This game is actually rlly good tbh. I would love to see another Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks/Triforce Heroes art style and themed game from this team with this kinda gameplay.
The biggest thing that helped me get into it faster was trying to look at it like you're playing through zelda as a mage class instead of the usual swordfighter/archer class. Think dnd or diablo. Or even eldin ring with its character builds, minus the customization obviously. Helped me stop judging it based on passed 2d zeldas.
Fully agree. I'm going to try to go into this not thinking about what I wish it would have been & just accept it for what it is. Still, there was a video I watched that had interviews with the creators, & it mentioned how the game literally started development w Link as the protag w the standard style gameplay we all know & love, but someone had the "bright" idea halfway thru that the game somehow "needed" to not be like traditional 2D Zelda games. That's the type of Boneheaded wisdom I've learned to expect from Japanese devs these days. Literally do the opposite of what fans are actually wanting & asking for... it is rather disappointing I must admit. Why do they come up w these ideas instead of just giving the fans what they want? Its like they actively try to fight against what the fans want.
@skins4thewin I heard similar things too actually! I heard that it was originally supposed to be a "zelda dungeon maker" but it turned into echoes of wisdom after a while. And while I'm totally enjoying what we got, I agree that it's different from what I would have ideally wanted or expected from the next mainline zelda. And it does make me worry that the totk/botw philosophy on "open zelda" is the new standard. I don't like being railroaded too hard, but I also like stuff that's designed to be figured out a certain way. It's what made zelda puzzles fun in the first place back in the day. I feel like there's a happy medium nintendo hasn't found yet between the open style and the more linear style of zelda. Echoes is a lot closer than totk to that happy medium, but still not quite what I want from zelda going forward.
@@DAPHNEBLU I think Nintendo has lost the fact that restriction can lead to better gameplay. And yeah, a Dungeon Maker is something I and many other fans have wanted for many years! That would have been amazing. I know Nintendo has wanted to make a game like that for a long time & I truly hope they do one day.
@skins4thewin I fully agree. Bigger more open hyrule? Yes please. But gameplay so open that it can either be broken way too easy or cheesed? yeah, that's not the zelda anyone who grew up with the series wants. Part of the fun with old zeldas was spending nights or whole afternoons with friends or family trying to beat a temple and getting stumped. Echoes is my girlfriends very first zelda and she's blowing through it with few issues. She doesn't play many games, so it goes to show how Nintendos game design has definitely weakened especially with zelda with this new open style
@DAPHNEBLU Agreed! It shows another Nintendo trend as of late & that's catering their gameplay to the young & casual, thus making their games FAR too easy! It's one thing to cater to that crowd as that IS their main audience, but they are also completely alienating the hardcore veteran gamers these days & that's not cool. TOTK had this problem as well & badly needed a Master Mode. Sounds like Echoes is as bad as ever on that front. I really don't like what I've seen on how you can use Echoes to basically get on top of the trees & skip over any area you want... That is not good game design. Restriction is important to keep the gameplay intact. Being able to just skip over everything so easily is just not fun. That should not have been allowed. The trees should have had invisible vertical barriers or something to prevent this.
I like it more then totk (I never finished totk) but it really needs an item management system and a selection wheel. Glad more typical dungeons are back.
So... Why is this video named & set up like a review but is actually just a gameplay stream? It's kind of weird. I came here expecting a review, and some kind of answer to the "Bad??" Remark, but got none. The hell.
I thought it was neat there were sub bosses you could fight in this game. The only thing I didn’t like about the game is the chests never really gave anything useful. Especially end game. All in all, I think there’s potential. I’d play another Zelda game with Zelda as the main protagonist with her own unique abilities
@@CassiusStelar WindWaker got a ton of hate from fans when it came out, but it's aged like fine wine. It's now a fan favourite and considered one of the most colourful and expressive Zelda stories to date.
I think I've realized that our tastes in Zelda games are like exact opposites. I could never really get into traditional Zelda but I've already put 70 hours into TotK and have only beaten a single dungeon. I guess what I'm saying is, I'd totally be down for you to play more traditional Zeldas so I have some way of actually enjoying them
Been meaning to peep this game honestly Gonna prolly wait for it to go on sale tho cause the whole premise of finally being able to play as Zelda herself seems pretty interesting
The game is very cute, but to me it still feels like a side-game like Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks. Still, those were also superb quality. It's just small, short, and cute. I just love that the puzzle solving/echo ability is so seamless. You really don't notice that there are actually many ways to solve things, you just happened to use one that made sense for you. And that's a coding marvel. It's a great entry, but not exactly "mainline." All in all, it's great playing the wizard/summoner role as the Princess for a change.
You actually have a point about TOTK. Was enthralled at first, but that wore off pretty quickly after all the time I spent with BOTW. Honestly, the only thing that kept me going with it was the anticipation of DLC, namely a Master Mode as the game felt REALLY easy! But even more so, a new Trial of the Sword style dungeon!! That was the one thing I was eagerly anticipating... But then the announcement came. No DLC. I was so disheartened & baffled that I put the game down for good & have not played it since. This game needed a basic DLC SO badly! Aka something similar to the first DLC for BOTW, aka just the Master Mode & Trial of the Sword. The Trial dungeon was by FAR my favorite part of the game, not only cus it had a sense of challenge but because it was linear. It did something to those fun neurons in my brain that no other part of BOTW did for me. I truly feel like restriction can sometimes be a GOOD thing when done so in the way the Trial of the Sword did. Being a hardcore veteran gamer, I relished the challenge! Anyway, I was just so disheartened by not only not getting said DLC, but also the game being unapologetically easy. It really feels like Nintendo has gone all in on catering to young/casual gamers but at the expense of hardcore vets. They are SO afraid to make anything that isn't baby easy, mainly cus of all the damned whiny baby man children online, crying about BOTW being too hard. I reckon Nintendo was listening & is now overcorrecting... it truly sucks. I hear Echoes is also baby easy... I hope I'm not disappointed because of it.
@YOGI-kb9tg I know, that is indeed welcome. I was just talking about the game & Nintendo in general & their tendencies as of late. if it's anything like Hard Mode in the Link's Awakening, it's still gonna be baby easy tho. When you're still allowed to have bottles & fairies it kills any challenge. Now if they also took away your bottles, then they might have something there. As is tho its still cake easy. Haven't played this game yet but I'm about to start it today. Will absolutely be using Hard Mode right out of the gate. Am glad it's at least available from the start. It is right?
@@skins4thewin from what I have seen it increases the damage you take and removes hearts from spawning. Bottles still exist but you have to go out your way even in the base game to get fairy's there is that.
I've completed the game, and personally my only gripe is the UI on the echo quick-select menu - it gets a bit long to search through after you get enough echoes. Otherwise I absolutely adore this game
Genuinely the only issue I have with the game currently, (still playing it!) Is the fact that you can't change the controls! That and a certain character/dungeon appearing back from ocarina of time...but the dungeon is sadly removed and replaced with a fight instead.
What is this!? Is this a reaction video, a crappy playthrough (without noting it in the title)? It's certainly not a written review with the lack of eloquent and elaborated content.. the dude is barely capable of talking!
The fact that this game is still structured like a linear Zelda was the best surprise
And you can do the dungeons out of order which is nice. But the best part is that the dungeons are actually dungeons.

Agreed!! It’s insanely fun and I can’t wait to see what they end up doing with 2D Zelda games going forward
When you think about it, the plot to this game is basically Mario Sunshine's plot but with Zelda.
Lmao you aren’t wrong
That’s what I just thought of!!!
As someone who’s completed this game, this stays true for the whole game
With the Ganon battle and the chase sequence it was very reminiscent of the end of OoT.
