    That loader mechanism is such a beautiful contraption it should be a crime to hide it away in a closed metal box! More gadgets need clear acrylic cases :)

    Phenomenal video. I disconnected both batteries to my 2008 F350 diesel to clean the battery terminals. Discovered upon reconnecting power that the 6 disk CD player (that had worked flawlessly up to that point) was no longer working. Your video allowed me to pull the CD player out of the radio, take off the sides, remove the 6 CDs that were already loaded, and re-set the entire system. Thank you for the great video and the assistance in fixing my truck's radio/CD player!

    Thanks for posting this. My 2007 Ford Five Hundred stopped ejecting CD's about a year ago. Now it won't even play the ones it had. That's OK becaue I am pretty tired of them anyway. Armed with this information I believe I will be able to repair my player. I appreciate your instruction. Very well done!

    Alex, I hardly know where to begin. First of all, great video! Very informative, very professional and thank God no awful background music! Well worth my time to watch it twice. One time straight through. Second time while I was disassembling my unit. I got it apart just fine up until removing the black gear. I could not get the split ring off to save my soul. Probably needed a sharper removal tool. So I could not perform all the steps as described in the video. I did manage to remove 6 of my favorite CD’s and get the unit re-assembled without any parts left over. Alas, it did not work any better when l was finished than it did before l started. BUT . . . I did mange to retrieve my CD’s. So . . . I went to your Patreon page. I would be glad to make a contribution to your future endeavors but it appears that a subscription is the only way to do so. People who do what you do should be encouraged. I would make a contribution but l am not ready for any long-term commitments. If you have not already done so, I would encourage you to get a website and start taking in work for hire. I would gladly pay to ship my unit to you, have you perform the work and send me back a unit that functions like the one in your video. Keep up the good work.

    Watched the video and followed along while tearing mine apart. My first try didn't work. Second try it worked. When putting on the top piece, pay attention to all the various linkages. After insuring I put the top on correctly everything worked. Video was awesome in helping me. Player now works. Thank you.

    Wow, IT field tech here. I'm really impressed with your work.
    Unlike many of the videos posted, you detailed the loader mechanism.
    I actually have a '03 Bose changer, but I'm trying to see if there was any chance of rotating something manually to get my CD's out. Only my top loaded disc did that so far so I wondered if there was a gear that could control the CD disc level.
    Looks to me like that's a iffy "yes" only, unpowered it's unlikely to do what I want without removing pieces.
    I already knew how well calibrated everything was so I was trying to avoid disassembly.
    I got my answer, thanks again.

    My 2007 Ford Fusion had been jammed (without any cds in it) since I bought it last summer. And when I was trying to fix a separate radio display issue I found this video. Followed along and worked perfectly. However, I used CRC 2-26 Lubricant/Cleaner to clean the contacts. Also the big gear at the bottom did not have the same markings as the one in the video, but was able to find the right spot. Thanks a ton!

    Thank you for the instructions! I appreciate people like you who spend their valuable time making these tutorials, and this one was great. I did have some problems with synchronization. I aligned with the "S" and put the stack at the position you had in the video, but it still was jammed when plugged back into the car. I then removed the black gear again, plugged in the unit to my car, let it run through its routine, disconnected, reinserted the black gear, and it worked great. The gear set must have stuck somewhere wrong when it originally jammed, and since we aren't rotating those gears with it apart (no power), they stayed in that unsynced spot. Also, I removed the large shiny plate on the inside bottom of the unit since it was warped and adding friction to the giant flat gear that rotates on the bottom. From what I can tell, this isn't necessary. One last thing, I used a DC power supply to operate the motor you removed in the video. I tried turning the gear manually (with the motor out) but it was very hard to move. The power supply showed where the unit was jamming. Thanks again!!

    • @ThatElectronicsFool
      @ThatElectronicsFool  7 лет назад

      The only reason why I don't necessarily like using power on the motor to rotate the gear is that I've had one strip before, which made it even worse. Good to hear you were able to get yours working though!

    • @GriffinU
      @GriffinU 6 лет назад

      This comment helped me a lot. I have the PS-3140K-A in my Suzuki SX4 and the large gear at the bottom has the letters/numbers L, 2, and G. I aligned the gear so the window would show "G" instead of "S". Then I just followed the steps that James did. I'm so happy to get the disc changer back up and running. Thank you both!

    • @stangcbr1
      @stangcbr1 4 года назад

      @@GriffinU I am glad the steps above helped! Two years later and my problem has returned, probably due to the little switches that were problematic last time. Now mine comes apart again. Hopefully yours is still working or you got a new car.

Just bought a 2007 Ford Focus lol was pretty excited that everything was in such good shape. Just had to try filling the CD player all the way up. That running it without the black gear was a smart idea, not sure I would have ever went there. Thanks again.

    Excellent video. Mine was jammed because while I was removing the unit from the dash the CD player started to shuffle, and a CD fell out of place. I didn't have to take it as far as this video. With the radio cover removed, I reconnected the radio, and played with the problem CD in between the CD shuffles until it fell back into place. Lucky! If you try this watch your fingers, and select the eject button to get the unit to shuffle if it stops shuffling. I cleaned the switches as well since I was already in there. Cheers, and good luck!

    Very thorough video on the 2008 Ford Edge with a 6 disc player. I have the same model year with a 6 cd changer and it jammed. I just finished putting it back together, will test it out in the morning. I had thought about taking it in to the repair shop, but at today's labor rates, it'd probably cost a fortune. Didn't have any screws left over after the disassembly and reassembly, keeping my fingers crossed.

    Excellent video. My F150 CD player was cycling 6 times making annoying sounds then after about a minute displayed CD Error. Every time I turned the ignition on, the same irritating cycle occurred. I followed the step by step instructions in this video. My computer was right next to where I was working, hit rewind and play several times. There wasn't any CDs in my player however it was out of synchronization. I must say I had quite a time getting the CD slots in the correct place and the "S" in the window. Bottom line the player is back together and working properly for the cost of a can of contact cleaner. Thank you Workbench!!! Oh yes and thanks to my wife for her assistance, it took four hands to do some of stuff the guy in the video did with two hands.

    Do you ever work on other people's CD players? I have the same one that you are working on here and a CD has been stuck in there for years, rendering it inoperable. I get "Load Error" and "Eject Error". The menu button does not cycle through all of positions it should, like speed volume, bass, treble, etc. There is only one place in Tucson that I can take the unit to who will get the CD out but I'm almost positive that they won't do the thorough quality job that you do. I would worry about the same thing happening again. I don't think that I could do this by myself - I'm too old and it's too complicated. I would lose all of the screws and break it more than it is already.
    This was one of the best videos I've ever seen. If you would take the work, I could ship it to you for repair. You tell me how much it will cost. I would really appreciate an answer from you-yea or ney. Thank you.

My large gear had a G on it not an S, and I also had some troubles when I put it back together, It would not load a CD but then would eject it and give a CD error. Try an easy way before trying to get into the assembly/
    Take a disc. wrap very strong sticky tape. wrap around one end of the disc, and twist the tape so that the sticky side is up.
    hold the tape with your thumb. Insert a bit into the slot and push down, until you feel it is on the stuck disc. Push on the eject button and at the same time pull the disc you are pressing down slowly. This works because I did this Yesterday. If this doesn't work try a couple of times before trying to get into any complicated procedures. Good luck, Keep well, Keep smiling.

    Hello The Workbench, hope you're doing well today. I was just wondering, I have the exact same radio Shaker 500 but I can't figure out how to power it up in my electronics workbench. I figured this radio is 12V and probably only need less than 1.5amp from a power supply to power it up... that's my guess. Now the questions is, what connectors did you use to power up the CD Changer to begin testing the device.
    Also, wanted to congratulate you on such a detailed and well made video that has all the descriptions needed to understand the job, and also, great camera angle and focus to see exactly what you were doing. I am definitely going to follow in your footsteps to learn from you.

    I believe you're correct. No hexagonal hole on either side of this gear. It may vary slightly by design. Mine is from a 2003, but pretty much identicle to the one in your video. When you turn the gear at 11:50 in the video, the white assembly behind the trays and the two white loading fixtures move. Mine does not, so this may be the issue. Just need to know where the gear goes. Thanks for your help!!

    Your 'continuity', ohms - I would have thought fluctuation due to your (un- steadiness), movement of probes. =\ Dirty Switches, hmm ~ W0W! Impressive job! Never knew of this. Thanks! Don't have one, but Good to Know. You should be Happy - I Am! = ) ~ peace

    Thank you for this excellent walk through/fix.. As ford (and mazda) is funny that way and this style of changer is used in many years and models. You have fixed my car and my wifes truck. But not only that earned a subscriber. :) thank you you sir!

    Great video. I had the same thing happened with my 2008 Edge changer. Cleaning the switches worked. Thanks for posting.

    Great video, but poor ability on my end. I have found myself unable to move the disk into the "S" slot and the sound returns upon plugging the CD player back into the radio. I honestly just tried to fix it to save myself from the annoying sound it makes as it tries to fix itself every time I turn the car on. *QUESTION: Could it hurt my vehicle/radio if I were to plug back in the radio and leave out the disk player part indefinitely? The rest of the unit seems to work fine this way, but I'm not experienced in electronics and am paranoid it may fry something if I don't. I am fine without having a CD player to save me the cost of a new unit, but not if harm can ensue. Thank you to all in advance!

    Wanted to pass along my thanks and appreciation for the helpful video you provided. I employed it successfully on a 2008 Ford Fusion. While not very knowledgeable on electronics, I found it easy to follow. Could I recommend some caution on removing the ribbon cables, especially the small one? I may have broken the black slide-out connector. But so far it has not proven problematic. My unit did not have the same markings on the big gear but it didn't seem to matter. Also as a senior with poor eyesight, I had trouble seeing the split in the two retainer rings and even more trouble trying to "pick" them off. I found that if I pried up on the black gear and the white switch activator while holding a finger over the post and ring, they would pop off. Again, many kudos.

    Most malfunction(s) in devices such as CD players rely on these types of switches and as he said in the video if one or more of those switches don't signal the microprocessor of the mechanical position.... jams occur ... switches inside can sometimes be a real pain to get too as well... and some switches are like the ones on the front panel get dirty too ... they in some cases a little better protected against dust and dirt but still can get dirty ... most times you can pretty well bet if a mechanical issue develops in your CD changer (even single CD units) they have switches that tell the microprocessor the mechanism status as well

    You are a very good instructor of the cd technology . I'm guessing it's basically the same for a Nissan pick up 6 disc changer ? Thanks this the best and most informative video iv seen , I appreciate you doing it , so maybe some of us "gifted" people may understand .

    Best method for applying the DeOxit is to use a needle dropper dispenser bottle. They are not hard to find on the net, or many times can be purchased from a hobby store.

    My radio on my Subaru (clarion C-124) has this exact CD changer in it. I will be using this video to take it down. Just wanted to comment so others having issues could find it.

    Great video. One suggestion. At the beginning of the video it would be a good idea to list the tools needed. I got all the way through to the point where you need to clean the switches but I didn't have the cleaner.

    This video was great. Unfortunately the motor would not click into place. Tried for an hour to re mount it. Then the wires connected to the motor broke and now I’m in the market for a new CD player
