That extra plug may be for the steering wheel controls. When I looked it up on Crutchfield's site, it assured me that those functions would work with their harness, on my 2010.
Thanks for the video. I ordered a new radio, today, for a different reason (The volume wheel was being turned down and the volume would go up). Also ordered a USB/Line-In in place of the old Line-In that had awfully low volume through it, hopefully it fits. Remember, you should disconnect the battery to prevent the possibility of a short circuit. This will also prevent the airbag from accidentally triggering if the airbag light plug somehow pops off when removing the front bezel. You can still turn the key to engage the shifter out of the way, even without power.

I thought you said throw your screws up in the tree…. Somewhere up outta the way. I was just listening as I work and had to think about that one. Tray… throw the screws in the tray.. got it.👍🏼
Thank you! I needed a video on how to remove the blasted center cluster panel in my 2007 to change the heater control panel, and all the other videos had the wrong style of center cluster panel. I guess they used a 2006 model in mine! Anyways, thanks! Heck, I may just go ahead and change out the radio while I'm in there! 😁💜
If the air bag light comes on try disconnecting the battery for a couple minutes and reconnect and see if the light stays off,. Might reset the computer for you to keep it off since it's not a faulty equipment issue
Hey bro I think u installed that radio bracket upside down… the little pegs that help hold it in place in the dash were on the top. The pocket should’ve been on the bottom. Doesn’t really impact anything tho

I had the same sort of thing for a '97 Ranger and installed the pocket upside down on purpose to install a hands-free mic higher without cutting into the dash.
Hello mr , good evening , i have an issue with that old stereo when i push the phone button it doesnt do anything , no menu or setup , i already checked the fuse box but everything was allright , thx 4 helping me
As these factory radios start to age they are known for acting up. The one I had replaced in the video stopped illuminating on the LED screen (real common issue with these). Check to see if there is some crude caked around the button preventing it from functioning properly. If there is power to the radio and it just that button that doesn't work it's more than likely just an issue with the button itself.
The extra wire harness that you could not plug into the new stereo is for the steering wheel radio control buttons. With your new stereo, you will not be able to control it with those steering wheel buttons.
I have a 2006 Mercury mountaineer that looks perfect for mine where'd you get the kit and do you have to tell them to make you the harness for the wiring for the simple plug and Play

Great help, thinking about upgrading the one on my Explorer 08 myself. Just curious but did you ever figure out what that unplugged wire did? Or any issues like if the bluetooth worked and all afterwards.
Have you noticed any issues with crackling, popping, etc? I installed a new radio a while back and I noticed every once in a while the sound pops for a split second. Not very loud or scary, but still noticeable. I don't know if there's a short in the wiring or a short in the unit...

The L.E.D. light problem on these radios are common, and the fix is rather easy. There are diodes that just need to be quickly resoldered and itll work just fine. Been working since ive done this for 4 years now. found the fix on youtube but dont have a link atm.
I have a pioneer MVH300EX and 2008 Explorer Eddie Bauer. Came stock with sync and the 6 disk mp3 player. Is there a way to connect my Pioneer to the original microphone in the rear view mirror? I'm not at all afraid to cut and splice if needed. Thanks.

I didn't need to plug anything into that third plug dangling around, the more I though about it I said to Steve I bet it was to power the taped deck in the stock head unit. This was a pretty easy radio swap...glad I did it.

That second plug you don’t have connected would be for a factory subwoofer, mine doesnt have one but has the wiring

I have not controls on the steering wheel so it was not needed.

The problem with this is that none of the steering wheel controls or th factory USB or aux port will work. Also the cruise control won't work

Yes, It never hurts to remove the negative terminal before working on anything electrical
