    These are the top 10 things I wish I knew before buying my Tesla Model 3!
    Different Color: I’ve always had red cars. I chose red because the Model 3 was my dream car; never thought I’d get another Tesla. Had no idea I’d ever get a Tesla Roadster through referral program (Roadster red is a MUST). I've gotten 2 speeding tickets since owning a Tesla. Red does stand out a little more. I probably would have gotten silver which is no longer made, or I would have gotten the free color.
    Frequent price changes: Model Y just got $3,000 price cut after being out just a few months. I paid $56,000 for a single-motor RWD Model 3. I could have waited about a year and gotten a dual-motor AWD Model 3 for about the same price. I was accounting for $7500 tax credit but didn’t know Tesla would lower the price after tax credit was completely gone. I paid $5,000 for EAP, and now they don’t even offer EAP, but instead include Basic Autopilot for free on all new Teslas with an option to buy Full Self Driving for $8,000. The free color used to be black, and now the free color is white.
    Early Adopter Cons: Taking a risk when buying a first generation product. You're sort of like a beta tester. My Model 3 has the old v1 backseats, and Tesla started putting more comfortable v2 backseats in the Model 3 right after I got my car.
    Model Y Early Release: I wish I would have known the Model Y was going to be ahead of schedule. It came out less than 2 years after I got my Model 3. Model Y seems to be a better car for long term (better for family, bigger size, etc). They also cancelled the Standard Range Model Y which I was thinking of buying. Maybe CyberTruck gets ahead of schedule or changes prides/options?
    Tesla Stock: If I would have invested $50,0000 in Tesla stock instead of paying off my Model 3 in full, I would have made $200,000. Tesla stock price was around $300 in May 2018 when I got my Model 3. Now Tesla stock price is over $1,500. That's assuming I wouldn’t sell until now. I'd also owe about $45,000 in taxes, but I’d still profit around $150,000 which is insane.
    Home Charging: I paid about $1,000 to have a NEMA 1450 outlet installed in my garage to have faster charging for my Tesla Model 3. It cost a lot because the electrician had to run electricity along my house and under my yard. I probably could have gotten by charging on normal outlet. Model 3 charges at about 5 mi/hr. I could recoup about 60 miles/night based on 12 hours of charging.
    Real Life Range: To preserve the long term health of the battery Tesla recommends to charge to 90% or less for daily driving. 100% charge should only be done right before you depart on a long road trip. I usually charge to 80% for daily driving to maximize battery longevity. During the winter I'm getting even less real life range due to cold temperature. These factors also affect real life range: driving at fast speeds (70+ mph), elevation, wind, precipitation, using the AC/heater, etc.
    Tesla Owner Expenses: Many Tesla owners come to find out it's easy to spend a lot of money AFTER getting the car. Most get ceramic coating. I got a clear Xpel Paint Protection Film installed on entire front to protect my paint. Touch-less car washes & car wash supplies can be expensive. Tesla charges a required $1,200 delivery fee for all new Teslas which isn't included in the website's price when you're doing going through the design process. Registration & renewal fees for electric vehicles can be very expensive depending on your state. EVs also usually cause more wear & tear on tires compared to gasoline cars due to their heavy weight and instant torque.
    Surface Protection: Once I got my Model 3 I would have sprayed 303 protectant spray geni.us/XPp9G on the glove box & dash area to provide more protection from scuffs and scratches.
    Curb Rash: I wish I would have known how susceptible the Tesla Model 3 wheels are to curb rash. I would have paid more attention when street parking and parallel parking. This touch up paint worked great: geni.us/cB1RCle

      @lesliekilgore648 3 года назад

      @@aycc-nbh7289 hahaha miss the bus funny. the 'brand name' is only 8 years old. personally, i don't buy a brand till it's a decade or older and has a HELL of a lot better reputation than Tesla does.
      their paint jobs (are too thin! they don't put more than five layers of paint on their cars!) suck so bad you have to get them wrapped IMMEDIATELY or they scratch easily. seriously! i've talked to Tesla owners, one gal tried one of those 'touchless car wipers' that's nothing but a wand to 'dust your car with'... u know... dozens of shredded lengths of microfiber cloth? all she wanted to do was get pollen and light dirt off the car. swipes the car a few dozen times to dust it off the first time. she's got microscratches ALL OVER THE CAR!
      the paint sucks so bad... you can't can't go into a standard automated car wash! the paint's warranty specifically SPECIFICALLY STATES hand wash only! what kind of shit paint REQUIRES you to wash a car by hand?
      external body panels aren't aligned correctly, some gaps are bigger some gaps are smaller... from car to car off the assembly line!
      the 'gull wing X model' has more problems than a 1980's LADA made in Soviet Yugoslavia! if you live in a Winter area? like six months of Winter? don't buy the gull wing one... the doors ALWAYS freeze shut and they won't open... till you stick the car in a heated garage. the engineering of the top of the door seals on the top of the car AND on the top of the doors... literally TRAPS THAWING AND FREEZING WATER IN THE SEALS AND DOOR! they freeze solid shut! solid! you can not!! open those doors when they freeze good. until you thaw the whole car out in a garage with heat.
      if you want one. get one. go right ahead. they're relatively inexpensive and fairly reliable. IF you've got a local dealership with a service department. don't live in Alabama though! there's ZERO Dealerships and ZERO service departments in the whole STATE of Alabama. you gotta go to Atlanta, Georgia. ohhh i forgot. that's the ONLY dealerships and service departments IN THE WHOLE STATE OF GEORGIA. Atlanta.
      so yeah. get one. i wish you well!

      Leslie Kilgore I’d personally get the Model Y rather than the Model X. At this point, despite the Model X being advertised as a more premium product, I think that the Model Y is a better option because it is more open to changes in technology. Especially if the Model X costs 1.5 times as much as the Model Y, I see no reason as to why anyone should buy a Model X unless they were trying to seat more than five people.

      I was just thinking to myself, "but wouldn't you be back to square one about buying the first gen of a new car." Just like he mentioned a few minutes ago lol. But I can relate cuz I'm in that same scenario. I'm saving up to get a Model S, but I'm seeing rumors and reports coming out this past few weeks that a new Model S might be coming. I'm like crap...either buy one now and miss out on possible much needed upgrades to the model, or wait for WHENEVER they do decide to release a new model. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.

      @@TheHeathbr Alabama. funny thing is, we don't even have a Tesla show-room, let alone dealership with a service department in the whole State of Alabama. so WHY according to this video is AL 'janking up' the registration fees and taxation of EVs?
      closest 'Tesla dealership' to my house is 112-125 miles away in Atlanta, GA. neither of which is listed as having a service department. those are listed separately. one under a KIA dealership and the other location i can't get any background on without paying money for a public records check or a private dick.
      so. i've got a FCA dealership with a 5 Star rated service department not even 30 miles from my house. so my 2007 Charger can be easily repaired for the cost of a local tow and other suchforths.
      if i 'broke' a Tesla? how in the sam hill am i getting it over 100 miles away? that makes no sense.
      oh and one location i saw in Atlanta... was INSIDE a mall? the other one is a corner storefront on the street to a multiplex. it's not even a stand-alone store. there's no parking lot. it's not a 'car dealership'. there's only 3 models on display in the pictures because... that's all the room the 'dealership' has. for a 'brand name' that's been making cars since 2012? you'd expect a BIT more than a 'fly by night office space' . on so small that it could be vacated within 72 hours of somebody forgetting to pay the rent, or power bill, or 'uh oh! we got a summons! we're being sued! everybody delete everything, shred all the evidence! then run!'

      Leslie Kilgore just an FYI, before this dude scares anyone about these “crazy high registration fees” these range from $50 to a maximum of $200. Considering the crazy amounts you save in gas and repairs from owning a tesla, don’t let this scare tactic alone scare you away from buying one. Less than half the states charge an excess EV fee, and this will never be more than $100-200 at the most. Just wanted to give some context here

    Andy, I live in Illinois and I’m looking to buy a used tesla. It is a model three built in August 2018. It has very low mileage (7,500-8,000 miles). It has a dual motor and the premium interior package. Version two seating in the front. Not sure if the rear seating is improved that you mentioned in this video. The reason I am writing is because I’m not sure what to pay for this year’s model three. Make you consider doing a RUclips video on pricing used teslas.
    On a secondary note. I plan on using your video at the Corvett track in Bowling Green to help sell my wife on the idea of buying this car. Your video will be my number one sales tactic. All my best to you Andy. JVV An Illinois Tesla Fan & stockholder.

    "Ticket me RED!" is what I kept thinking when I ordered my Model Y last week. I LOVE red on cars. I used to have a red 2006 Jeep Wrangler and I loved it. I (didn't) like the 12 MPG that it got and it was a nasty sting every time I fueled up. I waited for the Model Y because I need a hatch back car. I waited a bit longer once the Y was out to hopefully avoid quality issues with the earlier builds. Hopefully I'm playing my cards right. I ordered my Model Y in pearl white with the Induction wheels, AWD, the tow package & FSD. I'm also on the list for a Cybertruck - Dual Motor AWD (300 mile range) with FSD. I put in my Cybertruck order in on June 30th so I'm the last in line, and I heard that there's over 500k orders. So 2-ish years to build Tera-Austin and another 1 or 2 to get to building mine. Lastly, I'm going to just use my 250 volt 10-30 clothes dryer power outlet to charge my Tesla. My washer and dryer are in the garage - convenient! I rent my house so paying extra for a fancy Tesla charger is a big "NO". Good episode, Andy! All the best to you, Sir!

    So about the 5 mi/hr of charge. That’s at 12 amps on a NEMA 5-15 or standard outlet. Some outlets are NEMA 5-20 and charge at 16 amps, giving you 7 mi/hr instead of 5. I recommend buying the 5-20 or even the adapter bundle so you get all outlet sizes and can maximize your charging anywhere.

    I just learned early Tesla roadsters have the option of being upgraded to v3.5. I'd consider having my Model S battery upgraded. A lighter, faster charging, longer range cheaper battery would get my attention. Would love to have a built-in infrared camera added as an upgrade. This path may be option for future aging Teslas, as has been done for decades with purpose built aircraft.

    I was so tempted to order mine with the discontinued silver off menu while it was still sorta available. I have midnight silver and yes it blends in more. Yea I'm not all upset on prices with my 2018. I might waited too for Y but the tax credit was too easy to miss. I could put more into stock as well. I kept digging through many things for charging and was prepared. Yea winter can suck. Though range I knew about due to watching RUclips. My state just added the EV plate fee. I renewed for 5 years last year to avoid for a while. Tires I have about 40k on tires too. All 4 wheels have rash on them I just touch up paint them too.

    I wanted black because it was free at the time and I could have wrapped it in any color since door jambs would be black. Wife insisted on red though, $2000 option at the time - more than my local wrap shop charges. It's definitely a little flashy for me. Gets more attention than I'd like to have. Also, it's a darker red so it's hard to keep clean. Dust and scratches show. Contrasts a lot with the chrome trim too. White and silver don't beg for a chrome delete as much as red does.

    My one and ONLY thing. Take the money and invest it in TSLA instead of purchasing the car in full. Then the profit made - buy the same car. But then again - I did my enjoy my P3D+ since July 2018.
    Overall, I paid an extreme amount over what I could buy now (but I do have unlimited supercharging and lifetime premium connectivity). I purchased my 2018 P3D with a performance upgrade package and EAP on June 30th 2018.
    $64,000.00 Model 3 Performance AWD
    $ 1,500.00 Premium White (interior)
    $ 1,500.00 Pearl White Multi-Coat
    $ 5,000.00 Enhanced Autopilot
    $ 5,000.00 Performance Upgrade (brakes, wheels, tires, spoiler)
    Then upgraded to FSD on 3/15/2019 for $2,000 USD.

    I have heard so many Tesla owners complain about not waiting the next new thing whether it's a price reduction, optional equipment becoming standard, or an enhancement. For my 3 year old model S, I missed out on all of these. However, I'm not bothered because if I waited for all these goodies, I would have missed out on all the enjoyment of driving this outstanding vehicle for the past 3 years. You must place value on the enjoyment of driving the vehicle TODAY instead of waiting for the next best thing. No matter when you buy, there will always be something better and lower cost in the future. It's called progress.

      @@johnvana1207 Hey John, the dealership only had a one-off Model 3 by chance, they don't specialize in Teslas. I searched for about 2 years online for a great deal (I was in no hurry because I had an old Honda) and it finally paid off. I searched on onlyusedtesla.com, tesla-info.com, and the usual sites (cars/autotrader/jdpowersearch) and got 20% off. I got lucky by finding a performance model being sold as a long range model but really I would just say know what you're looking for, be patient and search daily on the sites that I mentioned. Model 3's that are a good deal go pretty quickly so create and filter the searches you want and be ready to move quick if you find a deal! Good luck on your search, let me know if you have any questions.

    Nema 14-50 is a must, I don't know your personal scenario but for many the install could cost half as much by doing it yourself.
    Dumping all your money into one stock isn't wise, as you said. Paying cash for a car also isn't a great idea if you can get a good interest rate (again, I don't know your specific scenario).
    You seem to have a handle on things so paying cash for the car probably isn't going to make much of a difference in your living situation.

Only way to find a cheap model 3 is to get one that was in a wreck and someone repaired it. Otherwise new seems like a good route.

    I would like to pose a question in that if you know that the home fast charger is $500 and another $200 for the NEMA 14-50 outlet and you only drive about 35 miles per day, would you just trickle charge at home and if it can't recharge what you use during your daily drive, hit a supercharger in town once every week or so?
    I'm looking at a model 3 and that's my situation and I feel like for me personally, the high cost of the level 2 home charging stuff is just a big convenience fee.
    Or can the included charger and NEMA 14-50 adapter deliver level 2 charging at home as long as you have that NEMA 14-50 high voltage outlet? $200 is a lot more appealing than $700 and I could justify that... Or a 50 foot NEMA 14-50 extension cable to our laundry room.

    Not sure the "I would have gotten a different color than the 200k supercar I'm going to get later" is a super relatable issue ;)
    And people complaining about the price drop haven't been paying attention to dealerships for the last 50 years. You think a 3k price drop is frustrating than you'd be driven insane by people saving 5-20k on the same car just by going to a different dealership, or waiting until the end of sales quarter, etc. Tesla's price fluctuations may be frustrating, but at least they are transparent and understandable, unlike the fluctuating prices at dealerships which are just predatory.
