    Many of you have commented and shown interest in building these type of drawer slides for your RV. I'm sorry but I don't remember where I got those metal slides. That was more than 5yrs. ago and I didn't have a YT channel then. Just search for *heavy duty metal drawer slides* and get the length and rated weight you'll need. They'll need to be beefy so the drawers don't sag when you pull them out.
    You will not find them at your typical box stores so don't waste your time looking there. These kind of metal slides will be found online in *specialty cabinet or industrial cabinet suppliers* 👍

      Rockler has several drawer slides available. I have used them to build really heavy duty drawers. They rate the slides as to how much weight they will support. Hope this helps.

      @@RVstreet Is it best to put the heaviest stuff in the far back of the dinette drawers or the front to be "kinder" to the RV dinette slide mechanism?

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  3 года назад +2

      @@celestepalm6949 For the heavy duty rails that I bought and use it doesn't matter. My drawers are long and thick so I needed very heavy rail mechanisms not only to hold the weight but make it easy to slide in and out.
      Another note worth mentioning is, everything that we put in those drawers are in plastic bins. When we're getting ready to leave, we pull those bins out and set them on the floor in the back master bedroom. That way that weight is removed when we pull in that slide. I do that as a precaution so I don't put that extra weight on the slide motors when retracting or deploying the slides. Those bins just stay on the floor till we arrive at out next location then they go back into the drawers once I deploy the slide again.

    • @celestepalm6949
      @celestepalm6949 3 года назад

      @@RVstreet Genius! That makes sense in a Class A, but with a multi-slide truck camper there's no other place to put the stuff, especially when slides are in. I'll just have to keep all the lighter goods under the sofa slide & dinette slide then & use the basement for the heaviest stuff.

    Hey Martin, you copied me, Hah! 2yrs ago I literally did the identical drawer upgrade under the dinette, using the same 300lb slides. My drawers are 40" deep. I bought them custom made with dovetail corners from a drawer manufacturer in NC. They made a custom drawer front that came close to matching the OEM design. I should have called Winnebago like you. That upgrade was absolutely a huge improvement for storage.

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  3 года назад +3

      All of the stuff we put in those drawers are in plastic bins. It adds a lot of weight. Probably a 100lbs or so. So when we get ready to pull in the slides and get ready to move, we lift out all those bins and set them on the bedroom floor over the rear axle. That way we take all that weight off the slide motors. Once we arrive at our new location, we just put the bins back in the drawers. It's just a precaution we take so the slide motors don't over work themselves.

As 'bago stuck all their interior electronics in the top right hand brow cabinet on this'16 model 38Q we found that when it gets so hot up there it knocks out all the electronics in the rig. So now we have to ride with the cabinet doors open. I installed more door bumpers as spacers to keep the doors a bit open and a small electronics fan to help knock the temps down. @@RVstreet sorry, I wasn’t very clear. I was talking about the recliners. The slide out base on the 35 F is only about 33 inches deep. Many wall hugger recliners seem to require 38-40 inches. Just wondering how you dealt with that.

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  2 года назад

      @@kevinhammer968 Ah, ok so.....once I had the love seat set back on the slide as far as I could so it would recline fully, I bolted the love seat metal frame to the floor in the back with 4 bolts to 4, aluminum "L" brackets I made that bolted to the floor. That secured the back. The front of the metal frame hung over the slide floor some in the front. So I made two small wooden blocks out of 2" x 4"s (one the left and one on the right about 12"in from each side) so they just kissed the floor, painted them black, then screwed them to the metal frame. That supported the front of the frame and secured it. The blocks are tucked under the love seat so you can't even see them. As it turned out, when the love seat seats normally-not reclined-the width of it is exactly the same width as the booth and forms one nice clean line looking down the edge of the booth and the love seat.

    Marten, my wife and I have enjoyed your video's. We live in Florida in a 55 plus park and it is nice. But there is just so much tv to watch and then everything becomes a rerun, nothing new. So my wife and I have put up our house for sale and we are going full time RV. I intend to imploment many of the things you have done when we find an RV. But I have a question for you. We have just our ssi to live on and boondocking is something we would need to do alot. Do you think solar would help us save money?

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  3 года назад

      Thank you so much 👍
      I just can't answer your question with a short answer. I can't help myself. 😝
      Having solar-will not-save you money when boondocking. It will cost you money up front in order to do a lot of boondocking. But if you're going to be doing a lot of boondocking you will need some solar to provide you enough power. How much solar? You'll have to take a hard look at your battery bay and what's needed there in order to store and use your solar power and the type of inverter you'll need to deliver that power will also be other items that will have to be looked at closely. Equipping your RV with solar and how much solar and everything that I mentioned that goes with it is a far and wide question. Since you are going to be new at RVing you just don't know what you don't know right now.
      I totally understand having to live off a budget on SSI and it is doable. When you sell your house you'll have proceeds from that sale to buy your RV, trick it out with some things that will need to be done right off the bat, stash some money off to the side for an emergency fund and then what's left over can go towards your solar package and the stuff that goes with it. So my advice to you right now is start studying this solar subject in depth while you're also trying to-decide and looking for-what type of RV you're going to buy. Then after you've been RVing for awhile you'll learn what your electrical and solar needs are and what you're able to afford. Then I would address purchasing the items you'll need to live off grid and move forward.
      Now if you want to be fully equipped with solar, battery bay, inverter and all that right out of the gate, then really study up now on what that will take, then as you look for an RV you'll have a fairly good idea of what costs will be necessary to get there post purchase. But being new to RVing I'm just afraid you might not know enough right now and then later on you'll wish you would of done things different.
      I have no idea of your back ground or experience so this advice may not even be needed. 😂
      I have a video coming out on Oct. 31 that will explain how-I have decided-to address and handle my power needs while boondocking and in emergencies when there's no power at all. Like last winter in Texas just to mention one incident.
      Two places that can help you really start to understand solar in a practical sense and in depth are:

      Be sure to tell Tito I sent you.
      DIY Solar Power with Will Prowse - ruclips.net/user/WillProwse
      I hope you're subscribed to my channel to con't to learn what I have to offer AND as you need stuff for your exciting new RV lifestyle, I humbly ask you please don't forget to consider using my Amazon Store: www.amazon.com/shop/rvstreet
      EDIT: I was discussing your comment with my wife and she had a good thought. You could buy a used Thousand Trails Elite Membership for somewhere around 3K or so and that would enable you to also have camp grounds (CG"s) available to you to alternate back and forth between boondocking and CG"s. Having CG"s available is nice to make dumping tanks easy, replenish water, do maintenance, sanitize your fresh water tank, have shore power and all that. It's something to consider. Once you buy a membership there is an annual maintenance fee. It usually is around $500 or so. It would worth looking into to see if it would work for you and your plans. You buy a used membership thru a broker. For starters, here's some places you can buy one.

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  2 года назад

      I'm sure their a well made product and I've seen some people have them. I honestly don't see any benefit of having them. But your right I don't use them and here are the reasons:
      1) The leveling feet are still going to touch the ground
      2) You still have to extend your leveling jacks to far, therefore sacrificing some stability in the RV and stretching your leveling retraction springs to much and over time wearing them out
      I use thick wooden blocks that I made.
      1) They provide a stable, wider foot print for the pads to land on
      2) They keep the leveling pads off the ground and keep them clean and dry
      3) Since I manually level, they allow me to only have to extend the jacks 4' - 5", therefore easier on the entire system and the springs

    I bought a piece of property with extras, one of the extras was a 2001 Damon Challenger. Bottom line I know nothing about RVing. The coach is set up with a well , septic and solar panels, so it is off grid. I finally found your channel but I had already messed up the water. My brother, who has an RV, checked it out, set everything up, so I know the water did work. He was not there when we closed things up. My helpers disconnected the water, curled the hose up under the coach, leaving it connected to the city water port. When I returned, I connected the small water pump to the well outlet without a filter and without clearing the hose. I now know that was totally wrong. I did see there was reddish sludge coming down the side of the RV at the city connection sight. Bottom line, water doesn’t come into the RV any more! I can use the fresh water tank with the pump but how can I fix the problem with the city water inlet? Do you already have a video that address this situation? Everything I have seen shows you how to connect to a working water situation. Thank you for all your videos! I really enjoy watching them. I have learned so much and wish I had watched them first. Since I know so little about RVing I was ready to get rid of the Big Boy (as my husband calls it). My husband is 75, I am 72, since he has early onset of Alzheimer’s this adventure rest on me. He is some help as he used to rebuild engines in his Dads garage, was a computer tech in the Air Force, graduated top of his class however at this time we just take it one day at a time. After finding your channel I now have the confidence we can keep the Big Boy, as my husband calls it, as a weekend retreat.

      As a precaution, after I spray the spigot with bleach and it has sat there for a few minutes, I briefly turn ON the water, then hook up my first set of water gear to the spigot, rinse again thru my first filter, then hook up my water hoses. Totally safe that way.

Once everything was sewn and built, it took 4hrs. to install everything. One of the smartest upgrades we've done for sure. 👍
