How to replace a door frame 👍
Fitted wardrobe builds and alcove units. Maybe for the spring outdoor timber structures like pergolas.
Replace front outdoor lock, suggestion with smart lock if any
Everything you know would be a start. Your videos are brilliant and great detail and very easy to understand.
Could you do a video on how to make understairs drawers?
Just want to say, between you, Robin Clevett and Peter Millard, I've basically got every area of home improvement covered. You're up there with the best of them. Keep it up.
Brilliant, thanks a lot 😊
@@TheDIYGuy1your better then Robin, because your explanation is precise and well presented for us novices
I always check the gap between the hinge leafs because sometimes its 2, 3 or 4mm when closed then that will affect your 3mm gap around the door
Here’s little tip for fitting a door into an existing frame that I picked up off a family member. If you are using the existing hinge / latch screw holes in the frame and they feel a bit loose, grab yourself some bbq skewers or cocktail picks and dip them in some wood glue and knock them into the holes and trim flush. Works well for me in most situations 👍🏻
Good little tip!
Matchsticks too! Not the flamey bit (technical term 😂) though
@@simonbaker3612 The technical term for the bit you want to use is the "woody sticky bit"
Yep, I use match sticks
😊😊
Thank you was amazing to see how easy it was to take off the stops. I want to turn the door so it opens the other way but was deterred from taking the stops off - but now I will. thank you.
Thanks for this great video. I've hung a few doors in my 52 years and there was a few things i didn't know. Good job and love your videos.
Same here...I had no idea about open and fixed leaf's
@@DamoSuzuki66I don’t be-leaf you 😅😅😅
Your videos and walk through step by step guides are top notch. A real help for a DIY novice like myself
Awesome stuff... 10 naff 60s doors to replace at my place and feel ready to take it on now
💪 you got it
Thank you for this super helpful video. You know when someone know their stuff, has a real intention to show how rather than rumble on and show off their toys. Much appreciated.
Best thing I ever made was my own door stands from a 2x4. Made fitting doors so much more effective.
Excellent tutorial, seen all your videos and this is one of the best youve done. One of the best diy channels on you tube.
Thanks so much 😊
Always interesting to see how people do it so differently to how I was taught to hang a door. I would start by putting a leading edge on the door and only plane down the latch side.
The air bags are a game changer too, one of the best tools a second fix carpenter can have.
Thanks for this Cameron. Out of all of videos that you’ve put out I probably found this one the most useful. I’ll definitely be referring back to it in the future. Thank you!
Brilliant, glad it’s helpful 👍
Amazing timing! Was out last night surveying a client's rental that they want to refurb. Replacing doors all round was one aspect. Never done it till now (am part time in this gig at best). Confident that I could get it done now. Thanks! 😎
That’s great, glad to be of help 👍
Thanks for this upload really helpful, I had to take quite a lot off the height and I used a mini circular saw which really struggled cutting through the hollow door, so I've ordered a full size circular saw, seems when it comes to power tools you don't want tools that only just manage to cut deep enough, it's best to have plenty of redundant depth and power.
Glad it helped! Enjoy new tool day 😊👍
Another great video. I think on those door handles with the slit in the square bar, the slit goes vertical so that the grub screw drives into it, spreading the bar and making it grip the inside of handle. I think!
I like the way you explain everything you do eith fine detsil snd your slow enough for us to follow which annoyingly so many RUclipsrs do and are so vague its impossible to follow along also so many hiw to videos have stupid music playing throughout, ive watched so many if yiur videos and its helped me greatly doing dtuff stoynd my flat so thanks 👍
So having bever fitted a door but thinking I had a pretty good idea how to do it. This video pointed out a few things I would have not known or done so great video will be checking back in when fitting my doors.
Fixing to buy my first house. Built in 1981. Very nice structurally wise but a old couple lived in it. Im going to have to update the interior. Doors are one of the first tasks. Thank you for this.
Very thorough. Good presentation. Thank you
The most acute and easy to follow tutorial on RUclips. Thank you so much
You are welcome!
Man this video was awesome. Thank you.
Thank you for the advice. I successfully installed my first door ever. It took me longer than expected but thanks to this video I managed nicely. 👍😉😎💯👍
This video rocks! Well done mate and thank you, saved me from losing six months off my life I reckon. ❤
Great video, about to start renovating our house so looks like I’ll be using your videos to help. Thank you 🫡
Thank you so much! Helped me replaced a couple of doors myself and saved me money! 👍🏻
Wish I'd seen them WIND BAGS 15 years ago..chisel ,screwdrivers ,packers all over the show.
That teal wall paint looks great
Greatings from the USA. Im chopping hinges today.
Hello and good luck
Very well explained I’ve fit a lot of doors in my time and everything you have shown is spot and should be very helpful
Glad you liked it! Thanks
Thanks a lot mate. Followed your video and was able to hang my daughters door.
Excellent video with a good clear set of instructions and simple steps to follow. Thanks.
Superb Video. Like all your videos the procedure is shown step by step. You make it look easy (although I know from experience it isn't). Thanks again for making these videos
Thanks a lot! I try my best to make it nice and simple and inspire others to try and do things they normally might not.
Great helpful video and nice to see you getting a little help from your fancy door clamps.
I hate doors (hanging them, I mean) so this was a great load of help Cameron. Loved the detail and the little funky tools. Nice one as usual. As for other chippy stuff, building frames for work tops would be nice, maybe with drawers to maximise the cupboard space, I never know what is the best way....Just a thought....Yet again, top vid young sir.....Paul..
Thanks Paul for the feedback and suggestions 👍
@@TheDIYGuy1 I genuinely love these videos, it gives an old 'wannabe' a fresh enthusiasm about DIY. I'm sure I'm not the only follower that feels that. Deserved Cameron, deserved..
👍👍
Wonderful video and explanation especially about using the chisel for the new hinge cut out and spacers. Liked and new subscriber
Watched your first clip and after that been watching your videos ever since. Great content here and chunk of knowledge and experience
I look forward for plenty DIY videos 😊
Awesome, thank you!
Brilliant just brilliant i love watching you videos they are soo helpful keep them coming
Thanks, will do!
Buzzing pal, gonna try my own with your tips. Thanks a million.
No problem 👍
fantastic explanation... I come from another country but I bought a house in UK(beautiful country), after your video I changed the first door in the house myself... it was almost perfect...thank you
Glad it helped!
Very good video, I don't like hanging doors as I'm never happy with the result, I have one to fit at the mother in laws on Monday, it's even the same door from Wickes, feel more confident having watched this. Thanks 👍
Thanks, you’ll be fine 👍
Wow, a door stand, wish I had a set earlier, I ended up using saw horses. They work ok for routing mortises, but the plaining I propped up a door against a corner and something else to hold it up. HIs way with the stands is better. So I used both the router and chisel methods for the mortises. My chisel was dull so ...a mess, the router cleaned it up. (I found out about the router and jig later) Also I used a dowel to fill the old holes with wood glue, then drill new holes. Though I wished a had a centering drill bit. The Screws are not flush. Whoa, he is really confident with drilling the hole for the door latch, I used a round plastic guide and a round saw bit, with a drill bit in the middle, and I still was off center, but it was do-able. Also I used plastic shims to help place the door. His way is better. My door is done now but I ended up with a slight droop(2/8 inch or 4-6mm) on the latch side and the door was 1/8 inch too low from the top on the hinge side. Oh well the door is working ok. I did enjoy this video, he really made it look easy.
Excellent video and just at the right time as I'm going to be fitting 11 doors in a few weeks with rose style handles so this video was the perfect one for me. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
I loved the tutorial, very practical steps, I think it still takes experience with carpentry work to pull this off but
Glad you liked it!
Danke!
Thanks to you too!
Excellent video mate!!
Hung a door today following your video ,brilliant worked a treat.👍👍👍👍
Great job!
It takes longer to for the jig and electric router than it does for ol school chisel, great vid though cheers mate keep up the channel!!
Thanks, great video.
Thank you mate very detailed and good presentation. I am going to attempt to change my house internal 8 doors this summer. Your video is very knowledgeable and I need to watch this many time may be 20 or 40 time to get the confidence to give me the start.
Apologies you might already have mentioned this in the description but would be great to know what tools and the names of the tools you using as I am new in this game. I don’t want my wife making me football and yelling what the mess I have created.
Cheers l and once again thanks for the detailed explanation.
Great videos mate just used this tutorial to hang 3 doors never done before but you made it look easy, thankyou
This is the best video i have found thank you so much I liked and subscribed and favorited it.
Great video.. I've hung loads of doors but this is a great primer/fresher well done
Thanks 👍
Great video mate. Just what I need! Got about 5 internal doors to do 👍
Very clear and very well presented. Nice one mate 👍
Thanks 👍
@@TheDIYGuy1 just subscribed also.
Cheers for that 👍
Great video , liked and subbed for future DIY Carpentry projects
Brilliant, super clear instructions. Thanks for all the videos you’ve create. Even the new one with fixing a creaking staircase. I appreciate you breaking everything down. 🔥 Can you link those packers/spacers please?
Glad to help!
Another great video sir Thank you!
You are very welcome
Very good video very well explained makes my life a lot easier 👍👍👍👍
Glad it helped
Excellent video, very helpful. Thanks.
This guy really needs sponsorships from the best power tools!!!!
I agree 😂👍
Very informative, could you please share a video of installation of a large door like 1200mm and what hinges do you recommend
Great video and lots of good tips. I’d recommend not using an impact driver on screws that come with hinges, handles strike plates etc as they typically can’t handle it - especially if they’re brass and you’re hanging the door a few times during the process
Love your videos need to hang a door soon, never knew about the hinges being different on each side thanks
Happy to help!
Thanks brilliant explanation
It's Absloutley amazing tutorial 👏... Thank you so much.
That was excellent 👏
Really good video thanks! Stupid question - how to make sure we keep the drill straight? Looks so easy when you do it!
Bardzo dziękuję, bardzo pomysłowe i jasno wytłumaczone 🙏
Brilliant tutorial!
Glad you liked it!
@@TheDIYGuy1yeah, as you've n doubt seen, tube vast majority of tutorials are on new frames. My house was 'renovated' by a cowboy before we bought it. He put in new doors but they are more of a hexagon shape 😬🙄 and the frames have been hacked away all over the shop 😮😊
thanks for the film, it is very helpful, best regards
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video, thank you
Your work very fine sir thanks
Thank you for your detailed tutorial!
You're very welcome!
Thank you and keep up the great work.
Thanks, will do!
That's really useful, thank you :)
Glad it was helpful!
Great video!
Great video! Thanks
Glad you liked it!
You make hanging a door look so easy. Is this a job for anyone or is more of a specialist job. I want to change my doors but I’ve been quoted an arm and a leg. I have watched your video so many times 😂 to try and encourage myself to do it by myself.
What tools do You recommend I should buy?
Great video. Just wish I had a door to replace now 😉
Do it just for the practice 😂👍
This is a great tutorial, exactly why I follow 😎
Glad you liked it! Thanks
@The DIY Guy, another great video. Would love to see a door replacement fit in an older house (1920`s for example) where the door frames are no longer square due to old movement (frames, wall opening) over the decades. Cheers
Great suggestion! Thanks
I was about to comment this too. Mine are so out that it can be in line at the top of the hinge side, and the lock side at the top will be an inch away 😂
Pretty good, but left out one of the most critical parts - the spacing of the hinges on the frame, front to back. I will cut a template from a piece of card stock, but I would like to see how you do it so the door is flush with the jamb.
Good tutorial mate
Glad you liked it
Something I've found if you find your new strike plates are much smaller than your old ones. It gives you wiggle room to place the new ones just 1mm off centre of the door frame to the side. That way you can avoid having to lever off the door stops to relieve tension. Then just use filler to fill in the space around the plate where the old one once sat.
Great video! Where do you get the 3 mil door packers? I’m looking online in the USA and can’t find them. Thank you!
The quickest and simplest wooden frame for a Christmas tree that will survive the festivities in the tree's bucket of water too.
💪👍
Matchsticks or cocktail sticks for existing screw holes. I uded that to movr the hinges a bit rather than messing about with moving the stops
Nice quick cut away from those ruff hinges 😂
very useful video! thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thank You 🙏
Great video and very good instructions 👍. The only thing I would like to add is aimed more at the novice is if your new handles aren't spring loaded then buy yourselves a spring loaded latch. Not picking fault with your content which is excellent just adding a little bit of advice. 😁
Absolutely! Always welcome extra tips and advice here on the channel!
Perfect, thank you.
Tip-top-top-tip….Before you remove the old door have a look how it sits in the frame. If it’s a perfect fit simply remove it, lay on top of your new door and trace around it. Let’s say it’s a couple of millimetres shy in the top left corner, write +2mm on the door at this point and it’s 3 millimetres shy on the bottom right so write +3mm at that point. Then remove the door, lay new door on top and add the extra millimetres where you’ve made your reference points and then trim to these lines.
Good tips 😊
Thank you 😊
Thank you for sharing the fitting technique.
I’m buying a door which has trimming allowance of 6mm from bottom and 6mm from top. Do I have to stick with this allowance or can I cut little more if needed please?
Great Video, I've got 4 doors to do soon, I've done them before but it's always a long time between fitting so always good to have a refresher and some tips.
Absolutely👍
Brilliant job. Wish I hadn't used certain builders to do ours because they did such a poor job in comparison!
Nice video, but like a lot of videos you show us how to do the easy stuff but not the hard. The hardest part is taking some off the top or bottom. How are you supposed to hold the door while doing that?
Thank you for this incredibly helpful video! I've already hung 1 new door and it was NOT easy! Wish I had seen this video before. Will come in handy fitting the remaining 5 door I have left to replace. In your opinion, will the 3mil space around the perimeter be enough to account for the thickness of 2 coats of semi gloss paint on the new door? Would you suggest an extra mil in this case? Thanks again!
