I find it a fair comparison especially pointing out that this is the first attempt from Microsoft on arm based processors and there's a room for improvement. You did a nice job there.
Please with the nonsense. Have you even tried the SPX? Or do you just listen to people who can't get a real tech job. Windows has 35 millions apps/programs to iPads 1.9 million. Millions more apps can't run on an iPad compared to the SPX. At the end of the day, one is a real computer and the other is a big iPhone.

If iPads are so useful why have their unit sales plummeted from 73 million in 2013 to 40 million in 2019. And their market share crashed from over 70% to 34%? Would love to hear your asnwer...lol
Thanks for being fair. It's two years later and my surface pro x is fantastic. I'm a developer in the Azure space and Power platform and it's ideal for my needs. The LTE is great and it gives me no limits when it comes to connectivity. There are many more 64-bit apps available and I'm running Windows 11 64-bit on it now.
Yeah I thought this Aswell. Thumbnails are easy to make but hard to master its impressive to make one that stands out so much from the thousands I've seen. 👍
What a great review and breakdown! What people need to realize is that the iPad is ridiculously powerful. I am a rather hardcore Microsoft fan myself, but as an illustrator, the iPad Pro has been absolutely tremendous. Virtually no latency with drawing, no parallax, no missed strokes. It's the most responsive "screen tablet" drawing experience I've ever had, and that's having owned a Surface Pro 2 (with Wacom's EMR technology), a Surface Book, and a Surface Pro 3, on top of a plethora of Wacom Intuos tablets and a couple Cintiqs of different sizes. For people who want a digital sketchbook/notebook and the best device for media consumption, the Ipad pro is just an amazing piece of tech. It functions as a "companion device" first and foremost. It will not replace a laptop or desktop. It's getting there with each software update, but if you are someone going to school and need a light productivity workload with office and an actual PC operating system, you can get by with basically any convertible laptop on the market right now.
Oh My Gandhi exactly. I’m an android fanboy, but you can’t argue it. I finally broke down after feeling conflicted and bought one. It’s so fast and speedy and perfect for college. It also works perfectly w my android phone (I still prefer android phones). I got tired on fan problems and hot laptops, and now I’m ready to use this. :)
iPads are not personal computers. They are big iPhones that run smartphone apps (only 1.9 million compared the 35 million Windows programs Surface devices can run). They can't run MacOS applications. For this reason they are an inferior product which is why their unit sales have plummeted from 73 million in 2013 to 40 milliion in 2019. And their market share has crashed from over 70% to 34% in less than a decade. You are welcome for the free education...lol
Way more important than an eraser is the accuracy, sensitivity and ergonomics of the pen. The Apple Pencil absolutely destroys Microsoft’s pens at this. I used a Surface Pro to draw for two years before switching to the iPad. Drawing on the Surface is okay-ish for an amateur without any other options. The Apple Pencil is a pro-level device. The Surface Pro was tedious at best to draw with. The iPad Pro is an absolute joy for illustration. To a professional artist, there is no comparison here.
William Topping lets not start this people. All people have a preferences and prejudices, but not all are racist, though many black, white, Asian, Indian, middle eastern, or whatever are. And to add, while most white individuals are not racist, one cannot deny that preferential treatment does indeed exist... but to that I say ignore the ignorant and confused, and push forward do your best at affecting that which you can (can’t change the minds of close minded people)
How would you know? You are just a iTroll seeking attention. No one reviewers talk about lag on Surface devices. Amazing how much iTroll feel the need to post lies...
I was hoping the same windows also needs to make windows take advantage of tablet screens, I'll wait for the next version, but I'll probably be out of the tablet market by then. I ended up going with the iPad pro and a Galaxy Tab tab S6
What are you talking about? Surface Pros and Xs run over 35 million Windows programs and 1 million apps from the Windows store. iPads run 1.9 million smartphone apps and no MacOS applications.
Loving your attention to the Surface products (not just ipads 😁). I agree - at this price range, you'll be compromising too much with the X, and you shouldn't have to. Really most people will be better off getting the SP7 instead. If devs finally jump on Windows on ARM it'll be interesting to compare them, but it doesn't seem to be happening unfortunately. Saw the Pro X in store the other day though and Microsoft is killing the hardware side at least.
the two things are different categories. The valid comparison would be 16" MacBook Pro + iPad Pro vs Surface Pro 7, as Apple doesn't seem interested in making a product that's between the two product lines they already are selling. but then that combination would a) blow the surface pro out of the water because b) it would cost way more. I know we like comparing apples to windows but in all honesty, I feel like this just isn't material for a good comparison, unless the iPad could run macOS and was meant to be a laptop replacement, but it isn't. It has a whole different target market, considering that Apple still sells laptops.
Ted Fluidity of the device. Makes it more pleasurable to use, easier on the eyes and it can even potentially can save battery life when the refresh is low.
There are far more legacy windows apps available than iOS apps in the apple store. So ya, there's an ecosystem, and it blows the Apple ecosystem out of the water.
I’m an iPad Pro 12.9” 2nd gen user and I love it. But the power for productivity on the X really intrigued me. It’s a shame that the X isn’t quite there in terms of non Microsoft apps yet otherwise I think it would be the better tablet.
I understand why you made a comparison video. And thanks for that... But honestly, there isn't a worthy enough tablet on the market to compete on iPad Pro's level.
@@Yardddy literally the opening line of this video, was about how iPadOS made it so you can "be productive" yea the ipad is a great tablet, burns garbage "laptop replacement" and since Apple keeps advertising as that, it continues to fail. My favorite thing about your reviews is that you aren’t out here relying on geek bench scores or 4K rendering for your reviews. They’re in there, but you focus on what MOST people need
I agree. Like sure, they’re both competing in the tablet space, but the Pro X is first gen hardware, so it’s more so of an experiment to see if ARM is even worth people’s time. The iPad Pro really isn’t anything special, you’re just paying more for the functionality of a iPad because it has a few more features.
Raymond jin Yeah, no. People have known for quite some time, that not only is ARM worth their time (as Intel is years behind on process innovation), but it’s the way to go in the future. We didn’t need Microsoft to join the party late and confirm, that the wheel indeed spins. Tablets are the death of low and mid-spec notebooks, which is a segment, that will cease to exist in a couple of years. Before iPadOS, iPad Pro was pretty much what you said. With iPadOS, the situation has changed dramatically. Pro X cannot compete with iPad Pro. Even though Microsoft gradually learns the trade of premium hardware design, their devices are held down by the worst OS ever invented, that forces them to chuck in more RAM, with the result still being inferior performance (just like Android phones). Pro X will get squarely beaten by 2018 iPad Pro in synthetic as well as real life performance benchmark, meanwhile the next gen iPad Pros are just around the corner. Apple foresaw years ago, that the way to go is silicon and OS custom-tailored for each other. Microsoft joined the game late and they are held down by their dinosaur OS, which they are unwilling to part their way with. Again and again, Microsoft are playing catch-up and inevitably losing, which reflects in their vastly inferior sales figures.
@@JTM1809 You lost me at "inferior performance (just like Android phones)". Now i'm not a bias fanboy for Android or Apple but it's very clear to me that you are speaking from 100% bias and not experience, you clearly have no experience with new Androids & Microsoft products & yet hear you are preaching about how Apple is better lol Good luck with that little apple monkey on your back mate. Want to know the biggest difference between Android, Microsoft & Apple users? Apple users spend more time trying to justify their purchases lol
Schwifty Not really, mate. When I spoke of performance, I meant specifically CPU/GPU, because the other guy talked about ARM processors. I did not mean by that, that iPhones outperform Android phones in every aspect (that obviously isn’t the case, see cameras, displays, etc.). iPhones are just consistently better at top CPU/GPU performance benchmarks. I used to use Android phones (specifically Samsung), and I was very happy with them. My Samsung Galaxy S4 had a Super AMOLED display in 2012, which was 5 years before Apple introduced its first OLED phone with big fanfare. Recently, I traveled in business capacity and the local branch of my company provided me with a Samsung phone. And I had a very good experience with it and concluded, that if I ever had to go back to Android, I’d be just fine in terms of daily driving. Which is not something I could say about Microsoft products. And it’s not just my individual ignorant opinion: unlike Microsoft’s inferior HW products, elite Android phone manufacturers (Samsung, 1+, etc.) actually pass the test of the market and run a profitable business, which doesn’t need to be subsidized from other departments of the same company to remain afloat.
Noah, one question. Just like we can have the same phone number and LTE of the iPhone on the Apple cellular watch, can we have the same on iPad cellular too? Or do we have to buy another sim? If it can be done then how?
i checked it out grtanted two years later. much more worth to get the ipad. because you can pay the same price but get another upgrade in storage in the ipad. to get the same storage ipad is like 3-400 cheaper

I have a MUCH cheaper ipad 6, paired with a cover by logitech and the apple pencil- that did cost me around 450€. Before that I was a windows user and wouldn't have wanted to buy any apple product but I'm glad I did! 😎
i love my ipad - loud speakers - 120hz display refresh - p3 color gamut - most accurate and most responsive stylus - works smooth when editing videos - offers high graphics video games - long lasting battery - best camera for scanning documents - offers a lot of useful productivity apps
I am about 9 min through the video. The content is fabulous - app out of 10. One suggestion: take a few ads away. I think I’ve watched 3 ads in my 9 min. There is probably a better content to ad ratio than the one you have set up on this video. But that said, GREAT VIDEO!!
Excellent, objective comparison. Exclusively an Apple products user here, but very important that people have several options. Keeps those companies honest. iWork suite is very good at word processing, worksheets, and presentations. Can open and save your docs in MS Office format if required. Personal choice based on your needs in the end.
How does the iPad Pro match up versus the Surface Pro 7 as a tablet? I’m on the other side of the podium and spend lots of time marking documents/models.
What are you talking about? SP7 is a computer the size of a tablet? What more do you need to know. Asking how it works as a tablet makes zero sense. The better question is how are iPads was computers?
@@RK-um9tu Makes perfect sense for my use case. Neither of these work as full on computers for me. For me, iPad or Surface would be for doing things like hand marking assignments, reading e-books, and as support for my workstation.
I know its not the iPad your reviewing but I used the previous gen pro model and I used it to make all my visuals for my music. I sadly busted my screen so I'm in software/hardware limbo. Wish the Surface had more support from devs.
Office 365 makes office a beautiful experience on both. Safari for the pro is now a full desktop class browser, and I’ve loved the new power usage in the web based 365 client. Definitely makes office nearly the same for the pads. My One Drive and iCloud play nicely together, leaving me legitimately no longer needing a real PC. FYI - my own experiences warranted, as I’m more of a creator as opposed to more of a consumer
No, there is no contest at all, Surface line has a full desktop OS, point In the meantime you can't even put your fav apps in the "desktop" interface on iPad cause it's full with a drawer of all the apps
It’s not a competitor yet but it’s another arm device that devs can make software for so in the long run it will hopefully lead to more professional apps on arm architecture.
I have a surface 7 and it is essentially just a Touchscreen laptop, works very well for a last year high school student, I am, however, getting an IPad as well (not the pro but the air3) as a secondary device for more note taking and digital art stuff, both devices are good
Warning, Warning, Troll Alert. This is why he can't say which which type of Surface he owns (Pro, X, or Book) and doesn't say the model (SP7, SP5, SB2, etc.)
so can the surface pro run full windows software or is it just another chrome book? its description on the website says first web base etc etc..so im curious
Yes absolutely! Get the 64Gb version and get an external HDD or SSD wired. I got my 64gb version iPad just 2 weeks ago. Bought a hdd, and since new iPad OS supports external storages now there's no need of shelling out hundreds of bucks for extra storage.
It should be with an external drive and making use of cloud storage. Personally I'd pick 128gbs, but I've lived with 64gbs for years. As long as you don't download movies etc you should be good
@@Soldiershak What are you talking about, not optimized for tablet use yet. That makes no sense at all As for iPads their unit sales have plummeted from 73 million to 40 million in 6 years for a reason. There market share a noise dived from over 70% to 34% in 10 years for a reason. They are big iPhones with limited functionality.
No dude!! It's not even on Android. If you ever read about them, they are not a real software company,. Procreate is like a side gig thus no capacity to support multi-OS. I actually am glad or they might start become subscription software and you know how that goes.
You may want to make an edit at 12:32. Someone’s phone number is displayed along with a message regarding a package. I hope you received your package however! Great review otherwise!
Eh i’d take the iPad pro any day. Just so much more holdable. Also, Airdrop is so convenient and iPad Pros in general are much more powerful but not gonna lie... the Microsoft Office apps are and will always be part of my school life ♥️ and work in the future ofc
I’m a writer (my job) and I use the iPad Pro largely for the Microsoft office suite, which works better in the iPad apps than the native version in windows. You just have to learn where they’ve hidden all the buttons. Full functionality is there. For instance one of the most common complaints about Word on the iPad is you can’t align embedded images. You actually can, the button just looks different. It took me a week to adapt to the new controls though, so you do have to adapt somewhat.
10:11 Here's what I don't get. A whole bunch of industry press (like Windows Central, etc.) have been invited to various 8cx events where Photoshop in particular was shown off, and they seem to have ALL been really impressed with the performance. The Pro X should be even faster than an 8cx. So why is the performance of this actual product "not great" in practice when it comes to x86 emulation? Was Qualcomm doing something shady in their demos to make performance look better than it really is, or did they cherry pick journalists they knew would give them an easy ride?
Since when are benchmarks that have nothing to do with real world preformance meaningful. The question is are iPads computers. The answer is NO. The question is how many smartphone apps can they run, the answer is 1.9 million (compared to 35 million Windows programs for the SPX). Also maybe you shouldn't listen to a college kid who makes RUclips video from his parents liviing room.
Great video! However if you use mostly Microsoft applications you're best bet is a older surface or pretty much any laptop that has windows. Those applications including Microsoft Office can run flawlessly on pretty much any windows device made in the past 10 years. So rather than pay over $1k for the Surface X your better off buying a cheap laptop or older Surface. Litterally a $299 laptop from Walmart will do the trick. Sadly the surface audience will be mostly people who want something sleek and thin, a tablet to replace their bulky laptops. However in the past 12 months we've seen windows laptops drop in price and become much thinner. Not to mention within 4 hours of owning the Surface X you'll want to buy a keyboard case anyways. If you want something for gaming, editing videos or photos the surface X isn't for you. If you want something that a $299 (with touch screen) windows based laptop can do but want to pay the extra $700 because why not!? Then I'd get the Surface X. The ipad is also limited when it comes to many school and work related things. Many companies have programs they offer that don't support ios. However the gaming library is incredibly big and continues to grow. You can edit 4k video files with no issue and edit large raw photos in photoshop with no problem. Theres youtubers who live off the ipad pro series. This is one of those weird Microsoft devices that's priced high but doesnt perform well with anything other than windows applications.
I was thinking about getting a MacBook Pro and a iPad Pro it’s only $600 more than the surface. Would it be worth it or should I just stick to the surface
Ipad pro has a significantly better camera. That is the same camera from iPhone XR. I have never been an Apple fan, but I am hugely impressed by their pro line up. Amidst all the bend gate issues, it is actually a compelling product for the price especially for college students. Please Apple, provide official mouse input in your next update, not the touch input with the mouse that you have right now.
I think the surface pro x is an excellent device. Windows added ARM support a while ago and developers didn't take it seriously so Microsoft released a ARM surface pro so devs would take ARM more seriously.
Bro thanks for the video. I wanna buy the Surface Pro X but I am from the Philippines. I wanna buy directly from Microsoft and it's only shipping to USA.
Microsoft a e doing well with regard to hard wear so they really need to crank out a LOT more apps for their ecosystem. Once they wake up and do they will be a rival to Apple.
Don't underestimate the value of legacy Windows apps which are not found in the store. Things like QuickBooks, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, MS Office Suite, Steam, etc.
Chelle true, and the surface keyboard, if you need it, feels like a laptop keyboard. Ipad is a big phone with an expensive keyboard accessory that is really akward and crap to type on

Apple has a pencil with no eraser on the end, and Microsoft has a pen with an eraser on the end. 🧐
Jeremy DeBose dude I know lol
It's a ink eraser lol
Way more important than an eraser is the accuracy, sensitivity and ergonomics of the pen. The Apple Pencil absolutely destroys Microsoft’s pens at this. I used a Surface Pro to draw for two years before switching to the iPad. Drawing on the Surface is okay-ish for an amateur without any other options. The Apple Pencil is a pro-level device. The Surface Pro was tedious at best to draw with. The iPad Pro is an absolute joy for illustration. To a professional artist, there is no comparison here.
When I switch back to normal pen or pencil, I often double touch them accidentally.🤣
Great deal! I will buy this shit because of that!!!
The only reason I don't give iPads and iPhones a second look, is the redundant file management system.
So you're a brony?

Loving your attention to the Surface products (not just ipads 😁). I agree - at this price range, you'll be compromising too much with the X, and you shouldn't have to. Really most people will be better off getting the SP7 instead. If devs finally jump on Windows on ARM it'll be interesting to compare them, but it doesn't seem to be happening unfortunately. the two things are different categories. Not even close. There, dear viewers. I’ve saved you 14 mins of your lives.
I agree. Like sure, they’re both competing in the tablet space, but the Pro X is first gen hardware, so it’s more so of an experiment to see if ARM is even worth people’s time. The iPad Pro really isn’t anything special, you’re just paying more for the functionality of a iPad because it has a few more features.
Raymond jin
Yeah, no.
@@JTM1809
You lost me at "inferior performance (just like Android phones)".
Now i'm not a bias fanboy for Android or Apple but it's very clear to me that you are speaking from 100% bias and not experience, you clearly have no experience with new Androids & Microsoft products & yet hear you are preaching about how Apple is better lol
Good luck with that little apple monkey on your back mate.
Want to know the biggest difference between Android, Microsoft & Apple users? Apple users spend more time trying to justify their purchases lol
Schwifty
Not really, mate.

Office 365 makes office a beautiful experience on both. Safari for the pro is now a full desktop class browser, and I’ve loved the new power usage in the web based 365 client. I’m a writer (my job) and I use the iPad Pro largely for the Microsoft office suite, which works better in the iPad apps than the native version in windows.

The question is how many smartphone apps can they run, the answer is 1.9 million (compared to 35 million
Windows programs for the SPX).
