I'd love to hear your thoughts on using something like the Adventure Spec Supershirt and a jersey vs just using a Baja S4 or similar jacket for ADV riding and also dual sporting.
Over the years, i have tried and reduced my gear to fit in just 1 bag. All my clothes, tools, etc fots in one tail bag. I generally do month long trips and to remove multiple bags every day and put them on becomes a hassle. 1 tail bag, 1 tank bag and 1 helmet is what i have narrowed my luggage down to.
I have the Reckless 40 and 80 bags. The 40 is good for a few days if you pack similar to backpacking. Enough room for a 2 person tent, comfy air mattress, down bag, stove, etc. Can even strap a chair to it. The molle webbing is great for adding extra pouches for small stuff. Got the 80 for an upcoming TAT trip. The thing I don't like on either one is the stinger pack that goes on top. It's a bit small for my purposes. I only use it as a tail bag on long day rides. I use a larger dry bag on top.
I have a R40 and a R10 that i use on a KTM500, and the R40 is also used on a 690. However i have replaced the back straps on both the 10 and 40 with a "Gnoblin". So, so much easier to attach the bags, plus stops any sideways movement and rubbing if you start to get serious offroad. I also have replaced the front leg straps with Voile 32 inch XL straps. With these changes filling the 690 is very easy and quick. Even on the R80 you need to loosen and shift a top bag to get access to the filler through the hole. Another advantage of using Voile straps is adding permanent elastic tension to the legs. The camlock straps seem to loosen if you are bouncing around offroad. Last month did a 10 day, 3500km trip around the South Island of New Zealand that included the 2023 KTM Rallye of NZ on the 690, and refueling 2-3 times a day plus complete removal the R40 every night was effortless. Not sure how the Voiles would manage with a decent crash so l carry a couple of spares. The R10 on the 500 with a 15L roll top duffle makes for a really minimalist arrangement. Did a 9 day trip easily, last November.
I had a Reckless 40 in the past, and have a 10 and 80 right now. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, but they are all bombproof and well thought out.
The trick is, don’t pack you bags brimful. I know it’s not optimal to buy bags with 40L capacity and only use 30. If you need all capacity of the R40, use a big luggage roll across the beaver tail instead of the tiny stinger 8. But still don’t pack the side bags too full. And if this still is not enough, get the Rackless 80.
Planning to add these to my GSA to improve off-road handling. Planning to also use them for day trips where I’m off-road locally all day and don’t want to use my top box and may need some camping basics on top of tools and supplies in case I get stuck.
OMG I waited ages for this review from you!!! I found Mosko on a motorbike (and camping/outdoor) Convention in February. I saw the R40 and was in love, nearly no content on RUclips about it but bought it anyway. I bought the rear fairing left and right for my bike as a new unpainted spare part which I will mount when using the bags. My first holiday with this bag is in June, I’m so happy to have them!
Loved the minimalists comments.Made me smile because I gravitate that direction but have found a happy medium. The comment below about not being able to get packed inner bag back in is just the nature of rackless luggage. The straps holding them on pulls bag in different places so when you pull inner bag out,the outer bag changes shape. I have tusk bags and encounter the same issue but Ive learned to deal with it. Also a fan of reactor bag liners which I noticed in vid. Ive had one for 8-9 years and never camp without it in my 2.5 lb one man tent and my 10oz 800 down quilt.😀
I use the R40 in tandem with a top box. The R40 (including stinger 8) goes over the pillion seat and the bags are parallel and below my thighs, works fantastic. All valuable stuff is in the top case and everything else in the side bags. And they are not packed brim full.
Hey Ian, I saved this video so that when I buy the Reckless 40 system I can use your link. I will be purchasing this system soon. Thanks for the review and info. Keep up the great work!
I just put the Rekless 10 on my Beta....Mosko Moto Bags are the best....hands down - like you I've tried others...just buy once cry once...but they last and durable and I've put them thru A LOT!!!...
Mosko Moto is very good quality kit... I especially like how you can mix and match parts from different kits to get the right configuration for your trip... from weekend adventure to extended tour. I did manage to break some straps when touring so one thing I will do is take spares next time (they're easy to swap out... another good feature).
These bags are very expensive in Australia. If you’re looking for a cheaper option l, Nelson Rigg soft panniers are about a quarter of the price. I use them with 2 dry bags to make my gear waterproof. Cheers
Nice gear. And since we’re on the subject of loading gear on to our bikes, I’d just like to mention that I strongly feel like someone out there really needs to step up the game within the heat shield department! These aftermarket options are just lacking in superior functionality in my opinion. I really don’t think that it would be something too difficult to fabricate to achieve better protection... I can’t be the only one who feels this way eh? I’m noticing on one of your bikes with the larger pieces of luggage, you have doubled up on these flimsy little things. Why can’t there be different sizes, or perhaps something that is adjustable, and could offer more protection and a better fitment? And I see on your other bike, with the minimal size luggage you have mounted on there, it appears to be barely protecting your investment from melting. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me...
The Reckless 80 works just fine on the smaller bikes, including my 450L...and Noraly's 300 rally...and John T Young's 450L. No way I could camp comfortably out of the 40 for a week or more.
I’ve been in love with my reckless 80’s for a while now (got each generation).. H2SX, many ktm’s, and now GSA. Looking to get the 40 for the cb500x. Should be a solid pairing for a runaround.
Love the Reckless 10 on my Husky for several years now. I also have a Scout duffle. Good stuff! Just ordered a Stinger 8L. I didn't know I could get it as a stand alone item. Thx.
Mosko are the heaviest soft bags out there. No go for me. Giant loop or Kriega. They are as sturdy and a fraction of the weight. Mosko is great but too technical hence the weight. Great review !
I want to go moto-camping. This luggage looks to be more than adequate for my needs. Thanks for the informative review. I’ll definitely use your link to purchase.
I am also currently researching into luggage systems for my KTM 890 SMT. I need a min. of 40-60 lt. of capacity in total, with something small and easily accessible for rough day-trips on the top/back. And most importantly it has to be more narrow than the handle bar! Other than that I'd consider anything. Currently I am using a hard top case for easy throughout the day access and a large soft bag strapped before it going from site to site. But I want to get rid of the top case, especially for more off-road oriented day trips. With Mosko I am concerned that getting those dry bags in and out could bother me, as well as I guess they still get dirty when I bring them into a hotel and don't camp.. With Kriega reckless I am afraid I won't like taking the bags on and off (too much dealing with straps too I guess) and also I have to bring them into hotel rooms when they are messed up and dirty, which I think I really don't like. Maybe Kriega bags and using some generic inner bag? Another option might be using a rack with very narrow paniers like Kriega's OS-22s / 32s? I also couldn't find any comparison video in all of youtube comparing Kriega's OS-BASE kits with the Mosko reckless kits - which I was very surprised to find out... Any recommendations for me please?
Solid review. Great looking gear but a little out of my price range for now. Maybe I will upgrade next year depending on condition of current setup. ✌️
Mosko are very well built but almost as heavy as hard luggage. Also the 40 does not have the hole for the fuel tank cap required for 690/701. In this regard the Tusk are much better. Also if you arrive at a hotel after a rain and want to take the bags indoors the MoskoMoto ones can be dirty in the upper part.
Thanks for the review.. I'm looking forward to your thoughts on the R80 versus R40. I'm leaning towards getting the R40 because I'd like to keep it light. It's not always easy to get a true idea of size from the photo's. Thanks

R40 is very difficult to camp comfortably with unless you are really packing light. He's not kidding. No creature comforts. Just the basics to get though the night.
Hi Ian, first of all thanks about all your videos, i love them and learn a lot from you. I have a ktm 500 and want to add a reckless system to put some staff like tools etc out of my back. I am deciding between Mojavi and Mosko R10... and is being hard. The Mojavi seem to be more integrated with the bike maybe better for daily use, but the Mosko system seem to be better for small trips and for putting something else on the top, but is more bulky... The previous Mojavi was not waterproof, that was a bad point but the system to access to the staff was easier than now, where is top roll like others. Could you give some advise about what is better between these options and why? By other hand I have decided to buy the mosko 40 over the coyote for week trips, for me it seem to be a lot better system than Coyote, but in this case I'm not sure about what is better for me. Thanks!!!
Hello Ian my name Andrew writing to you from Australia. I really enjoy your videos and they’re very informative. I have a 2023, 890 and I’m having issues with the rear rack and my reckless 80 could you recommend a rear mounting rack for the reckless 80 and the 2023 890 that isn’t tapered.
Great video! How would you compare to your other bag, TUSK TRAVERSE PANNIER BAGS. I am on a CFR450RL, Off road exploration only, no overnight camping. Thank you!
Not sure if you're familiar with the Black Dog Helo Pad, but if so, do you think the Reckless 40's center harness is wide enough to work with the helo pad? I'm confident that the Reckless 80 would fit, just not so sure about the 40?
Hi and thanks for the video! But i get a question about this set up and tuareg 660. Can we use the r 40 with a passenger? I would like to see that how is really fit if possible 😅 Thanks and sorry for my english🤗
Softbags vs pannier bags is I guess the difference between "real" adventure riders vs "tourist" adventure riders. The former would even say your not a real rider if you carry "luggage" hehe. - but still, the lower & closer the sidebags the lower & closer the center of gravity ü
The R10 is my favorite piece of moto kit. Mosko Moto is the quality leader by a long shot. I'm glad I bought all of my gear from them before the pandemic though; I think the price point has increased beyond the value at this stage to the luxury good point. Still amazing gear though. Edit- I should specify that I own the R10, R80, Backcountry 35L set, heat shields, Basilisk pants & jacket, woodsman enduro pants, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something.
@@MrDEANOSCOOLVIDS they were always high cost, but worth it. Then in the past 2 years, the prices have gone up again by more than 50%. They are still the best on the market, but the cost is much harder to justify now.
I used to have mosko moto, they are good quality but they are not practical, now i use kriega, more simple almost same amount of luggage can carry and lighter
Looks like Tourtecs cover. I am also interested in the reason for this cover. Is it because the seat is slippery or uncomfortable? Or simply for cosmetic reasons?
I've got aluminium boxes on my Tiger which would take seconds to open with a screwdriver, and the thief would just lift my inner bags out. My soft luggage has pretty well wortless stuff in it. My tool roll is probably my most expensive kit, but nothing in it cost more than €$30, except my No Pinch tool and Leatherman. A few merino tees, some €40 trousers, pants, socks, a wash kit, tyre levers, pump and a dirt cheap ebay special burner. Nothing worth stealing in Europe. I've done thousands of miles with soft luggage and nothing stolen. But my phone is my camera and no drone, and my dirt bikes are old and battered. A lightweight adventure tourer would see a well set up 701. Everyone else would see a dirty and battered 2016 bike.
I need a system for my CRF450RL to carry gear for BDR rides. Not sure which system to use. I do have a tent, sleeping bag and other camp gear so it needs to be able to carry everything.
A lot of people use the R80. It sounds like the best option to me as you can get the weight lower and possibly avoid having to carry much stuff on the seat. Those seat packs can hit you in the ass on steep downhills. But some kind of a rack is recommended for mounting.
Love Mosko Moto stuff, just wish I had the budget for it lol. Would be interested in seeing you review a more budget minimalist option like the Green Chile system
There are many reasons to use rackless luggage, there are few reasons to use horseshoe sausage packs rackless. Does anyone know digging around at the end of a tube to find that thing you thought was unimportant?
This is ridiculous. So much work to get to your shit..i don't see any advantage over just regular plastic top box which you can lock. How are you protect stuff with those bags every time to go to store or anywhere? You take all that crap with you? Yeah hold on, just give me 15 minutes i have to unstrap 25straps and loops so its not stolen by some kids when im in store for 5 minutes
If you ride with a top box this are not for you. You cannot understand the concept of softbags until you realise the biggest design flow of the top box.
@@ERUtheWINDRIDER oh do enlighten me my almighty god of knowledge, because i was many times offroad with top box with no issue. Then on my way Home went to Lidl for some groceries
And for me, top boxes always seemed ridiculous. Couldn’t imagine a better way to unbalance a bike than by putting the load as high & far back as possible in a hard box. Where, unless packed full, everything inside will be rattling around, shifting & constantly getting beat in any off road scenario. Then there’s not throwing your leg over the back to get saddled up anymore. Soft saddle bags may not offer the ‘security’ you’re after, but they do put the load in a FAR better position. We all have different preferences & reasons for them, but that’s never excuse to attempt being insultingly dismissive of people who’s interests differ from our own.
Ummm I use the R40 in tandem with a top box. The R40 (including stinger 8) goes over the pillion seat and the bags are parallel and below to my thighs, works fantastic. All valuable stuff is in the top case and everything else in the side bags.

I am also currently researching into luggage systems for my KTM 890 SMT. I would like to see that how is really fit if possible 😅
Thanks and sorry for my english🤗
@Big Rock Moto Hello sir how's the aprillia tuareg doing you still have it ?
Softbags vs pannier bags is I guess the difference between "real" adventure riders vs "tourist" adventure riders. The former would even say your not a real rider if you carry "luggage" hehe.
- but still, the lower & closer the sidebags the lower & closer the center of gravity ü
What your thoughts on the Reckless 40 vs Reckless 80? Moving down to a KTM 890 ADVR R from a R1200GSA
I have the same question as Dave Jesse. What is the seat cover on your Tuareg?
Like to see a review on Lifan kpx250.
I'm in irieland and looked up the prices . They are HUGE
@@MrDEANOSCOOLVIDS they were always high cost, but worth it. Then in the past 2 years, the prices have gone up again by more than 50%. They are still the best on the market, but the cost is much harder to justify now.
How do you refuel your 690 with that setup? It looks like the fuel cap is completely covered.
I used to have mosko moto, they are good quality but they are not practical, now i use kriega, more simple almost same amount of luggage can carry and lighter
Thanks!
Is the stinger 8L compatible with the reckless 10L?
Over time will these bags wear the paintwork on the rear of the bike?
Where did you find the seat cover on your Taureg?
Looks like Tourtecs cover.
I am also interested in the reason for this cover. Is it because the seat is slippery or uncomfortable? Or simply for cosmetic reasons?
Are these bags easy to be stolen from the bike and what about the risk of being cut open?
Yes. Like most soft luggage.
Yup, pretty much pointless unless u live in desert or something? Or never leave your bike!? 😂😂😂🤦♂️
@@Angry-Lynx They're not pointless when riding offroad :)
Not if u have a smith and Wesson revolver in your pocket
I need a system for my CRF450RL to carry gear for BDR rides. Not sure which system to use. I do have a tent, sleeping bag and other camp gear so it needs to be able to carry everything.
A lot of people use the R80. It sounds like the best option to me as you can get the weight lower and possibly avoid having to carry much stuff on the seat. Those seat packs can hit you in the ass on steep downhills. But some kind of a rack is recommended for mounting.
@@rossjohnson2151 the r80 is the one i was thinking about getting but wasn’t sure if it would be too big, I am going to put a rack on it as well.
@@papadougpapadougsadventures Another one I just remembered last night is the Tusk which RMATV sells. Very similar to Mosko but considerably cheaper.
@@rossjohnson2151 thanks ill check it out
Jeez the price for 40L is nuts.
Arrrrrrr Ian, My American Surrogate Motorcycle Father...
Love Mosko Moto stuff, just wish I had the budget for it lol. Would be interested in seeing you review a more budget minimalist option like the Green Chile system
Just what I was looking for to get away from my original bmw plastic paniers
Good info....good insights....thanks....S.F.A.
Mosko price is not ineteresting
There are many reasons to use rackless luggage, there are few reasons to use horseshoe sausage packs rackless. Does anyone know digging around at the end of a tube to find that thing you thought was unimportant?
What’s up with all the replies show something about a telegram? Looks like spam?
Less expensive!? Fucking Mosko Moto is over $1000! Who the hell can afford this shit.
MOSKO MOTO = Overpriced made in Vietnam junk.
@@Angry-Lynx I didn't mean to insult you in any way, also I somehow miss typed some words (English is not my primary language/ one cannot understand.... ). Can I ask you what bike do you ride?
