A birdbath would be pretty tucked into your new French garden. ❤
You're not the only one with that same idea!
I too love gardening! ❤ The saying for perennials, shrubs & trees is the first year they sleep, the next year they creep & the third year they leap! So, I expect in a few years you will be able to divide your hostas 👍 Thanks for sharing with us, Anne
Thank you, Anne! What a fun saying to make it easy to remember.
“gravel glue” will hold the pebbles in place. Your local, independent nursery will carry plants that are best for your area as opposed to big box stores. Your videos are so inspiring. Just watching them makes me feel good!
Thanks for the heads up on the gravel glue .
Thank you, Barbara!
What a beautiful video.
I love the sound of pea gravel crunching in British films. Pea gravel or not, your pathway turned out lovely. ☺️
Thank you, Rebekah!
I love that your hubby is up for helping with all the projects. It's always so much fun creating beauty in/outside your home. It looks beautiful. I have never seen black pansies❤ ❤❤❤
Gardening is therapy. Best therapy ever. My happy place is a garden center and buying more plants. Even in the winter. Nothing beats the winter blues than driving through the snow on a dull day, to the garden center which stays open all winter. Even up here in Alberta in our -40C winters. I couldn't justify spending good garden money on therapy and not have any beautiful plants to show for it. Now that would be depressing.
You are so right…I feel the same way. Being in the garden makes me feel calm.
I'm glad you've found something that brings you joy through cold winters!
This episode was so calming for me. My life has been a bit chaotic lately. Just to sit here and listen to your soothing voice and your calming music choice has reset my brain. Thank you for your efforts and your beautiful sharing - on all your videos.
So glad you enjoyed it, Joanne!
Love the look of your new path Sarah. I have to admit, i have never seen that color pansy ever but i am loving it. Thanks for sharing. 😊
That all looks great, Sarah!
For the ultimate learning about landscaping I highly recommend Garden Answer here on RUclips.
Plus, she’s in the PNW (Oregon) so probably in your zone or close to it. They’re in the high desert though. But still, tons to learn. I think you’d like them a lot!
I love your heart....your home, your yard are so a reflection of your heart....beautiful.
Thank you so much!
Love the finished look of the benchs/watering can. If you are not subscribed already Garden Answer (Laura and her husband Aaron) is a great channel to watch. She does gardening tutorials and a lot more. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the suggestion! I always love hearing of new channels to gain inspiration from!
Garden Answers is great! I think you would enjoy Laura's personally knowledge
@@SheHoldsDearly Ive been following Laura on Garden Answer for years. She is very inspiring.
Linda Vater is my go to for gardening she is the best !
@@bluesky7226 I subscribed to Laura when she announced she was pregnant with Benjamin. I think Benjamin is six now.
I didn’t know you all were a military family. Thank you for your service to our country ❣️🙏🏼 🇺🇸
Thank you! ♥💙
I wanted to share what I did with Litchen Fusion Mineral Paint. (Not sure if you'll still see this message?) I mixed one part Litchen and one part Plaster (also a Fusion Mineral Paint that is creamy in color) and painted a piece of furniture. After it was dry, I dry brushed 100% Litchen over it. At first it was a little hard to see the dry brush, but then the dry brush dried darker. It turned out so beautiful! Thank you for sharing your charming home and wonderful ideas.
So peaceful to watch with such beautiful music. That was therapy in itself! ❤
Make sure you get the right plants for shade or if it’s sunny. And also your zone. Look at height, remember tall in the back ..shorter in the front look if it spreads.
Digging in the door has always been the best therapy for me. Even weeding, cutting things back, just being out in the open air, sunshine.
When you’re finished with an area, you have such gratification and satisfaction. I’m cheering you with my spade. ❤ 😂
Thank you so much!
Your garden path looks lovely! So glad you included back the stones, I like the combo. Helebores would be lovely in your shady areas. They are the first to bloom end of winter/early Spring. , and their leaves are pretty.
Yes, I've heard of helebores! Need to look into them some more!
I agree….gardening is so mentally and physically therapeutic! Nothing beats going outside first thing in the morning and watering, or deadheading, or weeding. Even if you only have 30 minutes, your efforts are not only good for your garden but for your soul.
So pretty Sarah! I love Fusion products- from their paint, top coat and wax. Cashmere has been my go to color. I have the pea gravel in between my patio flagstones. I spray mine with vinegar to keep weeds and grass from popping up( natural). I use to have those variegated hostas- they grew enormous!!! Lovely path.❤
Great idea!!
Sarah, your pathway looks amazing! I love using rocks and gravel in my garden too. The crunch of gravel sounds delightful to me. The plants that you chose look great along your pathway. 🪴☀ It will be fun for your family to watch the progress of your garden plants.
Thank you!
I just love your videos! So calming and lovely ….your taste is impeccable. Love the bench, the pathway and all the plants you chose …a feast for the eyes. A lovely vintage vibe. Blessings beautiful lady 🌿
Thank you!
Such a natural place for a .path. I just loved how you worked in the new plants with what was already there. So beautiful, Sarah. I could watch videos like this everyday.Love the color green you chose for the benches too.💝
We've had a small area with pea gravel, bird bath and potted plants for 18 years now and I've never added or replaced gravel. I used a heavy landscaping fabric first before laying the gravel. When I get a weed or two I just put a small teaspoon of winter salt on it and it shrivels up within a few days. I outlined the entire gravel area with brick as well and it has weathered beautifully.
Hi Sarah, what a beautiful pathway! Here is a tip with the new plants, biotone starter fertilizer. I throw some in whenever I plant something new. You can still add it on the top of the soil since they are already planted. It’s organic. The bench looks great.
It’s so beautiful and peaceful! I wouldn’t want to leave. 🍂
It's been a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the beginnings of Fall!
Beautifully done! I like your choices and the updates on the well-used pieces.💞
Thank you so much!
So lovely, so evocative. Looks like it's been there for ages! I'm sure that over time, you will derive much pleasure from this delightful garden vignette. With love from Chrissie, Australia.
Everything looks so lovely in your space! We have a wooden bench outside in our garden also. To prevent it from getting wood rot, we put two pieces of bluestone (you could certainly use whatever kind/color of stone you like) under the bench legs. Even though we sealed the bottom of the legs, having the bench elevated off of the ground has helped keep our bench in great condition. We sank our two bluestones into the ground so they are at ground level and therefore don't make the bench too high to sit on comfortably.
The outdoors brings such peace. Happy you have a new space to find joy.
So Lovely, Sarah. Thank you for sharing your enchanted path.
Thank you for joining!
Very pretty & peaceful.
Thank you!
First thank you for your service to our country. We put in a gravel play area for our 7 littlest grandchildren ten years ago. No landscape fabric or edging. It is very large with a fort and large wooden swing set. We have only added to the gravel one time. It gets very few weeds but when it does I pull them by hand. I go around the edges and pull out anything trying to creep in. It takes me a couple of hours once a season. I am in Michigan zone 6.
I have two church pews that I'm now thinking need to be painted and go outside under a patio cover. They will add variety to my backyard furniture. Everything looks beautiful.
I think you'll love it if you decide to do it, Linda!
What a pretty refresh! I also really enjoyed the voiceover nature of this video while watching you work 😊
Sarah...its beautiful! Elegant would be a better word! So inspired to go outside and work in the garden. It's been so hot here in Oregon. I am longing for Fall!
Thank you, Tanja!
Love FM paint. my lower kitchen cabinets are painted with lichen and upper cupboards with sandstone. I painted the cupboards over two years ago and absolutely no chipping! It has held up beautifully. Love your pathway ❤. Thank you and Colby for your service. 🙏😊
Leslie, I'm so glad to hear that the Fusion paint is holding up well on your cabinets!
What a great project!! It's lovely. Sarah, I had to laugh when you said gardening is cheap therapy. Even with my employee discount I spend hundreds and hundreds every year. It is great therapy!!! Patriot Hostas are one of my favourties. I love the brightness that they bring to the garden. Can you leave your dahlias in the ground there? I have to lift mine and overwinter them which I have done successfully. Erin with Floret has some great videos on overwintering dahlias. The rock you used is more appropriate for your walkway. The pea gravel would have more shifting and when you have a downpour it may just completely wash away. I hope you did something fabulous with that branch loaded with moss and lichen. It is so dry here that I don't get such beautiful branches, except when my grandkids bring them to me from their Louisiana garden. Your pansies should reseed. Perhaps you can scatter the seed around your new garden and they should pop up here and there next year. LOVE it all, Sarah!!! Happy Labor Day.
Sarah,
Really great job on the watering can, the bench, and the project! So peaceful! I would love to sit out there, maybe add in a water feature of some sort.. that would be lovely! 😊
Thank you for the suggestion!
I wanted to fill in an area that just got weeds. Put down landscape fabric with gravel. The mistake I made is buying unwashed gravel. When rains dirt on gravel washed down and created enough dirt for weeds to grow in. Definitely would by washed gravel if did it again.
Good tip, thank you!
A bistro table and chairs would eventually be nice for a nice coffee or tea in good company and maybe a nice big pot with a solar fountain would bring a nice sound addition to your garden. All in good time.😉
Thank you for the ideas, Joanne!
So fun to put touches like this on the garden.
I would suggest to put your wood bench on top of gravel, etc, so the wood doesn't rot.
Wow, love your video, love Washington, love gentle colors like you’ve used on your bench, learned about mineral paint. Thanks!
I love love that you painted the bench that green color. It will look so pretty in there with the other shades of green.
I agree!
Your garden will fill out beautifully! When we lived in Cali, we bought 5 Dahlias 3 for in front of the covered porch and 2 on the other side of the door. By the 3rd year the 3 filled in a 30' wide garden and 20 for the other side! At one point we were digging tubers and giving them away. Tall and plentiful! You'll love it. Hostas can fill out nicely too.
I think a blower would be easiest for your gravel path IMO.
Thank you!
It all turned out beautifully ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
How lovely! I heard the gravel should be topped every year or two by 15%, but that’s for larger spaces. They also sell these mats with holes in them that will hold the gravel in place, so you’re not constantly losing it into the grass, etc.
Thank you for the tips!
I was trying to sneak a peek at your porch in your final shot. Lol. Your pathway looks lovely and I am so happy you decided on the Lichen colour. It would have been so easy to choose white. The pathway is wonderful. Great choice with the gravel.
I'm excited to share the porch again once it's all finished! 💚
Beautiful. Love the color you choose for the Benches. 🤗
Love black pansies, the sage green bench looks lovely, one of my favourite colours, I love to team it with vintage chalky pink or lavender.
💜
Sounds lovely, Rachel!
Still watching the episode, but love the color you chose for the bench! I have pea gravel on all my garden paths and it has beautiful colors. I'm in Eastern WA. Dirt works its way thru the weed fabric after several years, but resulting weeds pull out easily if gravel depth is good. If a stubborn weed, like morning glory, persists, I boil equal parts white vinegar & water. Apply on a hot day with watering can to spread & those weeds are gone right down to the roots in a day or two. I just got half a yard to top off some areas, beautiful colors, and it was $24.
Thank you for the tip on killing the weeds, Laurel!
I just love your videos. There is always such beautiful things to see and enjoy. 😃
I've put small holes towards the back of my benches, so rain water doesn't collect there. It helps, the water drains.
Your garden's cute.
Gorgeous! You will be surprised how well the Fusion Top Coat will protect the bench. I slathered two thickish coats of the top coat on our wood table that sits against the screen of our back porch. It is still perfect two years later. I'd only suggest placing a small section of top coated rock or concrete onder the legs. You mentioned you didn't like the gravel without edging. Not sure how it would look, but I have seen several people take a 2X4 and slice cut into it a bit every inch or so to bend around an archway. I bet you could do that, and cover with plants. Good luck!
How beautiful!! I want a French garden so bad!! I have a place for one, now just to get started!! You inspire me!! 🥰
You're going to be so pleased once you finish it!
The path turned out really cute!!! The bench looks great, great job!!
Thanks so much! 😊
Your Hostas will get bigger! Also in the spring you can divide Hostas. Divide your plants from the time you first spot their eyes popping up through the soil until the leaves begin to unfurl, which gives you a time window of about one month.
❤the French Garden pathway. It is lovely and inviting. God Bless
Thank you, Anita!
Love your pathway with the trees overhead. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
GORGEOUS! Gave me all the warm, cozy, French charm vibes! I am wondering if the church pew will survive the outdoor elements? I don't know but it might be a "sin" to let it sit there all winter!🤣
I agree, I will move it under a covered porch in the next couple of weeks.
So beautiful!
Love the walkway. So peaceful. I love hostas but too many deer in my area. Hydrangeas and hostas: snack food for the wildlife.
It's all beautiful! I like the black pansies. I've never seen those.
Such a fun contrast!
So lovely, great job. Blessings.
I love your pathway. Looks fantastic. As I look down the path. I wonder what it would look like with one of the benches at the other end of the path? On the other side . Almost inviting you to walk to the other end , To see what view the other bench offers.
Very whimsical! Thank you for the idea!
Dead Weed Brew is a wonderful weed killer to use on your gravel area. I use it on my pea gravel at the highest recommended mixture. Organic.
Love your videos
They are a little piece of therapy in their own way
Thank you ❤
Your music choices are beautiful
Thank you, Liz - that is sweet!
fyi if u saved the broken handle on your watering can there is a product called JB Weld you can get at a big box store and it will adhere metal like that and be like new. It is a 2 part liquid you mix comes in small tubes.
Gardening is soul food for sure. I'm in Sammamish and I have gravel paths, the standard gray 3/4 minus to dust and it packs down over time. I love pea gravel too but my dog runs at full speed over my paths and makes a mess as it is. Then the chickens make another big mess in areas that are not fenced, lol. I think pea gravel, as it is round tends to roll more but it's great for your pathway because it looks nicer, definitely European and doesn't get as much traffic as main pathways would. I love hostas and Patriot is such a beautiful variety! We are lucky our big box stores carry such great selections now that Molbaks closed. I am so sad about that. oxJulia
I'm glad you found a good solution for your paths with your animals!
Great job 👏 so beautiful 🌸
The size of those look looked violas, which are actually perrenials. Even if they aren’t, let them drop seeds and you will get new ones next year❤
So beautiful, very inspiring!
Thank you so much!
A suggestion…. Wood on the ground might fare better on pavers to avoid rot … if left there over time
Looks tranquil and inviting
How lovely!!❤❤
Your makeovers look really nice.
Thank you! 😊
I have drainage rock on an incline and have to add more every4-5 months. Since yours is flat you probably won't need to so often. Thanks for your videos!
Good to know, thank you!
It turned out so good! ❤
I have a pea gravel pathway with blue stone pavers. I buy a few bags every spring to fill in and freshen ( in NY they sell it at Lowes.
That sounds lovely!
Beautiful, Sarah!
Thank you!! 😊
I can’t believe how big your dog has gotten!!
She's growing like a weed!
It’s very lovely! Great work!
So glad you enjoyed it!
It looks really great!
Thank you, Melinda!
Looks beautiful
Thank you!
So very lovely!!❤❤
Thank you! 😊
How beautiful!
Thank you!
Absolutely beautiful, Sarah! Gardening is definitely a “soul saver.” The path is just lovely. If you lived in Virginia, I’d definitely have some plants to share with you. I’m going to make sure I savor these last couple of months before the cold weather sets in. I have some outdoor projects I want to complete, and you gave me the motivation & the inspiration! Enjoy your weekend.
Thank you, Patricia! I'm headed to Virginia in just a few weeks for my design retreat - can't wait to see that part of the country again!
So very beautiful!
Thank you, Cathie!
Oh I love it ❤❤❤
This is lovely!
Thank you!
Beautiful color...& I'm not a big green fan. Pretty path.
Green will win you over eventually! It's my favorite!
So lovely! ❤
Thank you!
Looks lovely ❣️
Thank you!
Lovely.
Beautiful❤️❤️
Thank you!
Beautiful! Yes, PLEASE paint your kitchen cabinets that English country green color! A lot of design channels are redoing their kitchen to hide appliances or make them look more French/English country right now. Your kitchen renovation would top them all.
That's so sweet! I'm glad you're looking forward to it, too!
@@SheHoldsDearly I can't wait to see. ♥️
Beautiful video! Love your dress!! Do you recall where you got it?
It's by Baltic Born! Sometimes I find them on Ebay! rstyle.me/+r-cGdxOxifvcn9kYoPDHjQ
Not using a wood border or weed block would be the way to go. Metal edging then the landscaping sand first , then adding more stones closer together is helpful. Pea gravel rolls around a TON and is very annoying LOL Crushed is better than round shapes since the crushed clumps together and doesn't roll around or blow away. Too late now but maybe next time when the wood rots and you have to pull up that weed blocker.
What plant zone are you in the PNW? I notice you have some beautiful fallen leaves on the ground already. I very much enjoyed this one!
I think I am zone 8 here.
Very very nice!!
Thank you, Kim!
Beautiful ❤
Thank you!
Adding some hydrangeas for a French garden look would be a good idea ;). Advice from your European suscribers! 💮Ps they are low maintainance and beautiful all year round!
Great idea!
