Thank you so much. I'd never heard about these "groups" and now my 4 cats' behaviour suddenly makes sense. 🙏🏼 I have to say I'm ashamed that I only just learned this nearly 3 years after I adopted my first cat. This video is an absolute gem!! 💜💜

We use to have two strictly indoor cats up until January 10th when we had to put one of them down because of a health issue that couldn’t be fixed by a vet. The remaining cat, about a week or two later, started to chew away the fur off of his hind legs. We called the vet office and told them what was going on and they gave us a Feliway unit with a refill. Apparently, the remaining cat was showing stress because his buddy wasn’t there any more.

Oh man, I misread the title as How To Destroy Your Cat’s Life, I was like “Well that certainly sounds like an intense video!”

My cat is having his 6th recurrent episode of FIC over the last 3 months and I really don't know what else to try anymore. I have enriched his life, added lots of play time, new toys, Feliway sprays, calming collars, cat puzzles, vertical perches, regular perches, extra litter boxes, prescription wet food, etc. etc. the vets have checked for underlying physiological causes and have found nothing. This is incredibly frustrating and I'm really at a loss.

I've had the same issue. Was he fixed really young? I adopted my boi from a shelter and they fixed him at four months. Just unbelievably cruel and stupid.

I'm with you. Did you find a solution? Someone else was suggesting distilled water, might be worth a go. (Female 2 spayed, all tests negative, has structured play time, 3 litters, bonded with her sister). There's only two things on the list that maybe: and that's feeding stations and my stress level lol

Actually, cats are very social creatures. That's why experts usually suggest having two cats instead of one. Having a buddy for your cat is an amazing thing. They provide each other with exercise, companionship, a friend and so much more.

My Burmese 18 year old cat has chronic kidney disease which was diagnosis last year due to high blood pressure stroke, which has left him blind also his hearing has gone too through a period of time. Recently I looked after my friends 9mth Dog for a week and during the middle of this week my cat started to strain to urinate and he was urinating where ever he could. It was very distressing to watch him and it was in the middle of the night. I took him to the vets first thing in the morning( also became very constipated through the weekend) They kept him in, put him on a drip to rehydrate, started him on metacam, antibiotics, laxapet paste and lactose. They did all the various tests. They found a tiny amount of bacteria in his urine test. Following day brought him home, everything going fine. Bought another litter tray and put it in our bedrooms as he prefers to sleep in our room. Brought his food upstairs too but left everything else exactly the same downstairs I.e. water, food and litter tray, so that he would have the choice of both depends on how he is feeling. Three flights of stairs to go down before and he is old. Let me add that we have another cat who has always respected the older one. Anyway, a couple of day ago, he started showing the same signs of wanting to pee but not being able to. May I add, it seems to happen when he is trying to pass solids as I have just again witnessed this behaviour. Anyway, I took him straight back to the vet again. I was asked if anything has stressed him. I mentioned I have put a litter tray in my room and she said that could stress him. I didn’t mentioned that I looked after a dog at the beginning. The vet said that he could have feline idiopathic cystitis and to keep him on the metacam for another week but also gave him cystoplan to line his stomach and bladder. Sorry for the long winded comment but I am so Desperate and worried about the metacam as it causes more problems for his chronic kidney disease. As I mentioned, he has just had another episode of trying to urinate after trying to pass stools. It went on for an hour. So upsetting to witness. Am I doing the right thing? Also I am going to buy Feliway and a water fountain. He is on renal wet food only now which I have started adding water to.

I have 4 cats in one apartment...on the 4th floor. I was using 2 litter boxes and changing them weekly but I will take you advice and do more. Two of the cats are always a group but the other two are not "hising" but are ...separate.

Hello I was wondering if there was anyone I could talk to about my specific situation to see if I could make it any better for the fur babies. Thank you!

Please help, my boy buddy he has been ripping out all his fur down his tail now it looks like a snake... a patch on his neck and on his hip... hes my only cat. we just moved into a new place he's rapidly losing weight and he's very spoiled not wanting to eat his treats or his wet food. he's all ways been incredibly picky but I fear it's more then that now he's very loved and we give him tones of attention he loves it his litter is always clean and in a remote place and he has his purtch on the stairs and his hiding place in the closet. we just had a baby 6 months ago. and there is a neighborhood male cat outside our door. and buddy just sits on the inside of the door wanting to attack all day. he used to be an out door cat half and half inside... but he's had issues with fighting other cats in the passed. he's very lovable but I'm so worried about him and I am bringing him to a vet in two days when I get my pay cheque. I'm wondering if I should adopt a girl cat or if he would harass her? not in a violent way lol but bug her. he's not fixed. like you said i am very intune with him like hes my own flesh and blood... (i know i know) crazy cat lady.... lol and but idk how to decrease his stress. Help? advise ?

+David Webb - Hey mate try the Feliway diffuser - my 12 year old cat started spraying around the house due to territorial issues with a neighbours cat and after 10 days she has completely stopped. Do not let the other cat near the house - chase it of your property and use water if you must to keep it away. I would also recommend getting him neutered. I hope it all works out.

David Webb Hope this is sorted now but if not then make sure to rule out any skin condition with your vet. If your cat is clear of that then look into phsycogenic alopecia. Hope this helps if you still needed it.

David Webb Please get him neutered asap. Be sure to introduce him to the new baby. The other advice is good. Hope your issues are sorted by now.

My ex wife was going to get rid of my little girls fat cat that she loves. So I took the cat to my house and he has been here for two years. He is still having problems pooping and peeing on the floor. I don't know if I can take it anymore. I hope this will help because it will break my kids heart to see him go. Most of the things you said are already being taken care of. I will keep doing my best. Thanks!

Do most cats really want the company of other cats? In general, I don't think they much care for each other's company. It seems more the case of us projecting our needs onto them.

@@leapyear9460 I have a pair of cats that do everything together and they hate the new kitten. Unfortunately, the kitten really really needs a friend. He cries when he's alone and always wants to play, but the other two cats hate him. They're very interested in having friends.
