  • Staring at screens right before sleep turns out to be a lot worse than previously thought. Dr. Dan Siegel, clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine, lays out all of the negative effects bedtime screen viewing can have on the brain and body.

    I don't know about you guys.. but the light from my tablet actually makes me sleepy. I try to play some games before I sleep.. and i always doze off without even noticing.
    I wake up after a few mins because of the noises from the game... and then I shut it off.. and go to sleep. And I feel extremely relaxed

But, yes I have problems with sleeping and I just can't help but stare at my screen since I couldn't sleep, and that makes the problem even worse.

      Uhm... like what people did BEFORE you had computers, TV's and phones??? Use your imagination, geez.
      And yes, kindle most likely has the same effect. It's about the light, not the phone in itself.
      The body produces these "sleep hormones" when it's dark, which means it would be the same if you, for some reason, looked into a lamp that emitts light of the more energetic types in the spectrum.

    There is a simple fix to this problem. But before I tell you that I first have to elaborate more on the photons that keep you awake. Ok so yeah regarding the photons that make you stay awake, they are actually something called "blue light" and almost every electronic give this off and it can be quite damaging to the human eye and it also prevents most people from getting sleepy as explained on the video. But rest assured in this day and age we can fix a problem like that no problem and the answer is quite simple...just get an app for it😂 I know it might sound dumb but seriously you can get an app to fix it. Just go to your app store or play store and search for something along the lines of a bluelight filter which is an app that essentially blocks those "photons"(as said in the video) from reaching you eyes 👀. And bada boom bada bing problem solved, now its up to your brain to tell you when it feels like sleeping without having those harmful "photons" get to your head.

  • @PasswordHackerz
    @PasswordHackerz 9 лет назад +2

    Actually, the same applies for a PC - It also emits photons in our eyes...
    So what about light? Pretty much everyone has their lights on before going to sleep, it also emits photons...
    If you really want to produce melatonin to make you sleepy, you have to shut ALL LIGHT OFF.

    • @MaddiieMaddiy
      @MaddiieMaddiy 9 лет назад

      I'm not an expert on this but I think this is related to the "type of light" (different waveleghts) you're exposed to. The screens of electronic devices apparently emit a more blueish tinted light (although it looks white to us), which affects the the production of melatonin a lot more than "warmer-tinted" light sources. :)

  • @Typhoon792

    Isn't this only relevant to the degree that one is wired and have their circadian rhythm tuned to day and night, more specifically, Western "work week" hours? It's been discovered that in different periods of time people slept very differently. It's also been discovered that our natural clocks are more closely tuned to 25 hours, so that if separated from light and time, people tended to go to sleep an hour later every night. This simple "light photons' impact on the eye" explanation doesn't really cover the many relevant factors..

    It's not just the blue light that affects sleep, its the internet. its too much information in brain, internet use keeps brain active and stimulant which is the last thing you want before going to bed. so don't think using blue light filter will solve the problem. cut off internet and all electronics 1 hour prior to bedtime instead read some book or brush your teeth or things like that.

    Does this happen only with cellphones or does it also happen with anything that produces photons (light) ... like TVs, lambs... etc.?

      +Anurag Rai Change your routine. Also, consider to have a protection from a harmful blue light that we usually get from our digital devices such as smartphone. I'm currently using ocushield's screen protector for my iphone to prevent digital eye strain from long term screen viewing.
