This song is based on the Norwegian Runic Poem, which, as in the Icelandic Runic Poem, names all the runes of the young futhark accompanied by a stanza alluding to the name of each of the runes. There is also a third Runic Poem: the Anglo-Saxon. Runic poems are believed to have served as a mnemonic tool for remembering the names of the runes and their order in the alphabet. It is an important compilation of popular culture of the time, comparable to old English sayings, Gnomonic poetry, and Old Norse poetry. The Norwegian runic poem, written in Old Norse, has been preserved in a 17th century copy of a destroyed 13th century manuscript. This poem appears in skaldic meter. And it has the following structure: The first line of each stanza is a phrase of the following type: "name of the rune + copula + X", where X is an attribute to the name of the rune, followed by a second rhymed line that provides some information somehow related to the previous sentence. In this poem and in Icelandic, all the runes of the young futhark appear in the same order. The names of the 16 runes and their order is as follows: Fé, Úr, Þurs, Óss, Ræið, Kaun, Hagall, Nauðr, Ís, Ár, Sól, Týr, Bjarkan, Maðr, Lögr, Ýr ᚠ - Wealth causes dispute between relatives. The wolf inhabits the forest. ᚢ - All dross comes from bad iron. Reindeer often run on frozen snow. ᚦ - A troll causes disease in women. Few men find joy in misfortune. ᚬ - The end of the river is the path for most trips. And a scabbard is the fate of swords. ᚱ - It is said that riding is the worst for the horse. Reginn forged the best sword. ᚴ - The ulcer is a curse for children. Death makes a man pale. ᚼ - Hail is the coldest grain. Kristr created the world of yesteryear. ᚾ - Anguish leaves little choice. A naked man is chilled by frost. ᛁ - Ice we call a wide bridge. A blind man needs guidance. ᛅ - Abundance is a blessing to men. I say that Fróde was generous. ᛋ - The sun is the light of the world. Heilung gives sound to long lost music and words. What is presented here is a sung version of the Old Norse Rune Poem, i.e. a verse meant for people to learn or remember the Nordic runes of a time even before the viking age. It is Old Norse in the Younger Futhark rune version, Old Norse being a root language of the modern Norwegian language. For people interested in this, the Old Norse language and mythology, there is right now probably no one better out there than Dr. Jackson Crawford. Its more pre viking, nordic culture of Scandinavia and surrounding area
Pre-Viking, Viking is a Name the Vikings never used for themself, the Vikings are germanian tribes, like the swedish Rus, founded Russia, the Saxons, Vandals, and hundreds more.
@@marcbaur677 When people refer to Viking they are referred to people from Norway and Sweden during the Viking era 793 AD to 1066 AD.
Remove the stick from your ass you know what people mean when they refer to viking.
@@TwoPlusTwoEqualsFive32 They refer to the people of Denmark and Norway mainly, as Denmark was the country that did the most raiding, and Norway had a lot of internal conflict at the time. There were probably people in Sweden who went viking, but most of the finds we have would suggest otherwise - as far as I know.
@@pipkin5287 While Denmark and Norway to have a handful of runestones, the vast majority are located in Sweden. To the west of Swedish capital Stockholm, the Södermanland region alone is home to 450 known runic inscriptions. But Im sure tribes gathered in what now is Denmark, mainly just because its closer to England.
@@pipkin5287 The "Swedes" of the time went east and raided over there. Kyiv was "founded" by then "Ukrainians" and "swedes". Lots of quotation marks there... Sorry
So happy that you found this gem of a band, they are a band like no other and I am curious if you have listened to their new work they recently put out! Definitely worth a listen, I highly reccomend! I always find great calm and piece in their music. When I feel like so much is wrong in this world, I put in my ear bugs and turne the world out for a bit just for a few minutes of strange serenity with thier music ❤️ my mom is quite conservative so I can't imagine sharing this band with her but my dad would 100% get behind this because he loves all thing Norse that it's almost embarassing hehehe! Admittedly, I am kinda the same way but a bit more discreet about it 😅 my dad has Norwegian roots and quite proud of it even though he's born and raised Canadian 🤣🤦♀️ typical cringey dad lol!
that woman makes me feel a certain way, shes something special.
The whole vibe of this song plus delivery had me in a trance.
@@JayRuller_ theyre inm no hurry to take you some where, they Build & Build along the way.
What I heard is that there "lyrics" comes from old rune stones from Scandinavia (might be the rune text at the end of the video.
The language might be some sort of ancient nors, but it might be a little Icelandic, German or Latin there as well. The lady is from Norway, and the two men are from Germany and Denmark
Pleased you took the time
@richard spence it was really an interesting experience trust me.
They start the ritual by eating Psilocybin mushrooms
Highly recommend watching the entire LIFA show with a glass of wine, beer, or whisky, and low lights/candles. Trust me. 😘
The language is Old Germanic. Definitely NOT Celtic. They are performing a pagan ritual at a place of power. Forget Medieval, this very ancient stuff.
That's what I said..this is very tribal..Charlemagne the great was even in AD..but whatever the case Modern Christianity has certainly not helped other tribal people through out the rest of the world...
@@yvonneshaub6111 Charlemagne? No, no. This is BRONZE AGE. 3300 - 1200 BC.
@@HemlockRidge yes your right...what I was trying to say is that heilung said they were Roman coins that they would give the tribal peoples during the dark ages but like you said they look more Neolithic than dark ages..

Its Norsk, an old scandinavian Language, similar to islandic. What you feel is the magic of an shamanic Song. Shamans in siberian Tradition ... ;)
Their music and culturalization is much more ancient than mideval times. You are talking about times from just before or after the turn of 0 a.d.
it is completely understandable that this kind of "old" spiritistic thinking and feeling is difficult for Americans with a comparatively very young history to understand, except for the "healing" of the remaining Native Inians. No pure Viking music the music and sounds of the band are based on Archaeological Historical Historical records and rock paintings and carvings as well as traditions from Norse/Gothic/Germanic and Celtic rituals going back to the end of the last Ice Age in Europe. For people with Celtic Norse roots these have deep spiritual meaning and can open mind Putting into a trance that can lead the open mind back to the womb of the mother from which all life originates. In the Gothic/Germanic Celtic mythology, the mother is the beginning of all and is also depicted as a white hind and therefore every woman is considered holy only women egg A direct connection to the mother could only be women. The male shamans were the droids. They were considered white men and leaders and were subordinate to the high priestesses when her children.. it would be interesting what an American native would have to say about that...
I hate that here in the Netherlands we lost our pre roman languages.
bruh your PC fan sounds like a fighter jet lol
I know! it totally mess-up the video, but have upgraded since, please checkout my latest video from them.
If you like this kind of music I would recommend to watch the Group FAUN the songs: Baldura, Halloween, Gaia...
Apparently it’s so old. That it uses Dialects from Latin English. Old Norwegian. Gothic. Gothic it’s self is a pretty dead language now. But it mostly sounds like they’re singing in Norwegian.
@Nezar King they are something special and different from anything I've ever heard, thanks for stopping by.
they use latin, old english, old norse, gothic, proto germanic and proto norse as well as many others lol
I can imagine this is EXACTLY the sounds made by pre-Christian Norse shaman, priests and warriors.......love the rune stones!.....quick note: the language is a re-creation of proto-Germanic
Question is Tristan a name that would have been around those times or area
Haha it’s hard to say what was around in those times, base on archaeologists new findings, are more accurately continuous findings, it’s seem our previous understanding are far fetched, and history will always have its mystery.
@@JayRuller_ I have looked up my name (Tristan) they said it was of Celtic origin but I didn't know how common the name was
Neolithic! Pre history
Awesome isn't it?
It’s really something else I’ll admit that much, but once you get into it there was a sense of healing
@@JayRuller_ Yea man, you should hang around on this Genre of music for a little while, uncover some amazing sounds that send you into another age/world.
Here (below) is his video about the Old Norse Rune Poem, which he reads in Old Norse and gives an English translation. Heilung also has another Old High German (an even older language) / Old Norse song called Traust, which also deserves a mention.

Ahaha - that one is a kicker of an intro to Heilung! :) I love their live stage performances, as well, especially the LIFA live performance of Krigsgaldr. The language is not Celtic. I guess it's old Norse?
Proto Germanic, pre-norse to be precise.
Why do they go to Dublin and not Belfast? I don't know but I would be at the front of the queue for tickets for Belfast. I tried for Dublin but the only tickets left were right at the back of the stadium. If I get to see them I want to be right at the front and emerse myself in the ritual.

Dude, do your research before doing one of these. You made yourself look super foolish. It's Nordic.
