    I'm a big fan of the Welsh Viking and I think your pocket is perfect for Jimmy. Your magnet struggles gave me such a laugh, especially when it got stuck to the metal plate on your sewing machine. Hot glue guns are such a pain to use, glad you were able to overcome the difficulties with it and finish the pocket. Over all it is a wonderful pocket, you did a great job with it.

    Yeah, magnets are strongest when the magnetic circuit is closed, that means when there are no gaps between any two magnets in the circuit.
    As soon as you put something inbetween, like a layer of fabric, the magnetic lines have to go through a non-ferromagnetic gap, which weakens them.

Lovely to see the different bits of your project scraps get another life as a utility pocket (and I loved the knits you were wearing while making it as well!). The Welsh Viking has popped up in my suggestions several times and they always looked really interesting but I've avoided his videos just in case it was the algorithm trying to send me down a white supremacist rabbit hole. Sad that this is something we need to actively put effort in to swim against the current of the algorithm! Thanks for letting me know that his channel is safe and interesting, not going to start throwing up dog whistles, and is actively against that nonsense. I will now gleefully catch up on his backlog of videos. :)

    Delighted to see you again. I DO hope your health issues clear up.
    I love watching Jimmy's videos, so was quite fun to see what you came up with ! And, who doesn't love a stash busting video ?!
    The pocket came out lovely ! Loved it.
    Also loved the pocket you received! How neat to include the antique linen embroidery!
    Hope you enjoyed the tea. Do take care of yourself. I would rather see you once every 6 months, then have you stress yourself to create a video when you are not feeling well.
    Have you ever been screened for Migraine headaches ? That's the first thing I thought of when you mentioned "light sensitivity" ! I hope it was a transient thing. I do know people with light colored eyes tend to be a bit more light sensitive.
    All the best.

    • @RetroClaude
      @RetroClaude  2 года назад +4

      Thank you for your well wishes. I thankfully don't get migraines. Light and sound sensitivity is a very common symptom of M.E. and for me it comes and goes. It just so happened that this day when my pocket arrived the light was bothering me and I was too impatient to open my pocket to postpone filming 😊

  • @jessmakingit
    @jessmakingit Год назад

    Thank you for your videos. They are so interesting. I also really enjoy that you don't "hide" your illness. I have autoimmune diseases as well, and you nail it when you say "random symptoms my body decides to throw at me." It spoke to me. If I don't laugh a bit at the ridiculousness that is my situation, I would probably just sit and cry. Yes, I do that too sometimes. For example, I had a dust bunny attack me 12 days ago and my body is finally deciding that I don't need to be a hostage in it's fight with said dust bunny any longer. Why my body felt the need to go on full attack and fight to the death with some dust is beyond me. But here we are, sneezing, coughing, migraine, and all the things.
    The pockets are glorious. I just started making some project bags and I think that I'm going to think seriously about making a pocket to carry some of my tools around. I've also found bib overalls to be genius apparel I load my pockets up and it all hangs off different parts of my body. Distributing the weight of tools is a good thing. I know you don't know me and I only know you from videos, but it feels like I have a bit of a buddy in the Sh*tshow that my body hands me when trying to function in any sort of reasonable way. Thank you for that. Take care.

    I love this idea. As a physician, I was often frustrated at the dearth of pockets in women’s clothing. I just wanted room for car keys and a pen as it was not practical to carry a purse around for hospital rounds (most of us do not wear white medical jackets, especially in pediatrics, as it frightens the children).

    • @ragnkja
      @ragnkja 10 месяцев назад

      In my most recent tie-on pocket (18th century style) I sewed in a clip from a lanyard near the top of the back layer so that I can clip my keys there. It does make them clink a bit more than if they’re loose at the bottom of the pocket, but I also don’t have to dig around for them. I also added an internal “divider” going up to the bottom of the slit, though I’m not sure how necessary that was. If I didn’t have the key clip and my phone case didn’t have a cover I suspect it would be more of a necessity to keep my keys from scratching up my phone screen.

I watched it while working on my Sanquhar scarf knitting project, which you indirectly inspired with some encouragement to learn how to knit in a comment on a previous video.

    I bougth similar magnets for a DIY pinholder project. I seperated them once and wound a strip of fabric around them sto keep them from touching when I store them. Makes life much easier. And used superglue instead of hotglue because I would rather wait for it to dry than stress myself out with hotglue.

      I can't remember exactly where I got it but it's the designs of William Morris so it should be pretty easy to find one similar for 2022 💚

    Hi 😀 you said you have a chronic illness but is it ok if I ask what the illness is? Did I miss that? Is it too personal?

    • @RetroClaude
      @RetroClaude  2 года назад +6

      As a general rule I would recommend not asking people about chronic illness but personally I'm pretty open about my illness here and on Instagram I just don't think I've ever actually said specifically in a video. I have M.E. and scoliosis and I often talk about how those things affect me and my sewing 😊

    I love the pocket you made, the colour and fabric combos worked so well! Your embroidered pocket was also beautiful 💜 I'm really enjoying following this project with the various makers, it's so interesting to see the multitude of different ways you can style and adapt the same item.
