This video is really good. I'm remodeling a rental property and replaced 3 bedroom doors. The painter said he could hang the doors but after 3 attempts (and many nail holes/frame damage) I had the young man watch the video with me and we hung the door together. We both learned how to do it and door looks great. I taught him how to educate himself when he doesn't know what the hell he is doing 😂 and you taught him to hang doors. Thanks!
Great job, Hunter Carlson! If I had only watched your video 8 door installations ago. The good thing is that I still have six more installations to go and I will definitely use your method!
I really enjoyed this video. I am a retired trim carpenter from Texas. I think that you did a really nice job. I just have 1 comment that you might find useful. When you're hanging the pre-hung unit. After you've gone through setting the hinge side and the header, before nailing off the strike side. Take a 1-3/4 paddle bit slide the shaft between the hinges and gently close the door " not all the way but just enough to slightly bend the hing." Do this to each hing this will help to establish the margin on the hing side of the door. You might also use your pencil for this as well. Thank you
Great video. I had three solid core doors to install on a remodel this weekend. Since it was ten years since I last installed an interior door, I hit RUclips for a refresher. Came across your video....wonderful. I was taught to hang the door while shimming to level in both directions. I was taught sooooooo wrong, and hanging doors was intimidating. This weekend, they went up so easy and smooth with minimal issues. Thank you. Dave
Like the Estwing I’ve had a 16 oz for 30 years of finish work. Thanks for the video learned a lot of new methods. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us
This is a great video, especially if you watch the 5 minute version first. Allot of new guys watch an old pro do something and have no idea how much focus and concentration is involved. The two videos together are great training material for beginners.
Good joiner work From a fellow joiner in the uk 👍🏻 What I usually do though is I make the architrave up as complete sets using mitre bond then pin them on
Best door installation video on RUclips. I install for a tract builder in South Carolina and this is pretty close to how I see it done around here. Next video make one on installing an open rail
Thank you very much for your compliment! I’ll do my best to get more footage out there and especially one of an open rail! Appreciate your time! Have a blessed day 😎
I watch a ton of DYI videos and this is the 1st one I have been compelled to comment on. Very well explained and helpful in your explanation. Well Done Hunter!
I wanna try this method next time on an interior install. Still were able to address all the issues I thought were gonna be a problem. And plumbing off the hinges makes sense because factory hinges may be set slightly off and that’s what the door hangs from. I’ve never tried this method before, but it looks fun and fast so I’m definitely going to give it a go at some point.
This is by far the best video on installing doors. I just hung 3 doors, first one took about 20 minutes and the others were less than 10. I am not a finish carpenter, I don’t even work in construction but I do a lot of DIY stuff so I’m pretty handy. Thank you for this video, made this process so much easier for me 👍👌🙏🤙 Mahalo!!
so, you installed 3 doors in 37 minutes? so, on an 8 hour shift you could complete 3 houses? Really impressive! And, you're an amateur? So I, a professional, should be able to do 3x what a hobby fella can do so, 9 houses per day?
@@markhenry6486 well you gotta keep in mind I had all the trim cut out and painted and prepped the jambs to make sure the drywall was good and all that stuff. I had 3 doors in a master suite that were all the same size. So yes, 3 doors in about 40 minutes. This video is the shit!
Excellent video! Thank you for sharing your talent, you are right to to the point. Wondering if you would create a new video on how to prepare an existing wall (cutting the dry wall and framing it) to hang a new door!
I have another video on the channel where I install a door in under 5 minutes, more of a demonstration then actual teaching…thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎
You can’t teach someone how to do something in a five-minute video. He made a step-by-step how-to, and you are focused on how long it took to explain instead of focusing on what you learned.
Thank you so much! My partner who usually films and helps me on the project had shoulder surgery a few months ago so I have definitely slowed down on my company’s productivity and on making videos! I know it’s not a very good excuse…I’ll do my best to get more footage and more videos coming! Appreciate you Randell!
Good informative video. I may try this technique. I do production trim and have met guys who pre cased the door and installed it this way.. after watching this video I might try it out now and see how it goes
I appreciate your comment! Let me know how it goes if you do end up trying this method! Let me know if you have any questions as well…thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎
I'm amazed. I am trying to improve my efficiency. It's definitely a struggle. Currently the project I'm on have KD doors it's such a pain. Takes so much longer. Thanks for the inspiration
Keep the motivation going! This is the easiest door to install because it is light weight, it has a good quality build with the door stop nailed in the right position and I’m working with the easiest style casing…doors from other manufacturers can sometimes take much longer to get installed properly! Some can take me up to an hour to install…hope your pricing is set accordingly! Thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎
at first I was thinking "why the heck is this guy putting the trim on first?".... and then I watched how quickly you leveled out the door and I immediately understood. brilliant. subbed just for that
Thank you for watching and looking through the channel! I appreciate your time and hope I was able to teach you something! Any other questions please let me know! Have a blessed day 😎
Ive door installed from muti family units to high end for 10 years . U definitely explained it very detailed , next time you should make a video where you create a jamb extension on a door or window think ppl will really like that

Super good video, but I was wondering if you would be able to make a short video showing us how to adjust the reveals once a door is hung because sometimes the door I hang isn’t completely flush with the door stop and don’t know how to adjust it

We also change door gaps depending on season they are installed. Humidity levels from summer to winter temp changes we have swings of plus 30 to minus 30 can swell doors a 1/8 inch we have encountered and their painted on all 6 sides

Great Video and demonstration. When installing your shims behind the frame. Do you install the shims directly behind the door hinges or above or below the hinges?
Install them right above or below the hinge. This helps to not bind at the hinge and also allows you to adjust the door reveal by sucking a screw through the hinge in the future if needed. Technically below the bottom hinge and above the top hinge…thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎
if your doing additional mill work for the header to build it up (craftsman style) , what would you have to change to install it ? I will need to be installing 6 shortly.
The only thing that would change would be leaving your header detail to the last step after the door is installed. I would simply nail my casing legs to the jamb(make sure to leave the proper header reveal at the top) and hang the door the same way. After the door is shimmed and nailed off then work on the header detail. You may need to flex the door jamb at the top up or down to get your proper spacing and reveals to work…hope this helps, thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎

if your doing additional mill work for the header to build it up (craftsman style) , what would you have to change to install it ? I will need to be installing 6 shortly.
The only thing that would change would be leaving your header detail to the last step after the door is installed. I would simply nail my casing legs to the jamb(make sure to leave the proper header reveal at the top) and hang the door the same way. After the door is shimmed and nailed off then work on the header detail. You may need to flex the door jamb at the top up or down to get your proper spacing and reveals to work…hope this helps, thanks for watching and have a blessed day 😎
