As always a top-notch tutorial, you definitely have the "go-to" Redshift tutorial source on RUclips.. as others have mentioned, nobody is really covering it well here so it's so great that you are doing them.. especially coming from a renderer like Renderman (like myself) it's great to see these since the shader workflow in Redshift is quite a bit different..
Thanks yeah, there's a lack of tutorials out there so I thought I'd throw a few up just to give a visual companion to their docs (which I think are actually really good). I also was using Renderman primarily before Redshift but am not balancing the two for different things so it's good to hear that my tutorials are easy to follow for someone else like myself, cheers!
Yup, but its okay now. I already figured it out. Because I thought Redshift has its own batch render button. I used Maya's batch render command. Thanks for the concern Small Robot Studio!
Ah yeah it's the same as the Maya method, thought you might be a Renderman user which is why I asked as it's a little different with that renderer. Thanks for watching :)
Great tutorial. I read somewhere (can't remember where, and if still applies) that SSS shader of Redshift has some limitation in IPR mode vs Bucket/render. Is it true?
If it is I'm certainly not aware of a difference when comparing the two - Redshift has changed a lot since hitting 2.0 I believe so it could have been from a previous release possibly? If you find out where you read it and what the limitation is I'd be interested to find out!
Just had another look, yeah it's definitely the case with the SSS shader but the Skin shader I'm getting inconsistent results with will have to test further. Both always function correctly with final render though so as it is the tutorial should still be accurate you'll just have to final render to get the best results which isn't too bad considering how fast render times are.
Yes, sorry, I meant the SSS not skin shader. I think C. Desse mention this somewhere in a tutorial, but it was for an older version, so I wasn't sure if it was still relevant.
Will you be doing more Redshift tutorials? I picked up Redshift the other day but it seems as if there is barely anyone doing any tutorials at all. Hope you continue doing more tutorials for Redshift! Would love to see it covered as much as possible.
That would be awesome! All your Renderman videos and How To were extremely helpful. Would love to see something similar for Redshift to cover different scenario/lighting/materials/x-gen/render settings. Thanks for all the help!
Thanks for watching and if you're a Renderman user I'll be doing a version of this tutorial for that too it's just SSS is quicker to render with Redshift so I was able to put this tutorial together a bit quicker! Any questions or comments feel free to leave them below!
Small Robot Studio How are you finding Redshift when compared to Renderman? It looks amazing but since it doesn't have a free NC version like Renderman, I can't really justify making the switch to the $500 redshift.
Yeah no non-commercial so if you don't have the funds or aren't using it commercially that's definitely a barrier. For all my personal and business work I pretty much exclusively use Redshift now due to it's speed, turning around work without fearing down time on renders is really important and just to be able to iterate rapidly makes a big difference. I'll have some examples of my work coming out soon so if you want to see it in action look out for that.

Any chance to have a skin shading tut with renderman 21?
Great tutorials! Sir I would to ask how to make a batch render? (for animation). Thank you!
With Redshift?

im currently trying the free version (with watermarks) and it sss wont work in IPR mode

Yup I sure will be, maybe I'll do a quick intro video for it to help people get started!

Always great to hear I've been helpful! I'll get to work :)
Amazing! Thanks!

can you make a tutorial about how to render a wood with renderman
I can, any specific type of wood? Wood floor, cross cut wood etc?
wood floor
I'll add it to the list
ahhh this is great
Cheers!
