    Bolvine?? (Sp???) These people need to be in prison for the crime of that name alone.
    But seriously, this is the story of two twisted families, one more so than another. I cannot imagine a father permitting his thirteen year old to date a grown man, but it's even harder to imagine a family so messed up that they'd conspire to kill eight people.
    I hope all the little kids, including Bolvine, (sp??) are doing okay.

    This prosecutor has me thinking I could be a lawyer. The family relationships are confusing. There should be a permanent set up with the family tree of the victims with one or two dot points about them underneath (loving father etc) for memory prompts for the jury. It seems like the locations of the residences will be important too so why not have that on the board as well maybe with some larger pictures to the side so she doesn’t have to say “remember that place where there was only the porch left?”. I’d probably also have pictures of the defendant with his family members. Clearly they are going to come up again and again so we need to have a visual reminder of who these people are.
    There’s also just a bunch of extraneous detail included. It’s like when you are told you need to do an executive summary so you take the first sentence from every paragraph instead of actually thinking about what the actual point of your paper is. I don’t need to hear what every witness is going to argue. I need to hear the general gist of what the defendant did, when, with what and with whom so I can navigate the trial. Add in a bit of sympathy for the victims and that’s a good opening statement.
    This one will just have the jury turned off immediately. “I’m kinda bouncing around here” understatement of the year.

    Opening was pretty bad. "Umms" are annoying once you notice them, but that's not really important. The real problem was the way she strung together various bits of evidence without forming a narrative. It's like reading the dictionary instead of a 3-act story. I couldn't picture what happened and I can barely remember what she said. I know there has to be training for these types of things. At least run it by your colleagues. The case is too important to wing it.

      @NC4E Год назад +3

      That’s exactly right. It needs to be telling a story. It’s like she’s trying to prove every single element in opening and that’s not what it’s for. It was pretty infuriating to listen to a story and right when you think you’re getting into it and hearing about the next person that was found brutally killed it sounds like “this was at that 2nd residence you were brought to, the one with the basement, umm there were 2 rooms on the right, the kitchen was to your left, there was the newly built garage, umm front porch and dandelions growing in the yard. It was right off umm murder road, next to psycho family convenience store in the northwest quadrant of umm” it destroys all continuity and emotion. The jury will hear about the locations several times throughout the trial. I wish the story was more concise. I kept losing interest and for Pete’s sake an entire nuclear family was wiped out!

    ⭐️ I once stood trial for attempted murder, way back in 2002. Prosecutors opening spoke of how a dirtbag had kicked in my moms door, beat her up & robbed her. Despite a stack of evidence, the D.A decided not to go ahead with an indictment. Meanwhile I’m just 4 days into my 1st deployment to Afghanistan so a few weeks after I returned a guy in a mask was seen on shabby cctv “stalking” the guy from his favorite bar, to his truck where the masked guy put a Mossberg shotgun, a small 10.5” weapon & he shot him 3 times. The fat pig actually survived 3 slugs but will always wear a bag for both 1 & 2. The owner of the stolen getaway car admitted he lied to cops, the lead detective was caught in a lie also. The victim, who was now a recovered addict said, “I just told cops what they wanted to hear coz they promised to drop my cases.” The jury took 4 hours to exonerate. Don’t break law of course & remember states like mine that are pro-2A go hardest on gun crimes coz it’s these ppl who are messing it up for the rest of the ppl.⭐️

    This is a very poor presentation from the state. One hour into it, she has introduced the victims & why they were at the house and who was sleeping and taking pictures and whatnt but she doesn't say what caused this family feud. When did it all start and how did it end up the way it did? She should start at who the victims are, who killed them and why. Then introduce the who the characters are.
