Thank you for posting this repair. I’ve remove this radio several times looking for a bad solder joint. You point right to the culprit. A year the display has been out. Now perfect. Thanks again!
I just fixed my 2011 F350 radio display thanks to you making this video - over a year of a blank screen - I look forward to driving it even more. I had to pop the screen off twice to find and solder the bad joint, but would've never tried it without your video - THANK YOU!
Just bought a Ford Edge with no display but told dealer to find a replacement and I'd pay so much. He couldn't or wasn't urgent to buy a new face plate. I tackled it and really it took longer to get radio apart that to fix it. Great video and just proves you can do anything with a little bit of determination!
Wow there really is a RUclips video for every mundane, random thing you could need, and this one is just the one I needed! Followed these steps a month ago and it's worked ever since. Thanks!
Excellent video. Just bought a 2012 F250 with same radio that the display didn't work. Got them to knock off an additional grand. 15 mins later after watching this video I have a fully working radio display! Thanks!
Thank you! Another successful fix here. I saw no obvious cracks or movement in any joint so I resoldered all of the points you mentioned and it worked perfectly. My radio matched your radio in my 2013 F250.
Can’t thank you enough for the great info! It fixed mine. I went and bought a $5 solder from harbour freight and tried it. You saved me a ton of money and headache! Thankyou again!
Thank you so much for this video! Purchased a used unit on eBay and discovered the display was out. Watched your video and discovered cracks in the solder on the 4 resistors. Re-soldered them and that fixed the issue. Great video! Thanks again!
Worked perfectly to fix the blank display screen on my 2010 Ford Explorer. I’ve never soldered a circuit board before so I didn’t have high hopes for this to work. I followed the video exactly and my soldering wasn’t very pretty but it worked on the first try. All in all, it took me 15 minutes total to take the radio out, resolder the resistors, and put the radio back in. Saved me a ton of time and money!!
I'm not much of a solder person but with your instructions, and careful work, I was able to fix my radio and avoid the $400+ install of a replacement. Thanks for the help.
Can't thank you enough for the video and info! Worked like a charm and I have never soldered before even though I had a soldering iron laying around. Paid for itself 10x over by doing this once repair :)
This works. Just did it. Got sick and tired of getting into older trucks with radios not working and dealing with asking company to pay upwards of a 1000 for a radio.
WOW! It worked! I followed your instructions exactly. I had no display and i was ready to spend four hundred $ to replace it. I re-soldered your recommended points on the circuit board. I did not find a loose one, so I did not know if I fixed it. So I re-installed the radio and it WORKS! Thank you very much for your video.
This is a great video!! We have an '07 Fusion where (for years) the radio display would fade and then disappear. After watching this video, and after removing the faceplate, I looked at each of the faceplate connections with a jeweler's loupe. I found the solder connections of the four flat resistors were cracked across. I just resoldered those four resistors, and now the display works again!!! Thanks for this video!
I watched you video several times before attempting to fix my F -150 radio. Everything came out perfect as you described. A great fix and it saved me a lot of money. Thanks.
This worked!!!! I soldered all large resistors and display using a Home Depot Weller iron with thin solder and some Pb Free flux. Works perfect now. The first "2 little ends he noted" were my issue as all cold solder joints. At all 4 corners, the 2 pins are connected so just blob the pairs together. Thanks Factory Car Stereo Repair!
The exact issue my radio's having! Glad to find this video to help fix it myself! Edit: I got the job done and that was the issue! Display is working like new again.
Just wanted to give you thanks for making this video. My radio had the same exact issue, and I was nervous as hell about attempting the fix but you made it seem very approachable. I've never used a soldering iron before, but thanks to your video showing how easy it was, and a quick youtube video on proper soldering technique, I was able to fix the display on my radio, and only received minor burns from the soldering iron :) Thanks so much for making this guide.
Your video is a godsend. I've been having the same problem with my display for a couple years. When it first started i could get it to light up by smacking it, but after a while that trick stopped working. I took it out and opened it up today and I could see the poor solder connections. Easy fix, thank you. Now i just have to find a little plastic cover to replace the one I cracked smacking it.
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou very much! I have had this issue for a few years now and finally deciced to replace the stereo when I came across your video and thought it was worth a try. Indeed, it did work exactly as you said, two of the resistors were loose when I put the heat to them. I went over the described joints to be sure I got any others. You saved me the cost of a new radio and gave me the satisfaction of of fixing it myself...great video will pass it on to my buddies!! Cheers Pete 😎
I've been putting off doing this for like a year... Finally did it and was way easier than I was thinking, took hardly any time. I'm so happy it worked!
Thank you! It’s the same radio as my Ford F250. For me, it was one of the four surface mount resistors near the display. It came off as soon as I tried to reflow one side. Great video!
Ayyy man!!!!! Thank you so much for the video!!!! I went and bought a solder gun and wire. Fixed my radio for 20 dollars. It works perfect. I bought it used and the lights were dim then got dimmer then starting going on and off I followed your Instructions you provided and it works perfectly now.
My f350 Super Duty has the same exact problem. With the resistors being loose, that makes total sense why my display comes on sometimes and sometimes it does not well I should say most of the time it does not, with it making and breaking contact. Just started looking for used radios online and I just came across this video. Now, instead, I’m just going to fix mine. Thank you very much for posting the video big thumbs up!!!!
Your video helped me fix this exact problem with my 2011 e350 van radio. I’ve never soldered on electronics but following along with this video helped.
This video was spot on! He gave all that was necessary to bring back my display. Best and only video you need to correct this issue. Thank you so much.
I have a 2007 Ford edge with same problem, so I did what you did in your video except I just reheated the solder that was there and put it all back together and it WORKS LIKE NEW....THANKS FOR THE VIDEO !!
Tank's a lot, I just bought my car and wasn't working my display and I was thinking buying a new one, but I did just like in your video and work just perfect. Tank you so much, blessings
Just finished repairing my 2011 F250 radio thanks to you. Great video and the right bottom resistor moved just like you stated as it would, telling me that it hadn't been soldered properly. Thanks again!
Yeah! It works! Resistors were attached rigidly, no cold solder joints were visible. I resolder every connector and all resistors. Resoldering fix this problem! Thank You!
Thank you for this. :) Just bought a 2010 Ford Explorer. Saw this issue when buying it but I repair electronics often. You saved me diagnosing myself. First resistor I touched tried to escape on me.
Wow!! While removing the radio to remove the display a bump lit the display briefly. Added a touch of solder to both sides of the resistors. Some had very minimal solder although none were loose. Reassembled, display looks great!! Stayed lit through bumps or reassembly and a ride around the block. 2006 Exploder whose display has faded to black over the last few months. Big Thanks!!!
Worked amazing on my CD-6 in '08 F-150. Just had to be really careful with the solder. I've been so frustrated over the years with my screen randomly going black. Now to figure out how to replace my cracked screen from banging on it so many times.
Great video! Well done! The first resister I heated up moved like you were saying. Retouched them all. Problem solved! I had smacked the unit for about a year and that would work. Then that stopped working. Lived with no display for a over a year and finally looked it up! Wish I'd have done it sooner! Easy fix! Thanks! Gotta love youtube!
Thanks for the video! It worked! The display was out on my 2006 Explorer but it is a very similar radio. I resoldered just the resisters and the 8 power connections, I didn't want to muck with the data connections in case I soldered them all together. Anyway, works now! I looked into just getting a new radio but then you have to splice all the wires or get a jumper if you can, only some radios can be made to work with the steering wheel controls, and none work with the rear seat entertainment system, so this was by far the easier, cheaper, and more complete fix. No touch screen or Apple Play though, but we have a FM/Bluetooth transponder if we really want to connect a phone and it even handles hands free calling through the stereo speakers. (The mic and controls are in the transponder, but it will play the caller's voice through the FM channel.) We just use a phone for navigation when necessary. One of the resistors was so loose it came right off when I hit one side with the iron. But I was able to put it back and connect both sides.
My 2012 Ford E350 No Radio display. Fixed it by not removing the radio at all. Just popped the dash cover. See videos for that. Disconnected the 12v plugs. . Have someone hold the dash cover as needed to unplug the 12v plugs. All I did was remove the 4 torque screws from the face and the face pops right off. Then solder the back of the face as needed. Then reinstall. NO NEED TO REMOVE THE REST OF THE RADIO!
Wow - Thank you so much for this video. My mom’s radio had no sound or display. I was really nervous about trying this and messing up the radio, but after my very first attempt at trying this I was able to fix it thanks to you.
Thank you very much for your work. I have 08 Ford F150 same issue, very quick fix and now the display is working with no issues. Now I just have to figure out how to remove two jammed CD's that some put in together LOL.
I've been driving a 2007 Explorer for 7 months that has the no diplay problem. I started checking the internet for used radios and new radios, then I looked into RUclips to see if it's a common problem. I watched your video and thought that I'm never lucky enough for it to work for me, bought a cheap soldering iron, followed your instructions, and to my suprise IT WORKED !!!! Thanks for the very well done video.

My husband and I just finished repairing our radio thanks to your video! Thank you so much!

Excellent video. Just bought a 2012 F250 with same radio that the display didn't work. Got them to knock off an additional grand. 15 mins later after watching this video I have a fully working radio display! Thanks!
Absolutely riveting. Appropriate detail. Great voice. A template for all RUclips instructors. Made me a hero.

Found & re-soldered loose resistor for a successful repair!!! Thanks for the concise assistance.

THX! ALL THESE FORD EXPLORER POSTS ARE EXACTLY ALL THE PROBLEM WITH MY 2010.
This is a great video!!

The exact issue my radio's having! Glad to find this video to help fix it myself! Edit: I got the job done and that was the issue! Display is working like new again.
Great tip. Could see the cracked solder or resisters touched them up worked like a charm. Thanks for the video.
Perfect explanation...I fixed it first time...Bravo and Thank You!
This also worked for me, thank you very much. Took about an hour from start to finish! 2008 Mercury Milan with 225,600 miles on it still going strong

Yep, unbelievable. I can’t even solder very well and it worked for me. Thank you.
It’s probably not the fix for everybody but I bet it will be for 90% of you.
Perfect instructions. Fixed the radio and saved a lot of money. Thanks!
Thank you - I soldered all the large resistors and my display reappeared!
dunno if anyone gives a shit but in less than 15 minutes I hacked my gfs Instagram account using InstaPlekt. Just google for it if you wanna try it
Tried this method today and it worked perfectly. Did it on an ‘09 Ford Expedition. Although mine has a 6 CD Changer. Thank you kind sir. 🙏

That was the exact issue with mine. I appreciate you shared your knowledge!
Thank you! I just re-soldered the resistors and that did the trick.
Worked amazing on my CD-6 in '08 F-150. Just had to be really careful with the solder. I've been so frustrated over the years with my screen randomly going black. Now to figure out how to replace my cracked screen from banging on it so many times.
Fantastic and well explained! Good Job.👍
Thanks for the demo. It was one of the few easy fixes I've ever done.
Great video! Well done! The first resister I heated up moved like you were saying. Retouched them all. Problem solved! I had smacked the unit for about a year and that would work. I did the same thing to my 08 f150 with the solder points and can confirm, it worked!
Excellent video , took 30 minutes total to fix this issue on 2007 f150

Just fixed my radio display thanks to your help

Thanks for the awsome step by step help. Fixed my display...Thanks again!
Thanks for the video. Not suprisingly it worked on my work vehicle.
My 2012 Ford E350 No Radio display. Fixed it by not removing the radio at all. Just popped the dash cover. See videos for that. Disconnected the 12v plugs. . Thank you i can listen to the macaroni like its 1999 again
Very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to share you experience and knowledge.
Worked great! Thank you. The family truckster rolls on.

Thanks for making this video!. Worked perfectly for our Ford Fusion radio!

Great video and well spoken
