the best show you've ever seen!" 😂
Such a great story, I didn't want it to end. And Steve Poltz is hilarious.
“I love what you’ve done with the place!” Legend!!! And it’s not even the end of the story!!! Hahaha
Lordy....I can honestly say I was laughing out loud throughout. What a story teller.
This is your masterpiece Sir.
Had a smile on my face for 17 minutes straight.
What a great story by a great storyteller about a one of a kind musician and person!!!
Why does this guy not have his own TV show. He’s the most naturally entertaining person I’ve ever seen!

That is the best story I've ever heard.
Me too. How cool. Thanks Otis.
I wouldn't get Poltz started..he's got a million.
Otis has interviewed great people with great stories. That’s got to be the greatest. Just goes to show you can’t sit on the couch your whole life.
I ws crying! 🤣🤣🤣
It's a fine story, but it's topped by John's story that he wrote it at age 14, to impress a girl who told him he sounded like Roger Miller.
Hilarious! You gotta get more stories out of this guy!
You should also check out Joe Pugs the working songwriters interview with him. It’s pretty amazing.
There is only one Steve Poltz in the universe.
Yes
I just had two stints put in my heart less than 24hrs ago. I watch this video and am laughing so hard I just got bum-rushed by three nurses thinking I was in severe distress and actually this was EXACTLY what I needed. Thanks as always Otis for brightening my day!!
Laughter is the best medicine, for real 🎉😂
That Big Pink shirt is awesome! I can spend all day just listening to Steve. Dude is awesome. I wish I had a fraction of his courage.
Great story from a fantastic story teller. Pure Gold! We need more from this character! 😂

I love how he gets so excited about John Prine! The way he tells the story about meeting John Prine makes you feel like you were riding in the VW van with them. This is a great interview!
Steve...great story and even better delivery...I hope you add this to your repertoire...I was crying with tears of laughter and joy...beautiful
