@@paravarium snuck Phantom Pain into the queue at a late night listening session on discord, you should have seen Chase's face throughout, it was a treat 😂 glad we could win him over with Leprous, right?
SO EXCITED FOR THIS. Edit: Your reaction was everything I could’ve hoped for. “The Sky is Red” is probably my favorite Leprous song, but you can’t go wrong with any of them.
Danny Carey is an absolute octopus, Tomas Haake a machinegun regiment with infinite ammo, but Baard Kolstad has to be the most emotive and dynamic drummer I know. Please do his playthrough of The Sky is Red. Also you should probably listen to all the other recommendations you get :D
Agree with the drum cam of The Sky is Red. If drumming is the focus, I think that Moon also really shows Kolstad's great ability to translate the emotions of the song onto his drum set.
So, it sure about in the recording, but live, the whole band sings backgrounds. So if on the album he’s layering his own vocals, they don’t play that track live, both guitarists, the drummer, and the bassist sing the layers. Also they had a cellist with them on stage, and everyone but the drummer took turns playing keys and on the midi kit. They’re an awesome show live!
My favourite song of theirs live if you're keen is definitely "Slave". However, if you really want to know where the band's roots lie, then taking a look at "Contaminate Me" would be the way to go - Einar's voice is otherworldly but when both your sister and your brother in law that you grew up with (who also happens to be one of the most influential black metal pioneers and musicians/composers ever) are insanely talented, I guess that's just what happens.
LEPROUS!! They are so incredibly good! And the drummer, Baard, is on another level. I don't even know which songs to recommend because they are all so great. Maybe check out stuff from other albums to see their evolution. Fun fact: Einar, the singer, is the brother-in-law of Ihsahn, the vocalist of Emperor and who also does prog for his own solo project.
@@ChaseCarneson Hey, Chase! Just a friendly reminder that you said you would make a playlist for this band, and you've yet to listen to their track, Castaway Angels :)
@@DillaryHuff This is true, however that was before Sony started blocking videos and handing me a strike haha. I'm pretty cautious about them of late but I would definitely give more Leprous a go if I think it's realistically not going to be blocked.
Leprous' music is just incredible. I am not even sure I could praise these guys genuinely enough that I don't come off as bias because they're just that incredible. Leprous is the one band that caught my attention and never ceases to surprise me. Each album sounds different than their others and they are all made with so much emotion. Einar Solberg is an incredible vocalist with a crazy range and an even crazier level of control. Baard Kolstag, their current drummer, is equally talented. Again, not to sound bias, in my opinion he may very be one of the greatest drummers dead or alive. Insane amounts of precision and so dynamically strong. Leprous is truly one of a kind and they deserve every bit of success they've acquired so far and then some. Really enjoyed your reaction to this!
I’ve seen these guys live a few times and they have been AH-MAZING. Lots of great quality live videos out there, so definitely don’t hesitate to explore. 👍 LOVE them!
The last time I saw them, it was with Haken, who is also awesome! Totally not the same style of music, but I love them as well, especially their last couple albums.
Every Leprous album is quite different - that's what I like most about them, they seem to have a good sense of who they are as a band but aren't afraid to change their flow in terms of music direction & innovation. The Sky is Red, Acquired Taste, Mirage, Bonneville....I could go on & on, these are a pretty varied tasting....hahahahha

I love this. I have been wating for a Leprous reaction from you for a while, Chase - they're one of my favorites! Baard Kolstad is one of the best drummers out there, he plays with such energy and intensity. Interesting tidbit of trivia: Ihsahn is vocalist Einar Solberg's brother-in-law, and has been a guest musician and vocalist on a number of their tracks.

Thank you so much for this reaction video, Chase. I never heard this band of before. Very amazing band. And this song is combination power, symphonic metal with blues! Yeah, I think. Really awsome sound. Great song. You´re doing great again, Chase. I very like your reaction videos and your analysis. Great work, Chase :-).

what a wonderful, wonderful surprise! Einar Solberg is one of my favorite vocalists along with Daniel Tompkins from Tesseract. Those high male falsetto get me in all the feels. *If you want recommendations of where to go next:* their previous album "Malina" is flawless, start to finish. My favorite song is Illuminate but you can't go wrong with any from that album, From the Flame, Bonneville, Malina.
Gotta say, it's great to watch reactions from someone who has an appreciation and understanding of musical techniques, production and terminology watching these bands play. I like the way you break down the production and try to understand how a band would have written something as complex as this. Keep up the solid work on the reaction vids!
Oh man, I was so excited when I saw this video. I went to their concert in Istanbul last year, it was one of the best concert experiences I've had. I love the way you analyse and breakdown a song, you're terrific! Please check out more of their songs (such as The Sky is Red, Slave, Distant Bells, Observe the Train or At the Bottom.) Love from Turkey!
I'm into Leprous for a few years now. The moment they really catched me, was when I saw them live (as support for Devin Townsend). It was instant love. Saw these guys live with Haken - what a show! Einar absolutely slayed. Speaking of Haken, it's about time you get to them. There are so many good songs it's hard to recommend a starting point. Maybe Falling Back to Earth?
Again this channel showed me a great band I didn't know before! Love it...Also, though it might not be your cup of tea, as it is Electro/Industrial, but I absolutely fell in love with Skynd's new song 'Columbine', so you might wanna check that out :) (Skynd was the support band of Babymetal for some of their tour - also this song is about the school shooting at columbine high school, so beware of the heavier subject)
Now that we are on this path, I strongly suggest Porcupine Tree - Anesthesize (Live in Tilburg) or The Sound of Muszak or Steven Wilson - Ancestral (live) or Home Invasion/Regret #9 (Studio version, as live versions dont have the original guitarrist)
As others mentioned earlier I think you would LOVE Leprous playing 'Slave' Live at Rockefeller Center! Also, I would like to see you react to Dirty Loops. Any song honestly, but 'Work Shit Out' and 'Rock You' would be two good places to start.
