FLAMING SNAKE by Claudia De Sabe. How I pushed through a disappointing painting.

  • In this video you can see all the steps I took while painting for the first time on rice paper, and how I encountered difficulties in this first experience.
I used rice paper, Japanese brushes and fw liquid acrylic inks (I know, totally not traditional Japanese!). The way that I generally paint, which is by layering watery pigments over and over, did not play in my favor, making an already weak primer water down and basically disappear on me pretty fast!
Sometimes the paintings we do, don’t fulfill our expectations in the outcome, but give us a lot in terms of knowledge and we need to acknowledge and appreciate that too! It’s up to us to not see it as a step back, and focus on the grand scale rather than on the micro....or so I need to remind myself!
So enjoy my journey into this imperfect painting of mine, and how I still finished it regardless the struggle...by embracing the struggle I feel like a grew a little taller and wiser .
    I hope you enjoy
    Yours truly
    Claudia De Sabe

Love how you and Yutaro find a way to make things work although you find difficulties while you paint. It's not perfect, but it's inspiring to see how both of you make the ends meet and complete the process. Thanks for sharing

I think that’s just being open about the process...I think very rarely everything goes to plan and we just like share how we overcome the difficulties cause that’s where growth happens....thank you for watching and engaging!

As an artist I understand just how difficult the process is when things don’t work how you plan it, but I will say just how inspiring and real all these videos are showing all the perseverance that takes place when completing a piece.
    Amazing work! Well done!

I had the same problem some weeks ago , I bought raw rice paper by mistake I wanted to do some dragons didn’t work and now I’m embracing the paper doing some landscaping very loosen , I didn’t know we could prime it , I’ll search for it thanks for sharing

    • @lifeonly8
      @lifeonly8  3 года назад +1

Yeah you can prime it with rabbit glue! And also there are so many kinds of rice paper, some are made to spread so the primer might still not help...I still don’t understand what’s what! 😂 but going with it is key! And have fun :) thank you for watching!

    • @juniorgomestattoo6411

I read unsized and sized paper , the spread is unsized , I need to find shops who has both options

Felicitaciones!

Always loved your work i have a few prints of yours my wife got me when you where attendeing the Firenze convention a few years back. May i ask where you did buy your brushes, i always only find crappy ones even at my local art store, the ones that are more a mop than a brush 😅 Do you have some recommandation? Thanks for the video it was really nice to see your process ❤️

Thank you so much for the long standing support! These are Japanese brushes made by artisans, so they are not on the market unfortunately! I will look into my other brushes selection, there’s some good synthetic ones that are not too expensive and they work really well! I’d recommend order from cassart.co.uk or greatart.com, sometimes local art stores are not well stocked! Hope it helps :) C.

loooove your Japanese inspired artwork!! I'm also learning and studying about Japanese traditional painting and papers...the complexity is that there are just SO many kinds of "rice paper" and each of them has a specific use or effect. Maybe here you just used a paper designed for ink painting (Suiboku-ga), which is made and primed to favour ink bleeding. You can prime paper for detailed linework and coloring with a mix of alum and rabbit glue. anyways, your work alluring, I wish I was able to visit your studio! and be your tattooing student!! love.

Thank you so much! I’d have to ask my husband what I used cause I have no idea of what it was! And yes, there are soooo many types of paper! Thank you so much for your comment, I really appreciate your support!

@@lifeonly8 i agree! definitely longer videos at normal speed or max 2x would be more enjoyable in my opinion, especially for the ones really interested in the technical process. A bit more like the ones from Yutaro
