You forgot the stress my cat goes through when she always decides to get comfy in my lap 30 seconds before I need to get up to check the oven/microwave/etc...
When I volunteered with cats at the shelter, there was one little cat that did nothing but hide. It turns out, she was a return. Her owner’s apartment had been broken into by little hellions who terrorized the cat. After that, the cat was so scared that she started pooping on the owner’s bed regularly. The employees at the shelter were frustrated, because they wanted time to work with the owner to help with the behavior, but the owner just couldn’t deal with it. So the poor little cat not only had her home terrorized, but she was also brought to the shelter, making it all worse. I could never understand how people can just get rid of pets at the first sign of difficulty. Then again, one family returned a cat to the shelter after two weeks because it didn’t give them enough _eye contact_. They felt like they couldn’t bond enough with the cat. Nothing will surprise me now.
M Kuti-Childress “?” People should have to take tests to get a cat. When I got Dillion from the shelter I was required to have a one to one talk with animal control. Asking me questions like “how much do you think this cat will cost a month?”, “what will you do if the cat destroys furniture?” Ect.
I recently caught some feral kittens that I'm working on taming and rehoming. It's stuff like this that makes me scared to take them to a shelter. Hopefully I can find them homes with people I know so I won't have to worry.
@@marleneslichter3472 They do that at the adoption centres and shelters here. They also have you make appointments so the state can come out and see your new pet's house. It's a little much but I can see where they're coming from. All of my cats have been rescues. I've never had state come out to my house but it's nice to know they do that when necessary.
Thanks Jackson, my senior rescue cat lives in a very low stress home which is essential to her health as she has a heart condition and is 19.5 years old. She came to me at 15 years old very timid and afraid of most people. The shelter advised me that she would hide and personally came to help her settle. She had made herself at home on the sofa before I had even signed her adoption papers. I think the thing that helped her the most was, whilst she was still in foster care, I had given the carers an umwashed throw from my bed and a clean freshly washed tshirt so she would know what her new home smelt like before she moved in. She is now a confident and content cat who is interested in visitors and greets neighbours. The shelter has given me much help and behavioural advice very similar to that in your videos. Your videos have really helped me understand the behaviours and ways of my cat.
I run a rescue and make myself available to my adopters 24/7 any questions concerns or help they need they know they can call me and I will always answer
Yes, I did similar for my rescue before coming home together. Put a carrier in the room with her, with my worn t-shirts (we had already bonded, but I was not cat-ready, so had some prep before coming home with me). Poor thing had been 8 months in 'the system', and was a super stressy kitty (6yo). She was a couple of months in the pound, taken into the rescue centre, had two different fosters, two failed adoptions, and back and forth to the rescue centre. Plus, I strongly suspect she had come from a DV home before that - she freaks out at yelling, or smacking (as the first failed adopter had done). We are five months in, and she is really starting to get a lot more confidence (she was settled about 6-8 weeks in, but still scared of everything). She still has a little ways to go, I figured a good 8-12 months to leave most of that trauma behind her. She will get there, I have had other trauma rescues before, takes time for them to completely relax. I also got her off the dreaded kibble, and while she is still only on a 50% raw diet, 50% premium wet, she is now getting close to her ideal weight. My goodness she weighed a lot when I brought her home!
My Dad came to visit for a few days. He has 2 dogs. My cat was fine while he was here but after he left she peed on the bed he had been using. I stripped the bed, changed out all the sheets etc and then used my pajamas as scent soakers on the bed. She’s happier now and we’ve had no more accidents.
I know this is an old comment but just in case it helps someone now, this is a sign that the cat wasn't fine while he was there. The cat was just masking that discomfort until he left. It's like the difference between telling someone to their face they're an asshole and saying it once they leave. The former can cause a confrontation you're not prepared to deal with; the latter is a way of trying to get your confidence back afterwards.
I live in Oregon I had to evacuate my house because the wildfires . I had to put my cat in the carrier as fast as possible , when we arrived to a family friends house. He was none stop meowing but I kept him clam by talking to him all night and playing cat music all night . I didn’t sleep. It was definitely something he’s never done but he definitely appreciate me next to his side ❤️
When I first became pregnant my cat peed my bed twice. I knew he felt insecure and we worked on it together. He's much more confident now. He's even more attentive to me now lol my little shadow 💙
My daughter has two cats that have moved with her from Monterey, CA to Portland, OR and finally to Seattle, WA (first a rental and then to a house they purchased) and she has always set up a base camp for them immediately in each new location to help them transition. It worked great and her cat’s moving stress levels have been minimal each time! Her cats’ health and happiness are a priority in her life!
My last cat had the biggest mojo. Moved and he just went around looking at everything for 10 min. Then "I live here now" and was completely at home. Will be hard to find such a strong cat again tho.
i used to have 2 cats. I moved from a townhouse to an apartment. literally 100 feet down the street. The big outdoor cat hopped out of the window and returned later. he knew we had a new place to live. the little indoor cat kept jumping out of the window. she kept trying to go home.
My cat was somewhat like that too! Brought her home a month or two ago. Shes my dads cat that used to be mine when I lived with him. She hated the downstairs at first, but my room? She adored and still adores it to the point it’s our room. Since then though, she owns the entire cat. I don’t think she’s strong as much as she is blissfully unaware.
We moved our 3 cats from Michigan to Oregon, 8 years later moved to Texas , 4 years later here to Colorado. As long as you get the new home ready first the cats are pretty resilient. But we take the furniture, bedding, cat tree's and place them in the new home first. One of those three cats moving with us just died at age 21. I think a cat would rather move than be left behind!
Thanks for this Jackson. I've recently had this experience with my 5-year-old Henry. He is an indoor /outdoor cat who prefers to pee outside. He has a big litter tray indoors but he hasn't used it in about a year. I started noticing he was licking his private parts a lot. He also started staring at me and herding me toward his litter tray, he'd get in it and show me that nothing was coming out. (so smart!) Off to the vet we go and yep, he had a urinary tract issue due to stress and was given a shot to make him pee and pain meds for a week. All good for a couple of weeks, then same again, back to the vet and same meds but also "urinary tract" food prescribed that cost a million bucks. Before all this started, I was encouraging crows to come on my balcony, love their intelligence! I believe that was the issue for Henry's stress, crows hanging out, getting fed and partying on our balcony. Stopped partying with the crows, much to their chagrin! I've kept up with the special food (found a cheaper brand) and all has been well for about 6 months. I had never heard of this issue before and learned a lot. Wow, I've just about written a small novel here! Thanks again Jackson. ᓚᘏᗢ
Your "cat vocalizations" sounded so natural that my cat reacted to them 😄 That is actually a sign for me that you know well what you're talking about 👍
Omg, everything you said can be applied directly to humans and human relationships! Its almost exactly the same. The same considerations and recommendations you make here for 'dealing' or 'helping' a cat are all the same as when we deal with humans. That's crazy. Your videos are therapy for cat owners, and everyone human in general for their own lives.
I’ve been meaning to ask him this too. Brought my first daughter home last month and occasionally my kitty will now let out a loud howl and then throw up a couple piles around the house. I figured it was stress but I want to know what I could’ve done differently to prepare him better for the baby’s arrival and the sadly less attention I give him now because my hands are always full now.
This helped me refocus, thank you! I didn’t recognize my cats sudden vomiting as stress. I just brought a new puppy into the home 2 weeks ago and my cat started vomiting. Well, yesterday he was struggling to use the bathroom and I noticed blood on his privates. I took him into the vet immediately. They were unable to see him bc he gets so stressed at the vets he tried to attack them. This is all so eye opening to me but the vet suggested it was stress related and I feel like your video has solidified that. Thank you! 🥺🤞🏻🙏🏼
Jackson, here is one I found for the first time with this cat. Handcrafting! I started doing things with my hands while watching TV. TV time used to be pet me time. He started peeing and I could not understand it at first. Then it clicked in the stupid human brain, it was I was not petting as I was working with my hands! As soon as I got it, and put down the thing in my hand to pet and belly rub, it stopped. Since I "got it" he will come the second he sees me with something, I put it down and pet/belly rub, he will wallow in it for a time and then get up and go sleep someplace else so I can get back to working with my hands again. I hope this helps you and others with their cats that would of never thought of this either. It was stress thinking that object meant more to me than him.
This is SUCH a good video to share! Stress in cats can be a real issue and it's SO important for cat owners to understand it. Thanks as always for sharing this Jackson, you're pawesome!
Thanks for this video Jackson. We have rescue cats, and it actually started with someone asking me if I would take in this little kitten , with the sadest story. No one wanted her and I know if someone with no experience took her in, she would probably end up with new homes a lot of times, because rescues can have some strange behaviour and this one has some issues like being really sensitive and insecure = she gets stressed really fast. But we have found a special diet and other things to do with the help of the vet. And of all of our rescues she is my most precious furbaby, and the one who gives me the most worry but she is worth it, and the others are mostly really good at helping her when it is bad
I got about 10 scratch posts, a cat tree, toys, litter boxes, fleecy blankets, heated blankets, tunnels etc. before we adopted our bonded pair of kittens (they’re brothers). Despite moving being traumatic, they moved in with us without any problems. It took them a while to warm up to us but they didn’t give us any trouble. Preparation is essential if you’re thinking of adopting a cat (or cats; a bonded pair is a joy to have)
This video no matter how many times I've watched it in the past, still makes me have flash backs to when I had my cat, and I still hate myself for when I think about how horrible I was to her, and it makes me want to cry😭
I adopted two sister cats just recently. They're 5 years-old, have spent their entire lives together but I can see how the stress from moving into a new family has affected one of them because she hisses at her sister whenever she comes too close. Hopefully, once she's getting used to the new place, they both can go back to being best buds like the owners described them to be before!
I must say, I recently moved over 10 hours away from where my 2 boys marked as their territory. And once we got here I opened the carriers and they instantly took to the new place. It's like their mojo x10000 compared to the old house. But I think what helped is that I've raised them as 'travel' cats. Not sure if it was wrong? But since kittens I've shown them where I am is home, they are always safe. When I left on holiday I would take them with me, if I went to visit someone far away, they would come with me. As long as I am with them, have food and water and they can sleep in the bed I sleep in they are happy little kits. I've never had a stress problem with them as those that Jackson mentions. The only time I've had territory peeing was when a new person moved into the house but once they saw they were a friend they stopped. Thank you for this Jackson, I've shared this with all the friends I have that own kitties 💜
Someone please tell Jackson that no one can click the notification bell because it's disabled because his content is marked as "made for kids" :( EDIT! thanks to @Nineorae for the advice! Un-subing and re-subbing fixes it! :)
Thank you for yet another amazing video Jackson. We've had to invest in Feliway for our 9 yo Bella. We've had her for 8 years, our neighbour bought her from the RSPCA as a play friend for their dog (🤯 go figure) but they didn't want her anymore so gave her to my daughter as a birthday present. According to the vet she suffers anxiety (we only keep her indoors as she hates outside) and has little knee pads, elbow pads, even a back leg that now looks like a patchy chicken drumstick. Bless her. She is praised, loved, cuddled and is alot better but still gets stuck on 'repeat' when grooming one spot. I've received discovered CatTV on youtube which I put on the tv for her. It's calming music to birds, squirrels, etc and she sits right in front and watches for ages. She's fascinated by the squirrels (we don't have them over here). She's certainly a unique personality, quite bipolar at times as she can sit purring on your lap after she's wanted quality time with you, then you can see the transition of mood on her face and then she's annoyed and jumps off. Once she's calmed herself she's back 10 mins later wanting to get back on your lap. She's our special little girl though 🐱🐈🥰😻
Thanks so much for all these great videos, Jackson! My family moved a lot growing up, but it wasn't until we moved from Hungary to Brazil that our cat started peeing EVERYWHERE in the house. He would never be aggressive, but he did once spray on my mom. Because it only started 1 year after the move, we never really linked the 2 events, but now that I think about all the strange creatures we had wondering around our back yard, it's no wonder the cat was stressed and territorial.
Thank you Jakson! you are so kind and respectful when talking about how we should treat our kittens without, however, trying to humanize them. this is really admirable!
Thank you so much for this video! After having numerous service animals for PTSD from multiple deployments I’ve truly found comfort in my cat. He’s an indoor cat as he has FIB but I’m always looking for insight and education into ways to make his life better
@@marinacosta8835 My husband works in a hospital and during peak covid we both had two jobs. Our poor cat got so used to being alone. Then I rage quit both of my jobs and was home all the time for a few months...
I want to thank you so so much. You have just explained to me all the questions I had about my cats quirky behaviours but never knew how to ask a vet. I’ve deducted they’re both experiencing territorial stress. My cats constantly sit at the front 2 windows of my house and I have heard them fighting through the windows the stray cats on the outside of the house. There’s no protection. My 2 cats have started fighting more and one mounts the other and bites the back of his neck frequently. They also do the walk walk *GROOM* walk AND both frequently vomit. My poor babies. That room with the windows is their “Basecamp” and I just now know I’ve just been causing them significant stress 😢😢😢 one of my cats recently got a urinary blockage and the vets don’t seem to know why - I’m betting stress. Just like you said. I feel so guilty. I’ve closed that room door to them for now and have moved their cat tower to the family room, placing scent soakers everywhere, buying feliway diffusers tomorrow and am gonna play with them till I die. Thank you for sending this video to me, I had no clue, I just thought they were weird cats and brothers r fighting. How long does it typically take to start seeing positive changes in stressed out cats after making changes? 😪
very cute kitties, super friendship. God bless you my friend.🥰💓😺 I want a world where cats can live happily. I love cats. Every day I feed and give love to stray cats. Let there be no hungry cats. I will spread this all over the world 🥰🥰💖💖
Thank you Jackson. I am glad to have watched yet another of your videos. My cat moved in with me two weeks ago. I made sure everything was ready before bringing him in. He is better but still very stressed out.
Hi Jackson, my fiancée and I just bought our first home and we’d love to put some cool cat shelves in for our babies. Could you do a video on the best ways or designs to set up a cat wall?
Look up the episode in, "My Cat From Hell.". He's done one already, actually, repeatedly. You can do shelf steps, where the cat jumps up, gradually. They want to be up high. You want to create a, "Cat Super Highway," (up off the ground, so the cat doesn't have to touch the floor, AT ALL) and can make it all around the room, in a complete circle. The best shelf, would be the highest one, and I would make it really long... going around the room, up high, close to the ceiling. I bet you find that's where your cat hangs out the most, once you do it. They LOVE to hover, and watch new people, from above, especially, when one has visitors. It'd be great, IF, your cat had his/her "Super Highway" up, circling the room, like those old trains that were up high.
I was so very blessed with two great cats! And surprisingly enough a lot of this I learned by having dogs so much of this came naturally to me when I got my kitties. But as always, thank you so much Jackson, you always have something new to share! 💙
Wish I could give this jFIVE thumbs up! One additional thing I have discovered with my rescue kitty, is that a soft voice or a whisper seems to calm troubled waters. . I hold her or get down to her l level and just talk to her in a quiet voice, I am amazed at what a difference it makes.for everyone. And a little soft music as well. A little "spa music" seems to be her preference. Anyway, thanks for all your great help!
I added a kitten and puppy within a month to my other cat who was 10mo and he ended up stressing by having a lowered immune system and contracted ringworm. No one else got it as he immediately went to the vet. He is great friends with the two now
How do we get information out to people? I adopted a kitten after not having one since I was a little kid. I sooo wish I would have watched all these videos BEFORE I adopted. Not because I don’t love my kitten, but I thought I knew things and I knew nothing! I’m thankful for the awesome videos. Adopting a pet is a very long, serious, expensive, sometimes frustrating, time consuming, but wonderful, joyful commitment. Our rescued babies are at our mercy. I just hope mine feels my love and that she is happy with the home I’ve provided for her. Thank you Jackson!
A cat grooms itself about 3 and a half hours a day. Basicly after all the major actions during the day. When your cat is overgrooming it will not stop it, no matter what you do. No food, no toy is more interesting but more importantly, it will hurt the cat. There would be parts with hair loss or other significant signs.
Of the hair loss I know of. That is a pretty obvious indicator. But I am more talking about for example when he said to look for them suddenly stopping what they're doing just to groom themselves. Because I always thought that is normal cat behaviour. I want to be able to detect the lesser obvious signs of overgrooming.
@@DetlefBrunhilde I understand. As he and you said it is a normal behavior. Knowing your cat, you will be able to see what's normal and what's getting weird. When overgrooming the cat seems to be obsessed with it suddenly. I'm afraid there is no other indication
I thought my cat was an over groomer until she suddenly licked the fur off her belly within a week. What I thought was compulsive grooming actually wasn’t.
Hey Jackson, just want to say thank you for all your videos! Before we moved into our house, our two cats (Daisy and Charlie, a mom cat and her now-adult son) were super snuggly with each other, never saw cats outside through the windows because we always lived in apartments where there weren’t any neighborhood cats. Soon after buying our house, they started seeing cats outside and Daisy would redirect her frustration and aggression at Charlie, attacking him and hissing/growling anytime he was nearby. It was very sad because they were no longer acting anywhere near like the mommy/baby they are. Well, I took the advice that you’re always giving about not free-feeding by taking away their big feeder and started giving them portions, and almost overnight Daisy’s aggression towards Charlie pretty much disappeared. Yes she still gets annoyed with him when he’s way too clingy for her liking, but she was like that before anyway. But they no longer get in possessive tiffs over their food bowls like they did before, and they’ve gone back to grooming each other and snuggling during their naps. It’s amazing how that one simple switch changed everything. They still see cats outside, but she doesn’t show signs of aggression about it. Now, if only we could afford to replace the chain link fence around our yard with a tall vinyl one that they can’t see through and neighbor cats can’t jump over, we’d be in even better business. That’s still a few years out from now, but until then, I’m content with their behavior now. So, thanks again!! 😸
One of my cats tends to manifest his stress in the form of bladder crystals. Been working with my wonderful vet to manage it and I think we finally found what works best for him aside from diet changes (anxiety meds since April).Trying to figure out what is triggering his stress is hard through, still working on that part. This video gave me some things to look at, thanks Jackson!
Can I ask what diet changed you made? One of my cats has had cyctitis a couple of times recently because of stress and although I know the trigger I also want to do anything else I can to support her.
Wish I'd known this with my first cat, now I do though and my current cats are so happy thanks to the advice of this amazing gentleman! Love you Mr Galaxy xxx
As I am watching this my 4 month old kitten has suddenly decided the litter box is fun to play with and throwing kitty litter everywhere right after I cleaned 🤦🏻♀️
My 4 month old does this also i finally got a lidded litter doesn’t toss litter out as much but now he tries to climb on top or plays with the movable door 😓
Judeth Howton have you moved your litter box by any chance? I moved mine yesterday just about 4 feet and that’s when he started playing with it. I thought maybe he was trying to tell me he didn’t like the corner I moved it to so after my first comment I moved it back. He hasn’t played with it since I moved it back! 😳🙏🏽 The other thing is I have my kitties toys in the corner so I flip flopped when I moved the box there. Maybe he thought since that’s where they always play, the litter box must be a toy? 🤔 🤷🏻♀️
I move it around alot lol he plays with it no matter where i move it lol!! He has spazz attacks thats usually when he tries to climb it i believe i need to get more toys cause i think he gets bored!
After we adopted a kitten and brought him home, first 2 days he peed and 💩 on some super absorbant cat rug, after that we tried to teach him to use the litter box.....and after 5-6 days he peed first time in our bed and after one week he did the same. But after we brought another litter box in our bedroom he never did that again. So thank you Jackson, I learn so much from you about cat behavior ❤️
Can you do a video of how to tell if your two cats are fighting or playing? My boys don’t puff up or anything but there is an occasional hiss or growl. I think they’re playing, but I’m new to the cat realm! You’ve been so helpful with your videos!! Thank you so much!
my cat just vomitting and had diarrhea two days ago because of she was lost for 5 days. after that, she didn't had any appetite. but thanks to God, she's getting better now. eat well and have my love a lot.
That is perfect: lying with my british shorthair girl Linchen on the couch and watching cat daddy's new video.😻 Thank you jackson we all love you here in that house.😺👨👧
What great info. Thank you. My house lions spend the day and night patrolling the indoor window perimeter. We call it “being on duty” They take turns, like work shifts. I have seen them jump or get stressed when Toms, or critters come into their yard.
Dear jackson, I watch your TV show every time it's on; please keep up the great work. Absolutely love the show. My question is, about 3 months ago I adopted from a local shelter to domestic shorthair fur babies. They are both around 5 years old, sleek, and the shiniest deep black cats that I have ever seen. I have taught them several tricks which they absolutely love doing with me, I have to admit I love it too, they are so easy to train. They are both female siblings, and from time to time I don't know why, the smaller one will just jump on the bigger one and even though it looks like they're fighting they're really only playing. It's almost like a fighting match, all I have to do is say that's enough and they will turn their heads and look at me as to say are you kidding we're having so much fun and you're breaking us up!! It is so adorable and the important thing is that they are having a ton of fun. After I tell them to stop, they will go to neutral corners of the room lie down and go to sleep. My biggest problem though is that they have severe digestion problems. They have both been to the vet for a general checkup and the vet told me to put them on a special diet for Digestive problems. Oh, it is so gross to look at and to smell, however, they eat it so they must like it but mom does not like it!! The only thing that they will eat is the chicken formula in the Pate form. Is it all right that for every meal they're eating exactly the same thing? I have tried fish, meaning salmon, whitefish, tuna and have even tried getting slightly different consistencies and then putting it in my blender to make it into a pate form. If it is not totally smooth and clump free they will not eat it they just sniff it and walk away. They just look at me as to say, you're kidding you don't seriously want us to eat this s*** do you? I have had cats my whole life and all of my other cats always bit into their food, chew it, and then swallow it, is it normal that these two cats are just licking up the food and swallowing it? I've never seen this? They also shed quite a bit even though I brush them twice a day, what else can I do?
I watch your videos to chill (big stresses recently) and my big boy gave me the DIRTIEST LOOK at your caterwauling, it made me stop crying (lost my elderly dog 3 weeks ago) and laugh until he meowed at me indignantly. Thank you.
Thank you for your videos! We have been able to live out of our vehicle, where she learned traveling was normal, into a shelter where we trained her to walk with us comfortably with a leash, to live in staff at a motel; my magpie Mia is 'Assistant Resident Mouser' with the legendary tabby 'Hickory' motel 'Welcome Committee' 😁 We have introduced new events calmly and structured our rhythm with her safety in mind and she has she has adjusted well and even aced beyond our expectations, given the circumstances. Thank you again for your universe of information and perspective...the video on what cats don't like was hard to watch, thank you for clearing up some misconceptions!..
Thanks for emphasizing we need to see our cats' behaviour not as mean, but as a sign something is wrong. I know it's ALWAYS my fault if my cat misbehaves, even if I don't know the reason right away.
My parents are so dense when it comes to taking care of our cats. Our oldest one clearly has an overgrooming problem, because her belly is completely hairless, but my parents try to say that she doesn't actually overgroom, and her belly is only bald because her fur never grew back when she was spayed like 12 years ago. That's completely absurd.
Cats bond with someone in the home. You can be that person for the cat and make her feel safe and loved. Unless she is being abused, her issues can be overcome. Your parents don't need to recognise the problem for it to be addressed.
Bro my dad is doing the same thing the cat has been around for 10 years & has never licked this crazy before. I don’t understand how they can be so blind
Hi Jackson. I’ve been watching your videos for quite some time and have received a lot of great information on how to take care of my kittens. I recently adopted two of them and have been trying to get more knowledge on various things. Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for this video! My trio family recently moved and we have two cats, a boy who is essentially a dog personality wise usually and another who only comes out when at least one of her three humans is home. We moved from a step ranch to an apartment. She's about a year and a half older than him so roughly 9.5 years old while he's 8 years old. He's always had a ravenous appetite and ate anything we gave him while the girl is pickier. He's a Norwegian Forest Cat and is really slim for how big he is, the vet said that he was perfect weight in December (he had an upper respiratory infection). Once we moved into the apartment in the middle of March. We thought Iris was going to revert to being completely scared of her shadow like she was when we adopted her, but Barnabas seems to have disliked it the most. For a month after we moved he's had EXPLOSIVE poops multiple times a night at times. We brought him to the vet countless times and one gave him two shots that he didn't explain what they were for (other than "anti-diarrheal") but when we transferred to a different vet as those shots made him even worse, the vet we saw there was like WTF why did that vet give STEROIDS? He made no note of why, just that he gave three. We went back to her multiple times and we finally changed his food. He lost two pounds and felt really bony for awhile. Every time we try to feed him a bit more to fatten him up even a little bit, he gets diarrhea. The vet brought up doing an ultrasound but said that those can be inconclusive, are expensive, and that they don't have an in-house ultrasound tech so we'd have to pay more to get one to that specific vet. We probably spent 1,000 dollars on him. We don't know if he's still stressed from the move or what. If I remember correctly the vet ran his blood through a test for hyperthyroidism since he wants to eat 24/7 but is still pretty skinny and I think that that was negative. Our other cat isn't behaving like this. The troubled one doesn't over groom or displacing behaviors (any more than he normally did which was occasionally for an itch or something). We've tried using pheromones and it didn't seem to have any difference on him. He's never been overly hyper unless we give him catnip. He still scratches his scratching posts and uses them a few times every day. We thought he was allergic to grains suddenly but he had EXPLOSIVE diarrhea everywhere in our apartment bathroom (we're renting D:) he somehow got it on the wall opposite of the litter box, all over the floor, on the baseboards, on rugs, on himself (tail and long butt fur). We've fed him sensitive stomach foods since late May. We don't know what's happening :( Can cats be stressed about "new" environments (ie moving to a new place) many months after they started living there?
I have a dog... I think they're much more simple... in so many ways. I think the dog is so much more straightforward, spontaneous, less "sneaky" and shows his emotions so much more clearly making it so much easier to bond and create routines with him that are working for both. I love watching cats, though, because they are so beautiful, sinuous and elegant that they just fascinate me... 🤩 Hi everyone! Watching from Italy 🇮🇹 I love you American guys, I love everything you do, the good manners and the respect and care you show to every person, animal as well as surroundings... It's such a pleasure being with you, take care and God Bless! CIAO!!! 😻
I feel like there was a confusing conflation of *causes* of stress with *manifestations* of stress in this video in terms of the way it was divided into sections. That said, great video as always
I got my kitten because I am home because of the pandemic. The kitten really helped my older cat who was a rescue. My older cat is so much calmer and well adjusted. She would get stressed and throw up. She stopped throwing up.
My fur baby, Hope, has been licking and grooming like crazy and I ran a flea comb over her fur a few times but got nothing. Then, I found this video and now I've figured it out; stress. A couple months ago I found a baby cat outside. Took her in, took care of her, introduced her to Hope and they became best friends. Unfortunately, our little 'Grace' was hit by a truck tire and died just a few days ago. I believe that not only that I'm in grief and shock, but Hope is, too. She's been hiding more often as well, and it's a new thing for her to be doing. So, I thank you, Cat Daddy, you have been extremely helpful through the years! ( I also learned how to introduce cats to each other years ago from your help, very grateful ☺️💕)
My cat is literally pouting with me right now for me running a skill saw earlier (to build her some cat shelves). She knocked some stuff over and is now avoiding me. She's in the same room but isn't having it. Shaking my head. "Can I just do something that you're gonna love later?" SMH. Sigh.
Never had this problem she knows it's hers and if she doesn't I show her! I have been taking her on a harness to the pet store since she was a kitten. She usually picks her toys out.
I was once taking care of my roommate's cat when she went to Greece. The cat was mad at her and would not use the litter box for the entire time she was gone. When she returned the cat started using the litter box again.
Thank you Jackson. I love routines rituals and rhythm myself. My darling Butch is my world. I swear he’s not a cat at times. I’m so Appreciate to him for his patience. I’m grieving because his environment changed. He was born on farm, but raised in our home. Tiny little thing that didn’t realized his size. Acted like a king. We had two border collies who raised him from a kitten to 3 yrs of age. One of those dogs passed away 10 months ago. The alpha dog. And second would stay at the back of the pack. We moved back to the farm. I know this is SO NEW. SO BRIGHT AND EVERYTHINGIS DIFFERENT. Butch usually lets me teach him things. Very social. Mouser, bug catcher. One time he killed a mouse then put it in toilet. Another time I watched him catch a fly with one paw. Really amazing. I think you would say he’s cocooning. Hiding under the blankets. What makes me sad is he’s been hiding a whole day. No water. No food. I’m going to try to lay next to him. And talk to him. I know he has to calm down before I can talk to him. Be his teacher in the new world. It just rips me apart to see his personality change. I’m not use to my boy being afraid.
Hi Jackson, I'm a huge fan of you and what you do for cats every day. I am currently helping my cat through a case of territorial stress, and I consulted this video of yours for inspiration. Long story short, we live one level about ground floor yet we have cats all over our tiny balcony and some will even enter the house. After trying out a lot different deterrents we finally found one that works 100% thanks to your videos and your TV show. Now one week in, my little buddy is a lot calmer and happier. So thank you so much. I wondered if you could make a video on time after going through territorial stress? Now that the other cats are staying away, how do I help my little buddy reclaim this space? What do in places the other cats marked with their urin? Can a cat actually tell the difference between old and new marking? Thank you again so much for everything you do for cats everyday. And a note for anybody it might concern, fighting a cat invations on a small balcony is whole different ballgame than fighting one in a garden :D
Such a great informative educational video that every single cat owner, in my opinion, needs to watch more than once in order to understand some of the real intricacies that is ultimately what being a responsible cat owner entails. So many of these details are missed in cat owners and it really is such a shame because these precious little creatures can’t communicate with us in the way that would just make things clear to us. What they need, what they’re missing, their fears and anxieties and pains. It’s up to us as the owners to equip yourselves with this sort of information and really use it in order to care for our cats in the best way possible. They rely on us to,and it’s the responsibility we sign up for when we decide to take on the care of a pet- no matter what animal. You know what I would like to see? Some sort of exam where potential owners are given the materials needed to improve their knowledge of what it means to own and take care of their pet of choice before they have the right to adopt that animal. Like a licence or certificate or something to say yes this person knows what the daily needs of owning this animal entails. It’s a privilege to own a pet and I don’t think it should just be something “anyone” should be able to do without so much as a cash exchange or agreement. If for whatever reason down the track that owner has been found to be not following through on the basic needs of that animal- the animal can be removed from that person along with their license to own. Not adhering to an agreement to care for that animal as signed for in a contract maybe upon adopting- could mean facing criminal charges. I’m serious. I see fit to often animals suffering because their owner isn’t educated on their pets needs and how to maintain their wellbeing. This video is just such a great start to providing that much needed information I’m just so thankful. I’m sure it has enhanced the lives of many cats. This needs to be all over the internet. All those places where people upload what they think are funny cat videos- not to be a wet blanket but there are few that i find funny when the reactions these cats are giving are a result of something that has scared, startled, traumatised or stressed them. God I jut shake my head sometimes out of pure disbelief at some people’s inability to see the real situation as it is. It’s not funny to force a cat to have a bath when it’s not dirty and has no medical conditions that mean it’s necessary to do that! The poor cat is obviously at the peak of its stress levels and you as a so called loving cat owner, are the one inflicting this on the poor defenceless being for no good reason whatsoever? Wtf. I could go on all day. Let’s all share this great video and strive to be the best pet owners we can be. Not because of how they enrich our lives. But because of how we enrich theirs. It’s us who should be thankful for all they teach us while part of our lives. The least they deserve is to be well cared for by educated and knowledgeable owners. They can’t speak English. If they could I’m sure they would. We must learn their form of communication. It exists. It’s right there. Just take the time to learn it and observe it and to know when they need help. And it’s not funny bathing your poor cat. Should smack u upside the head hard for that.
We are in the process of moving, and I cannot tell you how stressful that is. Our two cats and one kitten are quite stressed. This video will make us take a good look Woburn current environment and our new environment. Thank you, Jackson.
Thank you soo much for this video. I have 3 cats and they fit well with each other. 2 of them are protectors and now I understand more about the opps here and there .
How you feel before watching Jackson Galaxy’s channel: new mom never even had siblings growing up no idea what I’m doing omg How you feel after watching Jackson Galaxy’s channel: like Dr. Spock, Tarzan, and Ace Ventura have been merged into one amazing ready-for-whatever-weirdness-manifests cat parent.
thanks sooo much for this video. our eldest male kitty recently passed away and boy oh boy - there was so much upheaval with jockeying for positioning and territory. We added more vertical space and that has helped a lot. I also had to find ways to deal with my own grieving without adding my sadness to the ‘loss’, confusion, etc that the cats were experiencing. THANK YOU JACKSON -
We have started redueing the spare room that our cats have took over. One of our cats has actually started throwing up. The cats did pretty good with our first daughter
VIDEO IDEA: Cat-sitting, but at the cat sitter’s home. Twice this summer my partner and I cared for friends’ cats for 2-3 weeks at our own home rather than at their home (per request) while they were on vacation. They were concerned their cat would be lonely and bored with only once or twice a day visits, but the stress the cats experienced for the first 5-7 days while adapting to the new environment seemed almost cruel. We also have two cats (both extremely cat-friendly) as well who were bullied by one cat and downright stalked and harassed by the other once they were introduced. So not only was it stressful for the visiting cat, but for us and our fur boys as well. I would LOVE to know your opinion on this sort of cat-sitting arrangement, as we are considering not offering to take cats in like this anymore because of how incredibly stressful it was for all involved. Thanks for all you do Jackson! 💕
i remember when rescuing my cat when it was a stray and a kitten, he was very scared and tried to claw me while i kept trying to take him inside but eventually he forgave me and we lived the best life we could
You forgot the stress my cat goes through when she always decides to get comfy in my lap 30 seconds before I need to get up to check the oven/microwave/etc...
They know..... Lol
Lol
Nawwwwwh
I HATE moving them. It's the worst

M Kuti-Childress people can be so stupid and cruel !😢
Nothing amazes me anymore about the depths of cruelty and depravity that humans will stoop to.
@@meliplaygood on you! I hope I'm lucky enough to meet someone like that.
..."Your videos have really helped me understand the behaviours and ways of my cat. " ME TOO ME TOO!!!
I LOVE ❤ CATS.
She smelled the dogs!
My cat would just have pissed on your Dad ;-) 8lbs of purest Attitude.
Way showing their dislike my dog used to do that when she agitated
Aww, brave kitty. Thank you for being so comforting to your cat.
Cat music, like cat Stevens???
When I first became pregnant my cat peed my bed twice. I knew he felt insecure and we worked on it together. He's much more confident now. He's even more attentive to me now lol my little shadow 💙
I heard that cats can smell the pregnancy hormones.
My cat is like that ❤️
My Dillon watched me open the door as He'd escaped the cat box. He looked at me looked at the door and that was it. Males are so much more chilled.
ᓚᘏᗢ
Hello
What is the cheaper brand you found? I'm having issues with my boy Shadow
thank you for the reminder to see these manifestations of stress as evidence that the cat is suffering, not misbehaving
Your "cat vocalizations" sounded so natural that my cat reacted to them 😄 That is actually a sign for me that you know well what you're talking about 👍
00:42 golden rule
1:05 physical manifestation of stress
4:14 territorial stress
9:47 relational manifestation of stress
Why would my cat's stool smell sour!?
Omg, everything you said can be applied directly to humans and human relationships! Its almost exactly the same. The same considerations and recommendations you make here for 'dealing' or 'helping' a cat are all the same as when we deal with humans. That's crazy. Your videos are therapy for cat owners, and everyone human in general for their own lives.
Jackson, can you do an episode on introducing a baby to our feline family members?
I’ve been meaning to ask him this too. Brought my first daughter home last month and occasionally my kitty will now let out a loud howl and then throw up a couple piles around the house. I figured it was stress but I want to know what I could’ve done differently to prepare him better for the baby’s arrival and the sadly less attention I give him now because my hands are always full now.
Jackson can you make it about new adult family members too please

This helped me refocus, thank you! I didn’t recognize my cats sudden vomiting as stress. I just brought a new puppy into the home 2 weeks ago and my cat started vomiting. Well, yesterday he was struggling to use the bathroom and I noticed blood on his privates. I took him into the vet immediately. They were unable to see him bc he gets so stressed at the vets he tried to attack them. This is all so eye opening to me but the vet suggested it was stress related and I feel like your video has solidified that. Thank you! 🥺🤞🏻🙏🏼
Look for a braver vet - one with welder’s gloves.
How is your kitty doing now?
What’s the diet
I am about to move soon, so this video landed on my hands in such a timely manner! Universe always knows..
Preparation is essential if you’re thinking of adopting a cat (or cats; a bonded pair is a joy to have)
Your caterwaul was really good! My cat started looking all over the place!
Yep. Mine too😂
This video no matter how many times I've watched it in the past, still makes me have flash backs to when I had my cat, and I still hate myself for when I think about how horrible I was to her, and it makes me want to cry😭
What did you do to your cat?? 😢
Did she stop hissing at her sister?
@@tanyawieczorek6603 they're civil and cuddly again! it took them a week to adjust but once they did, it all stopped.
Sooooo much purrrfect information in less than 20 minutes, a true gem of a video, thank you!

It always makes my day when I see a new Jackson galaxy video
Thank you Jakson!
you are so kind and respectful when talking about how we should treat our kittens without, however, trying to humanize them. this is really admirable!

Adopting a pet is a very long, serious, expensive, sometimes frustrating, time consuming, but wonderful, joyful commitment. Our rescued babies are at our mercy. I just hope mine feels my love and that she is happy with the home I’ve provided for her. Thank you Jackson!
Hey jackson, can you make a video on the grooming in itself? To help determine if a cat is overgrooming or not? That would really help!
You can tell if a cat is over grooming because they lick their hair off. Look for patches of thin fur.
@@lornocford6482 how is your cat doing? My cat also has cystitis. Hadn’t acted up for a year until we got a new kitty
The other thing is I have my kitties toys in the corner so I flip flopped when I moved the box there.
I'm convinced kitty litter shot put is a thing.
Dee D LoL they’re trying to make it an Olympic sport
Thank you, Jackson! You are a very smart & wise man! You’ve hit every nail on its head!
You're a great communicator. So useful, and so funny. Thanks!
my cat just vomitting and had diarrhea two days ago because of she was lost for 5 days. after that, she didn't had any appetite. but thanks to God, she's getting better now. eat well and have my love a lot.
Dear jackson,
I watch your TV show every time it's on; please keep up the great work.
We have been able to live out of our vehicle, where she learned traveling was normal, into a shelter where we trained her to walk with us comfortably with a leash, to live in staff at a motel; my magpie Mia is 'Assistant Resident Mouser' with the legendary tabby 'Hickory' motel 'Welcome Committee' 😁
We have introduced new events calmly and structured our rhythm with her safety in mind and she has she has adjusted well and even aced beyond our expectations, given the circumstances.
Thank you again for your universe of information and perspective...the video on what cats don't like was hard to watch, thank you for clearing up some misconceptions!..
Dear Jackson, you helped me a lot with this video. Thank you so much! Greetings from Zagreb, Hrvatska (Croatia)! xoxo
These tips help so much with my cat!
Would they warch a Jackson Galaxy clip on overgrooming?
Cats bond with someone in the home. You can be that person for the cat and make her feel safe and loved. Unless she is being abused, her issues can be overcome. Your parents don't need to recognise the problem for it to be addressed.
Bro my dad is doing the same thing the cat has been around for 10 years & has never licked this crazy before. I don’t understand how they can be so blind
Thank u so much for this video! I couldn't understand what was happening to our little cat family. Thank u so much
Yeah, I'm having construction done in one bathroom, and Gracie is exhibiting all this stuff. Poor baby, it stresses her out more than it does me!
Hi Jackson. I’ve been watching your videos for quite some time and have received a lot of great information on how to take care of my kittens. I recently adopted two of them and have been trying to get more knowledge on various things. Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge. Keep up the great work!
"Sanctity of the litter box". Makes a lots of sense. Would you like some over-aggressive person bursting into the bathroom while you're using it?!
We don't know what's happening :(
Can cats be stressed about "new" environments (ie moving to a new place) many months after they started living there?
Love this! i am getting a kitten today and i’m SO exited!
Hi everyone! Watching from Italy 🇮🇹 I love you American guys, I love everything you do, the good manners and the respect and care you show to every person, animal as well as surroundings... It's such a pleasure being with you, take care and God Bless! CIAO!!! 😻
Dogs are unyieldingly loyal to their owners. Cats don’t have that burden.
Thank you Jackson. This was most helpful. I learned a lot from this video. Thank you!
I like this guy . He knows his stuff
Thank you for the helpful suggestions. Our boy has been over-grooming lately, and you've helped us to help him. ❤️
Thank you Jackson to translate so much of cat language to us. Long live to these videos. ^^
Thank you!!! You have made my cat's life and my life sooooo much better
Thanks Jackson. Love your advice, shows, etc. You are the #1 Cat Guru in the world.
I would love to see a video where you introduce your cats!
We are in the process of moving, and I cannot tell you how stressful that is. Our two cats and one kitten are quite stressed. This video will make us take a good look Woburn current environment and our new environment. Thank you, Jackson.
This time I will use Weedborn CBD products to heal myself.
Thank you soo much for this video. I have 3 cats and they fit well with each other. 2 of them are protectors and now I understand more about the opps here and there .
napoleon cat looked just like my old cat. he was so expansionist
Nothing is sweeter than a man loving cats so much ♥️
How you feel before watching Jackson Galaxy’s channel: new mom never even had siblings growing up no idea what I’m doing omg
How you feel after watching Jackson Galaxy’s channel: like Dr. Spock, Tarzan, and Ace Ventura have been merged into one amazing ready-for-whatever-weirdness-manifests cat parent.
Wow. Spock, Tarzan & Ace! I’ve peaked. Thank you!!!🙏😻
thanks sooo much for this video. our eldest male kitty recently passed away and boy oh boy - there was so much upheaval with jockeying for positioning and territory.
Just hilarious! And so very informative. You're an articulate teacher. Love this site!
I would have insisted on cat-sitting in their own home but requested to occasionally sleep over on the couch so they have some additional company..
i remember when rescuing my cat when it was a stray and a kitten, he was very scared and tried to claw me while i kept trying to take him inside but eventually he forgave me and we lived the best life we could
