One of the most underrated guitarists. May not be a shredder but hes written some of the greatest melodies and grooviest riffs. If y'all haven't listened to dance Gavin dance You're missing out on a type of music you didn't know was possible
Cameron Craft that seemed pretty shreddey to me. Just in a different way that isn’t done a lot.
It’s because he’s doing rhythm and lead at the same time so all the jumps between chords and lead lines both looks hard and is hard 😅

I would like to introduce you all to Will Swan of Dance Gavin Dance. This is just one song of 8 albums of straight magic and a discography that never gets old, latest being Artificial Selection. They have had 3 equally talented lead vocalists and have only improved with time. If this song appeals and you want to see them, they sound BETTER live than on recording. All the music is this complex, played effortlessly. This band has been at this for almost 20 years i think and still needs support, please go check out the new album Artificial Selection. Thanks!

Word. Saw them live for the first time in May and I was blown away.
@Ghetto Plant I felt that way up until Mothership. His style most certainly best suited the band and it took 3 albums for Tillian to fully come around as a singer. But if we are talking purely vocal chops that's going to Johnny Craige, but as a single unit the band works best with Tillian creatively.

Live is not the same as sitting down and doing a play-through. Also, I like the other members in the band so I try to watch them as well. I've been to 3 of there shows, one being their 10 year anniversary in Sacramento (lived there at the time.)

Such an amazing musician. Will writes a lot of DGD's music and always does such a good job. The rest of the band are extremely talented as well, they've quickly become one of my all time favorites over the past year.

Eidola is a criminally underrated treasure but it makes me happy how much Andrew has become such a big part of the band. I didn't know he wrote bloodsucker. I freaking love that song!

OP Guitar id say they have 3 eras. The Jonny Craig era, the Kurt Travis era, and now the Tillian Pearson era. All three of which kick ass.

All of DGD's songs have two guitar parts, some have three
absolutely wild style. reminds me of fall of troy
DGD, Fall of Troy, Alexisonfire, Saosin, and other progressive post hardcore bands take their technical guitar work directly from progressive screamo bands. To get an idea of where they get their inspiration, I'd recommend checking out bands like Off Minor, City of Caterpillar, Hot Cross, Kodan Armada, Gospel, Daniel Striped Tiger, Wow, Owls!!, I Create, Stop It!!!, Malady, Loma Prieta, and I Have Dreams.

He evolved at the drive in and glassjaw and drew influences from Prince and Earth Wind and Fire

Cap.Commander Shunsui yeah, have you heard that music? He was in a band called Farewell Unknown. It sounds mostly like Thursday, Glassjaw, Boysetsfire, etc. Then once he starts getting more into screamo his guitar style evolves. You're a fool if you think that both Will Swan and Thomas Erak weren't influenced by the progressive guitar work of the east coast screamo scene when they have both cited it as an obvious direct influence. The bands that spawned from Saetia invented that style. Seriously, just listen to Off Minor (formed 1999, first release 2000) snd Hot Cross (formed 2000, first release 2001). And denying the TFOT and AOF influence is asinine; not only is it quite evident if you listen, but Will has claimed them as influences multiple times, even in the recent past.
kakashi66132 I listened to those bands when you cited them, only one had any sort of style that I would call close to what Will writes. Also, DGD songs are built around Will, his first band’s songs were not, so that is not remotely relevant.

The man created his own style, just, absolutely it's own thing and wow it blows a lot of "technical" guitar out of the water, style and feel wise. This one of my fav DGD tunes too, thank you for doing this!

@@dilbophagginz It actually is math rock, and it's prog metal as well. They claim themselves to be an experimental metal band. Their hybrid of these two genres is what got them so far.
Sometimes we're so mesmerized by Tillian and Jon's vocals that we forget the insane sorcery engineering that is Swan's guitar skills

Been listening to these guys since '08. Theyve gone through 3 singers a couple bassists and at one point Will Swan did the screamo vocals when John Mess left the band. That album is Happiness if you wanna check it out. DGD helped me branch out and listen to new music when all I jammed was rap at the time. They're a truly legendary band but unfortunately they are underrated. I love DGD. Will Swan is a beast
learning and understanding their rhythm and lead parts for the last 5 albums would be a college education in guitar unto itself

My wife has been absolutely obsessed with this band for a couple years now. She would constantly play it in the car and while I appreciated the talent the musicians had and was familiar with some songs and would sing along with some parts I was by no means into them and would softly poke fun at her for liking such obscure and inaccessible music (but so do I) I think I was reluctant to dive in because she was trying so hard to immerse and indoctrinate me and I was being stubborn. Now that I'm actually give them a solid chance and hearing all of the intricacies of the instruments and now seeing this play through I think I'm finally becoming a fan.

And I love the song Chucky vs the giant tortoise, I listen to it every day and repeatedly. I was laughing at the song Flossie Dicky Bounce and my mom was confused bc there was a CD in my brothers new car and I listened to it, I said to myself,” If I meet the person who left this CD here, I’ll be grate friends with him/her” I’m happy that the person left the CD there or I wouldn’t have been introduced to this band. 1:36 this riff is confirmed to be lifted from the first song off of their very first 2006 demo ep. The song was later renamed Attack of the Dashing Young & Bold. This is confirmed by Will himself.
