This has to be one of the worst opening statement by a prosecutor I’ve heard.
Um
I thought she was good, it’s quite a bit of information. She was concise in putting these many puzzle pieces together.
She's not dramatic but she did a good job I thought
How many times is she gonna say "ummm" was so annoying
@@RaineysWorld that and the lip smacking!
Bolvine?? (Sp???) These people need to be in prison for the crime of that name alone.
But seriously, this is the story of two twisted families, one more so than another. I cannot imagine a father permitting his thirteen year old to date a grown man, but it's even harder to imagine a family so messed up that they'd conspire to kill eight people.
I hope all the little kids, including Bolvine, (sp??) are doing okay.
I rewound this video twice to see if I heard that poor child's name correctly!
You'd just have to know what Pike Co is like🤷♀️😂
haaa!
- One of the kids was named Ruger. These are backwoods inbred hicks.
None of them have a decent name, well atleast the last two babies Sophia and Kylie got lucky
"Um um umm umm". The prosecutor started off weakly. She's rambling and even brought up what COULD have happened? I thought she was going to prove what DID happen. She gets a little better as she goes on.
I just posted the same thing, she doesn't sound credible! Um is a hesitation and it sounds like she doesn't know hercase!
She had my attention at the beginning but I think she forgot her presentation and my mind wandered. I think she lost the jury and it threw her off.
The judge has a, " just sit the hell down" look on his face.
I would imagine she’s very nervous. Probably the biggest case of her career
Good to hear it gets better. She’s at the start of her opening and the “UM”s is making me want to give up and turn it off. It’s sooooo frequent. 5th graders give better speeches
Accidentally came across this trial. I am speechless. What is happening to mankind?
I bet humanity has always been like this. It's jist being more broadcast since the increase of technology helps solve crimes and can broadcast that information to anyone at any time.
I try to look at the goodness of humanity. It's easy to forget that the world can be good, when so much negativity overtakes everything.
And what is it about where all these different people came upon all these different gruesome murders and instead of calling 911 they go get in their vehicles and drive off to tell their relatives?
Losing its morality
@@acmaster244 Pike Co. OH is a rural area, lots of farms and "hollers" and everyone is related somehow.
@@acmaster244 May be shock.
I know as a paramedic I completely froze on one scene on a deployment. All my training had left my mind.
Hope she doesn't do the closing
This prosecutor has me thinking I could be a lawyer. The family relationships are confusing. There should be a permanent set up with the family tree of the victims with one or two dot points about them underneath (loving father etc) for memory prompts for the jury. It seems like the locations of the residences will be important too so why not have that on the board as well maybe with some larger pictures to the side so she doesn’t have to say “remember that place where there was only the porch left?”. I’d probably also have pictures of the defendant with his family members. Clearly they are going to come up again and again so we need to have a visual reminder of who these people are.
There’s also just a bunch of extraneous detail included. It’s like when you are told you need to do an executive summary so you take the first sentence from every paragraph instead of actually thinking about what the actual point of your paper is. I don’t need to hear what every witness is going to argue. I need to hear the general gist of what the defendant did, when, with what and with whom so I can navigate the trial. Add in a bit of sympathy for the victims and that’s a good opening statement.
This one will just have the jury turned off immediately. “I’m kinda bouncing around here” understatement of the year.
Ummm, I agree completely.
@@bucks_bees Yes Umm!
I'm thinking of composing an opening statement for this case! It's such an intriguing one, and I'm certain I can come up with a carefully constructed and plotted opening, which I will then deliver. Watch here if you care to see if I actually do one!! 😁😁
She's not very good. The Governor said she has been living this case for five years. Well I can't tell.
Same exact thought. This was a hot mess! Jumping all around and poorly constructed. A story like this shouldn’t put the jury to sleep, it should be riveting!
He named his son Bovine?????? Wtf!
I kept thinking I heard that wrong but the kid's name sure sounds like Bovine LOL.
My thoughts precisely, lol.
yeah. that is the name of the son between George Wagner and Tabitha
LOL. I was looking for this comment.

It's 2022 ALL Trials should be streamed. I can understand not wanting your face to be shown but your testimony should still be able to be heard. Thanks WCPO for streaming this trial.
Some witnesses are worried about retaliation within the community
@@toasted_.coconut
I get it , but are they testifying with the public in the gallery? There’s a reason court proceedings are supposed to be public. If the public was excluded every time a witness said they were afraid , that’s a slippery slope .Afraid of being killed? Afraid of losing their job? Afraid of ruining their marriage? Where does it stop ?
You where bonging onbwile she was speaking
Especially Federal court cases, yet they're the least transparent and least televised.
Sadly the Vallow/Daybell trial will not be televised either.

I can’t even grasp the concept of this case. At least 3, possibly 4 family members down for mass murder. How does this happen.
Back woods….
First time watching, not yet at the end of this video, now at the part of this mother has some sick hold on her son's, this is one sick family with weak minded sons. My heart goes out to the love ones of the loss family. Last night watched the brothers testimony, this morning seen the cousin testimony of the family, they were so touching to me, then found this video, as of now I see what the story is of this family, although this happened in 2016 it is so powerful to watch. My prayers go out to all the victims love ones, I'm so sorry for your tragic loss.
The States opening seemed kinda haphazard and scattered. At times I had no idea what she was talking about.
I hope what he did to get custody of his child is brought up in court.
The judge literally just said Myspace at the 5:00 mark🤣
A bit behind the times! 😬
He's an older gentleman, lol
I listened five times and didn’t hear him mention MySpace. 🤔
This lawyer went to "UM" university... 😐
What university did you go through?

@@awright119021 That or he's the prosecutors son.
The prosecutor says "um"every sentence. It`s extremely difficult to listen to her. 🤔
I agree with you. She needs to stop with the "UM" with every sentence. It's hard to listen to her. It's driving me batty.
I was just typing the same thing.
Um...um...um....UGH !
She says it after every other word...it's maddening. I don't know, maybe she could seek out some sort of speech therapy with speaking and it would help her get rid of that nasty "umm". It's for sure a learned habit and I think with some help she could stop doing it. She seems quite intelligent but using umm after every other word makes it hard to follow her and I get wrapped up in how many times she's saying umm.
She may be a great district attorney, but she needs some serious help with her speaking skills.
At the bottom of that photo collage the words typed are family tree. In no way was this a family tree. Maybe if they had constructed it as a family tree, it would have been easier to understand and process. With all the years the prosecution had to prepare, this is what we get??? Wow. Smh
Literally the downfall of every single murderer WALMART security footage!
And she saved the receipt!

Too "clever" for her own good huh!
Lol
Wanna know who really messed up? Law enforcement not charging them with ARSON for burning down two houses and multiple vehicles to collect insurance money. Like how tf did no one see a pattern?
This a terrible terrible murder and tragedy it affects so many precious lives. I can’t fathom why someone would do that. 😭 so very sad!
Pure evil
Lose the prosecutor...if you plan to win this case. She appears ill prepared.
Too big of a case for her....5 minutes in and I find myself tuning her out.
This didn’t age well😂
I sure hope Tabitha has full custody of her son now.
This might be the worst opening statement by a prosecutor I have EVER SEEN...
I wish we could see video footage of the field trip that the jury got to go on to see all of the houses and properties where the murders were done.
Starry Night, I would be interested, too but think this is better to not be allowed to see due to safety and privacy reasons for people who live there now. The footage could make it much easier for anyone to find out the locations and go there.
@Starry Night there is a video titled Pike County still reeling from 8 murders. It's by the Columbus Dispatch channel. The trailers are no longer there, but he drives down Union Hill Rd and shows where those 3 occured.
The opening statement is a tough one to follow. A map and a diagram showing the connections to these parties would have helped considerably. The um factor is something the prosecutor needs to work on…
I agree. Aside from the um s, she told the story and told it well😊
It's a very complex case & I thought she explained it really well.
I was certainly able to follow what she said.
I agree about the "Ums", but her main focus is explaining the case, not how many times she says "Um". It's obviously a little habit she's developed. We all have them!
She does use a map of the crime scenes/location. There is a part 2 of this opening statement where it is clearly visible.
WCPO9 Thank you guys for your relentless coverage of this case. It’s a tragedy and honestly the whole world is watching n waiting for justice for the victims and family. We appreciate all the hard work involved and doing such a fantastic job keeping us included in the process.
Prayers for all the victims and family.
Whoever asked her to step closer to the microphone should have also suggested she watch her "um" factor..
This will be a perfect example to new law students on what not to do during an opening statement...
I had to skip it...
Why in the hell would Angela save the receipt for those shoes?
This woman is all over the place. When you have 8 victims, 4 co-suspects/guilty parties, a bunch of babies and gfs and xgfs, it's already confusing. She should've planned this better. Not like she hasn't had time.
8 victims? Wow...I don't know what exactly happed...or why...I've tried listening to the court room trial but still don't understand what and why?

Is it Beau-Vine ?? Is it being pronounced incorrectly or are we perceiving it incorrectly because it is hyphenated???
@@HB.hobby.apiarist Beau-Vine and bovine are pronounced the same.
No offense to the prosecution, but every time she says 'um' it sounds like 'I didn't really care enough to speak through my presentation with authority'. And, for her to say 'you know', that's like asking the jury to tell her they agree with her - in opening statements! For as long as it took to bring this case to trial, and as much as dewine made a show out the indictment, her presentation sounds like she isn't prepared.
Just an awful experience for those poor jurors!
In all honesty, I have a law enforcement career that was very rewarding. To see that the victims received justice. So I am taking up for the state with no disrespect. This trial is unique and I pray there is never a repeat of these family tragedies. The opening is very difficult due to the intermingling of families and names. When this presentation, confusing as it is to those not knowledgeable of how trials work it’s very hard to even keep straight no matter how much you practice pre-trial. She is using Umh, as a way to keep the facts in the order they need to be. I actually made a flow chart when this happened and it was difficult to maintain each occurrence in the correct chronological order. My prayers for the families, friends and all who has been suffering these horrible tragedies. May God Bless and keep them, one and all.🙏🏻💕🙏🏻
TO THE PROSECUTING ATTY, YOU SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED BY HOW MANY TIMES YOU SAY “UM”!! IT’S LIKE HEARING NAILS ON CHALKBOARD!!
Exactly my thoughts, she is all over the place
Instead of telling the jurors what each witness will say, put them on and have them say it! Openings should be to the point and as quick as you can, or you have already lost the jurors before you even start.

Aw George and tabitha named their kid bovine wow poor kid ridiculous name
Opening was pretty bad. "Umms" are annoying once you notice them, but that's not really important. The real problem was the way she strung together various bits of evidence without forming a narrative. It's like reading the dictionary instead of a 3-act story. I couldn't picture what happened and I can barely remember what she said. I know there has to be training for these types of things. At least run it by your colleagues. The case is too important to wing it.
That’s exactly right. It needs to be telling a story. It’s like she’s trying to prove every single element in opening and that’s not what it’s for. It was pretty infuriating to listen to a story and right when you think you’re getting into it and hearing about the next person that was found brutally killed it sounds like “this was at that 2nd residence you were brought to, the one with the basement, umm there were 2 rooms on the right, the kitchen was to your left, there was the newly built garage, umm front porch and dandelions growing in the yard. It was right off umm murder road, next to psycho family convenience store in the northwest quadrant of umm” it destroys all continuity and emotion. The jury will hear about the locations several times throughout the trial. I wish the story was more concise. I kept losing interest and for Pete’s sake an entire nuclear family was wiped out!
I know you could probably do so much better couldn’t you

It's actually Bolvine, but that doesn't make it any less weird. I like Ruger, though.

It's unbelievable. You'd think that she would've learned this in a communications or public speaking course throughout her journey to become a lawyer. Somewhere this should've been taught and stressed to not do this.
you have brought it to my attention and I can't "unhear" it! So Annoying!
⭐️ I once stood trial for attempted murder, way back in 2002. Prosecutors opening spoke of how a dirtbag had kicked in my moms door, beat her up & robbed her. Despite a stack of evidence, the D.A decided not to go ahead with an indictment. Meanwhile I’m just 4 days into my 1st deployment to Afghanistan so a few weeks after I returned a guy in a mask was seen on shabby cctv “stalking” the guy from his favorite bar, to his truck where the masked guy put a Mossberg shotgun, a small 10.5” weapon & he shot him 3 times. The fat pig actually survived 3 slugs but will always wear a bag for both 1 & 2. The owner of the stolen getaway car admitted he lied to cops, the lead detective was caught in a lie also. The victim, who was now a recovered addict said, “I just told cops what they wanted to hear coz they promised to drop my cases.” The jury took 4 hours to exonerate. Don’t break law of course & remember states like mine that are pro-2A go hardest on gun crimes coz it’s these ppl who are messing it up for the rest of the ppl.⭐️
This is a very poor presentation from the state. One hour into it, she has introduced the victims & why they were at the house and who was sleeping and taking pictures and whatnt but she doesn't say what caused this family feud. When did it all start and how did it end up the way it did? She should start at who the victims are, who killed them and why. Then introduce the who the characters are.
My question is if Jake and the mom confuss to the murders why are Ed and Billy fighting the case why don't they plead out to life and save the family from the trail
I agree. It's just so cruel to put this poor family through such a trial.
Why? Because they are selfish monsters who have no thought or compassion for anyone other than themselves. JMO
She left out Kenneth Rhoden when doing each person's profile. 🙁

I hope little Bovine is now free to roam the fields.
The prosecutor sounds like she just got the case yesterday and not prepared. Too much information about all the other people (non-victims) for an opening statement. She could mention them and say we're going talk about them later in the trial. This is poorly presented and confusing, especially when you have 8 murdered people.
why did it take so long to arrest them?
they had all the evidence they needed almost from day one after the murders.
Definitely when they found bullets fired from the same weapon as the murder weapon thirteen months after the murder but yet this is six years after the murders
What evidence did they have on day one that it was the Wagner family who were responsible for this horrific loss of life? There was no Wagner DNA left at any of the scenes.
