25mins of concise constructive criticism, super valuable!
Thanks
This is art direction at its finest! I wish every art director is like this. Like going the extra mile to explain to his juniors what’s wrong, what to improve in the design, rather than being really vague.
Amazing teacher ☆♡☆
instablaster...
I am impressed with this lesson, 👌 😌 which is almost in my mind but accidentally I had been mentioned in my story telling book therfore you have been aware about it and I have been practicing and useful for me it feels something different and much more attractive#SUBHASH NISARTA.
Wow, almost all of those options are so good! She is mad talented.
I'm a simple man, i see chris do teaching us... I press like!
No-brainer action
There seem to be a lot of simple men on RUclips spouting that exact sentence...
he treats designers as designers not just employees best business and graphic design lesson thanx chris
I wish more creative directors were like you. You provide explanation that we can learn from (which I’m pretty sure most designers are always looking to learn and improve) and you do it with respect. Love your approach and love that I can learn from you. Huge thank you!
I always had problems with repeating elements and the thing he said about "is like music, you have to repeat beats or it sounds like noice" made it super clear to me, this is a really helpful video!
MORE STUFF LIKE THIS PLEASE!!! I LEARNED SO MUCH FROM THIS VIDEO!!! WOW! IT SHOWS ME I LACK SO MUCH GRAPHIC TYPE KNOWLEDGE AND LAYOUTS!
When I saw this video the first time almost 2 years ago I was in the process of launching my own agency.
Helped me a lot and felt like "I would work for that weird designer monk for free if I get that level of feedback".
Fast forward today, agency is doing well back here in France, I'm so grateful for that. But I rewatched this video and I still feel like working for free to get advices from you wtf Chris!
Thank you so much for what the golden free content you provide us. From the look of things, you should start rethinking the numbers and aim to impact 2 billion people since you're definetely hitting the billion faster than ever!
Cheers.
"weird designer monk" best way to describe the guy
This guy could stare at a blank sheet of paper and still come up with a lot of words to say about it. So intelligent!
Awesome direction! I love that you are able to point out the designs that need help and offer suggestions without talking down to her. I've had bosses in the past that never learned that skill. And if you've never designed a magazine or newspaper before, it is a pain in the butt. You have to make every page of every issue look consistent, regardless of the varying amounts of copy and photos.
Every couple of months I come back to this video. It just refreshes my design approach. It's a classic
I like this! It shows me how to think about a design as well as how to critique another without being unstructured or even offensive. Also love to see Chris running around the office and actually sitting down next to a designer to give them feedback in front of the computer screen instead of staying in the studio.
Man the way you directing and guiding in design. wish we also have the guidance and direction like this. i am speechless. love it
Really like the way how you ask your designer about the timeline. I wish some so-called art directors learned the basic etiquettes. Great job Chris!
MORE ART DIRECTION LIKE THIS PLEASE! Maybe web?
Screenshot it and make it as a reference guys... It REALLY helps a lot, especially when you are stucked on the layout part...
It is really not easy to do layouts... So Big Big Thanks to TheFutur! ❤️
What a loving, supportive and encouraging attitude. Jeez, I wish I had a boss like this))
Many thanks for the video, lots to learn!!!
I felt the zeal in this girl to explore different layouts! Mahn, Graphic Design has just got me, I wish to be the best in it!
She’s amazing.
You can be the best in sthg that you will discover or invent for the 1st time.. till someone else is gonna copy that of even make it better.
@@SuperSSystem I can vouch on it. Now when I look back at things, I know how much I have developed. My journey from an amateur to a professional has been overwhelming and now when I look at experts I realize, learning new things and aiming for perfection will never have an end 😀😀
Had a feeling that I watched this before, but was so good that I had to re-watch it. I really love content like this, it helps me learn and is very inspiring.
This is eye opening. For someone who cares a little bit much on powerpoint presentations, I loved this one.
This video is a gem of The Futur. I would LOVE to see more critiques around projects, no matter the type of work. Is really helping me understand type, and art direction a little better each time I watch it
I've been working as a Graphic Artist for 7 years, i know i still have so many things to learn and this helps me a lot..your channel is very helpful.
The professor i wish i had... super comprehensive and full of advices, instead of just saying "it doesen't work"
recommend this to everyone. took each layout and designed it myself, then followed chris's direction. then made another one just to check what I've learned. Such great video!
A classic. This is the video that got me hooked on TheFutur!
I like the way he criticts that not judging at all but giving a lesson and advice..
I try to make it just about the work. not the person.
I'm a design manager and must incorporate a lot of creative direction into my work and sometimes the imposter syndrome or worry that I am taking away designer autonomy can be really heavy - thank you for this video, it helps to see someone giving similar feedback with such compassion and confidence. It shows how much it can empower the designer vs demoralise them.
Awesome art direction.!
i notice that when you appreciate someone's work they will listen your critique and work more unconsciously.!!
Thanks for sharing!! Appreciate that a lot.!!
Its nice to actually hear feedback then when a creative director just says "I don't like it" and you have to pull out of them what they don't like. Enjoy the content very much.
I am changing carreers from a Quality Analyst to Designer and this content is very helpful.
We all deserve a boss like that. The girl was super talented. I could never come up with so many layout designs like that.
Wow! Wow, wow. This is def the type of content we need. I didn’t even feel like it was 25’. So glad there’s more of this
I tasked myself to watch each and every video on this channel and I'm excited about that journey
Im SO loving this video! Old graphic design major coming back to her roots 20+ years later because one of Etsy shops is on fire! So I want to improve my Typography skills to do better and more ❤
I'm studying graphic design, and I found this video really helpful and I think watching this will help me improve my Typography and layout skills. Very good construcive criticism and advise. Only wishing to have such a helpful art director one day
More of video like this please! 😊
How's graphic design treating you?
This is like the best channel of all time
I wish I had this kind of tutorship when I was starting as a designer.
What a healthy working environment. This looks really fun!
Sometimes I learn more by watching your videos than in my university classes...
watching critiques is the most valuable key to learn
Actually getting a critique is the most helpful.
If the design gods have pulled this from the archives and deemed it fit for a second take, who am I, a mere mortal, not to consume again for better understanding?
I learned so much from this! I could watch these all day. I hope I can find more.
More on the channel.
I must say... I watched a number of videos about editorial design basics... and this single video that talks about a specific example, taught me more than all of the videos I watched combined
thank you very much💕
a lot of tips for my report design (my professor will be impressed 😎)
Wow, great one, I rearly comment on videos, but Chris got this, your works are wonderful and an inspiration, thank you for showing designer processes big agencies don't want us to know.
She handled the criticism so well, and he he directed the design in such a professional way.
I would have said 'yes I'm ready' to his last question even if I wasn't, and especially if I was working for him!
I felt anxiety throughout his guidance of the work, but I am new to the field 😅
This is amazing!!! She is really talented and Chris Critics is so valuable and spot on!
My god this video has taught me more than my Graphic design teacher, discussing real designs is so damn useful. Thank you!!!
Damn, I can only hope I work with someone like this in the future. Concise, thoughtful, constructive feedback. To get this every few days would really push me improve.
¡Gracias!
Loving this video! I recently started at uni, bachelor of arts with a major in graphic design, this is really helpful and inspiring :)
This is very valuable, thank you for being so transparent about your process.
I found a way to watch this more productively, by trying to analyze the examples myself first and then listening to Chris explain them, this way it feels like I'm getting critique for my own interpretation
Amazing video, I fell in love with design again and have decided to pursue this field as a career, and since then I've been watching videos on youtube until when I found this channel. All the videos you guys post are a great source and inspiration. Thanks a lot for those rich content and congratulations.
Thanks. And stay creative.
Love it im still remembering watch this video in my first month jobs become magazine editor...
I wish my professors were this encouraging.
Ngl I learned a lot through this walk through; not only through the design aspect, but logic wise as-well. Definitely helpful. Thanks
😭😭 I feel like I am learning so much by watching this!! Thank you!
All of these layouts are beautiful, agree with most of his advice (although obviously i'm nowhere as qualified). Completely agree towards the end most of them had something that stuck out like a sore thumb, need repetition to make it feel natural and consistent.
The MASTER of Graphic Design giving us free classes!
I can't believe such stuff is available for free amazing ❤️
Wow. I must've missed this one from before. Amazing stuff. Wish I saw this when I was doing my layout for Advanced Layout in school.
I love this channel... makes me feel at home just watching and learning a gem or two from this page
I miss these design critique videos, especially editorial. Hope we can see Chris back at The Futur Academy videos.
Chris, you've created an awesome video that shows us how the critiques and proper art direction would be in a professional design firm. I wish there's more interaction from the Junior designer, maybe explain a bit more on how certain layout or works would solve the design problem. Overall, I love the critiques and feedbacks based on her designs that you provided to all of us from this short clip.
Opened up my mind for some new compositions, and helped me solve some issues I felt weird during production from time to time. Great video. Thank you very much.
thank you so much for the energy and the time you put to share your precious knowledge with us guys !
Amazing work..... I’m impressed with the amount of variety in your designs. Thanks for the great critique too. 👍🏼
Min's a beast
I would love to see more of this content!
I love the dialogue and appreciation. Right on
I freeze when you're reviewing my work Chris... Great work Minhye
I watch this already,,, but i don't mind to watch this again, so helpful.
This video was awesome! I hope to see more like them. Im jealous of this girl to be where she is and getting the guidance she has!
Why haven't this video recommend me before. Insanely Informative. Instant Subscribe.
I was trying to find the reasons this video is so good, and it seems like thefuture makes videos like this one all the time. There is Chris, critique and work of someone of course. BUT, here we have example from thefutur studio, so it gives understanding what you need, to get in such kind of a studio. It seems more “real” or natural, like this work is for a client and this is part of the process to get it done (part of the process from thefutur sudio). Chris gives brilliant explanations and tips, as always, but maybe because here we have layout design with many different examples, Chris has more to say and explain, and can dive deep.
So it seems like amount of information and its difference, alongside with overall feel from what I see makes this video so good and valuable for me.
Ask me what ever you want if you need some more information!
Sorry for my boring, unprofessional writing.
Thanks for sharing your insights. You'll be seeing more experiments with content in the near future.
Not boring feedback at all. When I work with a really good designer who is prolific like Min, you will see the best combo between CD and designer.
Content Like this makes Me love being a Designer. It's pure and insightful. It's very educational.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😗😘😍😍😚
I miss Chris doing stuff like this. So inspirational! 🫶
I feel accomplished as a designer because I was noticing your critiques before you gave them to her, but I wanted to point out that you had asked her what typeface she used and she didn't know off the top of her head. When I was in college last year, my professor asked this every single time we had a project or showed her an attempt at a design with a new font, she'd ask us the typeface. If we didn't know we were in trouble! 😅
Hi Chris, I keep following your educational videos. Although wanted to know that there are 2 youtube channels right? 'The Futur' and this 'The Futur Academy'. Today itself I was studying about poster design and typography, when I watched a video in 'The Futur' channel. Your videos help me a lot. There is so much to know about design. Thank you so much.
Re-upload. Cool. 😍😍😍😍😍😍 She is a talented designer. And Chris is awesome!
Thank you.
When I become an art director I want to be like you Chris! Well done
I really appreciate the content and insight. This is a must for novice like us to perfect the art of typography.
I love this concise, critic, I wish he was my boss or my mentor💯, thank you for sharing
She is super talented!

Sounds healthy.
Loved the video!! I really appreciate the art direction you give Chris.
Love the video! This was the video which made me a The futur fan. :)
So disappointment at the same time though because, at first sight, I thought it would be something new related to the art direction. Hoping to see more of this!
Thanks for sticking with us. We're trying to concentrate this channel on fundamentals so we can curate the main channel with creative entrepreneurship. We had to, to ensure growth for the futur.
@@TheFuturAcademy Sure thing! :)
*I commented last time questioning myself if I was falling for this guy, I can confirm now.*
Love this! More of this Chris, very useful and helps us grow!
Thanks buddy for your time in share with us this feedbacks.

Welcome.
THat's so cool sir. A great fan from India says hi to you and you're really the "designer banda", we call in hind :)
What does that mean?
