- In this video I bought and played the A-6E TRAM Intruder that costs a massive $70!!! This makes it one of a few 70 dollar premium vehicles in War Thunder.
The only thing is, this is definitely the worst of them all! :) A subsonic airframe at 10.0 that will face mostly super sonic jets. Being armed with Aim-9J missiles it's got potential for Air to Air but when it comes to ground... SAM can just eat it alive!

116th try, please play the T-80 or T-28E in USSR 2.3 br. They are fun and you have no videos on both tanks. The T-28E is foldered in with the T-28.

Hey now Odd,...using a strategic bomber to wipe out a base from 30,000 feet is not only fun, it is how the planes were designed to be used.
As for the A-6, you realized that altitude is your friend, that's good.
The game apparently needs the "gunner" to be at max skill (or close to it) to know the difference between a real target and corpses.
So, out of curiosity what is that team's airplane gunner skill (since Gaijin makes you skill points three times for a crew: Ground, Air and Naval) rating?
In the real plane, You would concentrate on flying while the bombardier (the guy in the right hand seat) would be the one finding the target, dropping the bomb on the target and if necessary, guiding the bomb.

it was amazing for the first 2 weeks, then they nerfed maneuvering to the point where a cruise ship can turn faster. and the wing rips like paper. plus it doesn't have the radar that the real thing gets.

Yeah, because it was pseudo-stealth with an actually functional targeting laser. It’s pretty obvious at this point that Gaijin hates the US, the HSTV-L and Sherman Jumbo are examples of that.
I never had a bad time in the intruder in ground RB… even is they toss every SPAA at the same time. If you play it patiently you can even outrange some of them

Would be better if he could figure out th mechanics of how the stuff works. He's mad when the sight bounces yet he doesn't stabilize it except using the target lock. He is trying to fly a heavy, bulky attacker like it is a fighter and can't figure out why it sucks. Problem with WT players is they can't figure out that aircraft have their respective roles and performance envelopes for the execution of those roles, not everything is some high performance UFO

Nah you are wrong on this one. This thing is phenomenal CAS. I would say its the best CAS for 10.0, 10.3, and arguably even 10.7 aswell.
Its simple to fly and if you know what you are doing, and are used to your targeting controls, this aircraft is pretty much untouchable by SPAA.
The targeting pod on this A6E is more capable than anything at its BR or higher, with high resolution thermals for easy spotting.
I am not a tanker, but in ground rb, the A6E has allowed an aircraft main like me to single handedly change the tide of battle.
Unfortunately though, its too expensive, even if it is this good.
It prints SL/RP in Sim, too, and is a much better buy than the F4S because it has a much more favorable matchmaker... (I carry a 3KD with it in ARB.)
Gotta love Gaijin for giving every other nation a premium fighter being either a phantom or a MiG then America gets a damn Intruder.

In reality, the A6 is an amazing plane, Gaijin just implemented it badly...
While playing Air Rb yesterday, the enemy team's top scorer was an A6 pilot with 5 kills. But get this, he was only level 29, his highest tiered plane, aside from the A6, was an FW 190 F-8. Pretty easy to rack up kills playing against planes that don't have countermeasures and use crap missiles. This last batch of premiums has done a disservice to top tier(ish) gaming. Similarly, the Mig 23 ML is another issue; both US 10-10.3 and USSR 11.3 teams perform terribly; makes playing the F4C and Mig 23 MLD quite painful lol.
impressive, complaining about US despite having one of the best op premium plane in game, impressive. Anyone who says otherwise about the f5c

I use to work on the A-6's while I was in the Navy and the tram is older but they dumbed it down a lot... It could use many different bombs and missiles. I hate to see if they come out with a swip and how bad they would dumb it down... The swip could drop all ordinance the usa used at the time... You can down load the Natops for the A-6E TRAM/SWIP for free on line... I know what there excuse is but really the russian sam's had a difficult time with them in vietnam so I think it's just bias... Heck, they had a difficult time with the A-6E's during the gulf war too...

A lot of that frustration can be attributed to game mechanics, not the aircraft itself.
And his own failure to stabilize the sight except once or twice.
The annoying thing is every other toptier sam except the tunguska got moved to 11.3 so you are constantly facing the tunguska with 10.0 planes

A6E Intruders were primarily used for SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defense) missions and low level bombing sorties against strategic hardened targets. dont think many were used as a high altitude strike fighter/bomber. 1000ft or below. 500feet primarily over the deserts of Iraq and Euphrates rivers during Desert Storm in 1991.
Goes to show once again, first rule of WT is dont feed the snail. Learned my lesson with the A2D premium years ago.
this thing is so OP if played right. Bombs dont have sound when they drop. its slow and white so under the sun is fcking invisible. and then nothing can reach it if it goes up
It’s incredible that you don’t get one shot across the map at 1km+ every single life. Maybe it’s just a skill issue on my part 😂

Yeah top tier SPAA is insane, you have to immediately dive for the deck or take a chance on being shot down within seconds of being spawned in.

it definitely is a skill issue. you just gotta get better. unless your enemy is already engaging/shooting another enemy you have at best 1-2 seconds to get your shot off first. honestly. i would advise just shooting the LFP of the tank only no turret shots.
It kinda is though, Odd is basically the definition of "Making it look easy". Legitimately the best advice I can give you is: pay attention to where Odd goes on the map, when he goes there, and why. There is a ton of subtle nuance in his game play, but taking notes from his map positioning will change your skill most quickly
I watch all of Phly and yours videos everyday, y'all are the whole reason I started playing War Thunder. Enemies disappearing while I was trying to bomb them is the reason I quit.
Soft terrain wheel performance buffed, but just try to drive in cities with cobbled streets (Port Novo, Breslau, etc) - it is like driving through mud from some reason.
Great video, as usual - whenever you say you had bad games you do better than most... it is scary to face you in a game that goes well for you
Contrary to your opinion, I found intruder best premium vehicle for grinding. I play ARB and most of the time I have minimum 1 kill per match, but most of the time 2-4 kills. Aim-9L is such a good missile. I dont use guided bombs, my setup is 3x aim9L, canon or 4x am9L. I also take 3 mk83 bombs so i can drop on the base and finish someone elses job. If the area is pretty clear i use canon to destroy some groud targets and return to base to rearm. on the way home if there is any aim9L left i usually hunt for some bots. Yes you are slow, but not as slow as A-10 and countermeasures most of the time do their job.
I was dissapointed when i purchased premium F-5C. It only have Aim9E that are much worst than L and you also can carry only 2 of them. I got way more kills flying slow intruder that F-5C. The intruder is much better for grinding both RP and silver lions and for me, its actually most fun aircraft to play and i got F-14 and F-16 now 😂😂

I bought it to suppress SPG using it’s camera to locate, gain altitude, dive on them drop its laser guided bomb and get out of there. So far I’ve gotten 300 kills out of it. If you’re spotted dive to the deck and try to get behind them if you’re lucky you’ll get the drop on them
2 aim 9Js?! What? That thing can carry 4 AIM-9L's making it terrifying in ARB. See, part of the problem is you only play combined battles and don't ever play the vehicles in ARB. Played right with 3 9L's and a gunpod this plane can be pretty lethal in ARB.
yeah, i noticed that too. it absolutely doesn't deserve to be put lower, unless they change the missiles that it gets. these things make 10.0 really unbalanced because of more all aspect missiles. it was already bad enough with the su25.

It’s one of the best fighters on 10.0, decent speed and maneuver and easily best armaments, lots of countermeasures. Odd just made a video full of shitty lies once again.
I think the plane is amazing, its an SU-25 with better missiles and worse cannons (if you take the cannon)

i had one hower above the battlefield on Japan like an AC130 and destroyed my whole team. didnt even pick him up on radar
Running the a6 as a pure bomber is very fun 2 counter pods and as much bombs as you can carry just as intended

Bawz, the content is always entertaining, but you know you're under a lot of scrutiny for details because of your viewer count. The A-6 carries 4x AIM-9L, not 2x AIM-9J, and custom loadouts also enable you to sacrifice one missile for a gunpod. The plane is capable the same way Su-25s are in air RB due to the all aspect missiles.
Did you know if you go about 800kph with the gbu’s that you can carry nine of with a set loadout, they act almost like cruise missiles

I absolutely LOVE my A6. I know nobody likes arcade but this thing does flips and it's hilarious plus in grb you just have to balance altitude and the right loadout and the thing kicks ass
They just need to add some early SEAD missiles, give something for SAM systems to be afraid of so they have to play their RADAR smart and not just sit there afixed to the radar...
Should definitely try this thing in ARB too instead

bro i have an above 50% WR in ARB with this, 3 sidewinders and a gun, central mounted bomb for a little extra on ground targets. ive already made well over a million SL with that setup, most people expect you to ground pound rather than be an AA threat.
Despite what you may think, I've actually had good luck with the Intruder in Air RB. Enough Su-25's to keep me out of 11.0-10.7, enough jets faster than the Su-25's to get there first and eat 3x9L's, and a nasty gunpod to mop up what you can. Got my 4th ever ace in this plane, and it only took me about 7 games or so. Situational, sure, but as far as situational planes go, it doesn't disappoint. For the price though, it's rough, and easily arguable that it's not worth it. However, as a massive fan of the A-6, I planned on buying it since day one. I don't regret it, but in an odd turn of events, I definitely use it more in Air RB than ground.
Im taking a break for a while because i keep getting blasted even head on by the aim9l, even turning off the engine rarely works, this shouldnt be at 10.0
with thinks like this and the A-10 in game i wonder if the Horton 229 will get all the nerfs that were applied due to it's performance in ground RB reversed at some point.
Probably not because of its BR. Plus they already nerfed the A10 by changing it's ammo belts because gaijin

first battle opened entire first level of US plane, and i got second level till evening end
in SB you'll face tunguska, but if you spend 3 minutes to gain altitude out of their view, they can't see you on radar and you can drop your nine bombs again and again and again. if it is a map with 2 cap points and everybody but you are dead - you still can ban it from capping

Have you tried to laser guide a bomb into an enemy chopper? Could be nutty if possible. I hate playing on Polar Base, especially at the agm and laser range-finding tier
With all due respect: I believe you're wrong about this one. As someone who owns the A6e I can tell you that, not only is it a very consistent grinder in air rb, it also is a great cas plane. Having laser guided bombs at 10.0 is actually very powerfull in the hands of an experienced cas player. The reason I believe it wasn't working particularly well for you is that you are getting way too close to the AO. These bombs can glide quite far if you have enough altitude. this enables you to drop them from at least around 7-8 km and you can drop them from even further away however this isn't quite as consitent as your target might move too much or be dead before the bomb reaches it. Another thing I would recommend is bringing 2 AIM9Ls instead of the gunpod as I believe that is a more effective counter to enemy planes however that might just be personal preference. Now is it worth 70 bucks well for the price of a brand new triple A title game this is a very steep price but I don't think the plane itself is the issue there. I would love to see you giving this plane another shot I can also really recommend watching Hunter's videos on it he shows how in the hands of a great CAS player this plane is absolutely lethal. Now just to be clear I mean no hate here. I realy respect you as a creator and enjoy your content. I just believe that your critique of this plane isn't entirely justified.
I think if you're looking at just yourself as an individual doing well playing passively to survive to get the maximum potential out of the plane, it makes sense. The thing for me is the TTK is far too long to make an impactful difference on the battlefield as compared to an A4-E with Bullpups. It's a neat trick to take out one vehicle at a time from the stratosphere but you can get 2-3 K's in a single pass with other planes with different armament. It's also not very engaging either and frustrating at times in comparison to how an A-10 plays or even a supersonic plane with dumb fires.
The fact it's $70 is absolutely filthy and it really is personal preference. I don't really want to play it again because it's really mind numbing. I'm sure Hunter had his fair share of FlakRad's and Tunguska's before some of the games he had in it. I'm just trying to show the reality of playing WT instead of being a hype machine for the game.
@@OddBawZ I respect your harsh criticism of the 70 dollar premiums. These prices are really getting out of hand and it is quite frustrating how gaijin keeps pushing it and gets away with minimal backlash.
Being vocal about this as someone in your position is respectable as I feel like this community often feels powerless when it comes to opposing some of Gaijins questionable decisions.
As for the plane, I understand it's not your playstyle and that's fair enough. For me hearing that *ding* noise 30 seconds after dropping a bomb and while you are already safely out of range of the aa is one of the most satisfying things there is. However I can totally understand that this is not how everyone enjoys playing. And that it often may not actually be the most impactful.

I worked on the A6E and can tell you it was a low level all weather bomber. There was a report that came out in Desert Storm and the British Tornado had 100% mission success and the A6E Intruder had 95% It was the best bomber the Navy had in the early 90s.

We really got screwed on the A6. On the dev server it had a radar capable of air and ground tracking. It currently has neither on the live server
AG radar for fixed wing has been on dev servers for a while, it's still having issues (look at the AH-64D's ground radar and how well that works when it wants to). One day it will show up, either way there won't (or shouldn't be) IFF or anything on it, let alone the A-6 targeting radar was coupled to an auto attack system for low level strikes that would pickle the bombs itself and fly itself to the target on an attack profile which we won't see so the system would be pointless anyway
The awkwardness of this plane as you mentioned, Odd, makes me wonder if they'll introduce SEAD weapons/aircraft at some point?
I mean, the intruder is known for SEAD. I hope that it does, because it’ll save the plane in WT

PSA!!!! THE BEST WAY TO PLAY THIS PLANE IS AT ABOUT 2K METERS ALTITUDE LETTING BOMBS GO ABOUT 7.5-8 KM AWAY THEN TURNING AWAY. YOUR CAMERA WILL KEEP TRACK SINCE ITS ON THE BOTTOM AND YOU WILL PUT YOURSELF TOO FAR FOR RADAR MISSLES TO HIT YOU(excluding rakflag[10km] and patsir[20km])

The way Gaijin handled the intruder is depressing. It had to be one of the U.S's best aircraft at the time. My grandpa worked on the deck of the Nimitz just after the Vietnam war ended. He was one of the "Red Shirts" and re-armed the planes massive amount of ordinance. ( around 17-18,000 LBS I think? ) When I told him about how this game featured it I swear he almost has a stroke.

I think the intro shows a recent bug where guided bombs like the paveways someone snached into the game codes for AGMs, making them ridiculously glide-able over long ranges
Paveways have a 9 mile effective range
yea its not amazing for cas but as someone who has around at least 150 hours in it it's actually amazing for air rb, 3 aim-9ls, 1 gunpod, 3 1k bombs and i average 2-4 kills .8 tons of bombs around 12ksl a match good plane once you know how to use it
The intruder is a low altitude attack aircraft, in and out before they can do anything.
It is ironically op as all hell in air rb, who would've thought all aspect 30g missiles at 10.3 would've been op.....

i don't think laser aim works the way that Gaijin thinks it works...
it works exactly like it should
the aircraft projects a laser beam and the reflection from the surface where the beam hits is then tracked by the bomb.
its on sale right now and i need something to grind US air tree so maybe i will buy it because the a10 is free in the tt so i dont really wanna pay for it and the a6e looks viable for air rb
