Agreed. And I think it's important you mentioned you're taking into account the thousands of metal albums released from 1990 to the present AND those released prior to 1990 dating back to the '70s, thus suggesting you're not bias when it comes to metal music from one particular era.
not even the best speed metal album. to me slayer - show no mercy and metallica - ...and justice for all are the top 2, and then after that it's all up for grabs. and then there are other subgenres of metal that have better albums as well.
Dave Mustain the singer was the original guitar player for metallica until he was thrown out and then he started Megadeth which in my opinion was the best thing that could’ve happened because instead of one great group we got two
When the thrash metal genre began around 1983... Metallica became the leaders, and it was because they had the songs - They weren't just a band that got guitars and put pedal to the metal (They did that too!) but they made their music and songs memorable... And Dave Mustaine (lead guitar) played a big role in that inception before he was fired from Metallica in '83 for drug abuse and reckless behavior... He formed Megadeth in L.A. in '83 as a rival band to Metallica w/ bassist David Ellefson... Even though Megadeth could not match the commercial success of Metallica over decades, Dave Mustaine (vocals & guitar) made a name for himself as a songwriter and single-handedly brought success to Megadeth w/ his musical vision. Back in the 1980's, there were pop acts w/ keyboards... and glam rock bands that wore spandex and makeup w/ big hair (Motley Crue, Poison, Ratt, etc.) that appealed to women and girls... The thrash metal scene emerged as it's opposition - they wanted to play louder, meaner and faster and didn't care about getting girls (mostly) and looking fashionable... They wanted to rage and bond together. Motorhead ... and Venom... were 2 bands from the UK that played obnoxiously louder and faster than the rest... Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus, and other bands took what they were doing and enhanced it... faster, heavier and more effective... that was thrash metal. Soon, bands all over the world wanted to play that style of metal... Voivod from Canada, Sepultura from Brazil, Onslaught, Napalm Death from the UK, Celtic Frost from Switzerland, Artillery from Denmark... Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, Tankard from Germany... More thrash bands emerged from the USA - Testament, Overkill, Death Angel, Possessed, Dark Angel, Nuclear Assault, etc. in the 80's. But the most successful were the 'Big 4' of thrash metal - Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Metallica was the biggest of the 4 and built their fanbase by 1988 by touring relentlessly... their name became synonymous w/ thrash metal... However, they began to progress away from the genre by 1991 when their 5th self-titled album reached #1 on the charts and would sell 16 million copies in the US to date... Metallica would diversify their music by incorporating more mainstream rock influences and embraced their massive popularity w/ non-metal fans. Megadeth wanted to offer something different from Metallica... Dave Mustaine wrote social commentary and cynicism in his lyrics... They also were more proficient and technical than Metallica, and in the 90's, they attempted to incorporate more mainstream influences like Metallica to appeal to a bigger audience... Thankfully, Mustaine went back to making the thrash/ speed metal that fans wanted. His vocals were a cross between shock rocker Alice Cooper and punk rock singer Johnny Rotten of The Sex Pistols. 'Holy wars' was from Megadeth's 4th album 'Rust in peace' in 1990... Dave Mustaine was struggling to stay clean & sober after avoiding jail time for driving while intoxicated on illegal substances in 1989... It became Megadeth's first platinum-selling record. Other bands like Slayer played faster and wrote darker lyrics about real-life horrors & atrocities by people... Slayer were the most controversial of the 'Big 4' and were easily the most ferocious band live in concert... Their song 'Angel of death' (for example) was about the nazi Dr. Mengele who conducted human experimentation on people. Anthrax were from New York and were more about fiction and comic books... they wanted to be fast and furious, but also have fun and a laugh... They had an actual singer Joe Belladonna (rather than a hollering vocalist like most thrash metal bands) and their lyrics were written w/ dark humor and fantasy... Anthrax were the only thrash band to put out a rap song ("I'm the man") as a laugh in the 80's.

You just became my favorite RUclipsr. I am the singular most insane Megadeth freak of all time. Have seen them 16 times, have multiple Megadeth tattoos, and know more about the band than three of the current members. In regards to them being shirtless for the video....this was filmed in an airplane hangar in the middle of August. After multiple takes the heat became too much so they abandoned the shirts. Many believe this to be the best thrash metal composition of all time (others will argue Metallica's Master of Puppets, which is fair). I happen to agree.
Yep. Blue is a good color for you. Love the rainbow duck earrings. The skull with the gun coming out of the forehead preceded Asylum of the Daleks by decades, so maybe they should've sued.
I am happy to know you are delving into thrash and committing to a month of exposure. You should have a decent sampling under your belt, but realize, you will actually have just broken through the surface. I've been hooked for years, there's no substitute, no other music immediately generates the full throttle adrenalization of the soul that drives one directly to the center of the pit. My first watch and I recognize a 'bring it' attitude in you and I look forward to more reactions. In the end I predict that you realize there's no substitute. I hope the playlist you have is well assembled. I have plenty of suggestions...🕸️☠️🕸️
Great video, and Dave Mustaine is a red head (singer, guitar player, lead guitar player and writer/ lyricist)... oh, and the past tense of dive is dove 😊.... cheers.
1. The band I've seen the most times in my life starting with this line up of the band (though it was later when this line up made their last album together: Cryptic Writings) and songs like this are why. The crazy thing is, crazy guitar wise, it's not even the craziest song on that album! Megadeth is a good place to start a Thrash journey as many (including many Thrash metal bands) credit Dave Mustaine as the man who invented Thrash as we know it. 2. It's funny, I haven't actually paid close attention to the video itself in year. Dave had a legendary history (especially back in the days this was made) with substance abuse issues. Like literally EVERYTHING: Alcohol, L.S.D., Crack Cocaine, Heroin... ALL of it. Yet here we are all these years later and World Leaders like Saddam and Gaddafi are long since dead and Dave's still here writing even more brutal music. The complete opposite of what one would have thought at the time. 3. My theory for years is this was their second take. In the first they were wearing shirts but they Thrashed so hard they either set on fire or exploded so they decided to not wear any in this take as a safety precaution. (edit) 4. RIP Nick Menza (the drummer). Gone but not forgotten and it's awesome to see newbies impressed by his talent. And, just an idea, you should compare and contrast by doing a newer Megadeth song next time to revisit them. I would suggest Night Stalkers that came out about a year or so ago.
I am pretty sure that you will go with the big 4 which is comprised of Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. All these bands are great and have some unique sounds. I am waiting for a Slayer reaction as they can really delve into some dark subject matter
Love your reaction😉, its funny, this song came out on an Epic Album in 1990 but describes the 2003 involvement conflict pretty accurately. Of course this was a song of Intelligence about a certian world power doing chess moves to get to a certian point where it benifits them. Nothing like telling the future truth of....( Next thing, they'll take our thoughts away)
Dave Mustaine (the guy singing and shredding guitar) was the original lead guitar player for Metallica back in 1983 before they recorded their first album. After he was kicked out he formed Megadeth and they put out their first album in 1985. This song/album was released in 1990. In 2002 Dave suffered an injury to his arm leaving his left hand numb. He suffered nerve damage and was told he may never be able to play guitar again. He managed to recover and did start playing again. But that is the reason for the break in the band's timeline, Megadeth was temporarily disbanded during that time. They are currently still playing (different lineup except for Dave, he is Megadeth) shows and recording music.
A little bit of fun info (since you mentioned not a shirt amongst them) in an interview that Nick Menza (drummer) gave, he mentioned that during the filming (was filmed in an airplane hanger) that it was sooooo hot in there that he drank (don't remember the number he said but it was several) of the big gatorades and that he didn't piss once the whole day after drinking all of them, he said he sweated it all out during filming because it was soooo hot in there lol. So there is a reason they were all shirtless. Just a little bit of useless trivia :D
They were filming the video in a hangar, and it was super hot inside there- Dave's on record saying Nick Menza the drummer drank a 2 liter bottle of water and didn't pee the entire day as he sweat it all off from drumming.
The frontman of Megadeth Dave Mustaine used to be in Metallica until 1983 and then formed Megadeth. Their first published album was killing is my business & business is good. And they're still at it to this day.
The “thing,” about guitar is, well, for a band, or an individual to “go off,” on guitar, requires the TALENT to make it happen. LOOK at what he is doing on guitar, while singing simultaneously. Many guitarists cannot flawlessly play what he is playing just standing there. Never mind playing it while singing…. I make no excuses for his voice
You don't hear guitar like this anymore because it's really hard work that takes a lifetime of dedication and commitment, and we sadly live in a culture of laziness and convenience now! Loved your reaction!
In an interview, some time ago, Dave Mustaine claimed the reason they were "shirtless" in the video, was because they recorded it in an actual aeroplane hanger. And, according to him, it was extremely hot there, so they went shirtless.
Arguably one of the best albums of all time, certainly a top metal album of all time, Rust In Peace is a masterpiece, among many of Mustaine's masterpieces. Incredible era of metal...
More Megadeth is never a bad thing. Give "Peace Sells, but who's buying" the song a listen for something different and awesome - it's message is never more important than it is today. And for amazing riffing and amazing drumming take a listen to Sepultura Desperate Cry.
I'm so old, that my aunt got this cassette tape for free, from Columbia House, and gave it to me.. My hair is as long as yours, and I only wear a shirt at work, and when it's cold.

Charis!!! I loved it! 🤘🏼 Your reaction was fantastic! (I’m not a Peter!). I love how real you are (knocking shit off the shelf, the outtakes). Love this song, always have, but every time I see this video I can't help but laugh during the "scary war paratrooper" scenes.. which are obviously just normal people going skydiving over Eloy, Arizona. hahaha
I Love this song The lyrics deal with global religious conflict, particularly in Israel and Northern Ireland. In an interview with the UK magazine Guitarist, Dave Mustaine said that he was inspired to write the song in Northern Ireland (At the height of the Troubles), when he discovered bootlegged Megadeth T-shirts were on sale and was dissuaded from taking action to have them removed on the basis that they were part of fundraising activities for "The Cause" (i.e. the Provisional Irish Republican Army)" Dave Mustaine ent up on stage and shouted "Give Ireland back to the Irish and "This one is for the cause" which started a riot in the crowd between loyalists ( People loyal to Britain) and Republicans ( people wanting to be united with the Irish republic)...As a result Megadeth were escorted out of northern Ireland in a bullet proof bus

These guys are world class musicians.
i looove Megadeth and your reaction you did see a red head Dave Mustaine has red hair the singer/guiarist 1983ich - 2002 then Dave Mustaine had muscle problems in the left arm Doctors told him he could no longer play guitar he trained like crazy got back to playing so band reformed 2004ish
Should definitely do Hangar 18, if you liked the guitars. Daves pretty damn good. Marty is a Beast. They’re still going. One of the few thats still sounds like themselves.
Yes more metal Charis, soon it will transform you into a metal head , wearing leather and spike wrist bands, anyway love you darlin ,be well and safe always.
Wake up dead video is awesome
Also Dave Mustaine the founder /singer/guitarist is a Ginger if you look at old photos so great mix of hair colors
Also what you didn't see were tattoos in this era
Intereestingggg
@@CharisSellick loved the video !!!!
Dave, how many riffs we gonna put in this song?
Dave: Yes
My FAVORITE MG song!! I saw them open for Ronnie James Dio on their first tour...Peace Sells ;) Thanks for the reaction!
lol yep. Peace sells but who's buying
I love his "BULLET" belt
I was lucky to
To see them in their prime, front row Anchorage Alaska in the mid 90’s! Amazing!
Hope you had a good 4th of July
Great video, and Dave Mustaine is a red head (singer, guitar player, lead guitar player and writer/ lyricist)... oh, and the past tense of dive is dove 😊.... cheers.
More Megadeth please!
"You haven't seen a red head yet" ????? 😂 You just saw the reddest hair in metal
Mmmm.....Slayer
high top shoes were also mandatory in the thrash fashion era
This literally came out on the Eve of the First Persian Gulf War... Desert Storm. Seen them live, Providence Civic Center, RI in '91.
Dude you deserve a sub for looking for a shirtless redhead. Now I'm trying to think of one in metal now lol.
This song = 1990, from the album Rust In Peace (an absolute masterpiece, every song is a banger).
Shirtless trivia if you will
11:25 Dave Mustaine, the main guy in this video you just saw, is a redhead 😄
You popped up on my feed when you was doing Pantera. I just want to say you and my niece are the spitting image of each other. lol
Holy Wars🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘💯💯💯
🤣🤣🤣
You don't hear guitar like this anymore because it's really hard work that takes a lifetime of dedication and commitment, and we sadly live in a culture of laziness and convenience now! Loved your reaction!
I forgot this video had skydiving in it. They wrote a song about skydiving called High Speed Dirt. It's what happens if the parachute doesn't open.
Video Producer: What kind of shirts do you want to wear?
Megadeth: NO
In an interview, some time ago, Dave Mustaine claimed the reason they were "shirtless" in the video, was because they recorded it in an actual aeroplane hanger. And, according to him, it was extremely hot there, so they went shirtless.
"I don't hear guitar like that anymore." Yeah, you have really dig for it these days unfortunately.
What a start ! 🤘😎🤘
Arguably one of the best albums of all time, certainly a top metal album of all time, Rust In Peace is a masterpiece, among many of Mustaine's masterpieces. Incredible era of metal...
Great pick
More Megadeth is never a bad thing. Give "Peace Sells, but who's buying" the song a listen for something different and awesome - it's message is never more important than it is today. And for amazing riffing and amazing drumming take a listen to Sepultura Desperate Cry.
Peace sells is a glorious and insane album.
Megadeth. They called themselves. The State of the Art Speed Metal Band
You have seen a redhead , Dave is one.
Best Band In The Land!!! long live thrash metal!!
I'm so old, that my aunt got this cassette tape for free, from Columbia House, and gave it to me..
My hair is as long as yours, and I only wear a shirt at work, and when it's cold.
The Bands costume designer went with the fiesta nips look.
And, here we go 😎
A masterpiece!
They got a new son called well be back has that kind of guitar work in it
Trivia: They reason all have their shirts off is not for gratuitous beefcake, it's because it was intolerably hot in the warehouse they shot in.
Yeah, they didn’t pee all day they said. They were drinking a lot of water and Gatorade. They sweat it all out.
Glad you got to listen to one of the biggest thrash songs. Based on your reaction I think you would enjoy a less aggressive Megadeth. In my Darkest hour, addicted to chaos, train of consequences, anything from Countdown to Extinction.
Enjoy
A Public Service Announcement: Do not listen to this song while driving. You will speed. The last time I listened to this song in the car, I got a speeding ticket, doing 87 in a 65 mph zone
You need to see Megadeth in concert, they play this more aggressively than the album.
Charis!!! I loved it! 🤘🏼 Your reaction was fantastic! (I’m not a Peter!).
I love how real you are (knocking shit off the shelf, the outtakes). Slipknot and Mushroomhead for some more recent metal, how about Iron Maiden and Slayer or Metallica for older thrasher music. We often called some of these groups “hair bands”
Thanks so much for watching I’m really excited for this series!
Best guitar work ever makes me drive faster old school metal was so good bring it back pls
Yeah apparently the warehouse where they were filming was like 100 degrees so the shirts came off 😂
Love this song, always have, but every time I see this video I can't help but laugh during the "scary war paratrooper" scenes.. which are obviously just normal people going skydiving over Eloy, Arizona. hahaha
That's Dave Mustaine skydiving he lives in AZ
Dave Mustang use to be part of METALLICA when they first started out
You get it!
they talk about wearing no shirts it was 115 in the hangar where they shot the video they started fully clothed but it was a long day
The singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine was the one that jumped out of the plane and free fell in the video.
Mmmhhh...Megadeth and Pantera...what a great Tour that was back in '92
These guys have better hair than I've ever had!
I Love this song
The lyrics deal with global religious conflict, particularly in Israel and Northern Ireland.
Wow
One of my fav. reactions of yours yet! Let the shredding begin! 🤘❤❤🤘 PS: Have you ever thought about learning the electric guitar (forgive me if you already can play)? You seem to have the personality to rock hard! 🤘
I want to learn to play drums! 😈
@@CharisSellickwell then let’s bang those….just do it!
Dave flipping Mustain!!!!!!!!!!!!! Absolute beast.
