    When Heilung travels to perform their rituals (what they call their shows) they always invite the local indigenous tribe to perform with them. you don't go to someone else's lands and invoke your gods without first asking permission. During the closing piece, usually hamrer Hippyer sees the locals return to the stage with them to dance and sing together. An amazing display of mutual respect.

      That makes complete sense now that you say it, but I hadn't thought about it until then. There is a very vibrant indigenous culture(s) where I live and this is exactly the kind of respect they would show as well.

      To be fair, Heilung doesn't really preserve any existing culture, they constructed a new one on the basis of archaeological findings. And yes, I know the artists do actually identify with this kind of old Germanic culture and do those rituals as a serious thing and all, but it's still a recreation with a lot of freedom, not a continuation of anything and they also do a lot of stylistic choices that are clearly for the sake of the show and not because it's more authentic.

    What I love about Heilung is the inclusion of small details you wouldn't notice unless you knew the historical context, like how they repeat the runes nine times, with nine being a very important number as it was the number of days and nights that Odin hung himself as a sacrifice (to himself) to gain knowledge in the form of the runes. Wardruna had a list of the runes in songs, my favourite being Fehu which means 'fortune' (mostly in cattle form) and is a song warning about a beast that comes to take all the fortune because they hoarded it

    I'm a Native American mixed Nordic, lets me grow a patchy beard. I've been in contact with Heilung for years drawing similarities with our Native traditional garbs and even music and art as elder peoples on this island. It brings me so much happiness that your people in Pakistan also find their art and music moving. It's unifying, good medicine not understanding the language but enjoying the melodies and rhythms. I don't have one drop of Native American blood (100% neon white German/Scandinavian heritage, haha) BUT I've always been drawn to the Native American culture, I guess because we share SO many similarities in how we view nature, our connection with the earth and with the tribal culture. It's always been fascinating to me that two cultures who developed an ocean apart and never met until the Norse landed in Newfoundland could have so much in common.

    • @kolaiktomi
      @kolaiktomi 11 дней назад

      @@InfantryWife85 Right? Tens of thousands of years of separation but only religion separates the many tribes across the globe but are still unifying. "don't be a dick to others, your enemies are still welcome to a good meal in your home, we're all universally just looking out and trying to feed our kids and elders; those who can't work for themselves." Basic decency. Monetary gains are wars fought corporately so let them have their spats, no need to bring anyone else into the greed cycle. We just want to keep our kids fed, safe and educated. The similarities in cultures across this weird world are just foot notes. Many tend to notice the taboo or differences more and this makes an impact on their perception thus making separation. The positives are overlooked for political gains and villainy. You don't have to be a Native American to know that you are still a relative and though we're still in the midst of a genocide, we'll still invite the ones responsible for slowly killing us off and destroying our sacred lands to a nice brunch or splash around in the lakes or something. It's easier to forget about the beauty and wonder our people protect when you're in in office in a city. Decisions in politics regarding our lands should be made outdoors in all elements of nature.

      @kolaiktomi 8 дней назад

      @@InfantryWife85 I currently have a fly in my studio that is annoying the piss out of me. My Dutch bosses often annoy me but I love the hell out of them. My sister has a child with a Chinese/Philippine guy who can't hold a job and abandoned them. We may be genetically Native American with a little Viking in us but cultural influence in politics has more of an impact than what our blood is made of. We Natives see relatives in everything. I'm not going to kill the fly that pesters me the same as I won't slaughter the peoples who are actively committing genocide on my people. Anger, yes, envy, maybe, but jealousy is a concept others brought over. Revenge is out of our hands. Like lame deer, we hold no arguments to defend our treaties as no one fucking cares about our ways in these lands. It's whatever. We're being killed off in every administration and for hundreds of years of promising to protect us, no one has ever had the balls to actually do so. I see the same in many nations and New Zealand is doing a cool thing. We're treated like savages and portrayed as such through the architects of dialogue. Millions of broken warriors and artisans but we're still fighting back.

    The interesting thing is that all these deities are coming from the old Indo-European gods. What we call ''God'' today is the ''Daylight Father'' (Dyeus Phater) of the ancient Indo-Europeans who separated ways, some went to Europe and some went to the Iranic tribes and India. The Hindu, Greek, Germanic and Gaulic pantheons are all related to that ancient religion and ultimately Yahweh/God/Allah is also related to that religion and is basically Dyeus Pather
    The name changed as languages evolved.
    Dyeus Phater to Zeus Patēr (Leader of the Greek pantheon),
    Dyeus Pather to Dies Pater (Old latin) to Iūpiter/Jupiter in latin(Leader of the Roman pantheon).
    Dyeus to Dyaus/द्यौष् and Dyaus-pitr/ द्यौष्पितृ (Vedic pantheon leader, Sanskrit name)
    Dyeus to Dieu (French Catholic name for God)
    Dyeus to Dewos (Proto-Celtic)
    The proto-Celtic ''sindos dago-dēwos ollo fātir'' became'' in Dagdae Oll-athair'' in Old Irish, Dewos thsu becoming the Irish god ''Dagdae'' with the ''Dag'' in ''dago'' and dēw becoming ''dae''.

    Something that they might like to know about, with the way the singers raise the notes and have that sudden vibratos, and halts, is that the songs were sung in fjords and deep valleys that make those sounds echo, some would echo so well you would hear as if the mountains sang back. Just thought they might think that is interesting and give some clues as to why the language and music is played the way it is.

    Abdul's commentary that she sounds like she's giving a lesson - this kind of monotone singing is used as a memorization technique in some cultures, right? Is that what he means here, is that something he's familiar with from his life?

    The old ways are one my father has raised me in.
    My mother raised me a Catholic, my father raised me to know the Nordic Pagan Gods. Im a bit of a weird blend of heretic in a way.
    I find it fascinating hearing your reactions.

    • @InfantryWife85
      @InfantryWife85 15 дней назад

      Same. My father was raised Protestant (his family was originally from Germany) but he didn't make us go to church or anything because he'd always said he'd grown tired of the hypocrisy of it (do what you want, go to church on Sunday and "get wiped clean", rinse and repeat). My mother was from Iceland and even though Christianity is well rooted in Iceland and she was raised Lutheran, they also maintained a respect for the old ways as well. My mother taught me about the old gods in stories, etc. as I was growing up but as an adult, I struggled under Christianity and when I was seeking something different, my blood called me back to my roots (Norse/Germanic Paganism) and I've been much more at peace since.
      But yes! You're so right. I LOVE watching their reactions to things because they're so respectful about it even though alot of things are so different than their culture...but they're also quick to see the similarities (like the instruments).

    So in the intro they describe “Krigsgäldr” - that is the song about the village and going to war. This song is simply an incantation of the runes of the old Norse alphabet.

    Excellent work, sir. The messages that these Tribal individuals convey when doing these reactions, the Alice In Chains vid specifically, are sorely needed for people of the West to hear. Please continue and good health to you and your family.

    I love this channel so much. I'm always curious what they'd think of me, a trans woman. I don't even care if it's negative, I'd be fascinated to hear those thoughts from someone who (presumably) hasn't been influenced by the culture that derides me and people like me.

    • @rotten7493
      @rotten7493 11 месяцев назад +1

      What culture derides you? I notice overwhelming tolerance almost everywhere insofar as rewriting portions of the English language for the feelings of a very small percentage of the population among many many other acts of inclusion.

      @@rotten7493 yes, those things have been nice. Don't get me wrong, it's been a huge improvement over the past few years. I just don't like being looked at like a novelty or a fetish. I work with people who stare at me like some I'm some sort of oddity. I know I'm different and I welcome questions looking to learn about me but that's just not the vibe a lot of people exude.

    An incantation of sorts. To call upon higher powers. Music has its roots in this. It also has the power to unite or divide. Just like all speech. It's a very powerful thing. Personally, I believe in preservation and appreciation.

    I absolutely love this channel and find myself always coming back to it. I think you should have them react to Pakistani rock band Karakoram. They're really good. You should have them react to Kal Nahi or Ye Dunya (ft. Talha Anjum) if you want a broader genre. I think Ye Dunya will be more interesting as it is a fusion of styles. Love from India!
