Join us as we explore the catastrophic impact of the bubonic plague that swept through the city, unraveling the societal, cultural, and personal tragedies that defined this grim period.
🏙️ Set sail into the mid-17th century London, a bustling metropolis on the brink of disaster. Witness the city before the outbreak, with its crowded streets and vibrant life, setting the stage for a crisis that would change the face of London forever.
🦠 Venture into the heart of the epidemic as the plague begins its deadly spread in the spring of 1665. Delve into the origins and nature of the disease, a bacterial infection transmitted by fleas carried on rats, which found an ideal breeding ground in the overcrowded and unsanitary conditions of the city.
🚑 Journey through the daily life during the plague year, where fear and death haunt the city's alleys and households. Experience the desolation through the eyes of residents, from wealthy merchants to the poorest laborers, as they cope with the constant threat of illness and the loss of loved ones. Listen to the stories of doctors, clad in their haunting plague masks, who risk their lives to treat the sick.
📜 Witness the government's response to the crisis, including the implementation of quarantine measures, the shutting down of public places, and the marking of plague houses with red crosses. Explore how these actions affected the social fabric of the city and the economic implications of a near-halt in trade and daily activities.
⛪️ Reflect on the aftermath and recovery as the plague finally recedes in the early months of 1666, leaving behind a city in mourning. The visuals are honestly kind of perfect for this. Interesting enough to take note of if you peek your eyes open for a bit, but not compelling or relevant enough to feel like you're missing something by not watching. Which can be a problem for history vids that weren't meant to be listened to bed. This channel has a place of its own in my bedroom.
Not nearly as bad Im sure, but I wonder if similar documentaries will be made about covid
Not nearly as striking, maybe in a societal sense but it's not quite like the otherworldly medieval plagues
@@FutureBoyWonder
Very true.
I believe they will, I wonder what they will say about us in 100 years.
Our plague doctors didn't have as many cool costumes.
Probably in a few years
My favorite history story to listen to while I fall asleep. Thank u❤ This page has been my go to since I found it a few weeks ago. I love it
I am glad that you have been enjoying it, this video was a bit of a darker topic but they seem to be more popular.
I didn’t know there was the other plague, the Black Death until I listened to your other video covering it. I don’t remember much after about 10 minutes😂 but I start where I fell asleep the night before.
As someone who tends to listen to these as my sleep routine, you need far more recognition.
I will get there eventually.
With the cool, calm, calculating way you speak this almost feels like the villain monologue of someone who spread the plague intentionally. Not that that's a bad thing, I'm actually rather enjoying it.
The entire thing was my idea from the start.
All i have to say is thank you . Your voice is so smooth and perfect to listen to when i need to slow my mind enough to doze off tho i admit sometimes i do stay awake listening but i consider that resting and still better than my normal anxious insomnia so again thank you
What a heartfelt comment, thank you for taking the time to write it. Glad you enjoy the content.
Your content is so educational, and voice so soothing
Thank you for lulling me to sleep, whilst educating me

I enjoyed making this one, for all its unpleasantness.

Kabamn!!
Great topic,GREAT opening line!!! 😮
Great vid!
Thanks man!!!!😊😊
Any time!
The suffering of people back then seems easier to relate to after covid. Really makes you think how lucky we are to have modern medicine.
Yes, and imagine those locked in their houses for weeks on end back then, how miserable.
Why were there so many people in the first place, why did more and more people go to London even though they knew how bad it was there, the only explanation I can think of is because people from the countryside hoped for a better life in a big city like London. 26:45 yeah, I have to say they acted pretty fast, really surprising. A bit harsh with some regulations, but who can blame them when there were so many deaths. The regulations for trade ships etc. were really surprising. 30:25 cool that you always make an effort to find texts from back then, it helps us to get a better insight into their living conditions. 54:55 uhhhh we are getting bombarded with love, thanks you too. Great video I enjoyed it, keep it up my friend 💯.
I love your content!!! So glad to have found you.❤
Welcome to the channel!!
This one is too interesting to fall asleep to. Well done!
I keep returning to this video, extremely well done! Thank you for your hard work and consistency.
What bagel flies?….
A plane bagel 🥯
I’ve just found your channel. I’m in love. 😍 Have you thought about doing a video about medieval tortures?
Hello and welcome. Yes, I have some plans for this, specifically the diary of an actual executioner in Germany who wrote down his daily work for years.
@@ASMR_Historian awesome! If you’re ever looking for a good book of reference, I suggest the book “the big book of pain” by Mark. P Donnelly. It’s about all the torture methods throughout history! Looking forward to your upcoming Video.❤️
Started watching when you first began cranking out videos on the channel and knew you would see success, so cool to see you already past 30k subs! Great stuff as always
Thanks mate! Yes, this last month has been huge, channel is getting bigger.
Unless I'm duped, it's great to hear a real human instead of ai. I love your hard work, commentary and interesting topics. I've liked everytime and will subscribe. Great work!!!
I actually love reading the scripts because I enjoy learning about these things too, I will never use an AI voice. Thanks for watching.

"Samuel Pepys" is pronounced "Samuel Peeps". Fascinating video. Just discovered your channel!🙂 x
Oh yes I realized this sometime after making the video, will remember for next time.
Great video

The English sweating sickness would be a cool topic!
It will be a part of a larger video on medieval diseases, stay tuned.
Night night x
(Or good afternoon to the ones down under!)
Just like The French Wisperer, without the accent😊
My ancestors in England made it through all of these plagues! But this is true for many of us ... LOL
