  • Eyal Levi takes you on a guided tour of the raw multi-tracks for "Young Robot" by Dance Gavin Dance, originally produced, mixed and mastered by Kris Crummett from their album "Mothership."
    This is a very, very well done rock session with fantastic recordings of some extremely good performances that will be a joy to mix. A few of the highlights:
    - Beautiful drums with tons of big, natural room mics to work with, and of course a fantastic performance by Matthew Mingus
    - Lots and lots of rhythm guitars, lead guitars and clean guitars to layer on top of each other courtesy of Will Swan
    - Clean vocals from Tilian Pearson and screamed vocals from Jon Mess
    - Some very, very nice bass tracks provided as amped and DI and awesome playing from Tim Feerick
    - Even some flutes!
    Get instant access to Dance Gavin Dance multi-tracks and Kris Crummett's full mixing session ► nailthemix.com/dgd

  • @andyfanfilms
    @andyfanfilms 6 лет назад +4

    I know the point isn't just hearing the STEMs by themselves, but it would be a lot less jarring if you made commentary either before or after playing the tracks instead stopping the music every few seconds just to finish your thought process. It's frustrating listening to it when it's (music)(hard interruption to say a few words) (music) (hard interruption to finish last sentence)

    Kris crummet is a phenomenal producer and engineer. That’s being said. These are not raw. They are definitely edited for time and probably pitch as well. As well I’m sure they had some serious front end processing to get these sounds. Not fair to call it raw

    • @URMAcademy
      @URMAcademy  6 лет назад +2

      Yep, they’re edited just like most of our sessions are- this is Nail The Mix not Nail The Edit. If you want to work on editing we have some fantastic Fast Tracks on that though!
      As far as processing, they were tracked with some compression and probably EQ on the way in. Some sessions have more processing on the way in than others- either way, you are getting exactly what was recorded with no additional processing.
      If they’re recorded too well for you then so be it, but they are indeed raw in the sense that they’re what was mixed on the album.

    • @ilijahmora
      @ilijahmora 6 лет назад

      “Recorded too well for you”
      Wow, sarcasm from a public company.
      How does that make me want to look further into your product, is customer service the same?
      Look, I’m not downing on your product, simply the way it is packaged. The verbage used in the video makes it sound as if, this is just raw amazing performance, nothing else.
      Full sail does this same thing, as does Berkeley, and other schools and online edu, with Jay z, Beyoncé, etc..and they claim the same thing. My point was that producers and their engineering team, typically print all their processing whether before it hits hard disk or post arrangement, time, pitch, and FX processing, before they send to “mix”. For an educational product from any of those places or yours, it’s not a fair representation of what goes into a “final mix”. Most commercial mix engineers now a days are getting printed stems that sounds great. They apply basic level adjustments, ambience, etc.
      I wish you luck. I just wish that this came across more honestly and at minimum acknowledged what got them to the mix stage. As it was not just raw talent, instruments, and microphones.
      I look forward to further exploring your product. Multi track sessions are always fun either way.

    • @URMAcademy
      @URMAcademy  6 лет назад +7

      It’s not sarcasm, I probably just didn’t articulate it as well as I could have.
      Maybe this is more clear- we get it: some people enjoy digging into less polished tracks and carving out tones. That makes complete sense (it’s fun to dig in like that) but it’s just not how this session was done, or how the Meshuggah and Opeth sessions were done. Papa Roach by comparison has much less processing on the way in and you’ll do a lot more work as far as creating tones and effects.
      I think you are just not understanding that this is exactly how it was recorded. The mixer mixes what the engineer gives them, and in this case Kris was the engineer and mixer. He uses a lot of analog gear and commits to tones on the way in. That means you as the mixer will spend less time carving out tones and most of your energy will go into things like balance and potentially automation.
      If that’s not what you’re looking for then fair enough. But you are insinuating that there is something dishonest going on here which is simply not the case.
