How to replace a door frame 👍
Fitted wardrobe builds and alcove units. Maybe for the spring outdoor timber structures like pergolas.
Replace front outdoor lock, suggestion with smart lock if any
Everything you know would be a start. Your videos are brilliant and great detail and very easy to understand.
Could you do a video on how to make understairs drawers?
This is a fantastic educational video. I’m about to hang 9 doors… I’ll report back in a bit (if I survive).
👌
Here’s little tip for fitting a door into an existing frame that I picked up off a family member. If you are using the existing hinge / latch screw holes in the frame and they feel a bit loose, grab yourself some bbq skewers or cocktail picks and dip them in some wood glue and knock them into the holes and trim flush. Works well for me in most situations 👍🏻
Good little tip!
Matchsticks too! Not the flamey bit (technical term 😂) though
@@simonbaker3612 The technical term for the bit you want to use is the "woody sticky bit"
Yep, I use match sticks
😊😊
Just want to say, between you, Robin Clevett and Peter Millard, I've basically got every area of home improvement covered. You're up there with the best of them. Keep it up.
Brilliant, thanks a lot 😊
fantastic explanation... I come from another country but I bought a house in UK(beautiful country), after your video I changed the first door in the house myself... it was almost perfect...thank you
Glad it helped!
Wish I'd seen them WIND BAGS 15 years ago..chisel ,screwdrivers ,packers all over the show.
Your videos and walk through step by step guides are top notch. A real help for a DIY novice like myself
The air bags are such a solid tip, makes solo-ing a job like this a lot easier
👍
Thanks for this great video. I've hung a few doors in my 52 years and there was a few things i didn't know. Good job and love your videos.
It's Absloutley amazing tutorial 👏... Thank you so much.
Excellent video, very helpful. Thanks.
That teal wall paint looks great
This is very helpful. Thank you!
Perfect, thank you.
Thank you was amazing to see how easy it was to take off the stops. I want to turn the door so it opens the other way but was deterred from taking the stops off - but now I will. thank you.
Thanks for this Cameron. Out of all of videos that you’ve put out I probably found this one the most useful. I’ll definitely be referring back to it in the future. Thank you!
Brilliant, glad it’s helpful 👍
Excellent video and just at the right time as I'm going to be fitting 11 doors in a few weeks with rose style handles so this video was the perfect one for me. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
Excellent video, thank you
Great videos mate just used this tutorial to hang 3 doors never done before but you made it look easy, thankyou
Brilliant just brilliant i love watching you videos they are soo helpful keep them coming
Thanks, will do!
Great video, thanks 👍🏻
Glad you liked it! Cheers
Thank you for your detailed tutorial!
You're very welcome!
Another great video. I think on those door handles with the slit in the square bar, the slit goes vertical so that the grub screw drives into it, spreading the bar and making it grip the inside of handle. I think!
Greatings from the USA. Im chopping hinges today.
Hello and good luck
Your work very fine sir thanks
Very well explained I’ve fit a lot of doors in my time and everything you have shown is spot and should be very helpful
Glad you liked it! Thanks
Hung a door today following your video ,brilliant worked a treat.👍👍👍👍
Great job!
Love your videos need to hang a door soon, never knew about the hinges being different on each side thanks
Happy to help!
Always interesting to see how people do it so differently to how I was taught to hang a door. I would start by putting a leading edge on the door and only plane down the latch side.
The air bags are a game changer too, one of the best tools a second fix carpenter can have.
Awesome job thanks 👌👏👏👏
No problem 👍
The most acute and easy to follow tutorial on RUclips. Thank you so much
You are welcome!
Thank you and keep up the great work.
Thanks, will do!
Buzzing pal, gonna try my own with your tips. Thanks a million.
No problem 👍
Watched your first clip and after that been watching your videos ever since. Great content here and chunk of knowledge and experience
I look forward for plenty DIY videos 😊
Awesome, thank you!
thanks for the film, it is very helpful, best regards
Glad it was helpful!
Another great video sir Thank you!
You are very welcome
Great Video and nicely explained. thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video.. I've hung loads of doors but this is a great primer/fresher well done
Thanks 👍
Amazing ,thank you
Thank you too!
That's really useful, thank you :)
Glad it was helpful!
Amazing timing! Was out last night surveying a client's rental that they want to refurb. Replacing doors all round was one aspect. Never done it till now (am part time in this gig at best). Confident that I could get it done now. Thanks! 😎
That’s great, glad to be of help 👍
Excellent tutorial, seen all your videos and this is one of the best youve done. One of the best diy channels on you tube.
Thanks so much 😊
very useful video! thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome stuff... 10 naff 60s doors to replace at my place and feel ready to take it on now
💪 you got it
This is a great tutorial, exactly why I follow 😎
Glad you liked it! Thanks
Superb Video. Like all your videos the procedure is shown step by step. You make it look easy (although I know from experience it isn't). Thanks again for making these videos
Thanks a lot! I try my best to make it nice and simple and inspire others to try and do things they normally might not.
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
Brilliant tutorial!
Glad you liked it!
@@TheDIYGuy1yeah, as you've n doubt seen, tube vast majority of tutorials are on new frames. My house was 'renovated' by a cowboy before we bought it. He put in new doors but they are more of a hexagon shape 😬🙄 and the frames have been hacked away all over the shop 😮😊
Very good video very well explained makes my life a lot easier 👍👍👍👍
Glad it helped
Thanks for this upload really helpful, I had to take quite a lot off the height and I used a mini circular saw which really struggled cutting through the hollow door, so I've ordered a full size circular saw, seems when it comes to power tools you don't want tools that only just manage to cut deep enough, it's best to have plenty of redundant depth and power.
Glad it helped! Enjoy new tool day 😊👍
Very informative, could you please share a video of installation of a large door like 1200mm and what hinges do you recommend
Great video. Just wish I had a door to replace now 😉
Do it just for the practice 😂👍
Good tutorial mate
Glad you liked it
I hate doors (hanging them, I mean) so this was a great load of help Cameron. Loved the detail and the little funky tools. Nice one as usual. As for other chippy stuff, building frames for work tops would be nice, maybe with drawers to maximise the cupboard space, I never know what is the best way....Just a thought....Yet again, top vid young sir.....Paul..
Thanks Paul for the feedback and suggestions 👍
@@TheDIYGuy1 I genuinely love these videos, it gives an old 'wannabe' a fresh enthusiasm about DIY. I'm sure I'm not the only follower that feels that. Deserved Cameron, deserved..
👍👍
The painting finish on your frames are top quality. Any suggestions how you did it? Cheers
Nice quick cut away from those ruff hinges 😂
@The DIY Guy, another great video. Would love to see a door replacement fit in an older house (1920`s for example) where the door frames are no longer square due to old movement (frames, wall opening) over the decades. Cheers
Great suggestion! Thanks
I was about to comment this too. Mine are so out that it can be in line at the top of the hinge side, and the lock side at the top will be an inch away 😂
I loved the tutorial, very practical steps, I think it still takes experience with carpentry work to pull this off but
Glad you liked it!
Something I've found if you find your new strike plates are much smaller than your old ones. It gives you wiggle room to place the new ones just 1mm off centre of the door frame to the side. That way you can avoid having to lever off the door stops to relieve tension. Then just use filler to fill in the space around the plate where the old one once sat.
Thank you mate very detailed and good presentation. I am going to attempt to change my house internal 8 doors this summer. Your video is very knowledgeable and I need to watch this many time may be 20 or 40 time to get the confidence to give me the start.
Apologies you might already have mentioned this in the description but would be great to know what tools and the names of the tools you using as I am new in this game. I don’t want my wife making me football and yelling what the mess I have created.
Cheers l and once again thanks for the detailed explanation.
Danke!
Thanks to you too!
I always check the gap between the hinge leafs because sometimes its 2, 3 or 4mm when closed then that will affect your 3mm gap around the door
It takes longer to for the jig and electric router than it does for ol school chisel, great vid though cheers mate keep up the channel!!
Great video. I’m a complete novice so may be wrong but the last two steps should they be the other way round? Should you do the strike plate swap before adjusting the stops as the strike plate could change how the door shuts slightly?
👍👍👍.Thanks
Welcome 👍
Very good video, I don't like hanging doors as I'm never happy with the result, I have one to fit at the mother in laws on Monday, it's even the same door from Wickes, feel more confident having watched this. Thanks 👍
Thanks, you’ll be fine 👍
Great video and lots of good tips. I’d recommend not using an impact driver on screws that come with hinges, handles strike plates etc as they typically can’t handle it - especially if they’re brass and you’re hanging the door a few times during the process
Matchsticks or cocktail sticks for existing screw holes. I uded that to movr the hinges a bit rather than messing about with moving the stops
great job..
i need external renderer in london
would u recommend any website to find one?
Brilliant job. Wish I hadn't used certain builders to do ours because they did such a poor job in comparison!
This guy really needs sponsorships from the best power tools!!!!
I agree 😂👍
Absolutely loving the content mate, quick question, have you ever done work on a flat roof single story extension where there looks to be a leak in places, iv got this myself and looking at DIY’ing to get me through the winter, everywhere is choc a block with work and no one can get out, thinking there damage to the flashing along the gable but need to get up to inspect properly, thought I’d ask to see though, appreciate what you do lad, interesting and educational content!
Yep, go for it. If it is the flashing it should be simple. You can buy flashband at screwfix 👍
Thank you, this covers everything I’ve be been worried about but my first ever door fitting will be fully glazed. Aside from extra care in handling, are there any other glazed specific tips or advice you can offer?
Great video and very good instructions 👍. The only thing I would like to add is aimed more at the novice is if your new handles aren't spring loaded then buy yourselves a spring loaded latch. Not picking fault with your content which is excellent just adding a little bit of advice. 😁
Absolutely! Always welcome extra tips and advice here on the channel!
'Heightf' is now my word of the day.
Fitting window frame would be handy
Amazig video
The quickest and simplest wooden frame for a Christmas tree that will survive the festivities in the tree's bucket of water too.
💪👍
Excellent vid but I would have fitted the new striker plate before moving the door stops
👍
Awesome vid as always! Quick q if you don't mind...assuming the old door is a good fit, could you not lay it on top of the new door and then mark the hinges, handle position etc? Cheers!
Great video! Where do you get the 3 mil door packers? I’m looking online in the USA and can’t find them. Thank you!
I'll give you the best tip of all , get a joiner in to do it. Save you a lot of time money and heartache 😂😂
Well explained videos , 😂
👍
Think I have watched all your videos now and very useful too….but can you tell me if you finished building your man cave/Shed in your back garden yet?
Thanks. Not yet, we have a foundation
/concrete pad and I’m editing that video for release very soon. Materials for the structure arrive next week and walls and roof will go up 👍. All will be filmed step by step 😆
When I went to school half of 72 was 36 not 38😂. Great informative video though, got the wind bags and self centre drills on order
Please do one on how to hang a stable door
Great Video, I've got 4 doors to do soon, I've done them before but it's always a long time between fitting so always good to have a refresher and some tips.
Absolutely👍
I’ve just replaced bathroom wall, door frame and door and Thanks to your video, that’s the easiest door hanging I’ve ever done. Only problem I found is that after hanging the door the gap on the hing side was less then 3mm and the gap on the lock side was too big….could that be because of cheap hinges 🤔
i saw the spade bit and thought of this video of Adam Savage i saw a while ago that talks about forstner bit 😂 they are way better than the spade bit just in the small chance you haven't heard of them
Tip-top-top-tip….Before you remove the old door have a look how it sits in the frame. If it’s a perfect fit simply remove it, lay on top of your new door and trace around it. Let’s say it’s a couple of millimetres shy in the top left corner, write +2mm on the door at this point and it’s 3 millimetres shy on the bottom right so write +3mm at that point. Then remove the door, lay new door on top and add the extra millimetres where you’ve made your reference points and then trim to these lines.
Good tips 😊
It was all going so well until you said 38mm was half way between 72mm for the hinge. It looked more like 76mm on the rule so I’m sure it was just a slip of the tongue 😅. I have a couple of new doors to fit in my daughter’s house soon and I’m sure this video will prove helpful. The windbags seem a great idea and I’m probably going to order some. Many thanks
I replaced 9 doors from Howdens and fitted them, I put the door I took off, placed it on the new door and just marked the area that needed trimming and where the hinges and lock went. Happy days.
Interesting! I’ve never done it like this but sounds pretty easy!
That's what I thought this video was about. I wanted to brush up on my technique before hanging the door
I wanted to replace an old door with a cheap door from Wickes but the height opening is only 1900 and all the doors I have seen are around 1980 with only 10mm trimmable so i really don't know what to do without spending a lot of money on proper expensive door made of solid wood throughout. Any suggestions?
What do you do if the room that the door opens into has a slightly higher floor????
What's the solutions if the old door frame is not level or is crooked. So there are 3 different measurments of width of door at top, middle and bottom. Would you trim the door where catch or frame bit back?
What do you recommend if the frame isnt square or level?
Question i can't screw through to fix the handle as all the holes are right where the latch is ?
Here's a guy you'd be happy to have work in your house ... 👏. Guy who put my new doors in could do with watching this, practicing, and apologising to me!!!
Glad to help and thanks
I did try auger bits before but didn't find them as good as spades personally.
I’ve always used spade bits. Personally I wouldn’t change
What if I'm putting an old door, but into a new frame?
Should I put the door into the frame first, or the frame in, then the door into the frame?
I'm tempted to put the door into the frame first
