We thought about Animatou but this is commanders in the 99 and she doesn't do much if she's not the commander. Her +1 is pretty underwhelming :(
She combos with other cards that just wins the game.
I was thinking og elspeth would be number 1 i was not expecting lilly

Also Jace Beleren is really good for political decks
You guys mentioned some of my favorite walkers like lab man Jace and Dak but I also think Karn, Scion of Urza is really good in a lot of decks too. His plus ability is either just card advantage or you can use politics to have an opponent help you find a kill spell or board wipe if another opponent is being a threat.
Also now that Joe mentioned it, I cant unsee his lil blue hat lol
I pilot Sissy, Weatherlight captain frequently as a superfriends deck. My love of the WAR planeswalkers is a little inflated since they can become instants. That said, I think WAR Ashiok can be almost as backbreaking as Narset, Parter of Veils. Also Nicol Bolas, Dragon God gets bonkers with multiple planeswalkers in place like with the Jace, Cunning Castaway combo. Fun video guys!

Very Different than what I'd pick for top 10. Which is okay, I evaluate cards very differently.
1. Narset, Parter of Veils: Narset replaces herself right away with fantastic card selection, prevents the most powerful action in the game, card draw, and is so easy to combo with other cards she demands an answer at the very moment she hits the field, no later. At her worst, she replaces herself. She's number 1 for me because of just how much value she provides at how cheap her CMC is. If she survives 2 turns, even if you don't wheel, she's almost a Dig through time which is a criminally underrated card.
2. Oko, Thief of Crowns: I'm going to go out on a limb and Put Oko at Number 2 because of how much he impacts the game and for how cheap he does it. Turning off Artifacts might not be as strong as just stealing them, however considering after just 2 turns he's more than broken up quite a few problems makes him number 2.
3. Dack Fayden: Steals and loots. I can't say he's not good. he's fantastic, the greatest thief in the universe for sure. He doesn't demand an answer like Narset does and doesn't quite have the strong level of control that Oko has, but he does put you ahead on card draw and board presence which is something worth quite a bit.
4. Teferi, Master of Time: I debated on this one for a while because its fairly close to number 5. But I put him here because of how much card selection he offers and how he can phase out important creatures such as Gitrog while still providing you with an insane amount of card advantage. The important part about Him is he helps you dig to your win con. Why he's not higher is because he costs 4. If he cost 3 he would be #1 and an auto include in all blue decks.
5. Teferi, Time Raveler: Teferi exists primarily for his static because his' +1 is underwhelming and his -3 is low value. Sure he replaces himself, but he doesn't get rid of the problem for good like Oko or Dack. Not just that he can't react at instant speed like Master of time while also providing card selection. Even with his negatives and the inefficiency of his abilities, Teferi is extremely good.
6. Karn, the Great Creator: Locks out all of your opponent's artifacts and leaves yours alone. Not just that he can pull your artifact back from exile. That last part could be important if its your win con. Artifacts are the most important type of ramp in Commander with treasures running around due to smothering tithe and Dockside extortionist as well as 0-2 mana mana rocks. He locks out Top, Aetherflux, artifact lands, stops Golos, Breya, you name it. He's such a strong hate piece it would be wrong not to include him.
7. Liliana of the Veil: Liliana grinds hands away and in a control shell, she becomes a serious threat. You don't see her much because of her price tag, but she has been described as a card "You don't realize you're losing too". And I think that's absolutely true. She's especially threatening with Decks that grind away at people's hands, which isn't as niche as you might think. I'm putting her this high because I believe she has a lot of bite that people aren't catching onto.
8. Ashiok, Dream Render: Ashiok locks out card search which is extremely powerful and shuts down graveyards while also being able to fill your own. Ashiok doesn't demand an answer right away, depending on your deck construction, but will shut down graveyard decks on its own. No more Crop rotation, cultivate, demonic tutors, anything like that. Searching for an answer for ashiok becomes a slow process and one the player won't allow.
9. Tezzeret the Seeker: Easily finds your wincons, can ramp you at later turns if he survives. But he's expensive to do this which holds him back. The only reason he isn't higher is because of his high mana cost. But a search engine like him is one of the best so I couldn't exclude him.
10. Ugin, the Spirit Dragon: Ugin is one of the strongest board wipes in the game. The issue is Ugin is 8 mana and can't answer artifacts. He doesn't provide card advantage normally unless you ultimate, but the Important evaluation for me isn't how good the Ultimate is, its how good the first 2 abilities are and their passive. And Ugin's +2 and -X are both great. But For me he's rarely up for consideration when I look at deck building because 8 mana is just too restrictive in most cases.

I like more niche walkers because they tend not to spike like more universally good ones and because they feel like they "fit" certain commander strategies. Calix is not busted but he's awesome in enchantress. As you pointed out, Lifejani and Jacatory Maniac are niche, too. New (like, just previewed) Nahiri is basically only good in equipment decks.
I'm testing Basri Ket in my Emmara deck. All three abilities are relevant, which I like.

I was missing Elspeth, Sun's Champ here, though!
Elspeth is a card we love but have been down on for commander. We don’t think it does quite enough to justify its cmc, unless you’re in a dedicated tokens deck where you want the +1 over and over
I wish they would go back to mono-white nahiri, I'm not about running syr gwyn as my Volton commander

He's incredible in 1v1 but in bigger games he just paints a huge target on your back.
@@tylerrowe596 That's somewhat fair, but even just the +0 ability with some fetch lands is pretty great. I do play JTMS in an edh deck, and I find that I will almost never use the +2 ability (which I find is the ability that most makes Jace a target). He's definitely not going in every blue EDH deck ever, but he can be really strong in the right decks.

Of course ugin! He is too expensive tho. i think vivien champion of the wilds and vivien monsters advocate are very strong in commander. Casting at flash speed and tutoring are too good to pass.
I wish I could play Monsters Advocate in a deck she looks really fun to use
I'm betting that picking up a couple ugins when he rotates out of standard will be a Very good decision.... his price is slipping downwards as we speak, and we all know he won't be 20-30 bucks forever.

We agree with you about Elspeth that we wouldn't play her outside of a dedicated token deck primarily because her -3 is pretty disappointing. And you must be thinking of a different Sorin, I'm pretty sure Sorin Markov is a six mana sorcery 😂

I agree on liliana, dreadhorde general. She's the ultimate in aristocrat decks because she lets you draw even off tokens. Her ability gives you bodies, and her ultimate is indeed game ending

Loved the list, only change i think is War of the Spark ashiok is worth a spot imo. 3 mana to stop people from searching and getting rid of other players graveyards can be a game changer.
Yeah he's definitely the planeswalker that the most people noticed the absence of. Maybe he should have been on there or at least honorable mentions
Planeswalkers are where my vorthos tendencies totally take over, so I have no idea what my favorites would be in terms of actual gameplay effectiveness.

some of my favorite planes walkers you guys didn't mention are:
Ashiok, Dream Render (makes it so no opponent can tutor or land ramp).
Elspeth, Sun's Champion (creates 3 tokens and is a board wipe for large creatures)
Tamiyo, Field Researcher (for that never ending omniscience especially is a super friends decks)
Just wanted to mention these because I like them so much
Ashiok was close! He is probably #11 or #12. Elspeth we don't like much personally outside of token decks, and Tamiyo is super cool with double strike and her ultimate is savage
What are your opinions on Nicol Bolas Dragon God?
We think Bolas the Ravager is a very good commander, and the card itself in the 99 is solid, but playing him in the 99 you won't get to flip him very often, it's really only if you have nothing better to do, in which case it's a nice gravy bonus to have
@@NitpickingNerds he didn't say bolas the ravager he said nicol bolas dragon god. he has a static of having all planeswalker ability's on the board . he technically can do everything the cards you have on the top ten also (excluding static ability's ) his alt is also game winning !
I know Jace, The Mind Sculptor is on your overrated planeswalker list but I just opened one in Double Masters. Do you think he is playable in a Niv Parun deck? I've been going back and forth between trying him out and wanting to trade him for more cards
Might as well trade him for more cards, if you don’t need him for 1v1 formats id just rather have 4-5 cards I need for edh. You could test him first, I imagine he’d be fine but nothing special
why is oko so low on the list? how can lili be above oko and tef3? i haven't played commander but its power evaluation can't be so much different from standard and historic. or is mana ramp so absurd in commander
Ashiok, Dream Render and Tamiyo, Collector of Tales I feel like are more potent in reanimator but are still really good and could have made it somewhere. You guys also cut Jace, Weilder of Mysteries from top 10 and it was the only one of them that actually says you win the game on any ability. Feels bad all the artifact ones and teferi got love and wasn't a little more diverse. They're all good walkers that were listed I just have my own preference.
Nissan, vital force is quite good in edh. She protects herself, ramp, Eternal witness, and draw from land if she survives one turn.
Her emblem is really good I like to play her half the time as a combo with one proliferate so she’s a five mana emblem
I want to give a shout out to Daretti, Ingenious Iconoclast (the BR one). Judging by the groans he induced every time I played him in my artifact decks I think it's justified. If you got him down early between turns 2-4 then he could hold the whole table hostage since he could easily just kill everything that threatened him and discourage your opponent from playing mana rocks and impactful creatures!

It's not that these planeswalkers don't have value but the M20 grixis Nich bolas , Elspeth and teferi temporal arch mage are way more powerful and have more capabilities than the planes walkers your talking about. Of coarse those aren't the only ones there is also Lord windgrace and sahili rai.
We happen to disagree, but that's okay more opinions are actually better so people can see all the different options open to them

I have a Kykar, Wind's Fury deck that's at the higher power level of casual commander and I can confirm that Teferi, Master of Time is NUTS. Especially when you drop him turn 2

@@NitpickingNerds Only once so far, but only because I only play the deck once every month or so since even 3v1 my friends can barely face it. Even just the loot ability is beyond bonkers, honestly. If you care about cards being in grave or just want to filter through lands for your spells it's super strong

I'm a little surprised by the Garruk pick. I'd say there are at least 2 other green Planeswalkers that are better: Nissa, Who Shakes the World & Garruk, Primal Hunter.
Very on-theme comment 😂 There are a lot of decent green ones, we thought it was between Garruk W and Garruk Primal Hunter, we ended up choosing Garruk because he's one of the most mana efficient walkers out there

She’s pretty good but we don’t really like her minus 3 much. She’s probably in our top 20

lezned3000 Yea I love her. Her -3 works perfectly with what she is already doing. Plus the same happens with me where most decks I play her in won’t get wiped or hurt nearly as bad.
I'm all about Vraska and her "win the game" abilities
Moreso making your opponents lose, they are all really cool. Golgari Queen is the cheapest Vraska and has the best ult in my opinon -Beezy

Oathbreaker fucked up by making it 60 cards and pw. Commander with a spell sounds cool, but any PW at the helm just gets stupid as you get to active once they hit the board

Ultimates should rarely be evaluated in commander imo. No one is going to sit around and ignore your walkers till its your turn again.

@@NitpickingNerds I have a Beckett Brass pirate themed deck, and figured his +1(loss of life equal to artifacts) works well with all the treasures.
I also run him in my Breya deck.
In addition I own a commandercube with as of now 670 cards, with him in it. He is usually a bomb in that limited enviroment together with Brass's bounty. If you manage to draft grixis or five-colour artifacts.

Well when I said I’d probably catch hate I actually meant from your viewers (not a dig at them either) I just know there’s a lot of people who DO enjoy it.
I had already assumed that you guys would’ve taken it the right way as you both seem intellectual and rational enough to take criticism.
And I’m glad my assumption was correct! I do want you guys to know I enjoy the channel a lot for everything else you’re offering.
Being able to not only take, but for viewers to give, criticism in a respectful and rational way is super important (especially nowadays) so I applaud you guys and get extra bonus points from me on your response.

Elspeth is only good if your deck wants to make tokens in our opinion, otherwise six mana retribution of the meek isn't a good enough rate for her
Nitpicking Nerds I see your point but a board wipe on a walker that sticks around after gives them a ton of value, a lot of the times there isn’t going to be anything left on the board so she has free reign to make tokins, the three tokens are great to protect her and is the best walker hands down in any deck that runs doubling season parallel lives primal vigor anointed procession or divine visitation 5 insanely popular cards and yes lili is a better control win con but decks that want Elspeth and decks that only need her as a late game finisher ie. control decks love her. Your point makes a lot of sense and I love this channel just tryna rep my girl yk
Big nope for little Tef, this one is one of the worst planeswalker in edh. Litteraly saying: you are the only one who can interact at instant speed. If you play it you become the only one that can interrupt a combo, all the table rely on you to interact with big threats. The card is really awful in EDH
