This is how I was first taught in a production setting. I've met a lot of carpenters since then who don't do it this way... 🤯. I was thinking about making this video myself, but I'm glad you did. 😂
Very impressive. I was skeptical at first but this guy made it look easy and that door isn't moving. I wonder if this is doable with a door frame that is completely out of square or what the work around would be there. Sometimes carpenters are at the mercy of the trades that came before them, especially if they didn't do the framing. Guy is legit though and I hope he makes bank because you aren't finding someone else who can do it like that.
Love to see someone with such positive, strong spirit in the work that they do. You find that when people work for themselves. You earned a subscriber & a like.
Just found you! Instant fan, exactly the way I've installed doors for years. Quantity and quality at the same time, can't go wrong. Looking forward to watching your other videos!
Josh I really appreciate it! Sounds like you know how to bust out some work as well in the carpentry world! Thank you for your support and look forward to more comments from you in the future! Have a blessed day 😎
Good job..finally a pro video from a crazy animal installer Lol.. I have 40 yrs experience hanging doors and everything else, I only use that technique on metal framws where I can just use trim screws into the metal jamb thru casing to hang the unit..I just like to hang doors as most people do n go back n trim after.. close to 30 yrs ago pollacks who were trimming in a development I worked at hung units the same way but with no shims..it works...I don't give too many compliments on carpentry videos on RUclips, I'm usually roasting the video poster or commenters for faking their supposed knowledge, but u bud, get a thumbs up. Lol 👍👍
Great work bro, though I’m not a skilled guy but believe me in the way you explained and fixed under 5 minutes it’s a bestest time I have ever heard that a door can be fixed. God bless u bro 😎
we got our door with the trim on one side never used glue Shimmed hinges, striker and the bottom of the knob side used way less nails This was government housing, apartments, wedge base Floors were vct and cutback Loved seeing it again! Good and Fast!
Incredible! Very thorough and blazing fast! This is exactly how I do them in AZ too, except no shims on hollow core doors. Once the doors are caulked they hold permanent in that position. That being said, its a better job with shims so good on u for that
So you cut the casing before, and measured the door jams had enough height and width before also? Each door is different in old houses… that may work for new houses/ builds but I don’t think 5 mins for old renovated house. My one door way was 3/4 difference from left to right, the door gap was exactly same as the door jam so had to cut off door jam and 1/2” off the door and refill the plug in the bottom .. that was just the third door I ever fitted.. Fitting in doorways like you have there must be a dream .. but one thing with old houses you learn lots of new tricks! Did love idea of fitting casing first .. but in these doorways it would be disaster… one day maybe one day 😊 Great technique for new builds, even though I can’t see me ever working on new builds 😊 Now I’ve started spray painting the doors and the door jams before I fit them and I just have to pop the handles on when they are fitted and they are good to go. Four more to go and I’ll probably never fit a door again 😂
I believe it I’ve witnessed this when I was working in Montreal installing kitchens there was a this contractor installing but not as fast as you it took him 15 minutes
That’s insane but on the other hand I remember when I was a kitchen installer and I was watching this door installer he did the same technique I don’t remember how long it took him but he was crazy fast 💨 thanks for sharing now I’ll go find myself a doors and windows company and look for a job
Impressive! But… I’d like to see that done with a solid core door hung in an engineered wood frame. Then come back a year later to see how it hangs and closes. That had to be a hollow core door. That’s like hanging a painting in comparison.
can you show one where you replace/install an interior ( maybe solid core) door on an uneven finished floor from the very start with no trim or shims pre-cut and no prep work done...Ie checking the floor for level, jamb bottoms cut etc? ... maybe the jamb sits tight on a slab where the carpet is cut out around the previous jamb and the trim need to sit on top of the carpet. I think you'd do a fine job but it would be a more realistic portrayal of what a guy comes up against on a side job where they only have one door to replace/install amongst their other possibly unrelated tasks on that site... the time to do all the prep work steps adds up. I have a bad habit of over complicating things which takes longer but I make the finish product look good and probably more solid than it needs to be so I think I could learn from your quickness which I really like.
Where can you buy casing pre cut lol? Gotta add that time in, but fast. 7-8 mins for a good carpenter is about average. If you are taking much longer just gotta practice more that’s all.
You can actually buy pre-cut Anderson casing at Home Depot or Lowe’s but for a ridiculous price! Ok ok cutting the casing should have been added into the time...lol thanks for your time! Have a blessed day!
Damn....I just bought a 60" hollow French interior set to avoid cheap bifold doors. Clicked on this video to learn how to install it lol! It's like watching the damn Olympics trying to learn how to swim!
Thanks for making me laugh! I’m literally watching the Olympics right now...lol my French door video goes over detailed steps that will totally help you with your install! If you have some questions please let me know! Have a blessed day 😎
That was good, I take 6-7 minutes complete with casing. I don't use shims I just make sure my nails hit the stud when nailing my casing to the wall to keep the jamb from twisting, I haven't had any issues. Also, I like shooting nails close to the door stop when securing the jamb so when the painter caulks he covers the nail holes at the same time. What I do works out great, did my home and I haven't had any problems, keep up the good hard work. Your video was awesome, although I've done this awhile I always like seeing how other carpenters install, never know I might learn something new and I always do. I like the glue, I'm gonna start doing that.
I really appreciate your comment and will definitely position my nail holes closer to edge of the doorstop, great tip! Thank you for watching and look forward to more tips from you in the future! Have a blessed day 😎
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching! After 10 years of carpentry and thousands of door installs, I have it down pretty good. If you had that experience you wouldn’t jack any door up!
I’m using 18 ga 1 1/4” nails for nailing the casing to the door jamb and 16 ga 2” for the door jamb to the stud. Thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎
I have a full list of tools used in the description of each video. Metabo nailers 16 gauge and 18 gauge bought at Lowes. I use 16 ga 2 inch nails to nail material to the framing of the house and use 18 ga 1 1/4 inch nails when nailing material together like door casing to the door jamb. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎
Give it a try and ask me questions if you need help! Yes keep good care of the body! Sorry to hear you had knee surgery, hope you recover fast! Have a blessed day!
That Would work with light hollow core doors. You're not gonna do that with a solid Fur door or naughty older? Or try setting a fire door like that. I'd like to see that.
You nailed it. I like how you used the face trim to structurally square, set, and support the door frame, without running the shims from both sides. Great cadence with the real time 'play by play' .
Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment! Many professional carpenters don’t agree with this style of hanging doors, but like you said, setting and squaring the door jamb before adding shims actually helps me out to be faster with still maintaining good quality and finish. Appreciate the support and have a blessed day 😎
Both guns are Metabo air finish nailers. One of them are 16ga( I’m using 2” nails) and the other is 18ga( I’m using 1 1/4” nails. I have Amazon links in the description if you are interested or you can find these tools at Lowes. Thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎
Sorry I can’t go back and show you, lol! But I assure you the reveal from casing to the door is always 3/16” roughly (muscle memory) but the reveal from drywall to casing isn’t going to be perfect…mainly because I level the hinge side door jamb for every door I hang…framing and drywall wont be installed with a 6ft. Stabila level, so my door jamb wont always match the wall…Thanks for watching! Have a blessed day 😎
Unfortunately I don’t install a lot of flooring. Maybe sometime in 2022 (im trying to find property for a new build residential home) we can buy a property and get footage of all the different trades working on the home. I already have my spec home prints which will include hardwood in the basement. I have a walkthrough video of a custom ranch new build from a year ago with hardwood throughout…that’s going to be my spec home for the future since my buddy designed the home.
Im holding a 6ft stabila level in the thumbnail…used the level against the hinges of the door during the install…thanks for not watching and have a blessed day
Nice to see someone who finally learned how to hang a door. I don't use shims. Instead, I feel the gap in the same places with construction adhesive. I have remodeled many, many old homes and 100 years ago nobody bothered with shims. And the doors are still there and worked fine. Doors were hung by the casing all the time.
Yes totally! I’m using two different finish nailers specifically for the size of the nails. One is a 16 gauge nail and the other is 18 gauge. The 18ga is used for for smaller pieces of trim or when your shooting thru a smaller thickness of material, the 18ga also leaves smaller holes for the painter. Each gun has different options of nail length as well. Each carpenter will vary with what gun and length nail they use on a project, just comes down to personal choice… hope this helps! Thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎
How much do carpenters usually charge to install prehung interior door? Or maybe we can email? I’m bidding on a 150 unit apartment building to install doors there and honestly have no clue what to charge. Because usually we were including door installation with our trim estimates.
I ready for the challenge, let do it. Jajajaja No, I not ready thank you for sharing great tips I take one 1 to do a door. Now question how much you charge for door installation?
Kind of confused on the question…mind elaborating a little for me?! I also have another video that fully walks through this “5 min” install in detail…that might help answer your question 🤔 let me know! Have a blessed day 😎
Cool vid and entertaining. I'm assuming that was a hollow core door🤔 If so wondering why the need for shims at all. But if solid I get using shims on hinges.
It was a hollow core door. I use shims on every door I install, partly due to Colorado’s weather fluctuations. Also most track homes “require shimming doors” in the signed contract (they never check) so I just shim every door regardless... Appreciate your time watching and leaving a comment! Have a blessed day 😎
To nail the casing to the door jamb I’m using 1 1/4” 18 gauge straight finish nails. The rest of the door gets 2” 16 gauge straight finish nails…hope that helps! Thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎
Thank you Zach. Yes hollow core door, but I do the same with solid as well just a couple extra nails through the casing for support...I do leave the jamb legs “as is” when shimming that gap. I want the shim to be tight so the finish nail doesn’t flex the jamb in when shooting. But don’t make it to tight and flex the jamb out, you might make it harder to close the door(bind the hinge). The only exception is when the door is on finished flooring and the jamb leg isn’t parallel or perpendicular to a seam in the floor. I try to square of the jamb the best I can, but don’t over flex the hinge side with the shim or the binding issue comes into play. Hope I answered your question...let me know if you have any more!
It looks like you are using an 18g and a 16g nailer. Do you ever encounter situations where a 15g nailer would be better than a 16g? Or vice versa? I have an 18g and am trying to decide on 15 vs 16
I don't mean to brag but it took me 4 hours to install a door last night...
Lol! Are you happy with your work? That’s all that matters at the end of the day!
If it looks good you won’t regret speeding that time. 👍🏼
I’m at 2 days and halfway done 😂
I did better than you. It took me and my husband 6 hours today to hang a door. With out moldings.
Lol noob, I installed mine in 2 hours. It rubs, doesn’t stay where I leave it, and looks like shit too. Top that!
Love your precision you were moving fast and smooth
That’s impressive. Great techniques for production houses.
I’m a little more methodical but I do like your method.
Like the Bob Ross of Millwork!! Awesome job!

Thanks brotha! Possibly new record for RUclips videos 😉
Great work bro, though I’m not a skilled guy but believe me in the way you explained and fixed under 5 minutes it’s a bestest time I have ever heard that a door can be fixed. God bless u bro 😎
I must be at the advanced level from this guy because my doors open themselves! 😅
You are almost there to being the perfect door installer! Now just get that same door to close on its own as well! 😂
Amazing techniques and masterful install work
we got our door with the trim on one side
never used glue
Shimmed hinges, striker and the bottom of the knob side
used way less nails
This was government housing, apartments, wedge base
Floors were vct and cutback
Loved seeing it again!
Good and Fast!
I’m definitely a handy guy and can do most jobs on residential homes EXCEPT for hanging doors lol well done sir

That was pretty sick. Good work

Good video man you should make a video on how to install an exterior door whenever you get the chance
This video is so nice.
Just...Great.!!.....Master!........Oustanding.......Love your energy !
Well done.
You the man Hunter.

You gotta try the OMER 18 gauge nailer they are much better and faster than metabo especially for angle shoot...great video thank
good energy
Are you able to precut your casing all beforehand then? How often do you have to trim some off to keep consistent reveals?
Where can you buy casing pre cut lol? Gotta add that time in, but fast. 7-8 mins for a good carpenter is about average. If you are taking much longer just gotta practice more that’s all.

I just started my home improvement business I've been doing this for 20+years I never seen a door go up that fast that was sweet
badass. good job.

Thank you for the comment! Have a great holiday!
If a video makes me actually clap in my living room.... Subscribed.
That was awesome!! I would have that door all jacked up.
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching! After 10 years of carpentry and thousands of door installs, I have it down pretty good. If you had that experience you wouldn’t jack any door up!
Way impressive... Good Job..
Wonderful well done Hunter...
you can do this with the lightweight doors only. if you have a heavy solid doors , those nails won't hold for too long, you will need screws.
Good jod my friend.!!
Had to sub great video. Winnipeg Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦
Wish we had pre hung doors for fit outs in Australia lol
nice work thanks
Very impressive
Good time, and thank to the framers to nice rough opening
I was a sceptic. Wow, I like it . For new construction, you HAVE built a better mouse trap.
Nice work.
I have metal frames at work, I have to buy undrilled doors and usually plane the hinge side to fit proper.
I have it pretty easy with these doors. You definitely put in more time and skill to make your slabs fit! Thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎
Crazy bro, this is better than watching fake DIY shows.
Really really appreciate it! If you have any questions let me know and I hope you have a blessed day!
Man who did that cap and apron looks nice
Awesome!
Amazing process. Great technique.
Thank you for watching! Appreciate the feedback!
that is pretty fast ,but I am just wondering only use nail gun is reliable?Coz normally we also use some long screws to fix, thank you in advance
Good job bro
Appreciate it! Have a blessed day 😎
What size nails are you using in your nail gun to instal trim to door jamb?
I’m using 18 ga 1 1/4” nails for nailing the casing to the door jamb and 16 ga 2” for the door jamb to the stud. Thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎
what air guns are you using (pin nail, etc and what gauge for what job?)
I'm trying this as soon as I get back to work. Recovering from knee surgery take care of your body people
Give it a try and ask me questions if you need help! Yes keep good care of the body! Sorry to hear you had knee surgery, hope you recover fast! Have a blessed day!
That
Would work with light hollow core doors. You're not gonna do that with a solid Fur door or naughty older? Or try setting a fire door like that. I'd like to see that.
Great job bro!!
nice work.
Awesome job. Next video solid door?
You nailed it. I like how you used the face trim to structurally square, set, and support the door frame, without running the shims from both sides.
Great cadence with the real time 'play by play' .
Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment! Many professional carpenters don’t agree with this style of hanging doors, but like you said, setting and squaring the door jamb before adding shims actually helps me out to be faster with still maintaining good quality and finish. Great job! What are the two Guns you are using? Asking for a friend....lol
Both guns are Metabo air finish nailers. One of them are 16ga( I’m using 2” nails) and the other is 18ga( I’m using 1 1/4” nails. I have Amazon links in the description if you are interested or you can find these tools at Lowes. Thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎
You are cool!
Wow! What do you charge per door!!! That was faassssst! 👏🏽🔥
How long have you been a production finish carpenter?
It’s been about 14 years of being in the industry! Thanks for asking and have a blessed day 😎
Good job what size nails 4 the door frame & the size nails 4 the trimming
I use 2 inch 16 gauge nails for the door frame and nailing the casing to wall. Also use 1 1/4 inch 18 gauge for nailing the casing to the door.
That’s cool you can slam out doors like that but it be nice if you could slow down and explain how you do it that way and why
I have another video fully explaining my install of a door. Maybe that will give you more information 😎
Lol. I want to see the reveals around the hinge side of the door!
yeah, you either get it level, or you get a nice reveal. Rarely both happen
Have a blessed day 😎
Couldn’t of said it better myself…thanks for your insight and leaving feedback on the channel! Have a blessed day 😎
Nice very nice super easy with ease. Lol
Thank you very much! Any questions please let me know! Have a blessed day 😎
What size pneumatic nails were you using? I noticed you had two different guns.
Nice
I would love to see a video on installing wooden floors on a concrete slab!
Unfortunately I don’t install a lot of flooring. Maybe sometime in 2022 (im trying to find property for a new build residential home) we can buy a property and get footage of all the different trades working on the home. I already have my spec home prints which will include hardwood in the basement. you are so funny. I love it..
That was Outstanding 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 and I’m pleased to see that no corners were cut. Glue on the mitres and so on. Great job.
Thank you very much! I appreciate your time watching and leaving a quick comment! Always gotta glue those mitres 😎 have a blessed day
I guess the wall is plumb, square and no bulging drywall in order to install without using the level
Im holding a 6ft stabila level in the thumbnail…used the level against the hinges of the door during the install…thanks for not watching and have a blessed day
Holly shit bro, that was fast as f*#&$&!!!
Thanks I really appreciate it! Let me know if I can help in any way!

Thank you for watching and the comment! Enjoy the holidays!
I ready for the challenge, let do it. Jajajaja No, I not ready thank you for sharing great tips I take one 1 to do a door. Now question how much you charge for door installation?
I would love to try it out on my broken door. Do they sell the casings that is already cut in home depot or lowes?
How come they don't get you slip jamb doors with casing on them
How do you get the reveal to mostly be straight from the beginning?
Kind of confused on the question…mind elaborating a little for me?! I also have another video that fully walks through this “5 min” install in detail…that might help answer your question 🤔 let me know! Have a blessed day 😎
Cool vid and entertaining. I'm assuming that was a hollow core door🤔 If so wondering why the need for shims at all. But if solid I get using shims on hinges.

While insanely fast- I would prefer a little more focus on precision. But I guess if you want a mass produced house, go for it.
What size nails are you using?
To nail the casing to the door jamb I’m using 1 1/4” 18 gauge straight finish nails. The rest of the door gets 2” 16 gauge straight finish nails…hope that helps! Thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎
@@huntercarlson5446 thanks
Hollow core? How do you shim the reveals between the shut door and jamb legs or do you just leave them as is? Very nice job though
@@huntercarlson5446 thanks for the tips !
Very welcome!
this kind of door, would be over with one heavy kick
The jamb and casing would still be good but yes with a hollow core door you could easily just kick through it!
It looks like you are using an 18g and a 16g nailer. Do you ever encounter situations where a 15g nailer would be better than a 16g? Or vice versa? I have an 18g and am trying to decide on 15 vs 16
Go 15g
