Thanks for video, picked up mordax at NYCKS and had to put skiffs in soon as i got home, the tip for putting in button was awesome
As for any button stick on these, it's normal for the Malibu to have light stick to the button. The knife was designed with this taken into account. On occasion with new knives, especially DLC models (due to the DLC adding material to the lock face), the sticking can be slightly more firm. This is because the lock face and button need to be worn in. There's no way to do this besides using the knife. If you keep the lock face free from excess oil, and just simply use the knife normally for a little bit, it will very quickly break in. Just please note that some amount of light sticking on the button is perfectly normal on these knives. It's positive engagement between the lock face and button, and will diminish to a minimal level with normal use .....From PRO-TECH and Chris Crossman
Haha sounds to me like Protec covering their asses with some hot air...
You think Protech is the only company who's ever used DLC or any type of coating?
I've had many knives where DLC coating made the operation much smoother...
One is a button-lock.
Don't buy into that nonsense about it being an intentional design...
Nobody would intentionally design a knife to have stick.
Yes correct, it may break in and get better, but I'll bet you my bottom dollar it sure as hell isn't "by Design"
Maybe "a design fault"...
There's not a knife designer on Earth putting lock stick or button stick in "as a design feature"
What you just wrote my friend is a guy covering his ass so his buyers don't send their knives back complaining of button stick.
It's humorous though..
*A hypothetical For Example* -
It's about like an Automobile Manufacturing Company whose Flagship model had a loose lug nuts problem eventually causing tires to come falling off while being driven.
They decide to put out a statement to avoid a recall.
The Automobile manufacturer comes out and says " it's actually an ingenious intentional design feature called self loosening lug nuts, you may lose a few tires but it's a design feature that helps break our heavy duty axles in by driving on them- once you lose a tire or two on the road, your car axles should be nice and broken in"😅
Just got my Stout, thanks for all the extras. Good blade design. Congrats.
Awesome! Thanks
I believe the lock stick is due to less than perfect alignment of the blade and the button lock interface not the spring mechanism. If you try to seed the spring and the overlying button perfectly square and then align both as perfect as you can with the blade tang contact interface the stick would improve
I’ve never had stock on my mordax or any of my other protechs, accept when I bent the button trying to reassemble my Malibu when I didn’t know how. So chalk that up to user error, but being the great company protech is, they sent me out a new button for free and that totally fixed it
The Mordax is on my short list of wants. Great(goofy) video Kev!
You won’t regret it, unless u get the milled version which is super uncomfortable
Unrelated to this just wanted to let you know the Divo is absolutely money bro! I’m particular and man I have no critique’s at all especially as a lefty! Man it’s that good! No need for a response keep it up and I’ll buy everything you make!
Thanks bro!!
just flip it bro. I have 4 button locks all have come with minimal-severe button stick. The coating needs to wear a smooth path with where ever the stick contact is coming from. After minutes on some, to hours on others, the stick ALWAYS goes away. You have to just be patient and flip the darn thing. Don't disassemble it again; every time that happens the contact point of the stick is moved from the "smooth" path you were previously creating. Thus causing it to start all over again. Keep at it; it will go away💪
Yeah kev start flippin
I flip i flip
Great looking knife, but I'm not into button locks because of the inherent problems with them. Protech better recognize you after the infamous button lock dance I mean c'mon lol. Thanks for the great vid Kevin and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
Pretty cool! I wonder if a lite grease or graphite would help the button stick. Great video 👍
The stick happens where the button meets the blade. You probably already know this, but it will stick less with more and more use; I can actually rotate the button on my Malibu and find sections of the button that stick less because its worn in more on those areas. Maybe try putting some Flitz on your finger or a cloth and lightly polishing the button where it contacts the blade.
Im fine with it now. Broke in enough
I like the mordax but not enough to do everything needed to really like it. Hollow regrind, flipper chop, and hole mod. Maybe one day I'll get one.
Loosen both the stop pin screws and retighten them together and don’t over tighten them. Worked for my OG Mordax.
Worked for what?
His OG Mordax..
@@LeftyEDC got rid of some of that lock stick on mine. But maybe they just over cranked the shit out of the screws on mine 🤷♂️
You can also try a ptfe dry lube powder. Apply a small bit on the tang where it locks up with a small paint brush. Worked wonders on a few knives of mine. Bryan Winters recommended it.
It is very beautiful
I do like the bevel on the back of the blade.
I really like most of Ferrum Forge designs I've owned a few of the early customs & midtechs & ofcorse a couple of the production models .I still remember preordering the 1st inhouse midtech the Pretium that was a hell of a lot of knife for the price I believe it was $375 ..
My archbishop 3.0 is definitely my favorite knife in my collection, just killer ergonomics and fantastic action, plus addictive fidget factor…what more could a guy ask for??
I’m breaking in a new Mordax now and getting the same hard button stick but it’s easy to soften up by spinning the button slightly as you push it. Just keep changing the clocking of the button. Well that is if you still own it😮
Yea but if u do that u start the break in process over again every time
And i carried it today 🤣
Does the mordax have a crowned spine? Looks like it in the video. That would be a nice touch. I bought an ace sanoma a while back and it has one and I think more makers should do it. It could be just me but I love the way it looks.
Nah just cuz of the swedging
A T8IP is a torx that is between a T8 and a T9.
With too much stick on a buttonlock, I usually use a sharpy on the sticky parts. Sometimes combines with oil. Works wonders for me.
The lock stick on mine (#21) was so bad, it was nearly unusable. It was due to the strength of the spring. I used a weaker spring and she works perfectly now😊
Don't really care for the fidget toys but if I was to ever try one it would be a slider one like at the beginning of the video the mordax is cool I like that green button gives some color not just black
I'm guessing the original bearings are steel? Been wondering about this as I've seen a few people recommend swapping out for Skiff.
Yup steel caged steel bearings
@@LeftyEDC well, damn. I have one of the regular Magdaxes inbound and was considering leaving it alone because I just assumed a company like Protech would be using ceramic, but defo can't abide steel bearings in this day & age. Honestly surprised that a company like Protech is still using steel bearings when ceramic bearings are defo the way to go and really don't seem like they're all that expensive. Thanks for info!
From my experience oil causes the stick bro, if you blow it out with compressed air and it doesn't stick then there is your verification 🤷♂️ knives truly don't really need to be oiled and it does is attract lint and random things to stick to the surfaces you oiled... If I do use any I tend to use the tuff glide needle and after I oil it I blow it out then let it dry...
Meant to ask you long ago..U sold the original mailblu channel mascot knife did ya?
Yup. Nothing is safe
Where can I find one of these?
U have to catch them on a drop. Follow their Instagram
Your fidgeting is driving me crazy.
I wanted one of these but now I'm just annoyed with it... Protech claimed these were releasing like 6 or 8 months ago, every since all I have seen is people who bought one at a knife show... Either drop a batch at the dealers or eat a whole bag of Richards Protech...Tired of waiting for something that you have already produced should have the tooling set up and ready to go for and yet nothing, making little batches of 60 limited edition is some BS. I need coffee...
U can see in the video they made atleast 300
have you seen knife-related delays in the community? Come on, man, everything is delayed. I remember when Spyderco announced new models and a year later they dropped.
@@lovescamaros1 Nah I mean like they literally told me ,Yeah these are dropping in 3 weeks...🤣 To give that kinda number you gotta be pretty confident the knives are nearly done... One Eternity Later I finally see somebody review one out of a LE batch.. 🙈
There at blade hq right now!
@@edcevo3052 Website wont even open...
bladehq is garbage, has been for a long time.
Looks dead centered. Protechs QC is great.
Smoked way to much reefer if the past....
U or me?
Wow protech is expensive, could get a gun for that 💲
you tend to pay $$$ for limited runs of anything in life.
@@lovescamaros1 Pouring wisdoms 😃
What price did i say? Its like $200
@@LeftyEDC I didn't found exact model but saw some over 450$ 💔💔💔
@@NedimTabakovic you won't find a mordax for $450 unless you are hard up on ebay. I know some autos, and limited editions are $400 and up but that's pretty few and far between.
