Being a quilter I ❤ your pocket! A good colour study lesson too. Embroidery steps it up. By chance I saw the recipient receive your gift and I know she was excited and thrilled! When you received 2 Embroidered unique shaped pockets I was thinking how much love we receive 😀💞🇨🇦

When you started to handsew those pieces together, I was like, seriously?! I'm glad you came to your senses. ;) Also, these are all such gorgeous pockets! I absolutely love your patchwork pockets, and the embroidered ones that Red sent you are so beautiful!
OMGOSH! The pockets that you received are SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!❤ and I have to say that the pocket you made was quite involved piecing ALL those little triangles together. That my friend is not being a slacker. That took time to make! You did a wonderful job!!!!!❤
I have a theory on why there would be such odd little pieces of fabric sewn randomly into a pocket of someone who was working class (or below). Memory keeping. That fabric would have been worn to an event, or a scrap found in the street, or the remnant of a gift. Either way, it's a story to share around the peat fire. When I was a little kid my Mum made me a 'strip-quilt', to cover an itchy wool blanket that had just arrived from my Granny's house. Sadly, the quilt seems not to have survived. But, when I was little I remember being able to look at each piece of fabric and knowing from which piece of clothing it was from. Because that's the scraps my Mum used for the quilt - clothing I had grown out of. Lovely work. Well done. Love the fiddle music. Very East Coast. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Another possibility is that those spots on the underlying fabric were particularly worn and needed reinforcement. Of course, this hypothesis does not in any way exclude yours - in fact, yours is quite likely for a lot of different styles of patchwork pockets, not just the kind with random-looking patches.
@@ragnkja You're right; fabric will wear out at stress points and anywhere it's exposed to regular friction. Which makes total sense for wonky little pieces of fabric piecing. Or a wonky little piece of scrap that was kept until it got called into use. With fabric being such an expensive commodity it's a game of chicken and egg. I remember seeing a documentary on Gullah quilters. One of the women remembers being a kid at around mid-century. There would be joy if the kids found a scrap of fabric on the way home from school because they could give it to their Mum for her quilt. We're at a point in history and privilege that it takes work to remember that level of scarcity. My parents came through the Dirty Thirties; perfect set-up to become a hoarder in times of plenty..

I'm certainly not involved in historical costuming and didn't know 'pockets' were a thing but have so enjoyed everyone's process and am totally in awe of everybody's talents...how fun. The pocket you made was absolutely beautiful. The piecing and placement so lovely.
I love your pocket, I do quilts, at times ( mostly I knit, or make curtains ...) and I am usually not that particular to halfsquare triangles like that, but it is perfect on the pocket! The embroidery is the perfect finish. Perfect! Ooo! Cats!
