    Man is John looking to hire a deck hand? If I was local I'd be bugging that guy for a job in a heartbeat. Catching crawfish on Tahoe sounds like an amazing way to make a living.

    When I was in college, circa 1987, I worked a summer dealing cards at a casino in South Lake Tahoe. One guy was from New Orleans. He had caught a bunch of crawdads snorkeling in Lake Tahoe, and had a crawdad boil for a bunch of us. I still remember that as one of my most memorable eating experiences.

    I saw him drive by stateline in South Lake Tahoe this last summer with all the traps on deck and I knew they were crayster traps, unfortunately I was working and had guest in my vehicle, I wanted to chase him down and see what he was up too. Been crawfishing Lake Tahoe the last five years but on a way smaller scale and doing boils for friends. Can’t wait for this coming season! Usually catch around 20lbs after sorting out the peelers/small with 10 traps on a 12-15hr over night soak which is plenty for my small gatherings!
    If you guys are ever back in the area let me know would love to do a boil with y’all!

      Where do you drop your traps? I used to get a bunch right off the shore in zephyr . But not much luck the past two years. I’m planning on going out on a boat this year but am worried about people stealing them

    Last time we were there is got really windy with some rain. We stopped at a spot on the CA side and big crawdads were all over the place out of the water. We could have filled a 5-gallon bucket in probably 5 minutes of big crayfish

    This looks so much fun. I have question though, I would like to visit lake tahoe this week and the weather would be between 35s to 60s , are crayfish still active at this point? what month is too late for crawfishing?

    • @JohnSteude
      @JohnSteude 9 месяцев назад

      Activity is currently about 50 percent compared with summer time activity.

    Fighting off the invasive species one boil at a time...
    Questions, as clear as Tahoe water is, what differences does clear water make compared to Louisiana water?

      You don't need to purge them to start. They don't come out muddy.

      That was the first thing I noticed when you guys pulled the 1st trap. Those crawfish are as clean as the water. That makes it so much easier to go directly from the cooler to the pot.

      @JohnSteude Do you ever let anybody come run traps with you? Free labor. That's a cool operation you have going, John. I'm impressed. I'm from south central Indiana. We have crawfish, but nowhere near the kind of numbers you have out there.

      I am currently talking with a local fishing guide operation to add crawfishing to their business. The prospects look good for next summer.
